Posted: 21 Jun 2018 07:57 PM PDT Was wondering if any one could help with this. I have a 13in. MacBook air and the tab, spacebar(I'm using the ascessible keyboard rn), fn, and caps lock do not work because I spilled some water on my keyboard. My computer also makes a "ding" sound sometimes. Is there any way I can fix the keys or do I need to get a new laptop or have this looked at by apple?(Also, posted to r/apple) [link] [comments] |
iPhone 7 won’t stay connected to my computer. Posted: 21 Jun 2018 03:17 PM PDT I have an iPhone 7 that won't stay connected when plugged into my computer. It will connect, disconnect, connect, disconnect, connect, disconnect. I've tried 3 different cables (all are apple cables), and it doesn't work with any of them. I have no issues plugging it into the wall, though, it's just the computer that it won't stay connected to. I've tried blowing out the port with canned air and that didn't help at all. ITunes Story TV show is corrupted Posted: 21 Jun 2018 10:16 PM PDT So when I try and watch downloaded shows on iTunes I get this nasty staticky, green barred screen (see image). I tried redownloading the shows, streaming them, and updating itunes but nothing has worked so far. I had to take a picture with my phone cause when I tried to screenshot the issue it came up as all black. Any tips? Image: https://imgur.com/a/DF8mYtd [link] [comments] |
2011 MacBook Pro Dead GPU Fix Stopped Working After Update Posted: 21 Jun 2018 10:03 PM PDT I have a 2011 15" MacBook Pro with a dead dGPU. I did the NVRAM fix described here and everything was working great. Stupidly, I ran the latest update to High Sierra thoughtlessly without taking the precaution of putting the AMD kext back into place first. I woke up a machine stuck on the grey screen. Tying to fix things, I retraced the steps in the guide but immediately saw something strange: even booting into safe mode, the screen is no longer black, not horizontally stripped blue. This is true even if I try to boot a USB stick. Behavior seems normal in single user mode other than the background color, but redoing all the steps, including making sure to move the new AMD kext isn't getting me to the desktop. I got the Apple (with some odd stripes), loading bar but then get stuck on the grey screen. Any help is appreciated. I really can't afford a new computer right now. 😞 [link] [comments] |
QuickTime keeps overriding my default video player settings. Posted: 21 Jun 2018 06:02 PM PDT macOS 10.13.5 VLC has always been set as my default player. Recently, something weird has been happening. When I download a new video file (any format; .mkv, .mp4, etc) something forces QuickTime Player to override the default player settings, and then the new video file and any other video files in my system will only open with QuickTime. I have repeatedly gone into video file > right click > open with > other > select VLC > select Always Open With and re-set VLC as the default player. When I open the video file, I get the "You are opening the application 'VLC' for the first time. Are you sure you want to open this application?" message. macOS acts like I just installed VLC. VLC remains my default player for a while, until I add a new video, and then this nonsense starts up all over again, and I have to reset VLC as my default player again. Has anyone experienced this? Is there a fix for this? [link] [comments] |
Can I move iPhone backup files to Google Drive? Posted: 21 Jun 2018 05:52 PM PDT My iPhone backup file takes up 50 GB on my Macbook and I have no more space. Could I just drag the folder into Google Drive or would that mess up the file in any way that would make it so that I can't restore from it anymore? [link] [comments] |
Purchased music on iTunes show duplicates in music app and library? Posted: 21 Jun 2018 05:50 PM PDT I've purchased a few albums on iTunes and downloaded them to my devices but they've been showing duplicates and even then have the cloud icon to redownload some more. I've noticed this with all the albums I've purchased in the past two months. I've been deleting and redownloading everything, how do I prevent this from happening again? thanks [link] [comments] |

Sending my iPhone 7 Plus in for repair - what to expect? Posted: 21 Jun 2018 09:19 PM PDT So I just got my certified refurbished iPhone from Amazon and it turns out the battery is at 86 wear and when running diagnostics, Apple Support informs me that the Bluetooth module is broken. I had forgotten to test Bluetooth and sure enough it didn't work. I somehow lucked out and this phone was covered under Applecare thanks to the previous owner until 2019. The chat agent set me up with a mail in repair - first to replace the battery and second to fix the module. How long should I expect the entire process to take (receiving the box, mailing in, repair, sent back)? Also another question - is it true that they just send a new refurbished phone back instead of repairing the one you send in? I've just never dealt with repair before. Thanks to everyone in advance :) [link] [comments] |
