Should I get the 2013 MacBook Pro or a 2015 MacBook Air

    Posted: 26 Jun 2018 07:10 PM PDT

I'm looking to get a MacBook to use as my daily drive however, I am torn between these two laptops. If there are any other suggestions (besides windows obviously) I'd be willing to listen. Edit: I would use the laptop for basic homework, music editing, some light coding(sql, python etc) and would like to have portability to be a factor. I have a Windows desktop for more intense work and gaming.

    Back to school promotion question

    Posted: 26 Jun 2018 10:06 PM PDT

Hi, does anyone know what time the back to school promotion for university students usually is? I know they haven't released the date officially but was wondering when the promo was last year, I know you can get education pricing anytime of the year but I want to wait and see if I can also get a pair of beats or whatever their offering when I purchase my MacBook. Thanks,

Looking to get a new Mac for Uni

    Posted: 26 Jun 2018 09:17 PM PDT

Currently I have a late 2011 MBP which is dying on me and Im headed into my 2nd year of university and going to need a new Mac. I was looking at the base MB and MBP and wanted to know which one would be better for my use. I would only be using it for taking notes during lectures, word documents, powerpoints, netflix/youtube, etc. Any thoughts?

LG's 38UC99-W charges 15" MBP with touch bar

    Posted: 26 Jun 2018 04:30 PM PDT

Most of the posts/comments I saw before purchasing 38UC99-W told me I can't charge my 2016 15" MBP w/ TB with 38UC99-W because the output isn't 85W (but I purchased it anyway because of the huge discount).

But after using this combo for about a week and I can confidently say it charges the laptop in most cases. Just a single USB-C connection and you're done!

The only issue is that if you run games (on a mac?!), the charger can't keep up and the battery level decreases slowly over time--10% decrease over three hours-- which isn't too bad in my opinion.

If you go into settings, the AC charger info shows it is charging at 57 watts.

    Hope this information helps!

Already have the 15” but considering the 13” does this sound dumb?

    Posted: 26 Jun 2018 11:30 AM PDT

So essentially I currently own a 2016 15" base model. I like it a lot but I think the touch bar is a 100% gimmick and I would prefer function keys. Additionally, I feel like the 13" might be a better form factor for me because I already have a desktop so I mostly use the MacBook on the go somewhere (train, plane, small lecture hall desk, dinner table, on my lap, etc). My workload for the device consists of all kinds of programming, very rarely some Adobe CC (I almost always do it on my desktop), and general web browsing, word documents, Reddit, YouTube, the usual. So mainly in terms of non-standard stuff just programming. I'm thinking about picking up the 13" nTB with 256 GB and seeing how I like the form factor. Best Buy currently has that one priced at $1300 and I've bought computers for other family members at Best Buy so I have their elite status giving me a 45 day return period. I'm thinking of getting the 13" and trying it out during the period and if I decide I like it a lot I can either keep both or I could sell the 15" which is selling for around $1500 on Swappa so more then the 13" costs in the first place. Does this sound ridiculous to you guys? I just think for programming I will prefer the physical function keys and then the form factor might be better as well. Thoughts?

    Purchased new MacBook 2017 question

    Posted: 26 Jun 2018 06:57 AM PDT

    Hello friends!

I upgraded my 2014 MacBook Pro (broke) for a 2017 MacBook Pro (no Touch Bar) and I LOVE it. One thing... With my old MacBook I could close the lid with no battery drain. Is there an option to close the lid of this MacBook (basically sleep mode) without battery draining? It doesn't drain too much but I would rather charge my laptop to 100% and have it the same when I open it...

Thank you all! Sorry if this is a stupid question/against the rules. I forgot which options I had with my old MacBook where I could put the computer to sleep with no battery drain.

15" Macbook Pro Mid-2010 model with Linux (Elementary OS) one year later

    Posted: 26 Jun 2018 01:41 AM PDT

Just want to share with you my overall impressions of my 15" Macbook mid-2010 (wich I really like and I'm the kind of guy who has who rarely throw away a good system) who's performance was really terrible with Mac Os (I'm not blaming Apple for that) and that I did boost with its maximum 8 Gb of Ram and 120 G of SSD and even though it was mostly unusable until I did decide to switch over to Linux (Elementary OS) and everything become awesome: fast and reliable let's say to the extend that I'm using it for light video editing (Open Shot) and some other graphic design (Inkscape and Gimp) and of course web browsing (Firefox).

My out take from this experience for the last year that you can still use you old macbook (not as a primary machine) by just switching to a Linux and you will still have a huge application choice, the only couple of odds are battery life witch is 4 hours instead of 6 and sometimes the overheat but beside that keeping your old Macbook is still possible.

    Help with bootcamp

    Posted: 26 Jun 2018 06:20 AM PDT

After sending my Macbook for repair about 5 months ago, it came back without bootcamp. Now I feel like bootcamping my Mac again but here's the thing, when I check storage it says I have 50.49GB under "BOOTCAMP". But when I open "Startup Disk" there is no bootcamp option. Anyone knows how to fix it?
