Posted: 31 Oct 2018 02:55 PM PDT My budget is $1400. Plus the dreaded sales tax! Basically, I will be running Google Docs & some photoshopping (just for family tree stuff). I've already figured out that I should get 256gb hd. I've waited and waited for the MBA but it is a tad more pricey than what I was expecting & I was secretly hoping for a touch screen too! Anyway, what's the scoop? Is the MBA worth it? Also, anyone thinking there may be a Black Friday offer? Thanks. [link] [comments]
Posted: 31 Oct 2018 07:45 PM PDT Hey Guys! I do a lot of video and photo editing for school and that kills the battery on my MacBook. Since I kinda just sit down and edit for most of the day, would it be bad, good or do nothing if I just left my MacBook plugged in every time I use it? Thanks! [link] [comments]

Posted: 31 Oct 2018 03:41 PM PDT I have to pay over $700 to repair the screen. It happened because I closed my laptop when there was a USB cord inside. Any tips to make sure it doesnt happen again? The screen protector I put on did not help. [link] [comments]
Posted: 31 Oct 2018 02:54 PM PDT Hi guys I have a question about the repair program for the coating issues. Does someone know if the macbook pro 2017 (15inch TB) is also under the warranty program for the coating? I couldn't find anything on the apple website only on Macrumors but I don't know if that's 100% certain. Thanks for the effort! [link] [comments]
Should I buy a 2018 MacBook Pro 15” today or wait for refresh? Posted: 31 Oct 2018 02:18 PM PDT Guys and Gals, I'm struggling, I am so close pulling the trigger on the $3899 MacBook model. Intel I9 2.9ghz 32gb RAM 1tb SSD Radeon 560x I'm defiantly going to purchase a eGPU and plug a Vega 64 into the MacBook, however I do see there is a new GPU going to be released for the new refresh in November. I don't know why Apple can just give us a specific date. I'm dying to get a MacBook right now but I want input if it really is worth the wait or not. The new refresh will be coming with a Vega Pro 20 hmb2 vs the 560x, and Apple states its 60% faster (I've heard that before) I really just want to know if i will see a big benefit here. I would like the portability and future proof with a good GPU but realistically my MacBook will be on my desk 80-90 percent of the time. Also since the $3899 model is breaking my bank i might need to downgrade some parts since i don't know how much the new refresh model will cost. Please help me out. [link] [comments]

MacBook Pro 2017 Left Shift Key Problem Posted: 31 Oct 2018 02:21 AM PDT

Posted: 31 Oct 2018 04:29 AM PDT Hey everyone, we're currently in a bit of a pickle. My Girlfriend recently began university and just two days ago her 2011 Macbook Pro 15 inch screen completely died, from the AMD Radeon Video Glitch, and now obviously it is too late to get the repairs apple offered until 2016. She spoke to someone in her university help desk who knew a lot about macs and he said she has to buy another mac which is post 2011, and only then she can transfer her data as it in encryped. This confuses me, as I would have thought you would be able to transfer her mac harddrive to someone elses mac (e.g. my fathers / the person helping her) and then could just upload that data to a USB stick and plug it into a cheaper laptop and continue working. Her files were mainly word documents, which I thought were universal due to being able to email them from macbooks to window's PCs. Am I wrong in thinking this? Thank you for any help offered, this is obviously very upsetting to her and any advice would be greatly appreciated. [link] [comments]
Trouble exporting/saving on iMovie. Posted: 31 Oct 2018 01:09 PM PDT I have a Macbook running on Mojave. I made a video presentation for a school project and iMovie is saying it is exporting it but everytime it saves. It doesn't export it to my Downloads or to Youtube. I force quitted the application, updated the app, and turned off my computer. It is still not working. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance. [link] [comments]

