iOS 11.4.1 Public Beta Profile Posted: 25 Jun 2018 07:35 PM PDT I just had my phone replaced and need 11.4.1 installed to restore my backup. Is there any way to access the 11.4 public beta profile? Now that 12 is out, that's all that's showing on the apple portal and I'm not ready to upgrade to the iOS 12 public beta. Or is there an 11.4.1 .ipsw available? [link] [comments] |
Not sure if this is possible - Apple ID Change Posted: 25 Jun 2018 07:24 PM PDT So...I currently have a an AppleID that is an @gmail address and it is tied to all my iTunes purchases, etc. I also have an @me.com address AppleID...I am wondering if it is possible to:
I know this is a lot to inquire about, but if you never ask - you never know. [link] [comments] |
Can't write to a file server from Mac, can from Linux. Posted: 25 Jun 2018 07:35 PM PDT So this is a weird one. I have Samba file share from my Linux desktop that I should have read and write access to. For some reason, I can't write to it from my Mac (macOS 10.12.6). I can write to it from another laptop running Linux. I'm logging in with the same credentials from both the Mac and Linux laptop so it's probably not a server-side permissions issue. Any ideas on what I could do? [link] [comments] |
Anyone know whether Apple still carries Series 0 Watches for warranty? Posted: 25 Jun 2018 01:16 PM PDT I'm just a bit curious, I have AppleCare+ on my original Apple Watch for a few more months, and it's got some physical damage. Just a crack on the corner of the screen, nothing I can't live with. I'm wondering whether they'll replace it with an identical unit or if the repair might entail an incidental upgrade to a Series 1. Does anyone know whether they are still stocking S0 for repairs or if they are replacing them with S1 units? My thought is that maybe I should wait until the last days of the warranty to see if I could score an S1 as a replacement instead of going right away, or if I should just go now. [link] [comments] |
40 GB of System Storage on iPhone 6S? Posted: 25 Jun 2018 07:11 PM PDT Firstly, I'm on an iPhone 6S 64 GB running iOS 11.4. Recently I've realised that I've been unable to backup certain apps and occasionally get a message to the gist of "you need more storage space". However, I usually take care not to use too much space on my iPhone. After a browse through the iPhone Storage section, which clearly couldn't add up to the 55 GB displayed at the top, I notice System Storage at the bottom. 40.86 GB. A few blog posts and checks through Mac & iPhone related sites can't seem to give a helpful answer. Anyone had this problem and was able to fix it? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 25 Jun 2018 06:57 PM PDT I have an iPhone 8 that is six months old. I also now live in a small village in Mexico. For the last six months I have had problems. The most frustrating one is not being able to sync my videos and photos from my last iPhone to my PC to my new iPhone. There are other little annoying things like a repeat message that iMessage may carry I charge that shows up intermittently that I have gone though everything online and still have. After I got all my old iPhone photos and videos off my last phone onto my PC, I ask about the video and photo problem of them not loading on my new phone right here and got one reply which solved a bit of the problem but still has my video syncing with no audio and not all the picture syncing even though there is plenty of room on the phone (new with no music and few apps.) I also have googled my little fingers off only to get the basic how tos of syncing. I have clicked all the boxes: Apple cable, uninstall/reinstall iTunes, delete cache, tried different USB ports, turn everything on and off (courtesy of The IT Crowd,) tried doing it though iCloud but at .52 mbps gave up after two days.... If I still lived in Houston I would run the phone into the Apple store and ask for help. I bought the phone in Mexico. The customer service number puts me though to a Spanish menu and I speak zero Spanish. Frustrated! [link] [comments] |

Can you change the layout/apperance of iMovie? Posted: 25 Jun 2018 10:03 PM PDT I'm wondering if there is a way to change the layout of iMovie 10.1.6 to the layout of iMovie 10.0 (or to another version of iMovie that has a similar layout to iMovie 10.0)? and if so how to do it? [link] [comments] |
Early 2009 iMac updating OS question. Posted: 25 Jun 2018 09:54 PM PDT I'm running 10.9.5 and downloaded el capitan 10.11.6 It appears I'm missing a step or doing something wrong. It doesn't seem that this is difficult but, I'm not tech savy, I'm trying to learn. Any direction or help appreciated.. [link] [comments] |
