iMessage is merging text threads from two different people. Posted: 02 Oct 2018 06:27 PM PDT Earlier today I tried texting my brother from my phone, so I searched for his name in my text threads. I sent a message and my dad responded from his phone number. The text had erroneously sent to my dad instead of my brother. When I went to search for my brother's name again, it kept pulling up my dad's text thread. Looking at it now, the thread looks like a combination of the two text threads: some texts from my brother, some from my dad. I'm so confused as to why this is happening and frustrated because I can't be sure who it is that I'm actually texting. I'm using an iPhone 7 and it's all updated. If anyone can help me fix this I'd be really thankful! (And yes, I've tried turning it off and on again ;) ) [link] [comments] |
Any way to track or block an IMEI on my stolen 7plus? Posted: 02 Oct 2018 08:31 PM PDT |
Posted: 02 Oct 2018 09:03 PM PDT This has been extremely frustrating. I was trying to get my AirPods to connect to my watch so I could go on a run yesterday and it involved some pairing and unpairing and now they won't stop connecting straight to the watch and whenever I try to manually switch to the AirPods on my phone it doesn't work...it does the loading symbol for a bit and then they just disappear. I set up my watch as new after resetting all the settings on my phone and the problem still persists. I'm running iOS 12 on the X and watchOS 5 on the series 4 (no WiFi where I'm at so I haven't been able to update to 5.0.1). [link] [comments] |
Posted: 02 Oct 2018 09:31 AM PDT I can't airdrop from iMac to iPhone, iMac to iPad, MacBook to iPhone, or MacBook to iPad. But I can airdrop from ios to macos. This is fixed with a restart temporarily but when the mac sleeps and then wakes it stops working. coincidentally, this happens only when the thumbnials of photos in the finder stop showing. then only temporary fix for that is also a restart. until the device sleeps. Very frustrated. [link] [comments] |

[Help] MacBook Pro 13” High Sierra Photos People scan stuck? Posted: 02 Oct 2018 08:49 PM PDT I don't have a picture, so hopefully this doesn't violate the rules. As title says, I have a MacBook Pro 13" running High Sierra. I just upgraded my ram and ssd, and everything was running super smooth. I backed up about 6,500 pictures from my iPhone to Photos. Over the course of the day, VTEncoderXPCService, com.apple.photos.videoconversionservice, and photoanalysisd have been sucking up over 170% of the cpu, and kicking the fans on high gear. I think the people face scan is stuck? It's been at "13,829 photos scanned....remaining 4,365" for the better part of the day. I have iCloud turned off, and I don't use it on my iPhone either. What's causing these to take up so much energy, and is the Photos app messed up? Thank you for any help! Edit: corrected add to ssd. [link] [comments] |
How to update to High Sierra, not Mojave, on 2011 MBP. Posted: 02 Oct 2018 08:49 PM PDT The app store will only show me Mojave but my computer is too old for that. I was running High Sierra happily till something shit the bed and I got stuck in a boot loop and had to boot from an ancient back up (I know, I know). So how do I update to High Sierra from Mountain Lion? I've tried googling but to no avail. [link] [comments] |
using multiple Macs with same dock Posted: 02 Oct 2018 07:41 PM PDT i have a Thunderbolt 2 dock for my personal MacBook. an external HD is connected to the dock (USB), along with a camera (USB) and external monitor (HDMI). i would like to use my work Mac with the dock, to take advantage of the camera and monitor, but prevent my work Mac from mounting or 'seeing' the external HD, without physically disconnecting the HD (it's difficult to reach). is this possible? am running High Sierra on both machines. thanks all! Can’t change my iPhone 5s anymore Posted: 02 Oct 2018 10:57 PM PDT Doesn't charge when I switch the adapter or cable, any suggestions for fixing this problem or should I invest in a new battery? [link] [comments] |
Bluetooth Signal Strength Massively Reduced Posted: 02 Oct 2018 10:37 PM PDT Hello everyone, so I'm on an iPhone X on IOS 12 and I noticed a while back that the bluetooth signal seemed to be much weaker. My airpods would disconnect if I shifted my head the wrong way or put any solid object between them and the phone. I tried it with some other Bluetooth devices with similar results. Dropped signal about a foot out and with any solid object in between. Now the interesting part is that my Apple Watch and HomePod both work just fine with it. I don't notice dropped notifications on my watch and I can play music on my HomePod all throughout my apartment. I was originally on the IOS 12 beta and so I waited since I wanted to see if the full release would fix my issue, and now that we're at IOS 12 I have seen no change. So I was wondering if anyone on here had any insight as to what might be going on or if it's a hardware problem. [link] [comments] |
