Would *love* mute capability on the Siri remote

There is one particular commercial on TV in the local area that is driving me crazy. If we could press and hold the volume down button to mute it like we can do on the iPad it would be awesome.

Why do dark scenes look bad/compressed when streaming?

    Posted: 14 Feb 2018 10:44 AM PST

When streaming Netflix, HBO Go, and Hulu i almost always see these square splotches on dark/black areas during dark scenes (but everything looks fine and sharp during lit scenes). Example.

I have an AppleTV 4 (one before the 4K version). I have tested on the device my wifi speed which is 95 Mbps download and upload.

Playing an itunes movie i purchased does not exhibit this issue, but i don't know if it is streaming (although apple told me the movie is not saved on the device, i am not sure).

If netflix is capable of streaming 4K, how come i can't even get 1080p on fast wifi to look right?

If it is somehow the HDMI cable, is there a test i can run, or do I need to replace the cable to find out? If it is not the cable what else could cause this?

    Thanks

Is anybody else experiencing this? It happens on some apps like Cityscapes and Earthlapse.

    How does background processing work?

    Posted: 14 Feb 2018 07:42 PM PST

I've been using my ATV4K for a few months now, and it occurred to me it's not clear how background processing works. Can an app run in the background? Will it still stream? My hope is that streaming immediately stops as soon as I exit the app, as I'm nearing Comcast's data cap ever since I cut the cord.

Does Apple TV 4k upscale text and UI?

    Posted: 14 Feb 2018 08:56 AM PST

    Hey guys,

I'm thinking about getting an Apple TV 4k but was wondering how many apps render in 4k? Is there a section on the store just for 4k apps? I know Netflix, amazon prime and iTunes movies do but how about other apps? Would text and UI from other apps render at 4k even if the video content is 1080p?

    Thanks in advance.

Apple TV 4k video loads slow; sometimes with black screen and spinning wheel

    Posted: 14 Feb 2018 12:22 PM PST

Lately I've been noticing every time I start a video I have an issue with the video loading. I get a black screen for a few seconds and sometimes a spinning wheel.

    • Is it my settings? HDR?
    • Is it my homepod? (delay with syncing audio)

    Very frustrating.

Question Regarding Apple TV and Linking TV Providers

    Posted: 14 Feb 2018 08:32 AM PST

I'm currently remodeling my apartment so I've been staying at my parents' house for the sake of convenience. They have an Apple TV that I use pretty regularly that is linked to their U-Verse account to access streaming content from multiple network apps, such as HBOGO, FX and others. I don't have a TV subscription back in my apartment. Would I be able to link my Apple TV using their login credentials (or even physically moving my Apple TV to their network to link apps and accounts) and still be able to access all of this content in my apartment while on my network? I ask because I have the suspicion that there might be some network authentication at work, as it's a means of linking without manually entering login information.

    Thanks