Semi-regular freezes with jumbo cursor Posted: 25 Jun 2018 09:42 PM PDT Hi all! I teach at a school with 100+ teacher MacBooks. Mine is the only one with this particular issue so I thought I'd ask here for help. Sometimes, the cursor will freeze and the MacBook will become unresponsive. Sometimes the cursor will become large - like it does when you 'wiggle' it - despite not being wiggled, and then be movable but not interact with anything. Then the cursor will freeze too and I'll have to manually reset my MacBook. Sometimes, this happens on wake - I'll open my MacBook and have a jumbo cursor, or be able to move my cursor but not click on the field to enter my password (or switch user or anything else on the login screen). This initially happened on a 2011 MacBook Pro. I (reasonably) thought it may have been a hardware issue and so have since acquired a replacement machine, a 2017 MacBook Air (with the highest Air specs). I'm running High Sierra on both machines. The only software common to both machines that is unique amongst the 100+ staff machines is Dashlane, my password manager. I really hope it's not a Dashlane issue as it has been thoroughly integrated into my life over the last year and plays nicely with my iPhone, Apple Watch and iPad as well as the school laptop. Any thoughts or theories? [link] [comments] |

iPhone 6: audio calls complete static / noise / clicking Posted: 25 Jun 2018 09:06 PM PDT Hi! I have an iPhone 6 on AT&T. Phone has been totally fine until tonight: I made a phone call and everything was static - on both ends of the call. Thinking I had a bad connection, I hung up and recalled, only to have the static get worse. I am now unable to use the phone, due to the static. The noise happens on ALL calls, on all types of audio - speaker, earbuds, regular earpiece. Throughout the evening, the noise has gotten worse (have been trouble shooting and so I have been making test calls). Each test call gets progressively worse - I could sort of hear the other end, then it became complete static, now it's clicking. I don't believe it's a hardware issue, for two reasons:
Things I have tried so far that have not worked:
Really appreciate any help - thanks in advance! [link] [comments] |
iPad Air with charging problems. Posted: 25 Jun 2018 08:54 PM PDT I have an iPad Air (model A1475) that is having trouble charging. When I plug in the cord, it will chime that it is starting to charge, and then a second later, the charging is interrupted and it chimes again. And a second later, again, and so on. Currently running iOS 11.3.1 (15E302). [link] [comments] |
Disk Utility Refusing to Resize volume to maximum capacity... Posted: 25 Jun 2018 08:14 PM PDT I have a 500HDD installed in my Mac. However, I cannot get the volume to extend greater than 200GB. Somehow my recovery partition is 299GB in size. I do not believe I need this much space in my "recovery" partition. I take daily Time Machine Backups to an external drive so I'm not too concerned with data loss. Any idea's how to fix this? Below are screenshots of all the stages of my attempts and the resulting errors. My Mac's Current Configuration Any suggestions or tips would be appreciated! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 25 Jun 2018 08:40 AM PDT I purchased an iPhone 5s as a backup phone a while back. It's been sitting with a flat battery for a while. I recently broke my phone and I've been having trouble getting the 5s to turn on again. I've verified that both the cable and power brick work. The phone has been plugged in for 30 minutes at this point and neither the phone or power brick are warm. I've tried holding the power + home button for over a minute and the phone still hasn't shown any signs of life. The phone worked the last time I used it (about 6 months ago) [link] [comments] |
Updating Pages 4.3 to 7.1. Any issues with losing documents/formatting? Posted: 25 Jun 2018 06:33 PM PDT I am running Pages '09 (4.3) on my MBP (10.13.1). Yeah I'm one of those who sits out updates. Anyways, I'm working on a certification that requires me to write a ton of lesson plans. This version of Pages is working fine. However, I driver for Uber and would like to be able to work on this while I'm mobile. I decided to use Pages on my iPad and share the docs between devices via iCloud. My iPad is running 10.1.1 (Pages v3.2). I moved a document to the iCloud folder on my Mac for testing purposes, successfully opened it on the iPad. When I tried to reopen it on my Mac, I was told I cannot do this and an update is required. This would be an update to Pages 7.1. I would expect, after updating, all my files will still be there and I'll be able to move forward. However I know it never tends to work that way. So before I do this, is there anything I need to know about this migration such as losing documents/formatting? Note: No formatting was lost on the doc I transferred to iCloud and opened on the iPad. I just couldn't reopen it on my Mac. I have everything backed up to my external hard drive, but, even if I do successfully update the Mac and lose the documents, I'm assuming I won't be able to open 4.3 files on 7.1? Do I need to upgrade the OS on my Mac? [link] [comments] |
