| Apple ID cannot be used to restore this device. Posted: 02 Jun 2018 07:36 PM PDT Hello, my wife received a used iPad from my mother-in-law, and is having me set it up. MIL cleared it via General-Reset-Erase All Contents and Settings. So we received it in setup mode like a new iPad. It crashed on us during setup at the "Sign into apple ID" step, and got stuck in a setup loop there. I connected it to a computer, put it in restore mode, and restored/updated it hoping that would break the loop. Now, it has an activation lock with the first letter of my wife's appleID, but when entered (both on computer and iPad) I get an "incorrect Apple ID" error that won't let me break the activation lock. I'm 100% sure it's the correct apple ID however. What can I do to get past this? Or is the iPad bricked? Since it was used, several year old hand-me-down we don't have a receipt for apple support. | Get old "swipe up" back on iPad? Posted: 02 Jun 2018 04:37 PM PDT Is this possible? I want the control center the iPhone has in this image not the iPad. I'd also like to avoid the app bar on swiping up. It's pretty annoying for example watching netflix. Being forced into the image shown in on the iPad is annoying when Netflix is interrupted to change the brightness. I booted back into Mac but want to delete the remaining part of windows. Anyone know how I can do this? | How can I best maintain my MBP's battery? Posted: 02 Jun 2018 09:20 PM PDT My mid-2015 15" MBP developed a wobble a few weeks ago. I thought it was the case snaps or the screws, but sadly, it was the battery starting to swell. An AppleCare repair later and I'm back in business. I typically use my 15" MBP as a replacement desktop. It spends most of its life in clamshell mode. I'd had the machine for ~two years and it was at 21 cycles before the battery replacement. Apple has had conflicting messages on its batteries page over the years. Some say it's perfectly fine to keep the Mac plugged in, in clamshell mode. Others say to discharge once a month. Some say only discharge to 20-50%. I can't find any consistency and I honestly can't tell whether my battery swelling was "just a fluke" or not. Yes, I know that Li-ion batteries all degrade over time. The compromise I'm currently using is periodically undocking the laptop and using it as a laptop. Is this the Best Practice to avoid a battery swelling repeat? P.S. I have to wonder if keeping the Mac tightly within a vertical hengedock contributed to the swelling. He just recently replaced it. Will he receive any of the texts that I sent him during the time that he had no phone? He kept the same carrier/ phone number. | Logic board issue - repair or replace MacBook? Posted: 02 Jun 2018 03:49 PM PDT My MacBook Pro (2013) developed an issue where it constantly thinks the power button is being pressed, even though there is no damage whatsoever to the keyboard itself. By continuously pressing any other button on the keyboard, this bypasses the power off signal and keeps the laptop on, but the moment you stop the computer shuts off and powers back on again. I've been told that this is due to a logic board issue. Has anyone come across a similar problem? Is it reasonable to repair the logic board or will the costs run high enough to justify getting a new MacBook altogether? Thanks! [link] [comments]  |
| I'm trying to fix an iMac A1311 Posted: 02 Jun 2018 11:58 AM PDT When it boots up, you hear the chime, then it stuck loading on an apple logo. I plugged a keyboard into it but it doesn't seem to work, the num key doesn't light up, and command + R doesn't seem to work. I tried the wireless apple keyboard it came with, and command + R doesn't work for that either. I don't know what OS was on it as it was a friends. | iPhone sim activation after reset Posted: 02 Jun 2018 03:29 PM PDT I had problem with my phone saying NO SIM on my iPhone 4S which I currently use as an ipod (and occasional phone for travelling). Before taking it to apple store for diagnosis, I contacted the support line who advised I backup my phone and reset it, so i did. This did not fix the phone and now I at least want to use my phone as an iPod since this is clearly a sim reader issue. However my phone cannot be activated since the phone is not reading the sim card, please advise if there is any way to activate back to use it as iPod again. If apple would have told me from the outset that this was a possibility, I would have never reset my phone. [link] [comments]  |