Wierd pink screen. It show up sometimes when I close/open my Macbook pro Posted: 21 Jun 2018 09:14 PM PDT |
Posted: 21 Jun 2018 11:17 AM PDT Currently I have my MacMini hooked up to my TV and I use my MacBookPro to screen share to control it when I want to watch TV and play with my MacMini simultaneously. Not been a problem. That said, I want to use my MacMini as a HTPC but sometimes be able to control it in the background. I know if I had 2 physical monitor hooked up into it I could have media playing in full screen on one monitor and control the mac from the other. What I want to do is have my TV be a monitor and Screen Share (or other such app) serve as a second monitor, so I can have full screen and control the computer simultaneously. Anyone know how to do this if it's even possible? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 21 Jun 2018 05:06 PM PDT So my new to me 2015 5k iMac arrived today, with a 2TB Fusion Drive, and when I checked the storage it said only 300GB was available... after messing around I was able to get 1.8TB available from Disk Utility, but I can't seem to get the rest of it back. Any suggestions on how to save the remaining 300GB? I believe that Windows/Boot Camp may have been installed in the past, because when I formatted the drive and restarted without going into recovery, I got a Windows blue screen... [link] [comments] |
"The operation can’t be completed because an unexpected error occurred (error code 0)." Posted: 21 Jun 2018 04:21 PM PDT I'm trying to copy a folder from my OneDrive to my Macbook, but I keep getting the error "The operation can't be completed because an unexpected error occurred (error code 0)." All the things I'm finding on Google have to do with copying to/from an external hard drive, so I can't seem to find a solution/reason for this. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 21 Jun 2018 04:17 PM PDT I dropped my 18 months old iPhone 7 and the screen seems to have died in the process. There's no visible damage whatsoever (the whole thing looks pristine) but it stays black no matter what I do. After forcefully shutting it down and restarting it the wake and home buttons will react to input and iTunes still recognizes it when I connect it to my PC but that's about it. It won't connect to WiFi for instance (does it need my code in order to do that?) or vibrate when connected to a power source. How exactly do I explain this to Apple? I was told by an Apple employee a while ago that they would only replace a screen if it had visible damage which I could easily provide by simply dropping it again... I'm aware that Apple would replace most of the front facing components in this case but what if a component on the logic board took a hit, too? Perhaps the parts connecting the screen to the board were ripped of... would Apple return the broken iPhone to me saying that replacing that component is not covered by the costs of a simple screen replacement? I'm not sure how to handle this to be honest. I'd rather simply pay for a replacement screen than invest in one of the current models. [link] [comments] |
USB 3.0 PCIe Expansion Card issues with Mac Pro 5,1 Posted: 21 Jun 2018 03:47 PM PDT I recently bought a 4 port USB 3.0 PCIe card from eBay: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/282701417245 I then bought a power cable and filed off the plastic (as seen in the pics) so I could power it from HD4. It all fits perfectly, it is recognised on System Report, however... as soon as I transfer anything over a MB to an external plugged in, the Mac crashes and restarts. I am guessing this is something to do with power? Any ideas please? (Mac Pro 5,1 2010 3.33ghz 6 core, 24gb RAM, NVIDIA Quadro 4000 2048 MB) Photos: https://imgur.com/a/FERqeWP [link] [comments] |
Posted: 21 Jun 2018 11:58 AM PDT So I work for a school district and I update hundreds to thousands of ipads, usually 30-40 at a time when we need to. Most of the time I use Apple Configurator with one of those carts that can do 30-40 at a time. However, its super annoying that after I plug in all of them, I have to go through each and every one of them to press "trust this computer" every time I want to update a new batch of iPads. Any way I can get rid of this? [link] [comments] |