Macbook Air (A1369) OS Install Issues Posted: 25 Jun 2018 10:53 AM PDT Background Info ( Skip this paragraph for actual question) I have finally decided to ask for assistance. This issue has been giving me trouble and a lot of stress for the past bit of time. I consider myself to be pretty knowledgable in regards to electronics and computer repair, am going to school for Computer Securite/Network Engineering, but my knowledge consists of mostly Windows support, a bit of android and liux knowledge and very little Apple/Mac info except for a few small tasks that I have done for other people, as I am the go to "tech repair person" for most of my family/friends. So as many people here probably experience, dealing with an issue that has me stumped (especially one that may have a very simple solution, since I am unfamiliar with many Apple support aspects) is very frusterating, which is why I am hoping someone can provide some assistance. Here is the issue. A friend of mine purchased this laptop online from a buy and sell site. After using it for a while, he decided to sell it. Another friend was interested in it, so I was asked to update the OS/ wipe the laptop. This was pretty easy and I completed the task, and my other friend bought the laptop. After using it for around a year, he decided to give the laptop to another family member of his, who would use it for school. He asked if I could do what I had done previously, wipe and update the OS. Since I was busy with school exams at the time, his family member decided to attempt this task before I was available. Upon recieving the laptop, and turning it on, it booted to a folder with a question mark Like This. It appeared as if the hard drive was wiped. I attempted to boot into recovery mode (The OS is Lion). The only issue was that it asked for a username and password. After learning that a new account couldn't be used, I called my friend and got the user/pass. Once I entered the info, it gave me the following error "This item is temporarily unavailable. Please try again later" After some troubleshooting, I read that sometimes the hard drive needed several reformats, which I did. Still got same error. The next option was making a bootable USB to install the OS. After trying several different USB sticks/ OS DMG/ISO files, they all resulted in the screen showing some wide horizontal lines and displaying the Kernel Panic error upon booting from the usb. I burnt an install DVD and used a usb external DVD player to try and install the OS that way, which also resulted in kernel panic. I am not sure what to try next. The hard drive appears to be good (as it says Verified in the Disk Utility. It can boot to the recovery screen where it allows me into disk utility, the recovery screen until the Temporary unavailable message displays. Any help/ suggestions would be appreciated. I am hoping there is an easy solution I was not aware of, but am aware of the realm of possibilities from past experince of breaking the bad news to others. If you require any more info please let me know. I was also wondering how the OS system works in terms of which version I can install on this machine. I know it says High Sierra can run on it, but can I go straight from Lion to it, or do I have to go to another version first (I told you my mac knowledge was limited :) ) Thanks. [link] [comments] |
Accidentally changed my apple store location Posted: 25 Jun 2018 10:29 AM PDT I'm travelling abroad and I accidentally clicked a stupid link that somehow changed my App Store location. I'm now unable to change my location back to what it was because apparently I have to cancel all my subscriptions. I have quite a few and am very annoyed. I'm also unable to listen to my Apple Music anymore. Is there any way I can change back my country without having to cancel and repurchase all of my subscriptions. Because if I cancel my Apple Music all of my music will be gone, etc. For reference my normal location is cañada and my region got changed to Argentina, where I currently am for a month longer. Posted: 25 Jun 2018 07:06 AM PDT I keep pressing the ESC or back button on the touchbar while i'm typing, whatever button on the left of the touchbar i keep pressing it by accident. I know this is probably just me and and my unusual way of using the keyboard but i've trying for months to adapt and i simple can't, 20+ years of typing this way won't go easy. Is there any way of moving the buttons on the touchbar to the center/right of it? I'm about to sell the macbook to get an older one withouth a touchbar, is so annoying.. [link] [comments] |
