Posted: 02 May 2018 09:54 PM PDT After removing the .AppleSetupDone file, through the single user boot mode, my macbook pro(mid-2012) gets stuck at a grey screen, it's not a boot problem, as i earlier had filevault on, so i had to log-in first, but even after removing filevault, the screen is stuck at a dark grey screen, the mouse is visible, the screen brightness icon appears too if the keys are pressed, but the setup assistant won't appear. | Posted: 02 May 2018 09:32 PM PDT I have an iPhone 7 running iOS 11.3.1, and I've been having this issue for a few months. Every once in a while, when I tap an app to open it, all the apps do the animation as if I were holding down the screen (apps shaking with 'x' in the corner), and then the app I tapped initially will do the animation as if I pressed the 'x'. The app is then no longer on my home screen, but I can still open the app if I use the multitasking manager (assuming I've used the app recently). To fix it, I have to go to setting and reset the layout of the home screen, and rearrange all my apps to how I like them again. I don't know if how I described it made any sense, but anything I can do so this doesn't happen again?? It's annoying to have to rearrange all my apps and create all my folders multiple times a week. | KeyRemap4MacBook HELP Plz!! — Shift Key Stuck Posted: 02 May 2018 07:59 PM PDT Hello, I dropped my MacBook the other day. The shift key seems to have gotten stuck and won't come unstuck. Well it did for a day and then became stuck again. It is basically unusable like this, easoecially since I can't use the numbers. The solution I came up with is to use keyremap4macbook to disable the offending shift key (not sure which yet). My MacBook is old and is running OSX 10.7.5 hence I am using an older version of keyremap4macbook, version 8.3. I have successfully installed the software. I have selected changes out of change key shortcuts. The problem is once I select a change it is not actually taking effect. For example I disabled the delete key just as a test and I can still delete fine. I disabled both shift keys and nothing happened. I'm not quite sure why the changes aren't working. In the menu bar no option is coming up for the internal keyboard so I'm not sure how it knows to change the internal keyboard. It gives me the option to create profiles but not to select actual keyboards. I only have one, the internal keyboard just wondering if that may be my problem. As you can tell I don't really know what I'm doing. Any help on how to use this software would be greatly appreciated. Conversely any ideas on other ways to address this issue outside of paying to have a new keyboard installed would be great. Dropping the MacBook has also seemed to slow down the operating speed as well but that's a whole different issue. For now I really need to use it slow or not for some work. Thanks! | Need help resetting MacBook Air Posted: 02 May 2018 07:58 PM PDT Long story short I was given a MacBook Air from a deceased relative. No one knows the password. Was wondering if there was a way to bypass that? I've tried to reset the password in recover mode, but from what I can tell the Mac has FileVault on. Also I'm not sure what OS the book is running. Can any one help me with this?? Also have read that showing proof of purchase to a store front could help, but I'm pretty sure the family had thrown that away not knowing. According to her, the MBA does turn on though (the Apple logo on the back lits up). I saw her this weekend and her MacBook was working properly. | Macbook Pro loosing time when battery is flat Posted: 02 May 2018 05:06 PM PDT Heello! I'm a mac user since 2013. I have a Macbook Pro Early 2011, with 16gb of RAM, 256Gb SDD + 500Gb HD and just updated to High Sierra (10.13.4). And recently, the OEM Battery died for good. I'm from Brazil and I don't have any Apple certified stores near me. So I bought a battery online, and changed it myself. Well, it works great, but now, if my battery runs dry, even for a couple of seconds, it doesn't come back to the state it was before, and it looses time. I know macbooks since became unibody, don't have that small battery on the motherboard, it has NVRam, but is it possible that I did something wrong with it? | Posted: 02 May 2018 04:53 PM PDT So, I have this Numbers spreadsheet, which I work with in iCloud on different devices. I made some changes to it in my work computer (with High Sierra, and Numbers 5.0) today around 4pm. I got home, opened my personal MBP which had that file and make one change and save. Numbers tells me there are two conflicting versions and to pick one, the 4pm work one, or the just now one. I pick the work one and click "Keep one". Despair. Now the file is corrupt and Numbers can't open it. It says: Jesus, this should NOT happen when choosing which version to choose. Anyway, browsing "All versions" I realize that every version going back says the same damn thing "This file can't be opened". So now, I have no way to open the file, every backup made by iCloud is useless, and I can't open my fucking spreadsheet. Anybody got any ideas? My personal computer also had Numbers 4.x.x when all of this happened. I updated to 5 since, but still the same problem. God I'm hating Apple. [link] [comments]  |
