| Apple News - Subscription Info Doesn’t Stay Posted: 01 Apr 2018 08:12 PM PDT So I subscribed to the Washington Post through Apple News a few months back, and then decided to cancel it when I got a cheaper rate with Amazon Prime. No whenever I open Apple News, I get a message that my Washington Post subscription has expired. I then click into a Washington Post article and it asks me to subscribe again for $5.99, or if I am already a subscriber, login now. I login with my Amazon credentials and boom, subscription activated, good to go. Except as soon as I close out of news this whole entire process has to be repeated. [link] [comments]  |

| Posted: 01 Apr 2018 10:17 PM PDT Would like to reset my AppleID password but when I have done this in the past it has resulted in several days of hell individually resetting the passwords on all my connected devices as well as the app specific passwords. This combined with the added inconvenience of 2FA verification makes it far more trouble that it is worth. I would like to simply confirm all of my connected devices and then have the new password automatically propagated to them? Is this possible or does anyone else have any ideas? When I scale the display to 2560x1440, it lags too much for me to get work done. When I set it to max resolution, it's fine, but the UI is WAYYY too small. Is there any way I can tell OS X to make everything bigger, but keep the monitor resolution maxed out? [link] [comments]  |
| iMac not loading after logging in Posted: 01 Apr 2018 08:51 PM PDT Hello, earlier today the family iMac stated lagging a bit, I decided to restart it. After restarting i logged in to my user and it's frozen on the spinning wheel which usually last a couple seconds. After time it goes to a black screen. | Mac Mini 2011 Stuck in boot loop Posted: 01 Apr 2018 04:42 PM PDT I've got a 2011 Mac Mini, fresh install of 10.11.4. It currently seems to be stuck in a boot loop when trying to boot it normally. It boots perfectly fine into safe boot and recovery mode. On the rare occasion it escapes the boot loop and actually gets to the login screen, it shuts down shortly after. I've posted a video of the boot up process in verbose mode: https://youtu.be/fD5q-USYD3Q. Ignore the random "v"s on the boot up screen, that was just from me holding down the "cmd+v" key combo too long. After the video cuts out, it automatically reboots and the cycle begins over again. When booting normally, the progress bar gets roughly halfway (maybe a little more than halfway) through before it blacks out and reboots. Thanks for the help! [link] [comments]  |
| M2 Style SSD not working in Mac Pro 4,1 Posted: 01 Apr 2018 02:55 PM PDT Hey All, Stupid Question: I had an M2 SSD (Crucial MX300 525GB 3D NAND SATA M.2 (2280) Internal SSD - CT525MX300SSD4) in my gaming PC and wanted to add it to my Mac Pro tower. I picked up a compatible M2 PCIE card but it won't recognize the drive. I've tried various google searches and terminal commands related to NVME and have had no luck. | Can't Search Using Safari's Search Bar Posted: 01 Apr 2018 04:50 PM PDT I have a Mac running 10.13.4, and the version of Safari is 11.1 Recently, I've discovered a problem that I can't use Safari's search bar. When I type something in the search bar then press the return key, it says "Safari can't open the page because the page's address isn't valid" Here is a screenshot of the error message. Posted: 01 Apr 2018 02:18 PM PDT When I go on my IPad and look at the storage it says I have 1GB left, but when I plug it into my Mac Laptop, it says I have 7GB available. I know that my Mac is right because I only have about 6 apps on my IPad and no movies or videos downloaded. My IPad also acts like it has no storage because when I try and download a movie, it does not allow me. Posted: 01 Apr 2018 08:07 AM PDT Im recently back into the iOS ecosystem, having left shortly after iOS7 when I replaced a dropped iphone 5 with an Android. While I did continue to use an ATV3 and iPad 3 after that, the iPad was used as a glorified remote and netflix device and never really as a productivity tool. I jumped back into tvOS/iOS with an ATV4K in September then added the 2017 iPad and an iPhone 8+ just before Christmas. There's been a few advances to iOS since then and I am wondering if I am really getting the most out of my devices. Ive used airdrop to move photos from my phone to my iPad or my wife's 8+ wirelessly but other than that I haven't used any new functionality that I couldn't do in iOS6/7. Am I missing anything? I do use Siri and Homekit, so there is that and I have an Apple Music sub. Im using ios/tvos 11.3 on all my devices. Is there a recommended site I could use to "catchup" on all of the advances to iOS? One thing in particular (and I realise its not on the iPad) but 3D touch... is this any different than a long press? Its not obvious how to use this feature. [link] [comments]  |
| Purple vertical lines on 2017 MBP Posted: 01 Apr 2018 01:23 PM PDT (256GB, 8GB RAM, touch bar version, high sierra) I've had this Mac since last July, been taking good care of it but something really weird happened. I had safari & terminal running when some purple lines started appearing out of the blue. In less than a minute, the whole screen was covered and it was impossible to see anything beyond those. I tried reboot & resetting NVRAM, neither solved the problem. When I try opening and closing the laptop, there is one angle at around 45 degrees where the screen is visible and clear (so it probably has something to do with connection) but it's really uncomfortable to use it like that, especially when I'm trying to type something. I bought the laptop in the US but I'm in Hungary right now and won't be back for a few more months, so I really hope there is a way I can use apple's warranty on this side of the planet as well. | iPhone failing to connect to CarPlay will be death of me!! Posted: 01 Apr 2018 10:42 AM PDT Apple CarPlay Failing to Connect to my iPhone 6. I bought a new 2018 VW Passat and I have been unable to connect my phone to CarPlay. I have searched extensively and can't come up with the reason why it won't connect to my phone. After I plug it in, I press the apple CarPlay button and I get the error message "connection failed - make sure your phone is unlocked." It immediately connects correctly to my daughters iPhone so it is not my cord or an issue with the car. I have: - updated my phone to the most recent update (11.3) - tried with blue tooth turned off and on. - made sure Siri is on - made sure all restrictions are off - cleaned lint out of my lightning port (holy shit was there a lot in there!!) but that didn't work Are there any apps that could be on my phone that would not allow CarPlay to work? Are there others settings that would stop CarPlay from connecting? If you guys don't have any fixes I'm going to the dealership tomorrow to have them look at it. Thanks very much! | Magic Mouse 2 and Magic Keyboard often disconnect when trying to wake up iMac Posted: 01 Apr 2018 10:42 AM PDT I've only had this iMac (Retina 4K, 21.5-inch, 2017, High Sierra version 10.13.3 (17D102)) for a little while, but I made the error of letting my Magic Mouse 2 fully lose its charge the other day. The keyboard stopped responding as well, so I went ahead and restarted the computer. The keyboard came back online and I was able to use Spotlight to access my Bluetooth settings. I charged my Magic Mouse for about an hour and it eventually reconnected after some struggling once it was unplugged from the lightning cable.
Since then, whenever I try to wake up the computer, it often does not recognize the mouse or my Magic Keyboard for a long time. This didn't happen until I let my mouse die. I've fully charged it since then and I went ahead and fully charged my keyboard even though it was still at about 65%, but now they both disconnect and it's driving me bonkers. I don't even know why the keyboard keeps disconnecting since I never let its battery die. Is there anything I can do to get them back to connecting as soon as the computer is woken up? (I hope I'm using the correct term, since I don't put it into hibernation - I simply let the screen go dark after a few minutes of inactivity, then tap a key to wake it up again). Usually I can hit a key to wake it up, but then it suddenly forgets that the keyboard exists, as well as the mouse. Sometimes the window pops up telling me that the computer is looking for a mouse or touchpad, though sometimes it does not.
I also wonder if there's some connection with the fact that I use the same lightning cable/port to charge my iPhone most of the time and maybe that's sending some sort of mixed signal to the computer? My usual routine is to come into the office, wake up the computer with a keystroke, plug my phone into the cable, and log back in. Now it seems like plugging my phone in too soon hinders the process of getting the keyboard and mouse to reconnect. I don't know if this is a common problem or something is wrong with my (almost brand new) keyboard and mouse.
Edit - I just tried to plug my phone back in to charge and my mouse and keyboard lost their connection again. I had to unplug the phone and turn the keyboard and mouse on and off again, but they came back quicker than usual this time. This didn't happen at all before. [link] [comments]  |

