Two HomePods in stereo: another level of listening music Posted: 22 Jun 2018 02:57 PM PDT Last Wednesday I went to France only for the purpose of buying three HomePods, two for me and another for a friend. Apart from the weight of these little babies which they are heavy as hell, I'm astonished with the sound. Oh man, for me it's a new level of listening music. Since 2005 I've been using a 5.1 home cinema from Denon which was a mid-high range model for everything, music, games, movies, etc... To listen music I used to setup it as a 5 channel stereo which use all the 5 speakers to play music, I believe that is the three ones in the front in stereo and the back ones mirrored in stereo as well. They sound pretty cool with nice spacious sound, great bass and plenty of power. That was I thought, until yesterday. I put the two HomePod separated each other with like two and something meters between them. First of all I setup only the right one, not in stereo. At first, I have to confess that I was not impressed at all, in fact, I was a little bit disappointed. I listened a HomePod early this year so I know how was the sound, and they sound great, but I'm definitely used to more spacious and power sound due to my home cinema. Keep in mind that in my living room the music comes from the front and the back. So I setup them in stereo and pressed play and damn, they sound amazing. It's not like you have two HomePod and everything is doubled, like more power or more bass, no, you have to listen it. The sound is much more surrounding and clearer. The funny thing is that I feel more surrounding with the HomePods in stereo than my home cinema in 5 channel stereo. And of course muuuuch clear sound. Instruments are clearly separated from each other, voices are crisp and the bass is not exaggerated. I feel it very well tuned. Now I know that I was listening to music that sounded loudly and with too much bass but not clear. Another thing that impressed me is that you can be whenever you want in the room that sounds great, no sweet spot. On top of that you have a smart speaker, yes, Siri is not very smart but I use Siri to control HomeKit devices and play music so it's fine to me. The understanding of "Hey Siri" is almost black magic, I can say it even not hearing myself and these guys can understand me. Awesome. Finally I can use Hey Siri without being infuriated because they don't understand me in the first place. They perform actions quickly, even quicker than my iPhone X. And when you do some actions they don't even talk, for example, rising the volume is almost instantaneous. I'm very happy with them, love it. P.D: sorry if I made some mistakes or I sound strange, English is not my native language. [link] [comments] |

TIL Apple still sells photo prints from the Photos app. Posted: 22 Jun 2018 05:11 AM PDT I have an old low resolution photo of my grandparents. It's maybe 2x2" at best. I ordered a few same size photos, and some that were 4x4". They even said that some sizes wouldn't work as it would distort the image. Paid $5 ($1 for 6 prints plus $4 shipping). I can't wait to see how they turn out. Edit: I'm sorry, I made this while away from my Mac. It was in one of the menus "Get Prints". You can probably go to Help, then do a search for that. I have never seen so many issues with bad hardware than with these 2017 Macbook Pro models. Posted: 22 Jun 2018 09:45 AM PDT I work IT for a large telecom and we've been getting so many cases of bad keyboards and bad logic boards on the 2017 Macbook Pro models. Never seen hardware from Apple fail in numbers like this since the 2010-2011 AMD GPU debacle. I have to say I wouldn't recommend anyone getting the newer models of Macbook Pro. Anyone else experiencing this? [link] [comments] |

So glad Apple added waist circumference to the health app Posted: 22 Jun 2018 01:21 PM PDT I do strength training, so weight isn't always a good measure of whether I'm losing fat. For instance, started working out again a few weeks ago. My weight has stayed basically the same. Lost one pound. But, I've also been tracking my waist corcumference. There, I can see a clear downward trend in the health app. So, I am losing fat, but also gaining muscle. Weight plus waist has provided a much better measure, and I love being able to see both easily in the health app. In case anyone wants to do this, it becomes much easier with the workflow app. I set up a simple workflow that asks for weight, writes it to the health app, then asks for circumference and also writes it. I use a $2 tailor's tape from amazon to measure. The share feature in workflow doesn't seem to be working, but happy to add more details about it if anyone needs them. [link] [comments] |

Are there any leaks on AirPods 2? Posted: 22 Jun 2018 02:37 PM PDT I'm really missing leaks and information about a possible second AirPods generation. I saw a lot of "leaks" previous year, but the AirPods never came. Are there any leaks about a new version of the AirPods? Maybe September this year? [link] [comments] |

Switching from iPhone 7 to iPhone SE Posted: 23 Jun 2018 12:30 AM PDT Hey all, I had the iPhone 7 for a few months now, and I realized something... My hands REALLY aren't made for big phones. So I took a look at the iPhone SE and thought maybe getting that 4" beauty would be with it despite the noticeable downgrades such as Touch ID, the processing chip and the front cam. And looking at the recent rumors, it doesn't look like there will be a refreshed iPhone SE coming out in September. So I wanna ask about your experience and opinion, is it much of a downgrade when it comes to actually using the phone? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 23 Jun 2018 12:09 AM PDT I'm sure due to my own negligence maybe a little on someone's dishonesty. Managed to keep it safe for about 8 months, regaudless that's not what this is really about. I guess I always understood that there really is no security tied to the pencil, just never thought about how devastating it would be. Being a tattoo artist and my iPad and pencil being probably my most used tool from mock ups to designing flash and scheduling.. I feel almost lost. Just saying I fully believe the pencil completes the iPad Pro experience and I hope they implement some kind of security or tile like "find my pencil" features lol. Just wanted to vent somewhere very upset with myself. [link] [comments] |
What compatible apps do you guys use that interact with the health app? Posted: 22 Jun 2018 07:06 PM PDT |
Posted: 22 Jun 2018 08:10 AM PDT The shitkickers at YouTube are busy making life difficult for iPad owners who don't want the horrible YouTube app installed, having recently (2-3 months ago) disabled embedded videos from playing in fullscreen for no good reason. (Tested in iOS 12 beta) Head to settings > safari > advanced > experimental WebKit features > Fullscreen API on. Enjoy native video player with fullscreen, PIP, all working. No more of this bullshit "your browser doesn't support full screen" nonsense. [link] [comments] |
Apple should take into account the time Siri finishes recording when setting timers Posted: 23 Jun 2018 12:49 AM PDT For example, say you have slow internet and Siri takes 10-15s to reply, the timer is now going for 10-15s longer than you expect. I think Siri should look at when you finished speaking and save that time for when it starts the timer. Is this dumb or do you agree? [link] [comments] |
What's the highest download speed you've gotten with an iPhone? Posted: 22 Jun 2018 06:59 AM PDT What's the high download speed (Mbps) you guys have achieved on a speed test? The best I've been able to achieve is 515 Mbps down using the Speedtest app by Ookla on an iPhone 8 64GB. My Speedtest: http://www.speedtest.net/my-result/i/2694794434 [link] [comments] |
