Why am I unable to use Siri Female or Male as my text-to-speech voice? Posted: 26 Feb 2018 08:38 PM PST Crossposting because /r/iPhone apparently isn't interested. They're freely available for me to download and select, but whenever I select a piece of text to read, it defaults to the robotic Samantha voice. I can even select the enhanced Samantha (or any other voice for that matter) and it reads perfectly fine. What gives? Is this intentional? If so, why is it even an option? [link] [comments] |
How can I get songs from Apple Music onto my iPhone so I can listen to them offline? Posted: 26 Feb 2018 10:28 PM PST I downloaded a bunch of music on my Computer with Apple Music and plugged my phone in, but it says I cant download songs from Apple Music and I have to use ICloud Music, which would just use up data. Help with MBP restarting while it's asleep Posted: 26 Feb 2018 04:27 PM PST I have a early-2015 MacBook Pro running High Sierra version 10.13.3 and I'm experiecning an issue where it will restart after it goes to sleep when I close the lid. It doesn't happen immediately. When I open the lid, the screen is usually black except for the text box for me to input my password. I have tried looking up other solutions, but I haven't found anything that works. I'm trying to find something before I have to erase everything and start over. Any help would be appreciated! MacBook Pro Startup Disk Failure Posted: 26 Feb 2018 10:21 PM PST For a while, I'd been getting notifications that my startup disk was full, but my attempts at clearing space were to no avail. Today, when I turned my laptop on, I was met with a white screen and a flashing image of a folder with a question mark on it. I read that there are multiple ways of solving this, but I was unable to restore and older version using Time Machine. I was also unable to use anything on the First Aid page. I went out and bought a flash drive because I read that I could save a backup onto it, however, when I searched for photos, music, etc. on my macbook's drive, I couldn't find anything. I would really appreciate any advice/help, because it would crush me to lose all of my photos since 2011! I think it's also worth noting that my computer is in a much older update than the current ones (circa 2010 I think). Thanks in advance! [link] [comments] |
Can’t download Kindle on iPad Mini 1st gen? Posted: 26 Feb 2018 05:33 PM PST I have an iPad mini first generation and I'm trying to download the Kindle app, but it says I need iOS 10+. The device is updated to iOS 9.3.5 and it says it's up to date. I tried contacting Apple support and they basically said they won't help me because my device is so old. Is there any way to download an older version of the app? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 26 Feb 2018 08:12 PM PST Just bought a used macbook bro from a friend today. I reset it and am trying to install os x and when I go to install it asks for my apple id. I did not have one so I made one and entered it and it just keeps saying (this apple id has not been used in the app store) then gives me the option to review and pulls nothing up. Please help! MacBook jittery screen. Please help (YT video) Posted: 26 Feb 2018 07:45 PM PST Hello guys, Since yesterday my 2016 MacBook started this weird behavior. The screen is randomly "shaking" (or jittering/flickering, for a lack of a better word) from left to right. It's very sudden, very brief, and completely random. Please check out the video I uploaded .YouTube video of the issue Do you think it could be a hardware issue? Any idea how to solve this issue? I already did a PRAM reset, same. I will try a clean reinstall tonight but I'd like some hindsight. Thanks. Macbook is fully updated, no weird program installed recently / no shock or physical damage happened. [link] [comments] |
iPhone 5 has Been Glitching a LOT Posted: 26 Feb 2018 07:41 PM PST I've had my phone for 3-4 years now and it has worked great over the years. However, recently it's been extremely glitchy and I don't know what I should do because it's frustrating and causing a lot of problems. • First all my notes in my Notes app disappeared. I was pissed. I know there are solutions to retrieve them but right now I don't need to access them. But I still don't like how they disappeared without warning. Also, when I make new notes, sometimes I'll delete something, and then I come back and it's still there. Or I edit a note and the edits are not made when I come back to the note. • As of today, I can't access my photos from my camera roll. I can only look at pictures from other albums. If I try to click on Camera Roll I go back to my home screen. • I am not receiving some messages and sometimes parts of the messages are omitted. Like if my friend sends three texts in a row sometimes I'll not get the 2nd one and it's confusing. Sometimes when I leave a thread I'll come back and the message I just sent is gone like I never sent anything. Or a big chunk of the conversation we've just had is gone. But I know that person received it. • Most of the time my text notifications are not showing up on my lock screen like they used to. I have to go to my Messages and click on them to see if anyone sent something. • The other day my phone was at 40 something percent and then when I tried to turn it on I found out it was dead. I charged it up for a minute or two when I got home, it turned out and was at like 30 something percent. Not far from 40. • Some apps close when I try to open them sometimes. If any of you know what a fix could be or if I should go ahead and get a new phone, please give me your insight. [link] [comments] |
Help! Liquid damage to MacBook Air Posted: 26 Feb 2018 07:07 PM PST I spilt a little bit of Pepsi on the keyboard of my MacBook Air and now my MacBook seems to be shot as it doesn't even turn on anymore. I have to wait till tomorrow to take it to a repair shop that's going to "clean" the motherboard. So that leaves me with a few questions for you guys...

