| Recovery Mode Seemingly Disfunctional - 2017 15" MBP Posted: 27 Jun 2018 06:48 PM PDT I've got a 2017 15" Macbook Pro who's MacOS installation is, to put it mildly, in a state of disarray. Fortunately I'm not concerned about any of the data on it; I just want to get it working. To detail what is happening: The boot process does not proceed past a typical black screen with a circle/slash. In normal recovery mode (Cmd+R): Disk utility reports one volume (Container disk 1, APFS Container). If I attempt to erase it with APFS, it errors "An internal state error has occurred". If I attempt to erase it with MacOS Extended Journaled, it errors "The volume 'recovery' on disk1s3 couldn't be unmounted because it is in use by process 0 (kernel)." Reinstall MacOS cannot progress past the "Select Disk" screen due to no disks being listed as available targets. In internet recovery (Shift+Opt+Cmd+R): Same thing. Judging by the error message on the last one, my thinking is that I need a USB recovery drive. No problem. Well, kind of. My second laptop is a 2016 13" nTB MBP which has the Mojave Beta on it (smart move, I know). I have been having the darndest time trying to create a USB recovery drive on this system.
I've got a genius bar appointment scheduled in a few days, but I'd really like to try and get this thing working before then. Anyone been in a similar situation and have feedback on how to get back to a working state? [link] [comments]  |
| Posted: 27 Jun 2018 08:34 PM PDT Hello, About a week ago my iphone 6 on 11.3.1 starting acting funny. It randomly started restarting itself during use. I bought a replacement battery thinking that was the issue. Waiting for the battery to arrive the issue only became worse. It got to a point were it is completely stuck relooping the apple logo not even booting up to the lockscreen. Finally after the battery arrived I replaced the phones old battery. Surprisingly phone worked for a couple minutes but not for long. It went back stuck in a endless bootloop. I put the phone in Dfu mode and tried restoring it in two different computers. It gets past preparing the iphone and rebooting it to were it shows a progress bar on the phones screen. Unfortunately it gets stuck on the step were itunes says its verifying the ispw/update with itunes. The bar on the phone stays empty. Note Ive made sure to have the latest itunes installed. | Posted: 27 Jun 2018 10:45 PM PDT Hey guys, My computer is a Macbook Pro 13" 2017 w/ touchbar and I had it plugged in and I got up while sitting at a desk in the dark and tripped over a cable and I don't know what happened, but my Mac was on the floor and yeah. So I picked it up and I saw this https://imgur.com/a/YI6xrOK . The bezel is cracked, and there are two dents. I don't know if it's easy to see, but it's directly under the two cracks that you can see in the bezel. The dents are in the aluminum body and this causes the Mac to make a popping noise every time I open or close it. How would I go about solving this issue? It has been less than a year since I have bought this computer, so I still have the Apple Care warranty on it. Apple Customer Service was closed by the time I tried calling them, as this happened almost 3 hours ago and they had just closed then. If for some odd reason Apple's warranty does not cover accidents like this (which I don't see why they wouldn't, otherwise what's the point of the AppleCare warranty?), how would I go about replacing the dents? | How do I permanently delete an app from my account? Posted: 27 Jun 2018 06:24 PM PDT My banking app is giving me problems on my phone. I have an iPhone 7 and iPad. I decided to download the app to my iPad and the same issue was there. I thought surely this was on the bank's end then. I used my sister's iPhone, on a completely separate iTunes account, to install the banking app on her phone and when I logged in it was perfect. I guess whatever version is tied to my iCloud account is corrupted or a bad version. Is there anyway to completely nuke it? I did try to delete and reinstall my phone, but I see now that the same "bad" version even installs on my iPad. I don't backup either on my computer. I completely neglect my iPad these days so I have no idea how it transferred there. edit: I don't even think this app is "stored" on my iCloud account. | Screen recording audio stops when I click off of the app Posted: 27 Jun 2018 02:08 PM PDT I work for a company and I need to create a screen recording of a new feature that lets the user listen to audio on the