Can we ban pictures of boxes?

    Posted: 05 Jun 2018 08:10 AM PDT

There have been more than enough posts that are just "I got a new iProduct today!" And the actual post is just a picture of box. That's it. Just a picture of a box. Why don't we just make a new sub called /r/pictureofabox or /r/iBoxes or something?

Is it possible to hack emergency alerts? I got this notification earlier this morning.

    Posted: 05 Jun 2018 07:26 AM PDT

At around 9:24 this morning, I got this this emergency alert notification.

It honestly creeped me out at first, but then creeped me out more that someone was trolling me or something by messing with my emergency alerts. Here's what it looks like when you tap on it.

    Anyone know what this is?

tbh iOS 11 feels like the beta of iOS 12 Beta 1

    Posted: 05 Jun 2018 09:07 AM PDT

I'm just amazed at how fast and fluid this beta is compared to 11.4. Battery life is nearly the same (maybe lower but not noticeable). Haven't encountered any bugs yet!

[Thoughts]: Is the purpose of the 6 year long iOS updates to convert the low-mid-range Android users?

    Posted: 04 Jun 2018 07:31 PM PDT

Consider this scenario. I've been a lifelong Android user until recently, with the purchase of a second hand 6s+. Apple got exactly $0 from the transaction. There are hundreds of millions of people alike who simply don't believe that a phone is worth more than $350. These types of buyers are useless for Apple, right?

Not really. I'm now paying every month for iCloud, purchasing apps from App Store, and will consider a Mac, especially since the latest Windows 10 update made it obvious that quality is not Microsoft's priority. Apple got $0 from hardware but since they got me into the ecosystem, their services are now milking my wallet.

So, a mid-range Android user, who is not a "premium" buyer by any means, and has never been the target of the $800 shiny new iPhone, is still bringing money to Apple.

What made me consider an iPhone is the fact that a cheaper model was available, and it was still supported and will be supported for 2 more years. What do I get from this "old" iPhone? The best and smoothest performance compared to any recent mid-high range Android I've used, excellent camera, best hardware quality, best privacy, latest innovation first.

The iPhone 5s will be supported for a whopping 6 years. This means iPhone 6, which is even cheaper than the 6s, can compete to attract low-range Android users because it'll be supported for 2x longer than any low-range Android if you buy it right now, and will be definitely faster than any low-range Android, and I'm not even going to talk about the camera, storage quality etc.

By providing lengthy updates, Apple is solving the age-long complaint that "iPhones are too expensive that's why I use Android."

    Let's recap:

    1. Android user gets a better bang for the buck by buying a used iPhone, rather than a mid-Android.

    2. Costs the same as a mid-Android.

    3. Apple still benefits through apps and services surcharge even though there is no income from the hardware sale. This encourages them to keep the updates coming.

    4. User enjoys a better hardware quality and software support.

Apple already dominates the premium market. Are they essentially competing against the low-mid-range Android market with the lengthy updates?

How my iPhone X has held up since release date.

    Posted: 05 Jun 2018 05:07 AM PDT

Pre-ordered iPhone X when they originally went live. Received my unit the day of the product launch. This device is leased with T-Mobile on the JUMP 12 month payment plan.

Here's how my device has held up. First off, the way I've been using my phone: - Spigen Hybrid Clear Case Rose Crystal - No screen protector - Try to prevent battery from discharging past 20%

Screen: Without a screen protector the screen has held up absolutely fine. Few micro scratches you can only see when the screen is powered off in direct sunlight. Other than that nothing noticeable.

Back glass: Has been covered by a case so no scratches/cracks.

Back Camera: Recently it's been smudging a lot more frequently where I need to use my clothing to wipe it before capturing my shot.

Battery: Battery Health Screenshot (https://i.imgur.com/WtaOF8P.png) Under the use of an average user the battery in my device can probably last a full 1-2 days still. However I'm a very heavy user. Where I can once make it to 8PM and finally have to charge, I've found myself bringing the ol' reliable battery bank with me everywhere I go like I previously did with my 7 Plus.

Stainless Steel Frame: Gets dirty very easily, so you have to clean and maintain your device every now and then to make it look clean and presentable. I haven't used this phone without a case so I'm not sure how the bands hold up against the outside world.

Software: Started off bumpy since the release of iOS 11. Once 11.3 came out however performance started to stabilize.

WiFi/LTE Radio: I have the intel modem in my X. Superior to my past Qualcomm 7 Plus, inferior to a budget Samsung Galaxy phone. (Apple really needs to step their game up with this one.)

Overall, the phone has aged very well and has handled and most importantly survived my winter months very well. Hopefully I can expect the same out of this device from now until September. (If I decide to upgrade this year.)

Anyone else super disappointed about this? Would have been nice, especially since dark themes have huge impact on iPhone X battery life.

iOS 12 DP1 is Surprisingly Stable

    Posted: 04 Jun 2018 07:55 PM PDT

This is probably part placebo but it already feels light years faster than iOS 11.4. It feels fast, fluid, cohesive, and nearly bug free. Nearly. There was one crash with the new stickers feature in photos but that's it. I also don't quite know how to build a shortcut with Siri either.

    Dark UI in iOS 12b1

    Posted: 05 Jun 2018 03:09 AM PDT

Was there always a dark UI for now playing on the lockscreen? If not this may indicate that Apple is working on a dark UI but it wasn't ready for WWDC yet.
