Anybody getting towards the end of life of their MBP? Posted: 21 Jul 2018 07:19 PM PDT My computer: Fall 2014 MBP, 250gb SSD, i7, 16 GB RAM. I have been using this computer heavily (web browsing, homework, ableton, final cut) for four years. My computer's age is becoming apparent as even just running a 1080p video on YouTube on Chrome, or watching an HD AVCHD file will heat up my computer. I recently got a new gig doing some video work (relatively light video editing), but I am afraid of reaching my aging computer's limit. I've taken some steps like switching to a less energy intensive web browser, but I want to know what r/MacBook would recommend. Should I attempt to open up and clean any debris that might be heating up my system? Should I turn the AC all the way down in my apartment whenever I edit? [link] [comments] |
SSD Upgrade for Macbook Pro Retina 13'' (Early 2015) A1502 Posted: 21 Jul 2018 09:50 PM PDT Anyone here who upgraded their Macbook Pro(model in title)? I have a 128GB SSD model and I have recently read that it is possible to replace the SSD. I saw someone recommend the Transcend Jetdrive. Has anyone else tried it or tried others? I hope to get insights from your experience with it. [link] [comments] |
Can a Macbook (latest, not Pro) use a 4k AppleTV as a second monitor? Posted: 21 Jul 2018 07:19 PM PDT I am wondering just how many pixels it's capable of. In order of less pixels to more:
I've only tested up to #3 but ideally it's capable of #5 -- I just want to know before buying a 4k TV. [link] [comments] |
early 2015 macbook pro came back with... 4 gb of ram? Posted: 21 Jul 2018 08:24 AM PDT Just got my computer serviced by apple for an unrelated issue. Came back with 4 gb of ram... already got another repair setup. Obviously something is unseated but I thought that the ram was soldered to the logic board on these models so how is this possible? Is my computer damaged? Is it safe to use? [link] [comments] |
[UK] DIY swollen battery replacement for late-2013 rMBP Posted: 21 Jul 2018 12:50 PM PDT Apple want £199 that I don't have spare to resolve the swollen battery in my Macbook, so I'm looking at the DIY option. I need a battery for the A1398 model and I'm wondering if there are particular brands or suppliers in the UK I should buy from (I don't want to end up with a battery that's going to fail in a few months or has mediocre capacity)? The battery pack looks like it's quite a snug fit in a lot of the replacement guide videso, but I've seen that replacement batteries also come with adhesive and I'm wondering if it's absolutely necessary to stick the battery to the chassis? Are there alternatives to the adhesive (to make future replacement easier)? [link] [comments] |
About Macbook Pro keyboard issues and keyboard covers. Posted: 21 Jul 2018 12:16 PM PDT My notebook broke and i'm really thinking about buying my first macbook. I really liked the pro 2017 model, but after reading some comments about the infamous butterfly keyboard problem i'm really concerned about it... Do you people think that these keyboard plastic covers really prevent the problem? If yes, what mark do you recommend? If the problem prevails what mac do you recommend buying that don't have this problem and that is not refurbished? I have no money to buy the new 2018 one. Thanks!! [link] [comments] |
Need a macbook for college. Which should I get? Posted: 21 Jul 2018 07:57 AM PDT I need to buy a macbook for school in the next few weeks. Which one should I get? I know the newest Pro just came out but only the one with the touch bar was updated and I don't know if I should spend the extra money for something I think is more of a gimmick. [link] [comments] |
MacBook Pro 2018 Fans control issue Posted: 21 Jul 2018 10:38 AM PDT Hi, i want to control the fans on new MacBook Pro, but neither iStat menus nor Mac Fans works correctly. The second one display me an error about Apple File System, the first one doesn't show anymore the option. Does someone know a workaround? [link] [comments] |
This morning I have been cleaning my Macbook Pro display and I've noticed disturbing view. Posted: 21 Jul 2018 06:51 AM PDT Is that the famous Retina staingate? https://ibb.co/gCW4yd https://ibb.co/g93jyd Anyone did the replacement via Apple store? How long does it take them? I guess I should remove all the private date before I hand them the laptop? [link] [comments] |
Macbook Air fan noise when Skyping Posted: 21 Jul 2018 03:52 AM PDT I get this problem where when I try to use skype or facebook messenger or even Viber desktop to video call my family, the fan just cranks up and the laptop overheats. Does anyone know whats the best solution?? I talked to apple support and they told me to use Facetime which I am not a fan of. [link] [comments] |
So I have the MBP 13” tb 2017 8/256 I’m looking to upgrade to a 15” 2018 Posted: 21 Jul 2018 05:59 AM PDT So I'm a Computer Science student and a Web Developer and I want something with a bigger screen, more RAM and a far decent processor. With all of the drama about the thermal throttling I've sort of been pit off by the 15". Does anybody on here have the 2018 15" with the i7? And can you give me an idea on thermals? Most posts and videos online are about the i9 and I'm not interested in that model. I'm interested in the i7 2.6GHz model with no upgrades. Also will it be a worthy upgrade from the 13" dual core i5 with 8GB of RAM? I'm pretty sure it'll be a big leap in performance right? [link] [comments] |
Low-key reason why MacBook's are pricey? Posted: 21 Jul 2018 10:25 AM PDT All windows laptops, as far as I know, come with an intel inside sticker on them. MacBooks however never have that sticker. Its likely that because of the "no sticker on the laptop" Apple has to pay Intel extra. What do you think about this theory? [link] [comments] |