Necessary to replace iPhone battery? Posted: 02 Oct 2018 09:55 PM PDT So my 6 month old iPhone SE (iOS 12) just quit unexpectedly twice while using it at below 20% charge. The "battery health" menu says that the device is throttled now to prevent further shutdowns. Can I disable the throttle and not have the shutdowns happen again, or do I have to get Apple to replace the battery? I still have warranty so I can get Apple to replace the battery for free. But I'd rather avoid that if possible as I'd hate to be without it. Are there any other fixes? [link] [comments] |
Using Two USB-C monitors with 2016 13-inch MBP w/ 4 Thunderbolt 3 ports Posted: 02 Oct 2018 06:03 PM PDT I have two USB-C monitors (specifically Dell P2219HC), and I am trying to connect to them both as separate external displays. I am using the included USB-C to USB-C cable for each monitor. If I plug either one in, in any of the 4 Thunderbolt ports, it connects to it just fine. If I plug the second one in, in any of the 3 remaining ports, it does not detect the monitor, and the monitor displays a message indicating that there is no USB-C signal from my device. I am not sure why this is happening. I am running macOS High Sierra 10.13.6, my graphics card is the "Intel Iris Graphics 550 1536 MB". [link] [comments] |
Posted: 02 Oct 2018 09:40 PM PDT I'm sorry if this isn't the right place for this, but last night someone furry spilled a glass of wine all over my 2013 MacBook Pro. I immediately mopped up the wine, cleaned it as best as I could, then unplugged it and turned it off, then tent-style flipped it upside to dry out per the advice of Internet. I freaked out in the middle of the night and couldn't sleep so I tried turning it on to see if it would still run. It still turns on and will log on but the keyboard is all janky now. It automatically is just entering random letters and stuff. The weird thing is that the power button still works so maybe the keyboard still works? Idk. Anyway, my husband said to turn it off and flip it back over and just wait until it's for sure done drying out (a couple more days). Is there anything I should do in the meantime? Does it sound like the whole thing is shot? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 02 Oct 2018 09:15 PM PDT So I finally updated my 6s Plus to iOS 12 and when it was done I realized that every one of my text messages had been deleted. Is there anyway to get them back? [link] [comments] |
Upgrading to an SSD on a mid 2012 macbook pro Posted: 02 Oct 2018 02:19 PM PDT Hi Everyone, I wanted to upgrade my HDD to an SSD on my mid 2012 MBP without cloning my current HDD and basically starting from scratch. Is there a tutorial on how to upgrade with the latest OS installed on the SSD? Thank You! [link] [comments] |
[iPhone] Password Autofill Randomly Stopped Working Posted: 02 Oct 2018 06:23 PM PDT I recently setup a new iPhone and loved the feature where I can use the autofill keychain feature to log into apps like snapchat, instagram, spotify, facebook, etc. Whenever I opened snapchat, I would get options above the keyboard, allowing me to log in with different accounts. I was curious about LastPass so I installed it but I didn't feel much was different so I ended up uninstalling it. Since the, the apple keyboard no longer shows me options for which account to log in with in apps, and instead, I need to type in username and password manually. For example, when I open snapchat, at the top of the apple keyboard, it just says "Passwords" and when I press on that it opens Settings > Passwords & Accounts. I've noticed that for some Safari webpages, it still works correctly and I can log in using the keychain. I have also confirmed that the Settings > Passwords & Accounts keychain is activated. I am seeking a refund for my AW that was purchased in a different country than where I am now. Posted: 02 Oct 2018 06:14 PM PDT I need some help you wonderful community. So, I pre ordered the series 4 AW during pre order day in Australia, then picked it up at an Apple store in Melbourne on launch day. I then flew home to Canada where I live. I am now trying to return the watch as it was a bad financial decision for where I am in this season. I have reached out to Apple via their online support, phone support, local Apple store and have sent many emails. Communicated with around 15–20 people in the last 4 days all of which were saying sure you can have a refund but we don't know how to do that since you bought it in one country and want to return it in another. Then today I received a call from Apple in Ireland and the guy on the phone straight up said you can only return a product in the same country as you bought it. End of story! So I'm stuck, I have a few options, keep it. Sell it on Kijiji (used buy sell site) for a lose. Or ship it back to family in Australia at my expense, get them to return it for me. I still want the refund, but if I send it I'll be past my 14 refund period of which the guy on today's call said they will wave it. How ever I have nothing in writing, I would hate to pay for shipping and then have some other employee say rules are rules, no refund. Any suggestions on what can be done? Also does anyone know about warranty and Apple care, which I bought too. Does Apple honour claims in countries other than where it was purchased? Thx in advance [link] [comments] |

