| Posted: 12 Apr 2018 06:54 PM PDT I've had this laptop for almost 7 years now, and have had a technical difficulty that has me a little freaked out. I've taken really good care of my laptop, there was no drop recently. I powered my laptop up, and the only thing that pops up is a blinking folder with a question mark on it. It just continues to blink without any resolution. I found a restart guide that told me to hold the Apple and R key, I went through that and I couldn't get the option to repair my disk (I don't think I could even find that as an option). I'm nervous about doing a time machine because I haven't backloaded my documents ever, and I don't wanna lose my stuff. I have a feeling this is the end of the line for my laptop, and in all honesty was planning on getting a new one soon anyway. What do I need to do to ensure I can get all my stuff off it? Thank you! "Dear customer, Your Apple, was just used to purchase 'Sniper Shooter: Gun Shooting' on a computer or device that had not previously with that Apple ID on April 12, 2018 If you made this purchase, you can disregard this email. It was only sent to alert you in case you did not make the purchase yourself. If you want to view your payment history or cancel your payment on PDF document attached to this email Apple Support" ** Whatever 'Sniper Shooter: Gun Shooting' is I definitely did not purchase it. The only Apple product I have is my Ipad and its been in my house all day. The email gives me the option to open a pdf document but I dont want to be tricked into downloading a virus. | Mac Book Air failed during High Sierra upgrade. Posted: 12 Apr 2018 09:28 PM PDT Hello all. When attempting to upgrade the OS on my mac book air to HS something happened that did not let it install properly. Now when booting I get the gray circle with the / through it. I do not have a time machine backup. I tried command+r on boot and attempted to reinstall the OS. On multiple attempts (and 2 different reliable wifi connections) I got the error that important files needed to be downloaded and could not be downloaded at this time. Try again later. I then tried command+option+r and attempted to boot that way to download and or fix the issue. After 10-15 minutes of a spinning globe (also tried multiple wifi connections here) I got an error 2002f on the internet recovery. I've read the support articles and it advises that I redownload the OS from the app store but I cant do that since I cant boot. I thought about trying to make a bootable thumb drive with the OS on it but I do not have another apple product and to my knowledge I cant download the OS from a windows machine. I'm at a loss here. Im not sure how to proceed since the internet recovery option is not working. Any assistance would be extremely appreciated. Fyi this is a mid 2012 mac book air with an i5 so it is on the high sierra conpatibiltiy list from what I have read. Thanks in advance, I will provide any other info requested that I can. | Trying to install High Sierra onto new SSD Posted: 12 Apr 2018 09:17 PM PDT Just installed & formatted a new SSD into my mid-2010 MBP, and my original HDD into an enclosure. I haven't done the Time Machine backup because I don't have a drive large enough, so I'm counting on the Migration Assistant from my original HD to the new SSD. Currently I'm at the menu that pops up when you boot up pressing Cmnd R, and trying to reinstall High Sierra. When I try to install the OS, I'm told: "Installation requires downloading important content. That content can't be downloaded at this time. Try again later." Is the new SSD the problem? The only one I have been running into general confusion with is photos. I'm not totally sure how to go about using the Photos app to handle my photos. Who around here has a local file storage of photos? And what steps did you take to keep things organized? | Posted: 12 Apr 2018 03:23 PM PDT The SD card is not locked I use Time Machine to back up my MBA. When I go to the preferences and click options, I see my SD card (as I intended) but it's greyed out. I can't delete it. The SD card is like in a permanent state and I can't edit it. I copy things on to it and I delete things off of it. Then, I eject it out and mount it again and the state is again the same before I edited it I also use Google Drive as a back up When I go into the preferences and click USB devices and SD card, nothing is shown. Since the latest round of iTunes and MacOS updates in the last few days or so my apple TV 3 doesn't want to connect to either my Macbook Pro or Mac Mini that acts as my media server. Both are as up to date as they can be having done the updates the other day. They can use Home Sharing between each other, and all the things that I would consider obvious to check (such as being connected to Wifi) have been done and should be fine. I don't get it... What are the backups synced with ? I took the opportunity during a few calls with the customer service by asking for what it means but no one told me the same nor gave me a clear explanation. | My MacBook Pro just keeps restarting in a never ending loop. Posted: 12 Apr 2018 10:09 AM PDT About a day ago, the "Shut Down/Restart" menu popped up and before I could click cancel the computer just restarted. Since then every time I open my computer it Restarts