Posted: 26 Feb 2018 01:03 PM PST I have an iPhone 7 with iOS 11.2.6. My texts randomly show up out of order, but only when messaging other iPhones. I send a message and then the other person replies, but my original text shows up under their message. It's driving me crazy! I have updated, force closed messages, restarted my phone, rebooted auto date/time settings, and turned iMessage on and off. Any other suggestions?! Thanks! [link] [comments] |
How to use two external displays with MacBook lid closed. Posted: 26 Feb 2018 07:09 AM PST Hello, Just switched from PC to Mac and trying to figure out how everything works. I am trying to use a USB docking station with two external monitors. I'd like it so that when I close the lid of my MacBook, the primary display turns off AND is no longer an active display in my screen arrangement. Currently, when I close the lid, the primary display acts as a third display even though it's shut. Disabling WiFi from control center enables itself back on. Posted: 26 Feb 2018 11:12 AM PST Even though when disabling it would show a text that says: disconnecting nearby WiFi until tomorrow. It doesn't even hit 24h or midnight and then I realize it's already back on. I'm doing this to stop my phone thinking I'm near my usual WiFi hotspots - to save battery and make sure browsing doesn't slow down while it's searching for WiFi access points. I'm currently on iPhone 8 Plus and even had this issue back with iPhone 7's since the last update. Anyone else experiencing the same? [link] [comments] |
The filesystem of my iMac is broken. Posted: 26 Feb 2018 04:36 PM PST Using an iMac (Retina 4K, 21.5-inch, Late 2015) on macOS ver. 10.13.3 This has never happened to me before. So I install a file that I haven't installed before, and when I try to open it, it says that the operation cannot be completed because the original item for "(FileName)" cannot be found, but how? There is no original file, because this is the original file. So, I thought that I might have installed it a long time ago without knowing, hence saying that the original file cannot be found (I might have made the file hidden) so I went to go look for the original file, but I couldn't find it. I searched everywhere on my hard drive, and it wasn't anywhere to be found. So now this is the part that confuses me the most: I right-click the "alias" and click "Get Info", because I know that that is where you can find the directory for the original file. I look at the directory for the original file, and it leads me back to the alias file. What? I have tried restarting Finder, restarting the Mac, and deleting and installing the file again. None of it works for me. So now I'm confused and stumped. I've looked for help all over the internet and none of the advice is working for me. Help. [link] [comments] |
iPhone 6’s home button no longer capacitive Posted: 26 Feb 2018 04:20 PM PST So, after replacing my iPhone 6's screen at home somewhat successfully I've had two problems with my home button. At first when I turned the iPhone back on it said that my Touch ID had "failed" and it couldn't be used. I took the home button off and put it back on and then that message didn't show up again. When I was having that problem I went to the Touch ID section in Settings and found that all the fingerprints I had registered were gone, and when I tried to add a new one it wouldn't even let me try, it would just say that my Touch ID sensor had "failed". I'm aware this is a common problem and I have already fixed it, now this is my Touch ID section in settings: It recognizes the sensor However, this is the new problem I ran into and still haven't been able to fix it. My home button is no longer capacitive. When I try to scan my fingerprint it simply won't respond, as well as when I try to use reachability. I tried googling it and couldn't find anyone with the same problem, so I wonder if you guys could give me any ideas on how to fix this. Thanks in advance! [link] [comments] |
Can two factor authentications trusted devices recover password etc. Posted: 26 Feb 2018 11:17 AM PST Hi, I am trying to find information about two-factor authentication and read the apple's webpage about it. But I have some questions or concerns which were left unanswered. Also some posts about successful hacks to Apple ecosystem have made me concerned. So I have listed few questions below I would like to find answer for before starting to use two-factor authentication.
