2 factor not working the way I expect it to Posted: 09 Oct 2018 03:28 PM PDT I have 2 factor authentication setup on my iCloud account. When I provide my appleid and password on my Macbook, a warning pops on the Macbook saying someone is trying to log into iCloud. If I say it's OK, (it is me after all), then a 6 digit key pops up which I can enter into iCloud's dialog box. Shouldn't the warning and 6 digit token appear only on my watch/iPhone and not appear on my computer? The way it's currently working seems pointless if the thief has my computer. [link] [comments] |

iMessage says delivered on phone but not computer Posted: 09 Oct 2018 05:31 PM PDT I saw this question asked a few times on other websites but there wasn't a clear answer so I thought I'd try my luck. I sent a message from my computer to another person who has an iPhone and the message status never showed as "delivered". I thought this was weird and checked my phone which has the little "delivered" note under the message. Was my message delivered or is it possible that something got messed up? [link] [comments] |
iCloud Photos can't actually be this absurdist, can it? Posted: 09 Oct 2018 08:56 PM PDT I bought the 200GB storage plan and uploaded 7000 photos to save space on my phone. Then I bought a used 256GB X so I didn't think the storage plan was necessary. So I stopped iCloud Photos and it says "download all your original quality photos within 30 days on iCloud.com". So I go to iCloud.com and there's no select all function. Is iCloud actually expecting me to manually click 7000 photos just to download WHAT IS RIGHTFULLY MINE? Please tell me I'm missing something here [link] [comments] |
MacBook Pro stuck on Apple loading screen (mid 2012) Posted: 09 Oct 2018 08:54 PM PDT My mid 2012 13" MacBook Pro is not loading past the apple screen. I've tried multiple things that I found online. Hard Disconnected battery from device twice which has fixed the same issue before twice. (This was also the fix the Apple store gave me when I took it in to the store) Tried Disk utility first aid no errors Apple hardware diagnostics no errors Tried some code to reset mbr_cache but it must have been wrong because it says directory cannot be found even though I entered it exactly as specified. Safe mode will not load I want to try to reinstall macOS but it's saying recovery server could not be connected even though I know it's connected to the internet. I'm lost... Please help And thank you for all and any replies [link] [comments] |
iPhone 7 will not restore, not even from iTunes. Posted: 09 Oct 2018 08:22 PM PDT Here's a long one for you guys. I have an iPhone 7 32GB that has been a great phone. Recently, it started getting the "No Service" "Searching" or "!No Service" and the phone is unable to receive or make calls. Initially, I thought it was a service issue with my carrier. So I take it in, and we perform a number of tests on the phone in store, such as checking the sim (it works on other phones) and the store rep decided that he knew the solution. An iOS restore. He had the phone ready to go, had me turn off icloud, and enter in my passcode. Once the back up was finished, it popped up with a warning about not being able to restore if erased due to the service issue. I asked him if he was sure, because at least until I can get it to Apple, it still could pick up wifi and perform various functions. He told me there was nothing to worry about, he's done this multiple times and hit the button that got me to the point I'm at now. It erased the iphone and guess what? It won't restore. He handed it back to me and shrugged, I am livid even though this was already hours ago. It gets as far as starting the process and then says unable to complete restore. I've even tried connecting it to itunes and put the phone to connect to itunes screen, no dice. What are my options, and more importantly what is even going on? What caused this mess to begin with and how do I fix it? [link] [comments] |
2009 17” macbook wont start up Posted: 09 Oct 2018 11:21 AM PDT I restarted my macbook pro for the first time in a while and now it starts up but the progress bar gets 3/4s full then a loading ring appears over the bar and the backlight starts to flash slightly. I've tried booting in safe mode and reseting SMC and other bits but that hasn't worked. I can boot in recovery mode and when I run first aid it that hard drive comes back as ok. Im running El Capitan and when I try to reinstall the OS it says it's temporarily unavailable. It has around 25gb free of a 500gb hard drive which I know is not ideal but surely its enough for it to start up? Im trying to get my files off but locating another mac that has a firewire port is proving tricky and target disk mode wont work with anything else. Im not too fussed about keeping the macbook as its time I upgraded but I could really do with getting some of my files off. Anyone have any idea on what to try? I've been looking online the past few days and nothing has worked. Thanks in advance! [link] [comments] |
iPhone storage keeps telling me I've ran out of storage but the individual app sizes dont add up? Posted: 09 Oct 2018 08:01 PM PDT I have an iPhone 5 on IOS 10.3.3. After having deleted many apps in order to free up more space storage keeps filling itself back up without me doing anything. When I connect it to Itunes it shows 4.2GB is other, with 4GB free, but it doesnt show on my phone. I've live chatted with Apple and they said that it'd be best to restore my iphone. My issue though with restoring is will it update my current apps to their newest versions, or will I be able to still have former versions of apps. Will my contacts and messages be saved or will that all have to be redone. [link] [comments] |