app and also audio from another app at the same time (Spotify, YouTube etc.) However, even though this works on the phone, the screen recording audio doesn't show it, the audio just stops when I click off of the app. How come the recording isn't just a loopback from the phone speakers, do they use two separate sound devices for the speaker and recording? (Replacement phone from apple as old one had a battery issue) I keep getting the pop up "your iPhone storage is full, go to manage settings". I go to manage settings, and I says I have 14.7GB of 16GB used. But it still says "storage full". I can take pictures, update apps, or download apps, even though I clearly have space. My iCloud says I have 4GB left of phone storage. What the hell is going on? Loads of my apps don't work and I can't install the updates for them. I put my phone in recovery mode, plug it into my computer, go through the recovery process while my phone occasionally drops out of recovery mode only to have to do all of that again. | iMessages app has unread messages count but there are no unread messages in the app Posted: 27 Jun 2018 05:10 PM PDT On my iPad running iOS 11.4, the small red bubble on the iMessages app is currently stuck at saying 2 unread messages. I have tried restarting the device several times, and have even deleted all chats in the app, but the problem persists. Additionally, when I send a new message to the iPad as a test, it does not change the number of unread messages. Even if I send 5 texts, it will say I have 2 unread ones. With seemingly little explanation, people will try to call me and it goes straight to message without my phone ringing. I'll then get a notification that I have a message. Posted: 27 Jun 2018 04:23 PM PDT So I got a new phone yesterday due to my old one dying on me completely (kinda my fault, lol— don't neglect your phones!) and I want to log into my old iCloud account, primarily so I can have all my pictures. I'm stupid and didn't back them up anywhere. Anyway, I know my email and password, but each attempt at logging in sends a verification code to my old phone (and old number), which absolutely will not turn on, so I have no way of seeing what the code is. | How to re-partition a second hand Mac? Posted: 27 Jun 2018 01:52 PM PDT EDIT: I'm an absolute moron. The SSD was physically removed by the previous owners. The 'Windows' volume and other partitions must have just been the EFI/recovery volume. Thanks and sorry! I purchased a used MacBook Air (A1466) that was wiped by the seller. I created a USB install disk for High Sierra, and at the boot screen I can choose between that and a volume named 'Windows' that just goes to a black screen. 'diskutil list' shows 20 disks: the install usb, a 2 GB Apple_HFS OS X Base System, and the rest untitled volumes from 524.3 KB to 12.6 MB. I suspect that the SSD may have been encrypted at some point. I'm not interested in recovering any data; I'd just like to make a clean install and make sure I'm using the full drive. | Videos on iPad playing on airplay even though I don't have an Apple TV Posted: 27 Jun 2018 09:37 AM PDT Hi, so my iPad Air 2 is currently on iOS 11.0.2. Whenever I play a video from the photos app, it says it's playing on airplay. I can hear the audio, but I can't see the video. The thing is, I don't have an Apple TV or any other apple device here. How do I fix this? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Update: Forgetting and reconnecting to my home wifi networks did the trick! Also updated to 11.4. Thank you all so much for your help! | I wiped my iPod touch(3rd gen). Posted: 27 Jun 2018 12:26 PM PDT A couple of years ago, at a garage sale, I bought a third generation iPod touch. I forget about it until earlier today, and I realized it had over 4000 songs on it. Naturally, I wanted to take the songs off of the iPod. I plugged it in to iTunes(on a mac) and it told me to update it to ios 5.1.1. I wanted to see what would happen if I did this, but, not being stupid, I backed up the iPod first. I then updated the iPod. It wiped the iPod, which I half expected. So, I restored to backup. It restored some things, but no music! I've try'd using various softwares to recover but can't do it. I also can't figure out how to get the iPod to act as a pen drive, which would allow me to use normal recovery software. I'm running a late 2013 mac book pro with osx10.12 , and also can use a pc running windows 10, and a 2012 macbook pro running 10.9. Thanks a lot for your help, in advance. [link] [comments]  |