| Posted: 02 May 2018 08:19 AM PDT I was at a rented cottage recently outside of many carriers' coverage areas, and found an iPhone under the couch cushions. My in-laws have been renting this cottage for months, so the phone had clearly been lost there for a long time. I charged it up, but the phone is passcode-protected, and while there is a SIM card inside, it only shows "No signal". So no lost message, no way of asking Siri to call people in the contact list, no way to connect to wifi and hopefully hit Find My iPhone. We contacted the cottage owner to ask if it was hers, or if any of her previous tenants had ever mentioned a lost iPhone -- nope. Took the phone back to a larger city hoping that the signal would connect -- nope. Any suggestions for how I could find this phone's owner? It's been this way for 4 days. Other apps work just fine. I tried: turning my phone off and on, resetting, Deleting the apps and downloading again, signing out of my google account on my iPhone preferences, resetting my settings back to factory defaults. Nothing worked. It's only google apps. Has anyone experienced that kind of problem? Any help would be appreciated. I don't have much experience with reddit, I hope I'm doing it right. Thank you! | Stop browser from opening .xls file and have Excel app do it instead Posted: 02 May 2018 03:37 PM PDT After last ios update, our work .xls files wont display correctly when accessed via the web browser. IOS wants to open the file to display it. Downloaded excel app, but the link still opens in the browser. The link is a direct link to an excel spreadsheet. I want to either A: stop the browser from trying to open the file so the the file downloads to phone storage and can be opened locally in Excel app or B: change the default app for opening excel files (like you can on PC or Android) so that they default open in the Excel app which is able to properly display them. there is no "open with" dialog that i can see... | Restriction's Mode is stopping me from downloading browser stuff Posted: 02 May 2018 07:13 PM PDT I've already had issues with restrictions mode, so I had reset it through iTunes. But once I tried downloading something, it asked for the code once again.I tried putting in the traditional 1,2,3,4 but that didn't work and I don't know what my past code was, so now I'm screwed. When I go on the restriction's setting's, it says its off. And when I try turning it on with 1,2,3,4 , it'd work, but the downloading one didn't. Can someone help me with my issue? | Posted: 02 May 2018 07:08 PM PDT Hello! I have a 2 year old MacBook Pro, recently after traveling with it to Mexico it will not turn on. I have no idea if this has something to do with it, but it worked before and doesn't work now! I didn't drop it or spill any liquid on it— it looks perfect from the outside. It will not turn on, boot up, or make any noise at all when holding the power button. It does hold a charge and I have tried the SMC reset which shows that it works by changing quickly from Amber to green to Amber again but it does not make the computer turn back on. | My iPhone 7+ isn't receiving iMessages Posted: 02 May 2018 07:05 PM PDT So, I just got a new phone today. My Dad had an iPhone 7+ that he wasn't using, because he upgraded. I took his i7+ into the Cellular store and they got they updated the phone, and fresh restored it, along with getting my phone number onto it. When I got back home I decided I took my previous phone, my iPhone 5S, still on iOS 10, and back it up in iTunes. I then took my i7+ and backup restored from my 5S's data. Everything was working great, until I realized I wasn't getting text messages. Let me explain what's happening. I seem to be getting all normal sms (non iPhone) texts. I can send iMessage texts. I can't receive iMessages, unless I text them first. That's my problem. I don't want to have to go through all of my contacts sending them a text, just so they can send me one back. I've tried shutting iMessage off, and I've tried logging out of iCloud. If anyone has any suggestions that would be great! Thanks! [link] [comments]  |

| MAC cleanup help - potential malware Posted: 02 May 2018 02:24 PM PDT Hi. I'm hoping someone can help me ensure that I have erased my MAC of any threats. I was trying to stream sports in a Chrome browser when I was prompted to install an update to java/flash. I installed it (I realize this was not smart) and two applications were downloaded on my MAC. - Booking.com application - Some kind of MAC Cleanup program I immediately deleted the applications from my computer. I downloaded Malwarebytes-antimalware for MAC, ran the scan, and 5 threats were detected. I removed them all. I re-ran the scan and it said my computer was clean. Are there any other steps that I can take to ensure that nothing malicious was downloaded to my computer such as a keylogger? Thank you in advance! [link] [comments]  |

Like an idiot i continued to try my password until the ipad became fully disabled. Error message now displays "Ipad Disabled, connect to iTunes". I have not backed up to iCloud in the past few years as my laptop was messed up so that is not an option, but I have turned the old laptop and got it to my iTunes- just unable to sign in for security reasons. Posted: 02 May 2018 09:14 AM PDT so my iphone 6 ran out of space and I hear storing shit on the cloud can clear it up. so I purchased more icloud storage space and activated iCloud photo library. my phone is fully updated and I have iCloud on my PC logged onto the same apple id as on my phone. the upload simply isn't happening. i'm on wifi and it's been an hour and the little message underneath where you turn on iCloud Photo Library on your phone in Settings>Photos&Camera still just says "Low Disk Space - Uploading 4325 Items" and that's not changing or going down. When I go to storage it shows up there on the bottom, Worse is iCloud which totals 7.5GB (even though actual counting the app data totals underneath sums to 1GB). How the actual hell do I clear this out without losing everything? I feel like a backup and restore will just put the issue back on. In addition, Finder did not say where it found these files. I then had to trawl through my drives looking for the files and eventually got them. Why must this be so hard? And how does one fix this?