Hit "Undo" ... cannot "Redo" file transfer Posted: 09 Oct 2018 07:35 PM PDT So... I did the "clean desktop" thing to make the icons nice and organized on a grid, but it made it a little crazy since there were too many. So, I did what any reasonable human being would do: I command-Z'd that crap back to its place. Except it didn't Undo the desktop. It undid the 39GB file transfer I just completed. The data came from an external drive that I no longer have access to as it was wiped after removing personal files from it. I use iCloud Drive for everything on my Desktop and Documents folders, but I see nothing. Is there anything else I can do? Really need those files for work. Thanks [link] [comments] |
So I switched Apple IDs a while back and ever since I’ve been locked out of my music. Posted: 09 Oct 2018 07:15 PM PDT Whenever I try to play music or download it, it comes up with a message saying "You can download past purchases on this device every 90 days. This device can be used with another Apple ID in 33 days." (I've waited two months). PLEASE tell me there's a way around this. I've missed my music. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 09 Oct 2018 05:01 AM PDT While I was working this morning at work, I spilled milk on the keyboard. I don't have hair dryer or etc. at work, so I just used tissue to remove the milk. I don't have another computer, so no choice, have to continue working on it. I am having no issue as of now and also ran diagnosis test and said no issue. Anyhow, I would like to know what else I can be done as I have no idea what is happening inside. I plan on going to the apple store later. I also want to know how much does it cost to request hardware diagnosis at apple store. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 09 Oct 2018 05:43 PM PDT Here's a screenshot to see what I'm talking about. I've used dark mode continuously since the release with no issues and it just started happening out of the blue. Running the latest updates of macOS & iTunes. Someone who reported the same bug wrote deleting their album artwork cache solved it, but no such luck for me. Anyone else gotten this? Posted: 09 Oct 2018 05:42 PM PDT 1 2TB WD less than a year old 1 2TB Seagate less than a year old 1 512GB solid state drive 4 years old. Problems began after I got a new 2018 MacBook Pro and started using the USB dongles to connect these drives. Had been using a 2013 Macbook Pro without issue. Latest oddity was the MacBook crashing hard when doing a time machine backup. Then crashing hard when trying to delete what I thought were bad/corrupt backup images. Ultimately seemed like the hard drive was physically damaged (disk util couldn't repair it). My only guess is that these external drives weren't getting the proper power or something. Don't know what I'm going to do for backups. Tired of dropping $100 a week on a new drive. [link] [comments] |
Buying an iPhone on their website Posted: 09 Oct 2018 05:34 PM PDT Forgive the dumb question but what is the process of buying a phone via Apple.com? I've ever only bought them in the store. I'm assuming when they ship it to me I just bring it to the store to get it activated? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 09 Oct 2018 05:21 PM PDT my Ipad 2 (I think its the 2, it's the first ipad with a camera, has 30 pin charger) Running IOS 9.3.5(13G36) won't charge. but the wierd thing is I turned it off, but when I tried plugging it into the wall again it turned on. It turns on when I plug it in but won't charge [link] [comments] |
Display Issues on External Monitor with MacBook Pro Posted: 09 Oct 2018 05:15 PM PDT I'm having a weird issue on my Macbook, particularly in Safari. Any website popups, overlays, etc. show up blank if the window is on an external display, but show up normal if the window is dragged to my MBP display. i.e. if I am on a website with a modal email signup form, the form is just blank. Or a date picker on a website just shows up as a white box. When Safari is moved to my MBP display I can see everything just fine. I've also noticed some display issues with other Mac related apps (Messages, Calendar), but don't have any issues with Chrome et. al. Hardware: MacBook Pro, 13-inch, 2017 Dell Monitor j5 Create USB-C hub (that the monitor is connected through) Software: macOS Mojave 10.14 j5 Create driver just updated this afternoon I have to believe it's an issue with the display adapter, but haven't been able to find anyone else with the issue. Also weird that it only looks funny on Apple apps, and is really limited to certain content types on websites. [link] [comments] |
Preview app still can't use open in one window/open group of files in one window settings Posted: 09 Oct 2018 01:20 PM PDT Is just me or others have this problem as well? I'm running Mojave, this problem present since El Captain for me.. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 09 Oct 2018 05:00 PM PDT I'm subscribed to a podcast of all the old New Adventures of Sherlock Holmes radio plays, and I'm very behind on the back-issues since it's been running for several years now and I only subscribed last year, but I've been making good progress. I was in the middle of an episode when the audio suddenly stopped, and pulled up iTunes to see what had happened, to discover that every single episode had been deleted from my library, both those I'd already listened to but saved for later and those I hadn't listened to yet. In their place I found a wall of blue cloud icons next to every title, and anything from earlier than 2014—including all of the episodes I'd saved and the one I was in the middle of—were missing entirely. I did not tell iTunes to delete these files, nor would I have ever allowed it to do so had it asked me. "Limit episodes" and "delete played episodes" are both turned OFF. I have two questions.
