What kind of tests can I run on a MacBook Pro (early 2015) before I buy it off craigslist? Posted: 06 Sep 2018 05:07 PM PDT I'm buying an early 2015 MacBook pro off craigslist, which has been factory reset with macOS High Sierra. Are there any good ways I can test this thing out when I meet up with this guy, before I buy the laptop? [link] [comments]

App for automatically copying new files to an external drive (NOT Time Machine)? Posted: 07 Sep 2018 01:19 AM PDT Hey, I just bought two WD MyPassport drives for my travels. - Black 4TB for a Time Machine backup of my MacBook's 2TB hard drive. - White 4TB for storing all my video footage on. My MacBook hard drive is also on Backblaze, so I effectively have two physical copies with me and a third in the cloud (plus all my files are in Dropbox or Google Drive). For video footage, I've got two desktop drives kept at home that I'll load all my footage onto whenever I'm back. So worst case scenario is I lose footage from one trip (although, I could temporarily store it on my MacBook's drive, which saves me from drive failure, although not total robbery). Anyway. What app can I use to synchronise my desktop backup drives with my white portable video drive? Obviously not Time Machine, as that's backing-up my boot drive to my black passport. Slight complication is that I currently have two 2tb desktop drives at home, although that may become one big RAID drive later, to make things smoother/safer. I could just drag-and-drop, but I might make mistakes and miss files... it'd be better to automate it. Cheers [link] [comments]
Posted: 06 Sep 2018 08:36 PM PDT I have been having issues with Photos syncing my pictures into iCloud since few years, noticed it when I was taking a offline backup of it. It seems Photos app is not syncing any of the dslr pics I took which amounted to close to 3500. It is currently synced with the rest of the pictures / screenshots I took. Most of them are from iPhones I owned over the years. I got a ticket raised for it and nothing came out of it. Currently am not sure what to be done regarding it. [link] [comments]
Is there a way to make Dock appear on 2 displays? Posted: 06 Sep 2018 09:58 PM PDT I often use my Mac with extra monitor. Originally the Dock is stick to the bottom so it appears on both monitor and laptop with no issues. But I like it to be stick to the right :) when I plug external monitor the Dock jumps to it and doesn't appear on laptop. Is there a way to make it appear on both devices? Or at least to be stick to laptop all the time? [link] [comments]
Time machine backup not happening while MBP lid is closed Posted: 06 Sep 2018 11:21 AM PDT I have power nap on and always do my backup with this method. By the way, I'm running the latest beta of Mojave [link] [comments]
macOS High sierra random reboots Posted: 06 Sep 2018 03:40 PM PDT I'm running High Sierra on my 2012 13" MacBook and it keeps randomly rebooting during sleep and sometimes when I boot up the system it'll reboot at the login screen. Here's what the system kernel panic says if anyone can help me figure out what the problem is. I'm going to try downgrading to Sierra as before the upgrade to High Sierra didn't have this issue.

How to delay desktop files upload (to icloud)? Posted: 06 Sep 2018 12:06 PM PDT Is there a way that we can decide when do we give the permission to let macOS upload desktop folders and files? I have optimize storage left on, every time I download something on my desktop, (whether big or small) macOS immediately upload those files to icloud. Sometimes I am in the middle of something and it slows my machine down. [link] [comments]
Label Segregated Full Screen Windows Posted: 06 Sep 2018 11:04 AM PDT Is there a way to label these full screen windows? I work on multiple things at work and tend to have different full screen windows to segregate the work. Would be nice if on the bottom, instead of saying "Google Chrome & Notes" it could be a customized label. Wanted to see if there's an extension out there that already does this? Or a behind the scenes feature? Photo of what I mean here [link] [comments]
Posted: 06 Sep 2018 04:24 AM PDT Hey guys, so I'm pretty sure this was not the case with High Sierra but correct me if I'm wrong.. [link] [comments]

Homebrew Python3.7 MacOS 10.12.6 mystery Posted: 06 Sep 2018 07:19 AM PDT Often times when I do something related to Python 3.7 like say ... run the awscli, I get a popup that says ..
or
The app runs just fine in the CLI even though the annoying popup shows. Has anyone seen this ? Is there a solution to stop the annoyance? Upgrade is not an option (Corporate Policy and all that rot) [link] [comments]
Local snapshots ever-increasing. Can't delete. Filevault? Posted: 06 Sep 2018 05:29 AM PDT Hi! I started the encryption process with filevault around 2 days ago (and I haven't left my computer on to finish the process :p). I'm not sure if it's FileVault fault, or just TimeMachine, but a local snapshot was created:
This snapshot is ever-increasing and I'm unable to delete it with Whenever I run the command
But it's still there! D: Every bit of space I save by deleting stuff gets eaten by this snapshot. I haven't found much on this issue, I tried running first aid on recovery mode to no avail. Is there any hope, fellow redditors? [link] [comments]
How can I set up dual boot with High Sierra? Posted: 06 Sep 2018 04:43 AM PDT I have a MacBook Pro early 2011 with SSD configured for dual boot Yosemite and Snow Leopard. I would like to set up another partition for High Sierra (I have an empty partition for this purpose). I would prefer for it to use HFS+. How might I do this without adversely affecting the existing partitions? Thanks [link] [comments]
How to Exporting Chrome's password to Safari? Posted: 06 Sep 2018 02:57 AM PDT Chrome used to store password in the iCloud Keychain. But not any more since they lock you into Google Sync. Chrome does not allow export of password anymore. Safari can no longer ( or never has ) import password from Chrome. Other solution includes installing 1Password and than move the Chrome saves password one by one.... which is tedious. Does anyone know of any solution? [link] [comments]
How to move disk partition downward on disk? Posted: 06 Sep 2018 04:32 AM PDT Is there a partitioning utility that can move a partition "downward" on a disk without losing data? More specificslly, I have a 40gb portion right before the one I wish to alter. I want to erase the 40GB partition and add its space into the one after it, making it bigger. Apple disk utility does not allow this, so what are the third party tools that support this? Answers may suggest freeware, shareware, or paid commercial software. Thanks [link] [comments] |
