Should I upgrade 2010 Macbook Pro for 2015 Macbook? Posted: 23 Jun 2018 12:15 PM PDT I have the opportunity to buy a used 2015 Macbook 1.1 GHz (256GB SSD) for $500 CDN, and am wondering if it might be worth upgrading for. I'm currently using a 2010 Macbook Pro 2.4 GHz that I put 10GB of ram and a 500GB SSD into, and have a powerful desktop for all heavy duty work. I mainly use my laptop for university work, but will be heading to Thailand for 4 months and will be running a fair amount of lightroom on it. If I don't buy this Macbook I'll likely be purchasing a new battery for my MBP which will cost ~$100 and will use that until it dies. Just wondering if the Macbook will be worth the $400 upgrade or if I should just juice some more life out of my MBP. Thanks! [link] [comments] |
Video and Music playback keeps randomly pausing on Macbook Pro Posted: 23 Jun 2018 03:19 PM PDT So this problem just started yesterday, where I am trying to watch videos in VLC, or listen to music in iTunes, or Quicktime or other media, it keeps pausing in the middle of playback, and this happens every few minutes which makes watching a movie or listening to an album almost impossible. This is happening with stuff that is already downloaded, not being streamed, and everything else seems to be running normal on the computer without any issues, browsing the internet and doing other things all seem to be working fine. Does anybody have any idea what the problem is here and how I might fix it? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 23 Jun 2018 09:56 PM PDT Looking at getting one to send phone to my TV. A ton of reviews saying it won't work with ios11. Did they fix the bug or does it really not work anymore? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 23 Jun 2018 05:20 PM PDT Hello all, I've been having this problem for quite a while now. So every time I attempt to log in, it gives me that message. I've tried everything I could find on the web (i.e reset NVRAM, SMC etc) and nothing has worked. Earlier I tried to log in with my gf's info and logged in fine. Then I grabbed her iPad, used my info and logged in with no problem. Mac is up to date with everything. I cannot find any article/post pertaining to my issue. Thank y'all! [link] [comments] |
MacBook Pro 13" Mid 2012 Won't Turn On Posted: 23 Jun 2018 08:29 PM PDT Hello everyone, My beloved MacBook Pro won't turn on. The battery shows fully charged but when I press the power button nothing happens. I took it to the Apple Store and the person helping me told me very quickly that the logic board needed to be replaced, too quickly if you ask me. I was also informed that it's would cost around $400 dollars which is more than the MacBook is worth to me. I have a new laptop already but would like to get this one going to surf the internet, etc. When I took it to the Apple store the person helping me tried to boot it after I explained my issue and after seeing that it didn't start she immediately said it would need a new logic board. Seeing how little troubleshooting she did it didn't necessarily make me feel very confident in her diagnosis. Before it stopped turning on the only issue I had was that the battery was at the end of it's life. However the MacBook worked great while plugged in. If the MacBook needs a new logic board I will buy a replacement and install it myself but I want to make sure that's the issue first. Symptoms: Shows fully charged on the battery meter. MagSafe connector is green. Nothing happens when I press the power button. When I took the bottom plate off and I press the power button I can see the fan twitch, it won't fully spin but twitches about 1-2mm. I also replaced the battery with an aftermarket one hoping it would help but it didn't make a difference. Any and all help is appreciated! [link] [comments] |
Weird iMac Intermittent Shut Downs Requiring SMC Resets Posted: 23 Jun 2018 07:51 PM PDT Alright I've got a doosey for you here. A lot of backstory and troubleshooting is involved as well as 2 rounds in the Apple repair room. Late 2013 27" iMac 3.5 i7 3tb fusion drive (2x4gb Apple 1600mhz)(2x8gb aftermarket 1333mhz ram) 4gb GeForce GTx 780 running current macOS. In April the hinge mechanism failed and shortly after the rotational portion of the fusion drive also failed. Due to apples quality program for the mechanism, the iMac was taken to an Apple store to have both issues resolved. During repair, the power supply was damaged and replaced at no cost to us. In early June, the iMac shut down. It did not respond to the power button, despite short and long holds. No fan noise, no hard drive vibration on the housing it's dead. To make it turn on the iMac had to be SMC reset. (Disconnect from power for 15 seconds, plug in for 15 seconds then short press power.) This works every time to make the iMac turn on however it only stayed on for 20 minutes, then 10 minutes, then 5. Tested in multiple user accounts, same issues. Left on login menu, same. Pulled 3rd party ram, same. Disconnected all accessories, same. Booted from external boot drive with known good macOS, same. We took it back to the Apple store as we were within the 90 repair period. They replaced the logic board at their cost citing the damaged power supply. It was doing great, until just now. It has begun to do it again. Replaced parts: Power supply, hinge, hard drive, logic board graphics card combo. Thoughts? