Posted: 17 Nov 2018 01:07 PM PST I was at this Apple store in Fashion Square - Scottsdale with my friend checking out the new iPad Pro and the other products. While we were checking out the new iPad and the new pen, we faced a little problem making the pen work because it was not connected to the iPad, on the other side of the table was Adam, who is a customer service guy, he noticed that we had a problem so he came over and helped us out, he showed us how the pen works, how can I use it and how nice it is. He also showed us around the new iPad in great detail, he showed us the new typing cover and examined all angles of it. That all sounds normal until you realize that he did all of that while being blind. I was so amazed and stunned by his work and by how accurate he was, he was pointing at everything and describing it like everything was normal and there is no problem at all. I have never seen this kind of customer service ever in my life and not in any retail store. I was really amazed, so I wanted to give him this shoutout. edit 1: I am going to send a letter/email to both Apple and the store [link] [comments] |
iPad Pro Bends. So Does Every Tablet... (SnazzyLabs) Posted: 17 Nov 2018 07:27 PM PST |
Is it just me or has Google nerfed the YouTube app into the ground? Posted: 17 Nov 2018 06:37 AM PST Has anyone else had this issue? YouTube just being overall much worse/laggier than it was a few months ago? Scrolling through comments sections is a stuttery mess for me, as well as screen rotation along with some other bugs. I have an iPad with an older version of YouTube on it and it's buttery smooth. But my X is just laggy on YouTube. Edit: Everyone please go on the YouTube app and hit the submit feedback button and let YouTube know Edit2: From reading the comments, it seems that a large chunk of us are having issues, while others aren't. So I recorded a quick clip to demonstrate the issues I'm experiencing. Certain parts of the app are super smooth, while others are.... well... see for yourself. Edit3: Upon further testing on an old iPhone 7 Plus running iOS 11.2.1 with the latest version of the YouTube app, it's come to my attention that this might be an issue of optimization for iOS 12. Because my 7 Plus runs YouTube 1000 times smoother than my iPhone X does on iOS 12. [link] [comments] |

Did anyone else use RocketDock on their Windows computer before you switched to Macs? Posted: 17 Nov 2018 08:01 AM PST I remember always being afraid to switch to MacOS before leaving the Windows world even though I was intrigued by Apple. Instead I tried to make my windows computer more like a Mac by using Safari for Windows and RocketDock. [link] [comments] |

Posted: 17 Nov 2018 10:22 PM PST I've had mine for about 3 months and they work great with one exception. I was on a conference call tonight for 1 hour and 30 minutes and I started getting the low battery signal. They have been in my charger the entire time and the charger is currently at 87%. I read about people getting 4-5 hours of time on them and wonder if something is wrong. I am on them for a phone call the whole time, not just listening to music. So I wonder if that's different. How to tell if I’m streaming 4K or not with Apple TV. Posted: 17 Nov 2018 07:57 PM PST I have just set up my new Apple TV and TCL 4K TV. I own the 4K Avengers: Infinity War and also have the digital download in my iTunes library. I also have many Blu-Ray movies with digit downloads in my iTunes library. I have heard that all content in your iTunes library is supposed to automatically change to 4K when the Apple TV is configured for 4K (which it is). When I stream IW or other movies from Apple TV, I do not get the 'HDR' sign in the top right corner like I do when I actually play the 4K movie on my player. Also, when I swipe down during playback it still says 'HD' How can I confirm it's actually outputting 4K rather than just upscaling? If it isn't doing it, how can I make it so? Assuming what I heard was correct about the library automatically being upgraded to 4K content... if this is not the case, please let me know. Thanks! P.S. sorry if this question has been asked before, I wasn't able to find a good answer when searching. [link] [comments] |

