| Posted: 05 Jun 2018 07:21 PM PDT When I watch 4K HDR content on Netflix I always notice the crisp clean sharpness that comes with 4K HDR. But when I watch 4K HDR content I've purchased on iTunes it never looks anywhere near as good. What am I doing wrong? I have 400 Mbps, 4K HDR 10, I checked the cable, I checked the settings, and still iTunes content doesn't look any better than HD. I've changed the settings to Best Picture Available and turned off quick start and still nothing. I've tried multiple movies, new and old. Some that were "free 4K upgrades" and some that were new releases and bought in 4K straight from iTunes and they all look no better than 1080p. I'd think that it was something on my end as far as internet or the tv, but Netflix always looks great so I know that's not it. Any advice? [link] [comments]  |

| Any HDMI switch recommendations that work for the Apple TV 4K in 60hz HDR? Posted: 05 Jun 2018 07:47 PM PDT I found out this evening after getting things set up that basically all of my HDMI cables are old so I'm going to get some of those, but my TV only has one HDMI port that's HDR capable so I need a switch to run Apple TV and my Blu-ray player (and maybe a PS4 Pro in the future). The reason I'm here asking this is that it seems some cables and switches work with everything BUT the Apple TV 4K so I want to make damn sure before I buy anything. Amazon has a ton that claim to work but none with stellar reviews. Any of you fine folks have any recommendations? [link] [comments]  |

So I recently got a decent job and want to blow my entire paycheck as soon as possible, which means I can now afford the luxury stuff I stopped keeping track of a long time ago. So I'm a 4K newbie with no 4K content, have a 4K tv with no hdr, an iPhone 6, an old Nvidia gaming pc, an old PS4, Netflix, YouTube, a huge steam backlog, a girlfriend that's too hot for me, and a slight alcohol problem. My question is, am I better off with an Nvidia Shield pro or an Apple TV 4K for my needs? - I might want the occasional ability to stream a game to the tv, like jackbox or something with bros, but I heard the Apple TV might get steam link soon. - I will upgrade my speakers eventually, and I am extremely interested in Dolby atmos. - I will be playing a mix of local media, streaming, 1080p, and 4K. - I know there are some hassles with the Nvidia in terms of switching from SDR to HDR and changes in resolution, which I don't know will be fixed. - I know Apple TV doesn't stream YouTube in 4K, but I don't really follow content creators that do anything in 4K. - I don't know if plex is for me, but I heard Apple TV might have shoddy plex integration, which I don't know might be a problem in the future. | Question about buying as a 4k streaming device. Posted: 05 Jun 2018 07:31 PM PDT I mostly stream through Vudu and have a couple questions. The Vudu app on my TV (Samsung ks8500) is utter shit. It pixelates all the time and there's no fix in sight. When it doesn't pixelate, the picture is fantastic. My backup streaming device is my Xbox one X but the quality when I stream just isn't the same. Games look great but Netflix or Vudu are lacking. How is apple TV as a 4k streaming device for those two apps? The addition of Dolby Atmos is fantastic and I'm considering getting one. Thanks for any input. [link] [comments]  |

When watching 4k iTunes movies that also have Dolby Vision, or DV Netflix content, the AppleTV will automatically switch from SDR to HDR, and I can see the logo in the top right of my TV... but it doesn't switch to DV. Just HDR. Is this intended? Should I see DV in the top right? When watching via the built in TV apps I can see the Dolby Vision logo. | Posted: 05 Jun 2018 07:17 PM PDT Is anyone else experiencing a pink screen when certain movies play back in Dolby Vision? So far Pacific Rim Uprising and Power Rangers are constantly starting up with a pink screen. The only quick fix is the unplug the HDMI cable out of the back of my Apple TV. Downfall is I have to do this everytime I stop the movie. Any ideas? Other troubleshooting - swapped HDMi cable, swapped HDMI ports. Same result. TV - TCL 55C803. [link] [comments]  |