MacBook Air 13" Wont Turn On (Again) After Water Spill Repair Posted: 21 Jun 2018 02:06 PM PDT Hi everyone. I hope you can give me some insight with my problem. I have searched the web for hours, but I guess my problem is slightly different. I have spilled some coffee on my Macbook Air and it stopped working. I have sent it for repair and it was working just fine afterwards (no keyboard damage, no components were replaced). I have used it for 2-3 days without a problem and I never shut it down, put in sleep mode when I was not using it. Yesterday I turned it off instead of putting in sleep mode. And now it won't turn on at all. When push press power button, led on MagSafe goes green for a second, then turns orange. I have tried SMC reset, holding down the power button for 10 seconds but nothing has helped so far. I am guessing the repair guy did not do his job properly. Does anyone have an idea before I will be able to send it for repair again? It is frustrating because it was working perfectly before I turned it off. It's a 13" Macbook Air, early 2017. Thank you for taking the time to read this post. [link] [comments] |
iPhone photo app crashing when opened Posted: 21 Jun 2018 01:56 PM PDT Hi everyone. I have an iPhone 7, it's completely updated to the newest software. When I open my camera roll, I can scroll up for a moment, to pictures from about two days ago, and then the app crashes. I've tried restarting the phone and app, and deleting pictures, but nothing seems to be changing, it just crashes in the same place every time. What can I do to fix this? I didn't save any pictures from online, it crashes at pictures that I'd taken at my brother's graduation ceremony. It just started this yesterday, and hasn't been a problem before. Black border around second monitor -- works fine with a different monitor Posted: 21 Jun 2018 11:11 AM PDT https://imgur.com/a/9q7Mic5 I have it set to Scaled 1080p but the resolution looks horrible and I have this weird border. EDIT: It works if I make it come out of the display port (or thunderbolt, whatever.) I'd still like to know why this happens though. [link] [comments] |
Macbook keyboard completely unresponsive Posted: 21 Jun 2018 01:14 PM PDT Hey, so my Macbook keyboard suddenly stopped working completely (including CAPS lock), only the power key works. I have a 2015 Macbook, High Sierra. Tried several reboots, and an SMC and a PRAM reset, but I think it did nothing since my keyboard doesn't work. I tried booting it up with the Recovery OS, but the keyboard doesn't work there either. The trackpad works fine in any OS. I'm stuck on the login screen right now and I don't have a non-password protected account, so not sure what to do. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 21 Jun 2018 12:26 PM PDT I recently acquired a 2011 Macbook Pro (I7, 8gb ram, HDD). I picked up an SSD to upgrade it, and I figured that I might as well go all the way and upgrade the RAM while I am at it to a full 16 gb. I'm very new to the mac world (mainly picked this up for iOS development and playing in a new system space) so I'm not as familiar with parts purchasing. I know that Crucial is a good company to get a kit from, but it was a little pricier than I was hoping it to be. A quick search on amazon shows of course a plethora of options. What are the do's and don't's of macbook ram buying? Are there specific specs to look out for/avoid, or make sure it has? As always the motto of "you get what you pay for" comes into play but I don't want to pay a premium for what amounts of a glorified dev box. Similarly, is it worth it going from 8 go 16 if I'm mainly going to be fiddling around in XCODE? Thanks! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 21 Jun 2018 12:02 PM PDT I'm not super tech savvy so is there a cheap and easy(easyish) way for me to 1) save all the contents on the mac and 2) get it running and working again? Or is this just a pointless endeavor? Any help is much appreciated! Thanks! [link] [comments] |
2015 Macbook Pro Screen Problem Posted: 21 Jun 2018 12:41 PM PDT I have had my Macbook Pro for 3 years. About 6 months ago, my screen started becoming tinted green. It got worse over several weeks, then went away completely and was fine. However, about a month ago, the problem came back, more severe, and now it is almost entirely unusable. The screen is tinted green, has vertical colored lines running down it, and the lower fourth of the screen is constantly flashing and unusable. Any ideas on what the problem is/how much it would cost to fix? Thanks! [link] [comments] |
Why is the right side of my Macbook Air screen is displaying 3 vertical bars? Posted: 21 Jun 2018 10:46 AM PDT I replaced the screen on my macbook air last night. Everything seemed to be fine, but upon waking up today, the right side of the screen is not displaying correctly. I just wanted to know if this may be due to something like a loose screen connector or something simple like that or is this simply a faulty led screen. I just wanted some input before I talk to the screen seller. I wasn't allowed to post a photo as this is my first post on this subbreddit, but this image is basically what my screen looks like now, except the vertical bars on my screen go from white, to grey, to black (left to right). Any input on this is greatly appreciated [link] [comments] |
