Transferring data from a ~2008 MacBook to 2015 MacBook Pro? Posted: 05 Apr 2018 08:41 PM PDT I've been keeping this old water-damaged MacBook for a decade now and it's about time to transfer files so I can finally get rid of it. Here's what I've got: One (1) ~2008 MacBook, Model A1181. I don't know what operating system I last installed on it. Has Firewire 400, Ethernet, Mini DVI, and two USB 2.0 ports.
One (1) Late-2015 MacBook Pro, High Sierra 10.13.3. Has two Thunderbolt 2 ports, two USB 3 ports, and HDMI port.
What is the cheapest/fastest way to get my files from my old computer to my new one? I would go to the Apple Store if it wasn't either a $20 RT Uber/2 hr bus/4 hr walk away, so I'm trying to see if there's an easier way I can do it myself at home. Amazon is a minefield of incompatible peripherals and adapters, so if you could link to any specific things I need to buy that would be so helpful and very much appreciated. Thank you in advance! Posted: 05 Apr 2018 01:27 PM PDT I reset, nothing. I checked my region, US. But with this issue, I also noticed that the images and certain text in the iTunes Store was in Spanish. It just did this today, and is completely screwed up. Help? [link] [comments] |
Computer Resets all the time! Kernel panic question Posted: 05 Apr 2018 10:22 PM PDT Hello, My MacBook Pro (mid-2014, macOS High Sierra) started resetting pretty often about 3 days ago. I've deleted programs I thought would help, got rid of any potential malware, etc. It's still resetting pretty often and I don't know why. Please help! Not sure if it's a coincidence, but my battery has been dying crazy fast too. I have to charge it pretty often throughout the day now. Below is the error report in case it might help in any way. Thank you in advance... Is the use of Time Machine possible in my situation? Posted: 05 Apr 2018 09:36 PM PDT Hello Reddit! I'm in a bit of a predicament, and I need a solution. I'll keep it short. I was trying to clean out unused files from my computer's hard drive when I decided to format an External Hard Drive and move all of my Logic Pro X projects there. That went well and as intended, but then my dumb ass thought that iTunes made a copy of every song purchased not through iTunes (i.e. CD's) and deleted everything of the mp3 file type. I tried to get that back through Time Machine, but it made me format my hard drive (which I was okay with, because the point I was trying to go back to would have restored my Logic files to the computer). Except then it started backing up my computer in its current state, with no way to get to the point I was trying to get to through Time Machine. Once it was finished, that point was gone. Is there a way to get that point back and restore my computer or am I stuck with Data Recovery software? TL;DR I tried to use Time machine to backtrack a mistake but ended up backing up my computer's current state. The point I was trying to get to no longer exists in TM, is there a way to get it back? IPAD mini 2 won't pass "Siri not available" screen Posted: 05 Apr 2018 09:21 PM PDT Hey all, I have an ipad mini 2 with the latest update. So a week ago my nephew drop my ipad and the screen cracked. So i purchase a new screen in order to do a screen replacement. This isn't my first time replacing an ipad screen so I felt confident I could do it with no problem. Now, during the process of replacing the screen i accidentally dropped one of the screws for the LCD shield plate. I was not able to locate it so i just continue with the replacement hoping it would be fine. I put everything back together with the new screen. Turned it on and everything seem to be working fine. I was able to input my passcode and get access to everything. Touch screen was responsible and felt normal. I left the ipad alone for a few hours and came back to it later on and saw that the screen was bugging out. It kept going to the "Siri is not available, no internet connection" it won't even let me input my passcode. when i hit the home button a few times it does show the numberpad for password entry but it will go straight to the siri is not available screen. I tried forcibly restart, and even re opening it up to check all the wiring to make sure i didn't cut anything off. The wifi wires seem to be connected and everything else seem to be connected correctly. And at this point i have no other ideas. If you have a solution I would be grateful. Thank you. Macbook 7,1 High sierra Issues Posted: 05 Apr 2018 09:18 PM PDT I have a Macbook 7,1 (White Macbook mid-2010) that I bought. Upgraded it to High Sierra and the touchpad options are gone. Just says waiting for bluetooth touchpad. I can no longer access any options. The touchpad works fine. I did a clean install of El Capitan and the touchpad options are there, so I then upgraded, and they're gone again. Is there a way to fix this? [link] [comments] |