HomePod worth it if the only Apple product I own is a MacBook? (x-post from /r/HomePod) Posted: 25 Jun 2018 05:07 PM PDT Hiya A bunch of my friends own HomePods and I'm so impressed by the sound quality and the design. What's stopping me from getting one is that I do not own an iPhone/iPod/iPad, and although I would be totally content using the HomePod primarily via AirPlay on my MacBook, I'm worried that not owning an iPhone will ultimately bite me in the ass. Is having an iPhone only necessary during the setup? Can I use a friend's phone to set-up my HomePod and have it connect to WiFi and then just use AirPlay from my MacBook moving forward? Thanks a ton [link] [comments] |
iPhone X haptics for no reason? Posted: 25 Jun 2018 11:05 AM PDT Hi! I recently had my iPhone X replaced due to a hardware fault. Since received the new handset I've noticed the haptics go off for seemingly no reason at all. It's not a normal notification vibration, it's the 3 haptic vibrations that go off when face ID is incorrectly scanned. My email notifications are off and I don't seem to be getting any other notifications through, any advice? Thanks! [link] [comments] |
Im getting desperate, who do I believe, Apple or Verizon. Posted: 25 Jun 2018 04:42 PM PDT I recently sent my iPhone 8 into Apple to have them repair/replace the phone. The "repair" or replacement came with a letter that stated the phone was associated with a new serial number, I talked over the phone with Apple and Verizon for at least 4 hours total trying to unlock/activate the phone. I went to Verizon to unlock the phone because when I inserted a sim I received a "Sim not supported" message. I was told by Verizon that all of their phones are unlocked, then I was told to go back to Apple and have them unlock it or give me a new replacement. I am in an infinite loop of being told to go back and fourth by two corporations trying to screw me. I need help, will Apple even "unlock" the phone, it was replaced by them, not Verizon, or will I be told by Apple that they don't unlock phones. I'm so tired of this BS. [link] [comments] |
External Disk Encryption - Portability Posted: 25 Jun 2018 04:39 PM PDT I've googled but can't seem to come to a definite conclusion. All I seem to come up with are answers specific to filevault and the boot drive. If I encrypt an external hard disk using the "Encrypt Drive" option in MacOS - can it be decrypted by another computer (running MacOS)? or is the encryption tied to the OS/computer that encrypted the drive? Sorry, if this seems obvious - but I've run into issues with PC's where encrypted drives were tied to the computer itself. Which when the motherboard died meant i was left with no backup (wtf is the point of that eh??) [link] [comments] |
Any way to create an inventory of an external hard drive? Posted: 25 Jun 2018 10:36 AM PDT I have a home NAS, and just had a close call with data loss following a power outage. Obviously losing your data is terrible, but so is not knowing what data you lost. Is there an easy way to create (and maintain) an inventory of the contents of an external (or network connected) drive? [link] [comments] |
Keyboard and touchpad not responsive after waking up from sleep Posted: 25 Jun 2018 04:30 PM PDT Hi all, I'm having an issue with my Macbook Pro where the keyboard and touchpad are unresponsive after waking up from sleep. After a few seconds a window saying there are no keyboards detected pops up. This is occurring almost every time I wake it up from sleep. This has been going on for a few months occasionally up until recently where it happens more times than not. I have been running the same version OS for a while now and have not done any major software upgrades that (IMO) could have created this problem. Resetting PRAM sometimes works but it's quite frustrating having to do this almost every time I want to use my MBP. I'd like to know if there is any software fix or if this is a hardware problem. Any help is appreciated. Specs:
Thanks in advance. [link] [comments] |
