New App Discovery Thread for September 07, 2018

    Posted: 07 Sep 2018 06:35 AM PDT

Welcome to our weekly stickied App thread! This is a new idea so please feel free to offer your feedback about this thread or the subreddit in general in the comments. As usual if you have a serious issue with the subreddit please contact the moderators directly.

This thread is intended to help members of the /r/iphone community get informed about new apps that are out there. App developers may also use this thread to make users aware that their new app exists.

Please sort comments by 'new' to find questions/information that would otherwise be buried.

In this thread you can ask any iOS app related question that you may have. Anyone may offer advice on any issue.

Two examples of potential questions could be; "How do I learn to code an app?", or "How is app pricing determined?"

Developers, please include as much information about your app as possible, including size, price, release info, and anything else people request.

Finally, please stick to reddiquette and keep your comments on topic and substantive. Thanks for participating.

    Ask away!

I built an app that feeds you music news for the artist you are currently listening to on Apple Music.

    Posted: 06 Sep 2018 03:39 PM PDT

I got sick of always having to check Google, Facebook, Twitter etc for news and updates for my favourite bands. So we built an app that bring all news and updates straight to you. Would love some feedback!

It's early stages but would love your thoughts.

Apple should seperate the Volume settings like EU Limit and Locking Volume from the music app.

    Posted: 07 Sep 2018 09:00 AM PDT

I just wanted to set the max volume on my iPhone, but had to install the music app just for that.

One could think that while Apple now seperated Music from the iPhone that the settings are permanent too, but no.

To make such important system-wide settings depemdant on a semi-seperate, optional app is a bad idea in my opinion.

    What do you think?

I've tried Bluemail (can't use image) and Nine (can do IMAP on Android but not on iOS for some reason) so far. Thoughts?

How to stop all calls outside contact list without sleep mode

    Posted: 06 Sep 2018 02:34 PM PDT

I don't want to EVER receive a call from someone outside my contact list.

Every-damn hour "Hi this is Ann with a great deal.." "THANKS FOR USING COSTCO! We have a..." Recordings in Mandarin.

    I'm sick of it.

I followed some step-by-steps online but their solution is to turn on do-not-disturb mode and allow contacts to call.

But with that set up, my text messages don't chime or notify well.

    Any suggestions?

Is there a music app that remembers song position/what you were listening to?

    Posted: 07 Sep 2018 03:38 AM PDT

    This is driving me bananas!

I just want a music app that - if i return to it later in the day - picks up from what I was listening to.

I can return to the Podcast app after *weeks* and it remembers exactly the point I was up to in whatever I was listening to.

Apple's own music app does not do this. Neither does Cesium. Neither does Ecoute.

All of the above apps will return me to the correct position of the song I was listening to if it's just a short time later (eg press stop - go to the shop - return and press play). But if I'm listening to something at the start of the day, there's no chance in hell any of these apps will return me to where I was by the end of the day.

It's as though the app gets totally unloaded from memory and doesn't have any way of "bookmarking" where it was up to. The apps open as if it's the first time you've ever opened it.

My old iPod used to do this without any fuss... I can't believe I'm having trouble finding an app with such an obvious feature.

    Any ideas?

    Thank you :)

Best way to preorder the upcoming iPhones

    Posted: 07 Sep 2018 09:40 AM PDT

Hey guys, long time lurker here first post here. I'm getting really excited for the new phones getting launched next week, and I'm hoping to preorder the new XS plus or XS Max, whichever it'll be named. With the T-Mobile phone plan I'm on I have to pay for the phone 100% myself, so I was planning on ordering directly off Apple's website like I did my current iPhone 7 plus two years ago. So fellow Apple fans, what's the best way to get one and what do I need to know? Thanks!

    Hiya on iOS

    Posted: 07 Sep 2018 09:19 AM PDT

I'm trying to enable Neighborhood scam protection on my iPhone (latest version) and when I enter my phone number I'm getting "error occurred" when it tries to send me an SMS. I removed Hiya from call blocking, deleted Hiya, rebooted, reinstalled Hiya and I'm still getting the same error.

    Any ideas?

    Question about Apple Maps

    Posted: 06 Sep 2018 02:39 PM PDT

I was always under the opinion that Apple maps is not as good as Google maps, is that still true? Also I have heard that Apple is working on revamping the Apple maps app to be better and more accurate.