My macbook starting running very slowly all of a sudden for seemingly no reason and now its making many mistakes and even has a hard time with me typing in text into chrome or anything. I have not yet updated to high Sierra, I'm trying to now but my computer is too sluggish to even get the update going... any idea what's going on? [link] [comments]  |

I just want to record some video, connect my iPhone to my Mac and for it to automatically transfer the video to my Movies folder. Instead, I have to open Photos and have it automatically download the video from iCloud even through the video is on my iPhone connected with a cable. I thought only the screen would be broken, but not it doesn't show any sign of life when I connect it to my macbook. Not in the finder, and not in itunes either They haven't been used for at least a year, so do I have to charge them for one night? Or are they dead? She hasn't used the windows system on it in ages and has forgotten the password. There are important work files on it that we need to access. I have windows password recovery software ready on USB, but not sure how to boot it from the start up. When i start the comp, i hold option key to bring up Mac/Windows option, then choose windows. Can anyone tell me what I need to do from here to boot the flash drive before it goes to the W7 login screen? Any help would be most appreciated!!! [link] [comments]  |
| Could iCloud Music Library mess up my local music folder? Posted: 01 Apr 2018 01:25 AM PDT I currently use Google Play Music to store and stream my mp3 library, however I want to leave google and use iCloud Music Library instead. My mp3s are all 320kbps and are perfectly organised in Artist - Album folders, with a single art cover jpg and all files are fully tagged. My understanding is that iTunes Match will match as music as possible then upload the rest. However what I don't want is is for any of the folder structure, meta data or anything else to be touched in any way. So will iTunes attempt to mess with any of this or will it leave it as it is? Trying to do so ended in an error which forced me to restore the system from a Time Machine backup. I tried this twice, now I'm giving up for the moment.
