I know it's meant to cut the strong tie with Samsung to get lower prices and so the consumer can then get lower prices increasing demand, but the random 2-4% of people (approx.) getting LG OLED displays could very well be disappointed and I think that's unfair to the consumer to not know which they are purchasing. They had the same with TSM and Samsung making their chips but those two make very similar performing chips while Samsung is obviously better at displays than LG.

This is why I am an Apple user

    Posted: 30 Jun 2018 07:05 AM PDT

So my iPhone 8+ has been acting a little funny. The Taptic Engine would randomly stop working, but I would simply power down and restart the phone, and it would fix the issue. This wasn't a frequent issue, just mildly annoying. It's very unsettling hitting the home button with zero feedback.

Fast forward to Tuesday, my Taptic Engine fails again, this time for good. No hard reset fixed it, I even did a factory reset. Nada. I never use sound notifications and prefer vibrations. Well the Taptic Engine controls that, so no more notifications.

Luckily I live near an Apple store, so I schedule a Genius Bar appointment, grumpily expecting to shell out $100+ for a fix, maybe finding other issues etc.

At the store I'm greeted cheerily, they ask some questions, run diagnostics and sure enough, the Taptic Engine has broken. Apparently this is still under warranty, and they replaced it free of charge, no questions asked. Nice. This was a refreshing experience.

If I had an issue like that with another phone brand, what recourse would there be? Not likely a similar experience.

Finally switched to iPhone(8+) after having been with Android since gingerbread. Some initial reasons and 1st few hours of use.

    Posted: 29 Jun 2018 09:47 PM PDT

I'm already in love. iOS feels very fast, it's like using a computer vs's using an old phone(or in this case, an s7e). I don't know why I waited so long. My final push over the edge was a combination of several things. While I did have an iPhone 7+ for about 4 days my biggest regret was buyers remorse and returning soon after. Today decided to pick up the 256 gig 8+ in space grey. So far what I've noticed is just how fast it was to set up and transfer all my content over from Android, took no more than 5 minutes and even the general google apps that I've used on Android are faster and sleeker. While I can see how notifications might bug some people, they haven't bothered me and are going to be fixed in the next update.

-iOS Updates, you'll always have the latest iOS update.

-Apple Stores I can walk in and talk to people face to face about what's wrong if there is a problem(Apple Care too).

-Apple install base. If Apple does try and do something shady, there's a big enough install base that they'll be called out for it and fix it(Antenna Gate, BendGate)

-unified messaging system. simply put, iMessage is phenomenal.

    -end to end encryption.

-developers tend to care about how their apps look on iOS more than they do than on Android, and update them more frequently(in my experince).

-tried and true release cycle. Every 2-3 years Apple does a big refresh. No more guessing if your manufacture is going to totally leave you in the dust.

-The best android experience is on iOS.

-the iPhone 8 + feels incredibly premium and nicely weighted.

    -that silent switch

-apples color calibration for its screen

-parity with other apple software, feels right at home next to my rMBP 2015 model.

finally! What are some must have apps for iOS? Also, any amazing D&D and photography apps that I should have for iOS?

RAW Photos Look Bad on Photos App

    Posted: 30 Jun 2018 07:13 AM PDT

Looking at RAW photos on my iPhone, transferred from a DSLR, look badly pixelated. But when using the RAW Power application, everything looks sharp and refined. Anyone know why this is happening?

    iPhone 8 cracked screen....

    Posted: 30 Jun 2018 09:38 AM PDT

Just checked my phone and my screen is all cracked in the top centre literally on the right hand side of the front facing speaker and a few very fine lines coming down the screen.

Anyway, I was wondering will apple actually get this screen replaced on the same day? I've scheduled an appointment on Tuesday with the Genius Bar. I've read that it's quite common they take days to get it fixed?

Has anyone’s vibration just stopped working?

    Posted: 30 Jun 2018 06:04 AM PDT

I have an 8+ and recently the vibration stopped working. It's annoying because I can't tell if the screen or home buttons are being held down. Is it a bug? Or did I somehow break my phone lol

iPhone 7 Plus home Button repair?

    Posted: 30 Jun 2018 09:39 AM PDT

Does anyone know if iPhone 7 Plus home buttons can be replaced by independent companies rather than through Apple? My phone is a little under 2 years old and I accidentally shattered the home button (it was in my bag, no idea how it cracked..)

I'm in the UK if that makes any difference.