Asking because I will switch to an iPhone when the contract is up on my current phone in a year and plan to cut down on Google app usage, so they can stop collecting so much of my data

    Posted: 07 Sep 2018 09:11 AM PDT

So I'm anxious about iOS 12. Should I just sign up for the public beta program so I can get it now, or wait for the general release when it comes? I have an iPhone SE and an iPad 6th gen

Today l replaced my USBC-Lightning cable and noticed that it is thinner and cheaper. It was the same thickness as the USBC-USBC cord. Could this be the wire shipping with 2018 iPhones?

    New work phone... locked!

    Posted: 07 Sep 2018 08:21 AM PDT

I've inherited an iPhone 5s for work so I can stop using my own phone for work stuff. Only it's locked and the previous owner was fired and doesn't want to tell me the code! Is there anyway to unlock this or is it scrap? There's a few websites offering downloads that will fix it but my internal virus security is pinging out at those! Happy to take it to a shop if it's not crazy expensive.

    Thanks

Just moved to iPhone 8 (got it for free) from Android. Need some help with Messages

    Posted: 07 Sep 2018 08:11 AM PDT

I'm a bit new to iOS and just got a family members iPhone 8 for me to use now. I just got it on the network yesterday.

One thing that I'm seeing is that when people send me attachments over SMS/MMS, it sometimes creates a new "group" where it shows the message is between "friend & my phone number" instead of just "friend."

Is there a way to stop this in the settings somewhere or someway to prevent this from happening in the future? Because I really don't like the idea of people on Android having to have 2 conversations with me: one being attachments they send, and the other being the rest of the conversation.

Last half of downloaded song is silent, but still shows that it’s playing

    Posted: 06 Sep 2018 07:26 PM PDT

I use Apple Music for the majority of my new music, but as it didn't have a particular song I wanted, I downloaded it from YouTube (the only place it's available) and converted it to mp3 format. The whole song plays perfectly fine in iTunes, but on my phone it goes silent at 3:40 (full length is 6:23). It is the only song that does this as far as I know, and I have many other songs that are not from Apple Music. I've already tried deleting the song and resyncing with and without wifi connected. Can anyone recommend other things I can try to fix this?

Why not just name the new iPhones in accordance to the amount of years from when it first was released?

    Posted: 06 Sep 2018 03:14 PM PDT

Like the iPhone X was named accordingly due to its 10th year anniversary. Why not just name every iPhone after that XI, XII, XII and so on? Drop all the iPhone 9, Xr, Xs and , for heaven's sake, the Xs Max. I think Apple would have a pretty solid as well as future-proof naming scheme if they stuck to that pattern. Also, I would look very much forward to the iPhone XX in 2027.

"Find Events in Other Apps" Issue

    Posted: 07 Sep 2018 04:02 AM PDT

I'm running into an issue that I would be very appreciative if someone had a resolution to:

Our organization uses a shared Google Calendar to track staffing schedules for our office and I receive notifications (via email) when any changes are made to the calendar. For a while now, whenever I receive these emails regarding the calendar, the iPhone's "Calendar" app finds them and adds them to the Calendar, which I do not currently (nor do I want to) use. I know there is the feature in the "Siri & Search" area for "Find Events in Other Apps". I have this feature disabled, yet, I still seem to get these calendar invites placed on my calendar without my involvement. Does anyone have any idea how to prevent this from happening?

    If needed:

    iPhone Model: 6s

    iOS: 11.4

    Peel cases

    Posted: 06 Sep 2018 06:54 PM PDT

Do these cases have any problems? I want a very thin case but I know there will be dirt behind it. I read someone say that if you take the case off more than a couple times the case doesn't fit well anymore. Is this true? I want the case so I don't have to worry about setting the phone down or it rubbing against something when I put it on the floor behind my bed at night, but I'm not expecting any miraculous sand-blocking powers, and I am willing to clean the case quite frequently. I actually have a case right now that you'd expect would be a lot better, but I don't like how it basically completely hides the phone's design, and it also gets dirt in it after a day or so. Any input? Thanks!

My iPhone 8 Plus just made the weirdest noises.

    Posted: 06 Sep 2018 01:14 PM PDT

It sounded like a car failing to start, mixed with twitching noises. Is my phone gonna blow up? Should I get a new one?
