If you have an iPad and an Android Phone Google Messages now supports web view.

Anyone knows what happened here? It was working fine last night and the this happened in the morning. I usually keep my iPad on bed. Wondering if I pressed on the screen with my elbow? during sleep. But there are no visible cracks though.

    Upgrade help!

    Posted: 27 Jun 2018 10:22 AM PDT

    Hello!

My Dad is looking to upgrade his 2nd Gen Ipad (about time) and I'm trying to help him decide what to go for.

    The options are:

    A refurbed 128gb 2017 Ipad for £300 from Apple

    or

    The 2018 version, either 32GB or 128GB for £303 and £380 respectively.

Is the price difference between the 2017 and 2018 version worth it for someone who probably isn't make use of a digital stylus?

    Thanks!

Where do you find your e-textbooks?

    Posted: 27 Jun 2018 10:12 AM PDT

I'm in the process of going paperless, and I'm just curious where everyone finds their e-textbooks. Amazon has good deals on some, but I can't find all of my textbooks there and sometimes the e-texts are more than just getting a book. Also, what app do you use to keep them all organized?

    IOS 12 - Control Center

    Posted: 27 Jun 2018 05:31 AM PDT

When I first saw how the Control Center was moved to the top right on iPad, I thought it looked horrible.

However, I REALLY like how it now only requires ONE swipe down to open Control Center when watching a video in full screen for one main reason: It now means I can change the volume with one hand.

The case I use on my iPad makes the volume buttons a bit more difficult to press, so adjusting volume with the hardware buttons either meant using two hands (one to keep the iPad steady and one to change volume), or using one hand and inadvertantly tilting the iPad.

In IOS 11, if watching a video in full screen, you had to swipe up twice to open Control Center (one swipe to open that bottom arrow, then another on the arrow).

There are other apps than Procreate for drawing

    Posted: 27 Jun 2018 08:55 AM PDT

There are often questions about apps for drawing on the iPad with the Apple Pencil. Most suggestions goes to the app Procreate. Quite understandably as it really is very,, very good.

But there is another app which deserves being mentioned along Procreate. It is called Artrage. It can actually do a lot which cannot be done with Procreate. It can simulate all the art forms where people in the old days used paper or canvas.

There is a great del of overlap between the functionality of the two apps. But if you are into working like oldfashioned artists you probably want to use Artrage and not Procreate. In particular if you want to simulate oil painting. You can mix colours like you do with real paint. And you have a lot of different canvas types to choose from. I also seems to me that working with electronic water colour painting is far superior in Artrage.

Have a look. - Artrage is also available for your Mac and your Wacom tablet.

Please note: This is not a critique of Procreate. Merely an attempt to show that there are equally good alternatives with other features than those of Procreate. You can love both! And I have no shares in any of the companies!

Buy the 10.5 Pro now for $500 or wait?

    Posted: 27 Jun 2018 06:01 AM PDT

Is there wisdom in waiting for a new iPad pro release in the 10.5 in form factor? I'm a student that's really interested in using the iPad for note taking and media consumption (was previously looking at the 2018 iPad but for $200 extra, you get more storage and all the other benefits of the pro), and I'm unsure of whether or not to spring for the 10.5 now or wait and see if a new release will come out soon.

Do you think it's realistic to expect that eventually iPads/iOS will get mouse/trackpad support?

I'm wanting to buy this book but put it into liquidtext so that I can use the mindmap feature for note taking. Is this possible?

When I look online all im finding are 3rd party applications explaining how to save to both formats but not going from ibooks to pdf easily. I just don't want to waste $50

    Dodocool Smart Connector keyboard, opinions?

    Posted: 27 Jun 2018 01:08 AM PDT

Hello guys, I want a keyboard for my ipad pro 10.5 but I don't think that spending 180€ on the apple smartkeyboard is worth it. (Ok, it's awesome, but it's still 180€). I have found this Dodocool keyboard that has a smart connector, backlight, and the case has also the apple pen slot, 50€.

Anybody has tried it? Do you think it can be a good, but cheap alternative?

EDIT: Bought it, I've found a 20% coupon. 40€. I will regret this in my next life.

iPad 2018 case similar to the Smart Keyboard?

    Posted: 26 Jun 2018 10:05 PM PDT

Is there a keyboard/case for the 2018 iPad similar to the Smart Keyboard for the iPad pros? Is Logitech's folio keyboard case the closest thing?

Looking for an handwriting/doodling app with "fountain" or "nib" pen

    Posted: 26 Jun 2018 03:02 PM PDT

The use case is simply handwriting and penmanship practice. I'm not looking for a Procreate-level of offerings, and I already use OneNote for actual notes. Just how a "pencil" would respond to the Pencil pressure and write light or dark, a "fountain pen" would vary the thickness of the strokes with the pressure.

Is the Paper app by 53 still the most relevant app for this use case, or have you used something better? Built-in dot-grid template would be a plus.

EDIT: Typo in title, I know. It bothers me that I can't edit it.

    Smart Keyboard while drawing?

    Posted: 26 Jun 2018 07:20 PM PDT

So I use my iPad Pro 10.5" for school and I recently purchased the apple smart keyboard for it. Usually when I am in class I like to lay my ipad flat on the table with the apple keyboard also laying flat on the table but extending out from the iPad so I could still type if I wanted to. Its nice to switch straight from drawing to typing without having to adjust the iPad to sit propped up on the smart keyboard.

The problem is that when the iPad isn't sitting propped up on the smart keyboard the smart keyboard doesn't work and the iPad wants to use the on screen keyboard. Is there a way to make the iPad want to stay with the smart keyboard at all times.

The iPad still stay connected to the smart keyboard its just not sitting on the long magnet strip that holds the iPad upright.

    Any ideas?

Time to buy new iPad Pro: right after release or wait for a while?

    Posted: 26 Jun 2018 06:48 PM PDT

I am planning to get new iPad Pro this September or October. I don't know whether I should wait awhile or buy right after they announce it.

This is because as I see in iPhone, first phone is more likely to have some hardware errors and Apple secretly fix them as they product more phones. Is this true for iPad?

Some user complain about iPad Pro not charging, not responsive, not connect to wifi. Please let me know your experience as an early buyer.