Cannot get a Macbook 2016 to connect to extra monitors Posted: 31 Oct 2018 09:18 AM PDT My boss went out and bought two extra monitors in hope to use with his Macbook, unfortunately its not working. One adapter we are using is the Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) to Thunderbolt 2 Adapter, little did i know this is the worst one to use when connecting another monitor. Any suggestions on what adapter to use? We are only working with a USB-C Digital AV Multiport Adapter now for one monitor for the meantime. [link] [comments]
MS-Word Won't Open Issue - How I fixed it on 2011 Macbook Posted: 31 Oct 2018 08:46 AM PDT Word for Mac 2011, on a Macbook Pro 13" from 2011, running MacOS High Sierra. For unknown reason, MS-Word would not open, no matter which way the attempt was made. Problem went on for 2 months, unabated. Just a bounce in the dock then a quit. I see lots of people asking this question in internet forums with lots of views, with various suggestions. One that did not work for me is to turn off wifi and then try to open Word. Also, running First Aid in the Disk Utility did nothing. I found these instructions to repair disk permissions: Run the "Repair disk permissions" Click on the Go menu and click on Utilities. Start the Disk Utility program. Select the primary hard disk drive from the list of drives for your computer. Click on the tab "First Aid". Finally click on "Repair Disk Permissions". Well, in High Sierra I was not offered the choice to "Repair Disk Permissions." Apparently, that is an option in earlier OS versions (maybe ending between Yosemite and El Capitan?). However, I found instructions to repair permissions through Terminal, and LO and BEHOLD MS-WORD NOW WORKS!!! For me. Here is the link - the instructions I followed were under the caption "Reset Permissions" halfway down the page: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT203538 Here is a paste of those instructions (there are some graphics you will see in the link, which did not paste below, so go there for a better view of the instructions): Reset permissions If the issue started after changing the permissions of items in your home folder, reset permissions: From the Finder menu bar, choose Go > Home. Your home folder opens. Choose File > Get Info. An Info window for your home folder opens. If the Sharing & Permissions section at the bottom of the window isn't open, click the triangle in that section to open it. If the Lock button at the bottom of the window shows a closed lock lock , click the lock and enter an administrator name and password. Click the Action menu in the bottom corner of the window, then choose "Apply to enclosed items." Click OK to confirm the action. A progress bar appears at the top of the window. When the progress bar completes, open the Terminal app, which is in the Utilities folder of your Applications folder. Paste or type this command in Terminal, then press Return: diskutil resetUserPermissions / `id -u` On U.S. keyboards, the ` character is just above the Tab key. After entering the diskutil command, if Terminal says that permissions reset on user home directory failed (error -69841), enter chflags -R nouchg ~, then enter the diskutil command again. When the process completes, quit Terminal. Restart the computer, then test to see if the issue is fixed. Published Date: October 18, 2018 [link] [comments]

Posted: 31 Oct 2018 06:30 AM PDT Hey all. I bought my Macbook Pro 2017 2.3 GHz Intel Core i5 around July of this year and at first I loved the battery. Now, the battery drains significantly while I use Safari. I have location/bluetooth turned off on my phone but I just cannot trust it when I have to go out to class. When I close the lid the battery drains significantly (20+ percent over night) and even when I use it... For example: I opened my laptop today at 9:20 AM at 66% from 85 last night, checked my email, browsed reddit for a few minutes and it drained 6% and it is currently 9:28 AM. Battery health: Charge Information: Charge Remaining (mAh): 2652 Fully Charged: No Charging: No Full Charge Capacity (mAh): 4649 Health Information: Cycle Count: 46 Condition: Normal Battery Installed: Yes Amperage (mA): -379 Voltage (mV): 11535 It also says Time since boot: 2 days 21:57 Even though I charged my laptop recently. Is something running in the background? Right now I just have notes, safari, messages, and mail "active" and "open" on my dock. Thank you Here is the activity monitor https://imgur.com/a/BhQTZM7 [link] [comments]
Will the 12-inch MacBook get a spec bump? Posted: 31 Oct 2018 01:43 AM PDT I wish the 12-inch MacBook got the updated processor, newer keyboard and touch-ID power button. Think they will release it later this year with a press release? [link] [comments] |