and once working, restarts again in an infinite loop. Does anyone know if there is an easy way to solve this? Or do I need to send my computer to a lab? The computer is a 13 inch MacBook Pro from late 2015. Wish I could give more information...but every time I open my computer to check it restarts. | Apple Pen works after pairing just once, then stops working, with new ipad 9.7in Posted: 12 Apr 2018 05:22 PM PDT I have the new iPad that supports apple pen. After pairing, the pen works for 1 motion/contact, whether it's scrolling or drawing one line, and then proceeds to not work anymore. Ipad shows battery is over 70% and in the bluetooth menu it shows it's still paired. I have restarted the ipad but the same problem persists. Both items are brand new from the store today. | Hard drive replacement Macbook Pro Posted: 12 Apr 2018 01:52 PM PDT My hard drive died in my 2012 macbook Pro and I am going to get it replaced at a store (as easy as it looks I'm not handy and I dont want to risk it). The stores I've called say its x amount to replace the hard drive, but to replace the hard drive and install the oS is significantly more expensive. My question is, can't I re-install macOS myself through internet recovery? Or after getting the hard drive installed are there any steps I would need to know that they would cover in this price? | MacBook Pro mouse erratic/unresponsive Posted: 12 Apr 2018 01:39 PM PDT I have a Mid 2012 MacBook Pro which I use about once a week or so. It was last used last week Friday by my other half. Full screen mode on a video wasn't exited before closing the lid. I opened it up last night and the mouse started going crazy. Clicking on random things, resizing pages, closing applications etc. I've done a safe boot (shift when loading) and the mouse is 90% fine much less of the jitters! | iPhone 7 deleted 850+ of my photos Posted: 12 Apr 2018 12:09 PM PDT I had well over 1000 photos in my camera roll, until yesterday when I opened the photos app to find I only had 168. They're not in the Recently Deleted album and I don't use iCloud. I tried restarting the phone, to no avail. There appears to be no order to what was deleted. I'm on iOS 11.2.6, have 14.2 gb available. I contacted Apple support and they essentially told me there's no way of knowing why my photos are gone, and there's no way of getting them back. I haven't backed up to a computer in years. I uploaded everything to google photos 10 months ago, so I have some of my photos. But that's 10 months of travel and memories erased. (No Apple Music subscription) Posted: 12 Apr 2018 07:23 AM PDT I have had my iPhone X for 3 months, not a Apple Music subscriber and not displayed in the Music app. I have downloaded music from iTunes for a long time and familiar with both my phone and iTunes. Within the last week I purchased a 4 song album and single. I had played them on my phone at work yesterday without an issue. Today I go to my recently purchased songs and a pop up comes up saying that I am not connected to the internet (no wifi at work, never had it) and it didn't play my single and now seems to be not on my phone. I then check the small album and found the music was listed, one song was there, the rest were grayed out. My other music both burned from my CD's and previously purchased iTunes music is present. This is similar to an issue back a year or two ago where I would get logged out due to poor connection and ALL of my music/books would be removed until I re synced. Anyone have this issue? New bug? I can't take a picture of the screen because it is super quick. Anyway, I am fairly new to Macs, and I recently got the new 13" MacBook Pro. Every time I open the lid in the morning, for like a second, there is this weird gray screen that displays but goes away quickly. Then, I can click on my name to log in. | iPhone 6S screen FUBAR but phones works fine. Need to ensure a backup Posted: 12 Apr 2018 10:17 AM PDT My wife's iPhone 6S just had the screen fritz out on here. The screen is now completely white with black lines all over it. The phone has never been dropped and has been in an Otterbox case for most of it's life. The digitizer itself still works. so we can take a best guess at unlocking the phone. I have an appointment with the Apple Store tonight to get it looked at. But I need to make sure I have a good backup. I just bought additional iCloud storage and was going to plug it into power and let it try to backup to the cloud when my wife gets home with it. My question is, how long will the backup take? Sadly I can't force it, since I can't navigate the phone. I do plan to take a full backup of the phone in iTunes, assuming I can get it unlocked. This all started for my wife yesterday right after the 11.3 update. The phone started getting kind of ghosting, with bright lines up and down the screen. Then it would get more and more lines. A reboot this morning cleared it up for a few minutes and then the screen went to this and has been stuck there every since. https://i.imgur.com/PxWVeXT.jpg Apple support wants me to do a full factory reset, which I don't think will help. But it's worth a try, I guess. My wife gets home at 5. I have to do a full backup, then a wipe and restore within 45 minutes and then immediately leave for the Apple store. [link] [comments]  |