Posted: 05 Jun 2018 06:44 AM PDT Will it fuck us (abroad) that use vpn/dns services to login while abroad to access the cable provider and content we pay for? I'm a bit confused about a few other things: 1st: Single sign in never really worked for me. I still had to go do the website pin debacle for every single app, one by one. So I know it was announced a year ago, but it never worked for me. 2ndly: in the keynote she talked about the Apple TV widget in the control center like it was a new feature... but we already have it, so was she referring to something else that went over my head? Posted: 05 Jun 2018 08:26 AM PDT I wish I had possibility to watch all the cable tv without crappy set-top box, even more crappy dvr and even more and more crappy CAM module in TV (with every channel lineup upgrade I need to tune all channels from scratch) like there is now in Poland. To have thing worse Canal+ does not offering myCanal in Poland even if this is literally the same company.(usually managers are more stupid than programmers) I am not accustomed to be 2nd class citizen so using often DNS/VPN to access US and UK content and it got me thinking. two years ago there was some legislation in Congress that had force operators to provide their service to people owning devices like Apple TV, Chromecast, Roku etc without forcing them to rent their crappy boxes. Does anyone know if this is in effect? And if Directv wants to do their service on Apple TV does it mean they abandon the dish completely? Can Apple TV serve as satelite receiver? | Question about Infuse, MrMC, Plex, and DTS-HD-MA Posted: 05 Jun 2018 01:52 PM PDT Greetings! I'm hoping someone can clear up something for me. I have a number of Blu-ray lossless rips with DTS-HD-MA audio, all sitting on a Plex server. And of course, I want to watch it all on my Apple TV. When I browse to those movies using Infuse's Plex functionality, it reflects the correct audio format and says, for example, "DTS-HD-MA 5.1" on the menu. When I browse to those same movies using MrMC's Plex plugin, they say "DTS 5.1" and don't reflect the HD-MA. I'm assuming this means that Infuse can play the full DTS-HD-MA track as PCM, and I'm guessing that Plex doesn't see MrMC as being able to handle DTS-HD-MA, so it defaults to the core plain-old DTS 5.1 track. Am I right about this? Am I missing something? I'm still learning about a lot of this so I want to make sure I don't have any fundamental misunderstandings. TIA! [link] [comments]  |

| Posted: 05 Jun 2018 06:41 AM PDT I just purchased an ATV 4 for the living room. Everything airplays perfectly from my iPhone except for MLB at Bat. The loading icon spins for a bit then it just goes back to the ATV home screen. Same from my iPad. I have an ATV 3 in the basement and it works with no problems. I know that ATV has an MLB app. For certain reasons i need to use airplay from a device. Thanks [link] [comments]  |
| New Infuse app home screen customization? Posted: 05 Jun 2018 12:21 PM PDT Just downloaded the new Infuse app to work with my network drive, and since this was being set up on a fresh TVOS install there isn't any previous data to pull from. No big deal. But where the old version put any network share that you tagged as a "favorite" right on the home screen... Now it is cluttered with genre and type icons all over the place, and the favorite shares don't appear unless you do a TWO step process of first "add to home screen" (which wasn't specific that it was only the app home screen and not the ATV home screen... Which would have actually been cool and appreciated) and then choose "save as favorite." But the Infuse home screen is still cluttered with all the genre and type (huge) icons, and the favorites then get buried almost off the screen since you have to now scroll sideways to get them. The question: Is there any way to customize and clean up the home screen? I don't browse by genre or type. I have my media saved on my network share and I'm sure lots of other people have a similar method of organizing, and this is just cluttered with things I didn't ask for. On a separate note, why do devs and providers (looking at you Directv) feel the need to constantly change the UI so drastically and not offer the option to revert or customize? [link] [comments]  |

This happened when i updated my ATV 4K to 11.4. In 11.3.1 they worked fine. Tried everything with all of my iPhones and iPads. Already Restored my ATV and started from scratch, but still not working. Posted: 05 Jun 2018 11:46 AM PDT I've been trying for awhile to keep track of my tv viewing time and this feature would be a fantastic addition to tvOS. Being able to have set time allowances for apps and being able to monitor the time overall would really really help myself I know. I don't know if anyone else feels the same just thought it'd be a nice addition for people like myself as well as families.
