Sonos Airplay 2 Conundrum ... would an Apple TV work? Posted: 30 May 2018 04:53 AM PDT This may seem like a heavy handed workaround, but I've got a number of Sonos Connects hooked up to Airport Expresses today allowing me to use Airplay. These aren't supported with Airplay 2 ... I've already invested a good amount into the Sonos Connects ... do you guys think Apple TVs would work to make the Connects Airplay 2 compatible? I know I'd need an HDMI converter for the audio jack ... and guessing I'd actually need to hook it up to a TV to set it up initially, but wondering if Apple TVs (that wouldn't actually be hooked up to TVs) would work to Airplay 2 enable my Sonos Connects. May be a ridiculous idea, but wanted to check with the group to see if it (or any other solution) might have legs. Thanks [link] [comments] |
Netflix with tvOS 11.4 frame rate issue Posted: 30 May 2018 05:13 AM PDT Last night after updating to tvOS 11.4 I noticed frame rate issues with Netflix. I have the 4K Apple TV connected to a 1080p tv. Prior to last night I never had issues. Frame rate matching is on but after updating I noticed it was disabled. Now, with frame rate matching on or off playback is not smooth like it was before. It's jumpy and appears to be dropping or skipping frames. It's far worse than 24p content being played back at 30fps . My connection speed is fine and I also tried reinstalling the app. The strange key part is that only specific shows have the problem. For example, Safe and Black Mirror have the problem but Wheelman is perfectly fine. For the content that has the problem I noticed the couple seconds of black screen that usually appears when the frame rate is being figured out does not happen. The Apple TV spins for a couple seconds then jumps directly to playback. All other content with other apps appears to be fine. Is this a Netflix problem or a tvOS problem? [UPDATE] - I reset the video settings and went through the setup again. I turned on the match frame rate option and did the 24fps test. Safe on Netflix was still jumpy. I then enabled the 50hz international option and the video test passed. I tested Safe again and the jumpiness was completely gone. I tested Black Mirror and it was smooth again too. My 4k Apple TV connected to my 4k TV, and my 4th Gen Apple TV connected to a 1080p TV did not have the problem, so in my case the problem was the combination of the 4k Apple TV connected to a 1080p TV. [UPDATE 2] - Is Netflix really streaming at either 25 or 50fps for certain shows? [link] [comments] |
Apple TV remote in control center sometimes works, sometimes doesn’t Posted: 30 May 2018 11:28 AM PDT Gives me the error "Can't connect to Apple TV, make sure [Apple TV name] is turned on and connected to the same network" probably 50% of the time. Apple TV 4K and iPhone X, and both are definitely on the same network. My network is set up as dual-band, could that be the issue? I'm not sure which is on 2.4ghz and which is on 5ghz, or if they are on the same. I'm pretty sure it's just set to auto. Of note, we recently moved and I've yet to run ethernet to the Apple TV4K; at our last place it was connected via ethernet and the Remote in CC worked much more consistently. [link] [comments] |
AirPlay Passcode + Restrictions Posted: 30 May 2018 01:49 PM PDT An Apple TV 4K has content restrictions on (Explicit Music for the kids) and it seems to be forcing AirPlay passcode. Does anyone know a way to keep the restriction on and yet allow no-code AirPlay? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 30 May 2018 07:45 AM PDT Hello. I had the ATV4 ever since it came out. It have been connected via ethernet since I got it. I mostly use it to stream from a local NAS. But suddenly the ethernet port doesn't seem to be able to connect to my router. When I check on the network settings, it only show the wireless option even when the network cable is still connected. Wireless works fine but I rather have it connected using ethernet since it just a few feet away. Anyways, did this happen to anybody else? The ethernet port just suddenly stop working?