I'm afraid to leave iTunes running lest this happen again to my other podcasts. [link] [comments] |
Quick settings on iphone xs max Posted: 09 Oct 2018 04:53 PM PDT I just changed from Android to Apple. On Android when you go into your control center, you can long press on the Bluetooth icon and it'll show a quick menu for Bluetooth connections. Is there any way to do this on iphone? Thank you so much! [link] [comments] |
Downloads are slow on a previously fast iMac. Posted: 09 Oct 2018 04:51 PM PDT It's an old iMac from 2011 that's still running Snow Leopard. Despite being old it was still fast just a year or two ago. I know it is not my internet connection because I had it tested at at 20 megabytes and I also have a newer Macbook that downloads faster than the old iMac while using the same provider. It isn't the websites I'm downloading from either because I use MEGA or torrents which are usually super fast. To give an example of how badly the old iMac download speeds are, they currently max out at 300 Kbps but just a year or two ago the old iMac averaged 3 Mbps which is a 10x difference. Posted: 09 Oct 2018 03:48 PM PDT Basically, part of my screen is slightly higher than the rest of the phone and all my text/keyboard is at a visible angle. Anyone got any experience with this or ideas on how to fix it? Edit: many apologies for the strange title. I clicked "post" before finishing. If a passing mod could edit the title to something a little bit more explanatory I'd really appreciate it. Here are some screenshots to illustrate the problem. https://imgur.com/a/RBGZXet/ Thank you for your time and attention. [link] [comments] |
Search results (CMD+F) in Preview no longer appear when sidebar is set to "Thumbnails" Posted: 09 Oct 2018 03:44 PM PDT Hello. I'm running Mojave stable on a 2015 MacBook Pro. Before upgrading to Mojave, I was able to search for words or phrases in the Preview app and see the results and page numbers of those results on the lefthand sidebar with the Thumbnail view. This no longer works. Search results DO show up if I set the sidebar to "Table of Contents" view, however, I do not like this view and would prefer the Thumbnails view to work instead. I have googled but can't seem to find much information about this issue. I've also submitted a bug report to Apple. One thing I unsuccessfully tried is to move the com.apple.preview.plist file to the trash and reopen Preview, but it didn't work for me. Does anyone know how to fix this bug? [link] [comments] |
Mid-2012 13" MBP (Non-Retina) RAM/Logic Board Issue Posted: 09 Oct 2018 11:17 AM PDT Hi r/AppleHelp! A few weeks ago I decided to swap out the dying HDD in my MBP for a 1TB Samsung EVO 860 SSD. Before I swapped it out, I wasn't really able to use the MBP because the RAM kept dislodging and forcing me to remove the bottom lid to re-seat it. Ever since I installed it, the issue had gotten better, up until this weekend. I've removed the lid and re-seated the RAM a couple of times now, to no avail. Just those three-annoying-as-hell-beeping-sounds. I'm wondering if anyone has any experience taking in an Apple computer to an Apple Store that has had non-Apple modifications done on it. At first, I was really excited about potentially having a brand-new computer, but not so much anymore. My only option left if the Apple Store won't repair my MBP is to try and see if OWC's RAM would somehow be a better fit than what I currently have installed (bought Hynix 8GB RAM upgrade a couple of years ago). I really feel like this is the exact issue the retina-MBP from the same time period is/was facing and the warranty program that they set up should also apply to non-retina MBPs. If anyone has experience fixing this kind of issue, please let me know!! [link] [comments] |
Mounting an external FileVault-encrypted drive Posted: 09 Oct 2018 02:51 PM PDT Hi, all. I've got a question about decrypting FileVault drives. My mid-2011 MacBook Air just bit the dust, but the drive is still fine. I'm considering buying an enclosure for the proprietary SSD so I can mount the drive and recover data. However, the drive was encrypted by FileVault. I remember my password, so I'd be able to decrypt the drive were I to boot the machine, but as I say, the machine is kaput. Will Disk Utility let me decrypt the drive if I know the password and was able to mount it over USB? [link] [comments] |
iTunes crashing when connected to Shared Library Playlist Posted: 09 Oct 2018 02:37 PM PDT Whenever I try to connect to a Shared Library playlist, my iTunes crashes. I tried everything I can think of and still can't get it to work. Even if I connect to the Shared Library, I can't play a song through it. It used to work previously, but not anymore. My suspicion has to do with the fact that my current laptop is running Mojave while my old one is still on Sierra. Anyone have any ideas? [link] [comments] |