reviving my 2010 macbook air with linux Posted: 17 Nov 2018 08:47 AM PST https://i.imgur.com/h2YExVh.jpg pulled out the old 11" macbook air last night as i was having trouble with an update on my regular laptop. since this 2010 model didn't get macos 10.14, i figured i'd see how a linux distribution would fare the maxxxed out specs:
xubuntu 18.04 lts seemed to be the best flavor for a few reasons:
everything works! brightness/volume keys, touchpad, microphone, camera, sleep mode. media keys control spotify. only big limitation is the hardware showing its age. can't quite pull off youtube 720p @ 60fps, so i run a script in firefox that limits HD video to 30fps. battery capacity is down to 75%, still enough to take it off ac for a few hours so i got a general light-use laptop out of it! if you have an old model in the closet, pull it out and give it a try! How would you redesign Xcode’s UI for the iPad? Posted: 17 Nov 2018 08:18 AM PST Assuming that one day Xcode does finally make it to iOS in some capacity, what would you want it to look like and how would you want it to function? I feel like one of the reasons it doesn't exist yet is trying to design a UI that is equivalent or even supersedes the desktop interface is a huge challenge, especially given the fact that if they can pull it off, it might give other developers motivation to try and redesign their pro apps for the iPad while maintaining full functionality. This will really help solidify apple's positioning of the iPad as laptop replacement. That should tide us over until the next device they release where they advertise it by having a child ask what an iPad is. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 18 Nov 2018 12:38 AM PST Contemplating which to buy and really like the pro but not sure if if it's worth the extra 600$. Not too smart with processors and stuff like that so don't really know the difference. [link] [comments] |
TIL Siri can now translate English into Japanese, Russian, and Brazilian Portuguese Posted: 17 Nov 2018 09:39 AM PST I remember it was announced at WWDC 2017 that Siri could translate into 5 languages to start, but I don't recall seeing these 3 other new languages in any Apple announcement. I'm still not sure why Apple is pursuing this through Siri rather than leaving it to third parties like Google Translate, but maybe others here will find it useful or interesting. [link] [comments] |

AirPower would definitely solve this Posted: 18 Nov 2018 12:58 AM PST The mess that is Charging multiple devices I also forgot to include my Apple Pencil because my plug doesn't even allow for 5 separate cables. Would Apple's multiple device wireless charger be proprietary or could other companies do the same, and if so, why haven't they? [link] [comments] |
The most obvious product to have wireless charging is the product that has yet to gain it: the iPad. Posted: 17 Nov 2018 12:29 PM PST Think about it. How often is the iPad just laying flat on a surface. ... uh... 90% of the time? Yet... why is wireless charging not available here? There's nothing more annoying (well, ok I'm sure there is), than picking up an iPad and wanting to jot down an idea, and realize that it has run out of battery. [link] [comments] |
Anyone used an eGPU with the new macbook air? Posted: 17 Nov 2018 12:38 PM PST I'm curious if anyone has done this yet. I want to get one but also would like to dock my laptop for windows use to play light games like LoL, WoW etc. I wonder if the cpu would bottleneck a moderate card though. [link] [comments] |
Just got a new iPad Pro 12.9” 256GB and the memory is being used up by system? Posted: 17 Nov 2018 08:01 PM PST I have no idea how 122GB is being used up by system. I restored the iPad from a back up of my old iPad. Is there anyway I can clear this memory? [link] [comments] |
Anyone know any upcoming deals on Macbooks? Posted: 17 Nov 2018 05:42 PM PST Trying to upgrade from my terrible old MacBook pro this Black Friday and I'm wondering if anyone knows of any upcoming deals on the new MacBook air or pro models. [link] [comments] |
iPad Pro 12.9" (2017) vs iPad Pro 11" (2018) Posted: 17 Nov 2018 08:26 PM PST I currently have an iPad Air 2 and I am upgrading for school. I am currently looking at the the iPad Pro 12.9" (2017) 256GB and the other one being the brand new iPad Pro 11" (2018) 64GB. I am including the 256GB model as it is currently on sale and cheaper than the base model and both the 2017 and 2018 are the same prices. I will be primarily using the iPad for note taking during school, gaming and watching videos. I'm really leaning towards the 2018 iPad, because it has better specs, the all screen design, and it has USB-C which is very useful for me. I'm also torn because the 2017 iPad Pro 12.9" has 256GB (which I probably won't use all), it still has good specs and has a larger screen. I don't know which one to get! I'm leaning towards the 2018 model as it will future proof the device as I'm planning to use it 4+ years in University and because its newer. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 17 Nov 2018 10:31 AM PST I know others have had issues with the Apple Watch Raise to speak but it works really well for me once I learned how to enable it. Now it's second nature. Just raise the watch all in one motion and as soon as it's near your mouth (almost touching) speak. Don't wait or anything. Also make sure the watch is as vertical as possible. I really love it in the car because I have an older car with just Bluetooth and I'm always streaming music from the phone. Siri/Voice to Text is really bad because there's always a slight delay when I have to wait for the "beep" that Siri is listening. Then either because of the microphone or wind noise the translation isn't always correct (works perfectly for me with say AirPods or the microphone). I try to use the watch but saying "Hey Siri" would also trigger the phone. Now I just raise the watch and speak naturally without even needing to enable Siri or the phone. Raise to Speak is also great for quick checking of the forecast, timers, messages, adding Reminders, etc. Just Raise, speak and get confirmation from Siri. [link] [comments] |