Animojis and Front Facing Portrait Mode don’t work Posted: 05 Apr 2018 07:42 PM PDT I have an iPhoneX with iOS 11.3. I bought the phone two weeks ago and have had the same problem since day 1. Animojis track my face for about a second and then fails 100% of the time. Tapping to retry does nothing. My front facing portrait mode also doesn't work. The screen comes out near black even with good lighting. If it doesn't turn black it freezes. Either or happens 100% of the time. I have "Reset all settings" I have tried force closing I have tried rebooting I ran a diagnostic with the Apple support app. No hardware or software issues detected. I can get a screen rec up later if it helps. [link] [comments] |
Question regarding stolen iPhone, iCloud, and the thief that called me Posted: 05 Apr 2018 05:27 AM PDT I lost my iPhone 6 Plus a little over a year ago. It had a passcode and Find My iPhone was set up, which i immediately used to submit an erase request (I lost the phone on vacation and knew I would never get it back). I was bummed, but what I was worried about most was the data the phone contained. I would check Find My iPhone occasionally but it always showed as being offline with the erase request pending. After awhile I just figured the phone was destroyed or completely lost. That is until recently. I received a call from someone who claimed to have my phone. They wanted me to give them the password to my iCloud, saying that they bought the phone at the store but couldnt use it. I, of course, told them to fuck off after it was apparent they were never going to send it to me. However, it really made me paranoid to think that someone had my phone and potentially had access to everything that was on it. The device was the only Apple product I have ever had so I don't know much about how it all works. I just have a few questions, the answers to which will hopefully allow me to relax a bit. I don't care about the phone at this point; the only thing I am worried about is whether the thief will be able to access any pictures I had on the device. To me, it seems like the phone was reset almost immediately and the thief needs my password because of the activation lock. This is what, to me at least, makes the most sense. I mean, it's also basically what the thief said anyways. However, the reason I am still paranoid is that the device doesn't show up as being mine in some places. The only place I still see the phone listed as a device is on Find My iPhone. For example, the device isn't shown when I go to the settings in iCloud. I am just wondering if I have anything to worry about regarding the data that was on the phone. If he's asking for my login info, is that a sure sign the device was reset at some point? And if they can't get into iCloud to remove the device, why isn't it showing up anywhere but Find My iPhone? How was the thief able to call me? I apologize for the long post and I thank you for any help you can provide. I'm very tired while writing this so let me know if there are more details that would be pertinent. [link] [comments] |
High Sierra 10.13.3: iMessage sent time not matching up with automatically set time on Mac Posted: 05 Apr 2018 06:48 PM PDT Hey guys! So I've been having this issue since the update before this last one. Whenever I send a message (iMessage or SMS) from my Mac, the sent time will be marked as some time in the future, and this length of time has been gradually increasing over the last few weeks. For example, I'll send a message at 8:30, and the time in the top right of my computer will say "8:30" and if I check the message thread on my iPhone, it also says sent at "8:30." However, on my Mac, it will say that the message was sent at "9:25." This only happens with sent messages, not received, so messages appear out of order. My time has been set automatically. I tried going a couple days by setting the clock manually but that didn't fix the issue, so I've gone back to it being automatic. Anyone else having this problem? It's incredibly annoying, especially since I do a majority of my messaging while I'm on my laptop. Thanks in advance for any help you all can provide! [link] [comments] |
Chrome on Macbook Air completely freezing after High Sierra update Posted: 05 Apr 2018 06:43 PM PDT Hi all, I "upgraded" my early-2015 Macbook Air to High Sierra recently and have been regretting it ever since. Every couple of hours or so when working in Chrome it displays a beach ball and completely freezes - the beach ball just stays in place, cannot move it at all. This lasts for about 30-45 seconds each time, and is pretty maddening especially since I never once had anything like this happen on Sierra, or El Capitan for that matter. I have looked into reverting back to Sierra but I'd like to avoid that if I can - does anyone have any suggestions for how this issue could be solved? Thank you! [link] [comments] |

iPad 3 mini suddenly stuck in a boot loop Posted: 05 Apr 2018 05:20 PM PDT I went to work today and noticed that my iPad mini 3 (128GB + cellular) had the white screen with apple logo. I thought that it was updating on its own and didn't think anything about it. 10 minutes later I see the screen flash in the corner of my eye, and it again had the same screen. I did some google-fu and realized that I needed to reset it to factory. No big deal, I back things up so I tried it. It didn't work (I got an error). So I put the iPad in recovery mode (black screen with prompt to plug into itunes) and tried it. It unpacks the update and then the "cannot connect to ipad" error occurs. So after more googling, I put it into DFU mode and try it again only to get the same error. I took it to an Apple store and the gentlemen told me that it was a 2 hour wait to see a genius. I told him my problem and he said, "I'm gonna tell you right now, that is unfixable and we are going to recommend that you buy a new one." I went back to the office and tried everything again with a different cable but alas, no dice. So here I am. Got any ideas? EDIT 1: Some details. Ipad 3 mini 128Gb with cellular. Not sure which iOS version but I update regularly. [link] [comments] |

Updated my Macbook and now desktop is empty. Posted: 05 Apr 2018 11:00 AM PDT Yesterday I updated and restarted my Macbook and now my desktop is empty, and my wallpaper has returned to the default. Through Finder I see that all the files are still there, just none are visible from the desktop. Any help in fixing this issue would be greatly appreciated! [link] [comments] |
Very strange music storage issue Posted: 05 Apr 2018 04:47 PM PDT If I got into settings and storage and view my music I have songs listed in there taking up a good amount of space (about 1G) of artists and songs I've never even heard of before. They aren't in my music app (I use Apple Music). Wondering what the heck this could be. [link] [comments] |

Got a new Screen on my Macbook, now it's hot and low battery time. Posted: 05 Apr 2018 03:19 PM PDT I have a Macbook mid 2015 and I had those stains on my screen so Apple changed my screen last week for free. I have never in my 3 years owning this macbook heard the fan, but now it goes on after 10 minutes when lying in bed and watching youtube or something. And the battery time is probebly half of what is was before the change. So is this because the new screen needs more juice and gets the computer hotter? Or could it be something else that I can fix? It get really hot now and I can't have it in bed anymore. [link] [comments] |

No Battery Health Information in iOS 11.3 Posted: 05 Apr 2018 12:51 PM PDT When I got to the battery section on my 6G iPod touch, there is no battery health information. The battery on my iPod touch is extremely erratic. Sometimes it will say its at 10%, and as soon as I pug it in its already at 34%. I bought it refurbished from Apple a little over a year ago. I had an iPod touch 5G before this, and I could go 4-5days without charging if I kept the Wifi off. I can't make it more than 2 days with my 6G. [link] [comments] |