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 23 Jun 2018 04:02 PM PDT iPhone 6 version 11.3.1 I am trying to "erase" my T-Mobile iPhone as they instructed me to do when I ended my service with them, so that I may unlock it to a new cell phone provider. But in order to erase the phone so I must enter my iCloud password that I've forgotten. I've tried every password or combination I could think of and don't want to keep trying and getting locked out. 5 days ago I went to the iforgot website and went through the account recovery request process (it now says I have 4 hours left to wait) but the message that it's giving me says: we will send instructions to the trusted number on file. Why can't they just email it to the iCloud email address on file? There's no way for me to change this and I've talked to 4 different people over customer service who tell me that it will probably still send instructions to me email (but that is NOT what the message on iforgot is indicating)... Any advice or anecdotal experience you can share would really help me because I'm not very savvy and my brain feels like a pretzel trying to figure all of this out. Thank you for your patience and any information you can give me! [link] [comments] |
Digital Art: iPad Pro vs. new iPad? Posted: 23 Jun 2018 08:34 AM PDT I'm looking to get back into digital drawing. I've been looking at both the pro and the iPad 6. Both are compatible with the Apple Pencil which is what I want. I use the app Procreate if that makes a difference. I'm a beginner drawer. Price isn't a huge factor in this decision, just want to know the overall difference between the two when it comes to making artwork. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 23 Jun 2018 06:04 PM PDT I've got a rose gold At&t iPhone 6s Plus with 128 gb storage- It has shaky front camera epileptic iPhone 6s plus And a cracked front screen- It would cost $100 to replace the cracked screen and $90 for the camera at a third party repair store- Should I go ahead and upgrade with the current condition that my iPhone is in - the value is probably $100 or less? OR Am I better off repairing the iPhone for $190 then selling it for $300? Your experience and thoughts? And if I wanted to sell old iPhones- which would be best way to sell it? eBay or craigslist or? [link] [comments] |
Bring Back Deleted App From iCloud Posted: 23 Jun 2018 05:59 PM PDT I backed up an app to my iCloud and then deleted it off my phone, how do I bring back that app from iCloud with the data it had back to my phone? [link] [comments] |
MacBook = Dead - Need direction. Posted: 23 Jun 2018 02:03 PM PDT Hi All! About 2 years ago I was on vacation and my MacBook was plugged in to what is believed to be an unreliable outlet. It never turned on after that. It will show a solid white light and "sound like" its powering up. But the screen doesn't turn on. The powering noise only occurs when it's on a charger, without one it doesn't even attempt to boot up. After taking it for inspection, it appears to have a dead motherboard, which i assume got fried by the outlet. However, I'm wondering if I can save it at all. Was able to get the contents on it backed up onto a hard drive.. but are there any options for me to get this baby up and running again? [link] [comments] |
Is there any way I can save pictures from a long iMessage? Posted: 23 Jun 2018 03:10 AM PDT Hey guys. So I'm currently on 9.3.3 and want to update to the newest iOS. I currently have an almost year old or more iMessage with my child's mother with hundreds of photos and videos of my child. I was wondering if there was any way (maybe with a Mac book or something) I can extract all those pictures and videos? The entire iMessage takes up a whole bunch of gb and with the new update I want to start fresh but I don't want to lose all those pictures and videos. Can anyone help me with a method? Thanks in advance [link] [comments] |
2015 MacBook Pro w/ Retina Screen and Iresq Posted: 23 Jun 2018 12:47 PM PDT College student here, one night passed out in lazy boy with my laptop resting on me and wake up to it laying on the ground and the screen showing dark horizontal lines as well as vertical thin banded lines where the black section of the screen was on the side that I found my Laptop laying on. Have AppleCare, try to fib on the accidental damage part and they quote me 770 for new logicboard because they're saying they found liquid damage to my laptop. I have never had any spill on my laptop beside a few drips from my waterbottle on a few keys maybe but nothing that impaired function until that drop...Anyway I've been shopping for a cheaper fix and found Iresq that will do screen replacements for either an LCD screen replacement or full display repair. I am not sure which one of these I would need but has anybody had any experience with Iresq? will it void my Apple Care warranty? Are there any other trusted companies out there I should use? Which Macbook Pro? Most intensive program, Lightroom. Posted: 23 Jun 2018 10:27 AM PDT Starting to look at getting a new MBP coming from an early 2011 MBP and having to downsize and get rid of my gaming PC. I don't really have a preference between a 13" or 15" screen. The most intensive program I'll use it for is Lightroom and maybe a little Photoshop. Otherwise its main use will be as my everyday computer (internet surfing, Office) and iTunes manager, no gaming. I'm intrigued by eGPUs but not sure how much that might help a program like Lightroom. Suggestions on what model might suit my needs? [link] [comments] |