| 2012 Mac Pro - High Sierra - Stuck on white screen - tried everything Google said! Posted: 02 Jun 2018 07:06 PM PDT I was gaming and editing photos and all of a sudden my computer locked up and said I had a problem and needed to reboot. So, I did that and it got stuck on the white loading screen. I have tried resetting the PRAM, Nothing. Tried to boot in safe mode, wouldn't load. Held option, tried recovery disk. Nope. Made a Sierra boot disk, (though I think I was on High Sierra, don't know if that matters). Didn't work. Tried the MSDOS looking thing and it Modified the disk using FSK something and then said was ok on a second run. ultimately would not boot. Pulled out the Hard Drive replaced it with another hard drive (I pulled one out of a Drobo, didn't format it, don't know if that matters.) If anyone has any ideas, I am drawing a blank! EDIT: Just did Verbose mode and the last line reads IOConsoleUsers: gIOScreenLockState 3, hs, 0, bs 0 , now 0, sm0x0 EDIT 2: I have a GeForce GTX 680 installed. Everything I am reading about Hackintoshs makes me think it's relevant to the video card. [link] [comments]  |

| Messages disappeared after turning on iMessage/iCloud Posted: 02 Jun 2018 11:46 AM PDT I turned on the new Messages in iCloud feature after updating to 11.4 a few days ago. Have had my phone plugged in very long periods of time, but it has said "downloading imessages from icloud" for about 4 days now. It occasionally says 'uploading' instead of downloading. edit: and the progress bar hasn't moved or shown any sign of progress the entire time. According to my iCloudstorages messages is taking up 5.2gb, however when I click to see the conversations list it says 0kb of messages are stored. Whole message threads have also disappeared from my phone. And sometimes when I try to send a text it just disappears off the phone and never sends. Anyone know what the hell is going on? I've tried rebooting my phone. I'm afraid of turning off the messages in iCloud setting in case it just never brings my messages back. What a messy feature release :( Edit: I've just checked my MacBook and have noticed that my phone is actually not receiving some messages from people. | Trying to use Boot Camp on High Sierra 10.13.4 Posted: 02 Jun 2018 09:55 AM PDT Hey there...I need to have a working copy of Windows 10, and I'm trying to use Boot Camp on my Mac to do so. I have the ISO of Windows 10 downloaded to my desktop from Microsoft's site and was under the impression you can tell Boot Camp to use the ISO there on the desk top instead of using a USB drive but when I go to get started it automatically asks where the USB is. Is this just how High Sierra is, you must use a USB? Or am I missing something? I included a picture of the first screen I'm seeing in Boot Camp, because it's different than the screen I feel like I should be seeing, according the walk through I was going to use to do this. | Need help eliminating a virus on my Macbook Posted: 02 Jun 2018 04:57 PM PDT I have a 2015 Macbook Pro w/ retina display and I am running OS X Yosemite Version 10.10.5. For about a year now I have had this virus on my mac that I have not been able to fix. It isn't the worst thing in the world, so I've coped with it, but it's time I get rid of it. Every time I use the internet, there is about a 75% chance my safari will crash within 5 minutes with a popup telling me that my "browser is up to date" and to "click ok to continue". I will link a picture of the popup. It will kick me off the internet and it will usually wait a minute or two for the internet to load back up and I proceed on as normal. | MacBook Pro vs. 12 inch MacBook? Posted: 02 Jun 2018 04:43 PM PDT So I'm going to make the jump from a Windows computer to a Mac. I've narrowed it down to the MacBook Pro and the 12-inch MacBook. Use cases are the standard, Chrome and Microsoft Office (might switch to Apple's Office equivalent), with the occasional virtual machine and testing new software semi-often. So with that, I'm more looking at which one would be ideal for a road warrior. Battery life is a non issue as ANYTHING would be better than my current laptop. I use OneDrive for my important school stuff so SSD space honestly isn't THAT important, so the one port on the MacBook isn't a dealbreaker, and I can live with the dongle lifestyle. Once there I select 'Macintosh HD' and erase - but under the Format drop down menu where everyone says to select Mac OS Extended (Journaled) I only have four different options
I took a photo for reference. Any ideas? She's not selling the laptop but wants to reset it to factory settings and then selectively re-populate it with files and applications off her external backup. Thanks! [link] [comments]  |