    Thanks

Need clarification on Touch ID sensor

    Posted: 30 Jun 2018 07:00 AM PDT

So here's my dilemma: I was swapping out the battery in an iPhone 5s. I was short on time and rushed things and ended up tearing the cable for the touch sensor. It looks like the cable came apart where it is joined in two places, with either glue or solder (unsure of how this piece is built. Hard to find information on it) My questions are: 1) can anyone link to me a page detailing the make up of the home button make up, including the cable that connects the screen to the board? 2) can this cable be fixed? 3) is it possible to transplant a cable from one of the home button replacements onto the original button to keep the Touch ID? 4 (and most importantly)) >>Will the original touch button work WITH Touch ID if I hang onto it and get it fixed properly AFTER temporarily replacing it with a home button replacement?<< I know the original Touch button is linked to the phone, and I know you cannot swap the original Touch for a third party one. My concern is that after temporarily fixing the phone it will brick the original Touch ID sensor from working. Thanks to any help at all.

    a quick question

    Posted: 30 Jun 2018 12:13 AM PDT

I just bought an SE... all good, but the battery drops pretty fast, and I'm not over-using it, just some music on soundcloud, instagram and making photos.

how can I maximize the battery life? when I charged it from 20% to 100%, it last longer, when I charged it from 30% to 80%, it drops like 11% only in one hour...

What are the differences between UAG case and PITAKA MagCase Pro?

    Posted: 30 Jun 2018 07:01 AM PDT

I know that UAG case is quite solid, but also saw someone complains these cases don't have accurate cutouts (I saw it on a subreddit), and someone recommended MagCase Pro as they look quite similar, both are very solid cases, so the question is, does anyone know what are the differences between them?

Is there a better iCloud Drive "Files" app available on the app store? Using "Files" to view PDFs kills me.

    Posted: 30 Jun 2018 10:24 AM PDT

    Hello,

I am a student and have all my textbooks saved on my Mac Air (so they save automatically to my documents folder). When I'm in a class and want to pull up a textbook, I use the Files folder to pull it up. However, the PDF viewer in Files is garbage — I can't even navigate by page number.

So, my question is: Are there any first or third party apps available that incorporate the iCloud Drive into a more user-friendly package?

    Thanks!

How do I get my lost messages back from a backup I did on my computer?

    Posted: 30 Jun 2018 09:10 AM PDT

So last night I hooked my computer up to my computer and it backed up but when it turned on I lost everything. I managed to get my photos and contacts back but I lost my messages. Is there any way I can restore them?

    Screen goes black.

    Posted: 30 Jun 2018 09:04 AM PDT

Whenever I'm watching YouTube my iPhone will sometimes go black, I don't know if it happens every time I look away from the screen. But I covered my front camera to see if it did it then and it did. I am clueless as to how to stop it.

Does anyone else constantly pick up their iPhone X with the screen upside down?

    Posted: 30 Jun 2018 09:00 AM PDT

I've had my iPhone X for about 7 months now (and love it) and I've noticed that when I pick up my iPhone when it's on my lap or sitting on the couch next to me and hold it up, the screen is upside down. All the previous iPhones had a weight to them that made it fairly easy to tell the orientation. It isn't as easy for me to feel the orientation of the iPhone X.

This isn't so much of a complaint, as more of an observation.

    Learned my lesson.

    Posted: 29 Jun 2018 10:17 AM PDT

Went to batteries+ to replace my screen on my iphone 8 because it was $20/cheaper than Apple.

Hate the new screen does not feel as responsive and the colors are "faded"

lesson learned , pay the little bit of extra money to get a guaranteed OEM replacement.

Can not restore. Not enough space on iPhone

    Posted: 30 Jun 2018 07:11 AM PDT

Trying to restore from backup and it says there is not enough free space on the iPhone. But the screen says there is 17gb free. Does anyone know how to fix this?

Battery life on a brand new iPhone SE

    Posted: 30 Jun 2018 05:39 AM PDT

I recently purchased a new SE from the Apple store and restored my previous iPhone's backup on it two days ago. It's on iOS 11.2.6, and I fully charged it yesterday. Before I went to bed the battery power was on 88% and I woke up about eight hours later to it being at 79%. I'm slightly paranoid about it having crappy battery life since I've heard terrible things about iOS 11.

For other SE owners, does this seem typical for a new device? I'd rather not upgrade to the iOS 12 beta since the phone is so new.

Calendar has weird events how do I remove?

    Posted: 30 Jun 2018 05:06 AM PDT

My calendar has a bunch of very weird holidays throughout each month on it, things like "Diwali" "Ashura" "yom kipper" I don't have any ties with any of those events and would like to remove them because it makes my calendar very busy but there is such a sheer amount.

Does anyone know how to get rid of these?
