Has anyone noticed Face ID speed and range/angle improvements after updating to iOS 11.3? Posted: 06 Apr 2018 08:29 PM PDT I'm finding that my iPhone will unlock with more angles and more quickly now (i.e. with my face smashed up against a pillow). Anyone else noticed this? [link] [comments] |

Two weeks in on the HomePod and I'm actually preferring Siri Posted: 06 Apr 2018 04:42 AM PDT The general consensus on the HomePod has been that it sounds great but Siri is lacking. I don't think anyone was surprised by this and I don't think that it has deterred any of us from buying one. Additionally- my friends have even heckled my desire for a HomePod, citing the reviews of how bad Siri is, and I've let them know I'm interested in an excellent sound quality for $350 with the added bonus of being able to control my smart devices. Now, here is what I DIDN'T expect... I am actually preferring Siri to Alexa on my Echos. - Siri on the HomePod understands me better and responds more often (albeit occasionally a half second slower than Alexa would) - Siri seems to handle commands I want to use in a more human way (Siri can do "turn off all the lights in the house" with a zippy "Done!" but Alexa says "Sorry, I didn't find all lights house" in her normal robotic tone) - a few of my devices are HomeKit only, so they cants be controlled my Alexa. I had been using my control center Home widget but now I can tell Siri what I want. - Apple Music integration is huge. I use the pair Bluetooth option with Alexa but Siri knows my playlists AND doesn't hijack my phone audio. I'm sure there will be those who disagree, and that's okay, but this has been my experience and I'm starting to think the HomePod naysayers are just grumps. [link] [comments] |
I really wish Apple put more effort into the iCloud email service. Posted: 06 Apr 2018 06:29 AM PDT I've had an @me.com email account for almost ten years now. And I've decided to stick with it and wanted to stay away from Google stuff where I can. Especially for an email account that is used for personal/private correspondence. I'm just annoyed with the iCloud website version. It's clunky, loads slowly, and searching saved/archived email is a terrible and unintuitive experience. Also, the iCloud website seems to never "trust" my computer. Many times I have to repeatedly sign in and do a two factor authentication almost every time I log into my email on the same computer. It's super annoying. I've read multiple times that Apple wants to expand more into "services" and I just can't help but feel that their iCloud mail is one of those services that is neglected. Apple Maps, another successful vacation Posted: 06 Apr 2018 02:14 PM PDT I know many seem to think Google Maps is superior but I've used Apple Maps mainly for the past few years. New York, Philadelphia, San Diego, San Fran, Florida, D.C and recently for a week in New Orleans with no issues whatsoever. Transit directions worked perfectly for catching all of the street cars and paired with the AW so easy to follow without even taking the phone out. The interface and integration is much better, especially with Siri, and it uses much less battery since you can turn off the screen until the next turn. I only used to open Google Maps solely to get an address because sometimes the POI name was different. I would then find the location in AM. It existed in Apple Maps but depending upon who sent the location it would differ from GM. But the POIs have improved so much that I can't remember the last time I opened Google Maps. New (?) video feature in Apple Music that hopefully becomes standard across iOS... Posted: 06 Apr 2018 09:04 PM PDT When playing a music video in Apple Music, the video automatically goes into full-screen landscape mode, even if Rotation Lock is enabled! You can exit by pressing I am running iOS 11.3 on an iPhone X. [link] [comments] |
Apple is confusing me with their colors Posted: 06 Apr 2018 02:20 AM PDT I don't quite get the decision to make all these colors, which sometimes share the same name (spacegrey, black, gold) but dont look the same. The Macbook's and the Macbook Pro's spacegrey doesnt look the same at all. I mean, even black is not the same as it used to be. I mean, it's not the end of the world, it's just not very 'Apple-like', if you know what i mean. TL;DR: Colors differ, even if they share the same name. [link] [comments] |

Posted: 06 Apr 2018 11:05 AM PDT Hello, I know this has been discussed before, but is anyone else STILL getting rubbish battery drain when using the iOS app for YouTube? I know they released an update a while back which was supposed to address it, but I swear it's still happening. [link] [comments] |

4K at 60 fps / 1080p at 240 fps Posted: 06 Apr 2018 06:13 PM PDT Considering setting my camera to these settings, but the prompt says that they'll on play on masOS 10.13.x Is this true? Can I not play these on VLC in Windows? [link] [comments] |
Comprehensive list of iPhone features added since 5S? Posted: 06 Apr 2018 02:39 PM PDT Does something like this exist? Or could you folks give me a quick rundown? I'm still on my 5S and I haven't upgraded to iOS 11 because I fear for my battery life. But after 4.5 years of using this phone I'm finally getting the itch to upgrade. I figure if I've gone this long I might as well go big and upgrade to the 10. Is there a comprehensive list of features that have been implemented since the 5S? I know some big stuff like Apple Pay and Force Touch that I've never had, but I'm sure there are a lot of things "under the hood" that I wouldn't be aware of. Thanks! [link] [comments] |
Difference in sound quality, between MacBook pro and other devices. Posted: 06 Apr 2018 08:11 PM PDT Does anyone have any idea why my MacBook pro makes music and YouTube videos sound so much better when connected to my speakers, than my iPad 5th gen, and my Android cellphone do? I can definitely hear the difference, especially when watching music videos on YouTube. [link] [comments] |
Can anyone help me identify this iPhone case? Posted: 06 Apr 2018 11:11 AM PDT |
What is your favorite Mac OS X "Default" Wallpaper? Posted: 06 Apr 2018 12:41 PM PDT My favorite was either Lion's or Snow Leopard. I usually switch back and forth between the two on my iMac! [link] [comments] |
Shoutout to Apple for making the glass on the back of the iPhone X easy to clean Posted: 06 Apr 2018 08:34 AM PDT As someone who lives on the edge and doesn't use a case on my phone, I LOVE how easy it is to get fingerprints off the back of the X. I've had several glass Samsung phones in the past and it always takes some sort of liquid to get all the prints off. But on the iPhone, I can wipe the back of it on my shirts and the prints all come off. Minor detail but it makes a big difference to have a clean looking phone. [link] [comments] |
How is the 2015 MacBook 12”? (Intel Core M) Posted: 06 Apr 2018 09:13 PM PDT I've never owned a MacBook before. Only Windows laptops and custom-made gaming desktops. Now I've totally moved on from Windows. I've found a MacBook for sale locally, its the 12" MacBook 2015, with an Intel Core M 1.1GHz, 512GB SSD and 8GB RAM. $800 Canadian. I'm a university student, I intend to use it for web-browsing, document editing, light photo editing, and a bit of light video editing. The video editing will be 1080p video, sometimes 60fps. Just short videos, for fun - having them render quickly is not important. As long as the editing process is not a total pain. I also recently got a 10.5" iPad Pro and pencil as a gift, I use that for note-taking in class and, right now, it basically serves as my laptop as I don't have any other device other than my iPhone. Battery life is also important, how is that? I'd like for it to last 3-4 years, is that realistic? TLDR: How is the 2015 MacBook 12" (intel core m)? For browsing, documents, light photo/video editing. Is battery life good? [link] [comments] |
