Posted: 12 Apr 2018 09:51 PM PDT My 13" MacBook's display stopped working a couple days ago. The hdmi port works and I am able to get it to send a signal to an monitor and everything will show up on there. I had also checked the backlight and nothing shows up. So the whole display is dead.I have tried everything on the internet(like resetting nvram and srm) and have had no luck. I then decided to bring it into my school's tech support. Their diagnosis came back that I need a whole new motherboard which will be around $500. Has anyone had issues similar to this? Any ideas would be helpful. Thanks. [link] [comments]
What's the best software to drive multi-monitor setups on Macs? Posted: 12 Apr 2018 08:55 PM PDT I've tried using SwitchResX & the now discontinued DisableMonitor but they are buggy to the point that I feel compelled to find another solution. I've checked in with the dev at SwitchResX and have reported a bug that crops up routinely that I can't shake unless I reboot my computer. PITA to say the least. My use case scenario, I am using a 15" Late 2012 MacBook Pro and I have a 32″ BenQ 4K Designer Monitor. I want to be able to disable the screen on my MacBook Pro when I'm working on the Ben Q display. I have not found software that does this reliably without issue. I'm wondering if there is other good multi-monitor software available for the mac? General search results don't reveal much. As far as I know there is no way to natively disable a screen on the mac short of closing the clamshell, in that case I'd need to purchase an external keyboard, which I am thinking I may well end up doing for a lack of a better option. If I go that route, what is your experience, is Bluetooth reliable or should I get a usb keyboard. I should mention that my monitor supports KVM keyboard functionality but I don't really understand if that would work well (or at all) with Macs. I thought I'd check and see if someone else knows of better software for driving multi-monitor setups, because even when I do upgrade to a beefier mac desktop computer I may still be interested in respectable multi-display software if it benefits me above the native Mac display management features. Cheers. [link] [comments]

Trying to decide between getting a new MacBook Pro now...or waiting until June? Posted: 12 Apr 2018 01:11 PM PDT Hey everyone, I commented on the purchasing thread earlier but haven't gotten any responses yet - so if this post isn't allowed, please forgive me. After my 2011 MacBook Pro died almost a year ago, I decided to switch to an Asus 2-in-1 laptop with Windows 10. I've had it for almost 9 months, and I honestly wish I never switched. The trackpad is terrible, I can't stand Windows 10, and the battery life is abysmal. For those reasons (and more), I'm going to switch back to Apple in the next month or two. I'd like to get a 15" MacBook Pro. Right now I'm looking at the 256GB option with the upgraded Radeon Pro 560 w/4GB memory, and getting the Pro Apps education bundle. I know that I'll need more storage in the future, but I'd rather shell out $90 for an external hard drive instead of paying $200 - $550 extra for internal storage. I'm a media professional, so I'll be using the laptop for things like Final Cut Pro and the Adobe Creative Suite, but I won't be using it for much gaming (if any at all). Heavy web browsing and multitasking with different programs is about as heavy as I'll get. That being said, I did have some questions that maybe you can help me out with:
My total budget, all things included (Pro Apps, AppleCare+, etc.) is $3000. My 2011 MacBook Pro lasted 7 years, I'm hoping this one can last just as long - if not longer. Thanks for your help! [link] [comments]
Posted: 12 Apr 2018 02:49 PM PDT Hi /r/macbook, I'm sorry to be posting technical support questions here, but I don't know where else to turn. I'm experiencing an incredibly weird bug that I hope you can help spread some light on. First of all, I've just had my computer repaired by Apple, because it seemed that the network card had broken; instead of the regular WiFi symbol in the top bar, it was greyed out with an exclamation mark on it instead, giving me an error message stating "WiFi: No hardware found". So the really strange thing happened when I tried to fix it myself. I found a guy who had the same issue as I did. He deleted the Networkinterfaces.plist, restarted his computer, went to System Configuration > Network and deleted "WiFi" in list to the lift. He then added a new "WiFi", went into Advanced and renewed the lease... See, I didn't get that far. I deleted the "WiFi" in the list, but whenever I try to add a new WiFi, nothing happens. HOWEVER, and this is the super weird part, the Thunderbolt-bridge icon in the list is green, and I actually do have internet connection - even though I'm not cabled and even though the WiFi-symbol in the top right corner looks like it's continuously searching for new connection. This is beyond my technical abilities; I can't comprehend how I even can have internet connection when I haven't activated my WiFi component in my network card. Can anyone help me spread some light on this issue? [link] [comments]

Which laptop for my situation? Posted: 12 Apr 2018 08:25 AM PDT I work in real estate so i would like to be able to work on my photos and videos. Will eventually be getting final cut pro. The one I'm looking at right now is the MBP 13 in 256 Flash Storage for 1500 but not sure if that would just be overkill in that case should i just opt for getting an air? I'm new with macs so be gentle [link] [comments]
XLR Microphone not working when used with Phantom power supply Posted: 12 Apr 2018 05:01 AM PDT My XLR mic works fine when I use it without phantom supply (audio is low), but it is not detected by mac when I use a phantom power supply in between. Has anybody faced a similar problem? What's the solution? [link] [comments] |