2013 MacBook Pro Docking Station Problems? Posted: 02 Oct 2018 11:36 AM PDT I have an employee that wants to use a 2013 MacBook Pro in the office. Everyone else runs on windows but so far the only actual compatibility problem is getting her to be able to use dual monitors. We have tried two docking stations a Dell DisplayLink (3100) and a Diamond Multimedia Ultra 4K/5K Docking Station, Compatible With Both. The Dell docking station connected via USB and we could get the monitors to work BUT the computer never seemed to recognize the dual monitors. We could get it to have an extended display but after a few moments (less than 30 seconds) of use, the screen would flash black and it would go back to extended screen. It also would not detect the monitors. With the Diamond docking station we couldn't connect with the original cord that came with it because it was USB-C to USB-C which this version of a MacBook Pro doesn't have. We purchased a USB-C to HDMI and the computer doesn't pick it up at all. Any suggestions? [link] [comments] |
What’s the best app to give my iPhone the portrait effect Posted: 02 Oct 2018 07:42 AM PDT I have an iPhone 8 and don't have the dual lens. I'm wondering what other users have tried as far as apps go that will help me create a similar effect in my photos. I've search the App Store and there seems to be several apps that advertise for this effect, but I want advice from someone who has actually used an app that they are happy with. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 02 Oct 2018 05:19 PM PDT Laptop wouldn't charge for Tokyo Apple store in any USB-C port using multiple power adapters. Bring the laptop back to the US and it charges just fine with existing charger. Any thoughts? [link] [comments] |
magsafe blinking green and screen dims from "toggling" between running on batt then ac Posted: 02 Oct 2018 05:09 PM PDT i have reset smc and pram, tried 3 adapters, with and without battery. sometimes laptop won't boot(MacBook pro 1286 mid 2012). installed new charge port board. tried unplugging battery and magsafe and holding power for 30+ seconds. trying everything before settling on the mobo being bad or smc chip being bad. any thoughts? Smart keyboard not being recognized after updating to iOS 12 Posted: 02 Oct 2018 05:02 PM PDT I updated my iPad Pro 12.9 (1st gen) to iOS 12 this morning. Since then, it hasn't recognized my smart keyboard. It's connected but there's nothing to indicate that it's being detected except for two different times, I got a pop up that said something along the lines of "accessory is not supported by this device". I have repeatedly tried disconnecting and reconnecting the keyboard. I've shut down and restarted as well as trying the force shut down. Is any else having this problem? Does anyone know something else I could try to get it to recognize my keyboard again? [link] [comments] |
Howcome I can't download Mac OS Mojave? "Recovery Server Could Not Be Contacted" Posted: 02 Oct 2018 04:44 PM PDT Okay here goes nothing. I've got a Mid 2014 Macbook Pro current OS on it is 10.12.6. Howcome I can't download 10.14? I keep getting an error message saying "Recovery Server Could Not Be Contacted" and yes Ive done the check the timer thing in the terminal and the date and time are correct. Do I need to update and install all the prior releases? I tried looking for 10.13.0 and it doesn't exist so I had to download 10.13 supplemental and it told me I needed to download 10.13..which I can't find a link anywhere. Any help would be much appreciated. I honestly have issues every single time there is an update.. why won't it just install it.. [link] [comments] |
Over 2 weeks waiting on my Ipad 10.5 pro, should I just chargeback? Posted: 02 Oct 2018 07:46 AM PDT I wanted to buy my first ever Ipad and ordered it on September 16. The package got rescheduled 3 times and I decided I might as well ask for a refund and go buy it myself. I started the refund process and figured it go by faster since the package never left China. Few days go by and nothing's changed, its still in China. I contacted support and they said no problem, since there was clearly delivery Issues they will cancel and re-rout the package, so I no longer have to worry. Fast forward to today, I contacted support and they told me that I have to return the package first. I told them I never even got it, its still in China and that it was supposed to be re-routed. They then tell me it was a request so it's not guaranteed that it was returned to the warehouse. My god I wanted to snap right about now, just about ruined my first ever ipad experience to where I don't even want to buy one now. Anyway I told her that's fine I just want an update so I know whats going on. She then says the package seems to be lost and can't offer me a refund until they figure it out and she will send their warehouse another request. I've never done a charge back so I'm not sure if there is any downside to it but I'm pretty sure I should at this point? Wondering if anyone's done this without apple being anal about it and contesting my charge back or something. [link] [comments] |