Bootcamp Windows 10 No Wifi Hardware Detected. Posted: 23 Jun 2018 07:31 AM PDT Thanks in advance. I am using a Macbook Pro (Retina, 13 inch, early 2013) My current OS is High Sierra 10.13.3 My Processor is 2.6 GHz Intel Core i5 I have 8 GB of Ram And I have Intel HD Graphics 4000 1536 MB When I successfully partition Macintosh HD for Bootcamp Windows 10, it shows that the system does not detect the WiFi internet hardware detected. My Wifi works on my mac. The Wifi used to work before I tried repartitioning the disk again. I have ran first aid on my disk and tried using bootcamp to install Windows 10 countless of times. Please let me know what to fix/do. Thanks again. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 23 Jun 2018 04:34 AM PDT This is on a Macbook Pro Retina 2012 with OS X El Capitan 10.11.16 I deleted a file in one of my folders and in its place second MAC HD has appeared that, when checked with "Get Info", seems to be the same as my original MAC HD except for the fact that its Kind is Document instead of Volume and it has the default file icon. I can't seem to move it from the folder it has appeared in, and it can't be sent to Trash when I checked. Is there any way to merge it back with the original MAC HD for my computer? Here is an image of what appears when I check it with Get Info from my Finder. The one on the left is info from my original MAC HD, and the one on the right is from the file that has just appeared. Posted: 23 Jun 2018 07:08 AM PDT I have a MBP A1502 which was working fine, then refused to turn on. Magsafe had no light. I let it sit for 6 months, then charged it and it started working again. Then after a few weeks, same thing - would not turn on. I removed the rear panel, and while looking at things I put it up on it's back (screen open, and on my desk) and it suddenly turned on. I put it back together and everything was fine for a month. Battery seems fine, I tend to get 5-6 hours of use when it's charged. I also recalibrated the battery (I think) as well as did a clean OS install and upgraded to ... Sierra? Whatever the latest OS is as of about 3 weeks ago. Now out of the blue it won't turn on again. No light on the Magsafe. Any thoughts? [link] [comments] |
No way to turn off iCloud Music Library in iTunes? Posted: 23 Jun 2018 12:40 PM PDT I've never used any of Apple's cloud-based offers. I have all of my music on my computer or phone, and that's how I like it. When U2's Songs of Innocence dropped into people's libraries, it didn't even appear in mine, because I had any setting that would have allowed such a thing already turned off. Lately, I've noticed duplicate songs showing up in my music library, and I've only just realized that they're iCloud versions of songs I'm purchasing. iTunes treats them as separate songs, so the same song can show up twice in a playlist. I can delete the iCloud version, but I don't want to have to clean clutter from my library every time I buy something from the store. I don't want them to show up at all, like it's always been. Apple's support page provides instructions on how to enable (and disable) iCloud Music Library. What this support article from 7 months ago misses is that the iCloud Music Library option no longer exists. Any advice? Windows 10 [link] [comments] |
Posted: 23 Jun 2018 08:03 AM PDT I've had my 2016 15in touch bar MacBook Pro for a while now and I brought it to Florida via plane and when I land and take my Mac book out it starts making this weird crackling noise, I don't know how to fix it, any ideas? [link] [comments] |
Can’t boot back to OSX from Windows 10 through bootcamp? Posted: 23 Jun 2018 10:57 AM PDT I've tried everything. When holding "option" during bootup, "WINDOWS" is the only available drive. Using share location on another apple device Posted: 23 Jun 2018 10:20 AM PDT Hi, I have shared location on with my parents who are overly protective on my iPhone within a groupchat. Is there anyway I can transfer the share location to my old iPad mini without them realizing? I would like to have them see that I am on the map at home (me leaving the iPad mini at home) even if I'm going out with my iPhone. Is that possible? How would that work? Thank you so much! Can't resize or move windows using Magic Mouse 2, USB mouse works fine Posted: 23 Jun 2018 03:42 AM PDT In osx high sierra I can't resize windows, I can sometimes get a window to move a little when I drag it, but that generally doesn't work either. I plugged in a normal USB mouse and that worked just fine, moving and resizing. Is the magic mouse broken, or am I missing some key drivers? [link] [comments] |
Any recommendations for huge asl log files taking over my computer? Posted: 23 Jun 2018 12:52 AM PDT I am running Itunes latest version on Windows 10 and getting huge log files building up within days. I can delete them if I close everything out and restart the operating system but that is becoming required more frequently. Trying to delete without restart gives the message that the files are in use and can't be accessed. The log files show up under roaming and I have seen posts about this issue in the past but no definitive solutions. Is there no permanent fix for this? I need Itunes to download podcasts as I think doing it manually through rss feeds will be a real chore - but I am open to suggestions of how to work around Itunes or ways to run it more efficiently. If I download the podcasts and then close out Itunes will that minimize the creation of these log files? They regularly run 120 - 250 GB if I let them go and take up all the available hard disk space. I see plenty of ways to manage my ipods and mp3 players without Itunes (mostly I am using a Sansa mp3 player just by drag and drop anyway) but need to regularly download over 100 individual podcasts. I would love to eliminate the need for Itunes but need an efficient way to download all these sources. I see problems like this going back several years but there seems to be no real fix that has been worked out. I can delete the files with some extra effort but is there any ways I can prevent these from forming or at least delay them ballooning out of control? Any suggestions welcomed. TIA.