I feel that in my situation it is more likely someone will get access to one of my devices than my password getting stolen. So I want to know will this two-factor authentication actually just open one more way to use trusted device to get access to my iCloud. Thank you if you had time to read and answer :) [link] [comments] |
Ethernet Adapter only works on single USB-C jack Posted: 26 Feb 2018 11:03 AM PST I need to use wired ethernet at my office. I have a 2017 MacBook Pro and the Apple (Belkin) USB-C Ethernet adapter. I've found that it is only recognized if I plug it into a single USB-C jack on my Mac. Other jacks have worked in the past but no longer work. Is there a reason it only works on this one USB-C jack now? Is there anything I can do to make it work on the others? [link] [comments] |
Running Safari 11.0.3 in Unsafe Mode Posted: 26 Feb 2018 02:03 PM PST Issue: I need to run Safari in unsafe mode. Long story short, bought a brand new MacBook Pro hours ago for work. Have to download Junos Pulse and the download won't prompt. I googled the issue and downloaded Java plugin. Found the "Settings for this website" button and turned on Java plugins for Safari for the website I'm trying to access, but won't work. Help. Been looking at this for hours. Posted: 26 Feb 2018 07:56 AM PST Hello, My iPhone 6s often won't connect at all to GPS, or if I leave Google Maps / Waze or other apps open for around 10 minutes it will connect after that amount of time. I have all the permissions enabled for the apps to use GPS. Any advice is appreciated [link] [comments] |
Problems with Preview app for Macbook Posted: 26 Feb 2018 01:37 PM PST I recently updated my mac and have been having problems with Preview. The notes I add just randomly get deleted when I close the pdf and re-open it. Does anyone know how to fix this? [link] [comments] |
Um.. I can't find "Find my iPhone" on my Mac. Help? Posted: 26 Feb 2018 01:15 PM PST I've used it before on my MacBook to find my phone. That was back when I was on El Capitan. Today was the first time I've needed to use it since upgrading to High Sierra, and... it seems to have vanished into thin air. I don't see it anywhere on the App Store either. I'm almost positive I didn't delete the app myself, so that means Apple must have removed it somehow when I updated? Why? [link] [comments] |

Google maps has me traveling backwards Posted: 26 Feb 2018 06:22 AM PST About a month ago, Google Maps started showing me either traveling sideways or backwards, occasionally frontwards but not often. It's particularly annoying because I'm dyslexic, and having the viewport in classic map mode so north is always at the top of my phone is a challenge I don't particularly enjoy while driving. Has anyone else had this problem? Anyone found a solution? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 26 Feb 2018 08:24 AM PST Hello, I thought Icloud could be used like Google Drive if i paid for more storage since i dont like the direction google is going and im afraid to put all my eggs on one basket Here is what i mean by google Drive: I upload things to, and can view them via interent, and when needed download things from to my mac. Now i purchased 200gb of icloud, set the photo sync on my phone, went to Photos on my mac and saw it just downloaded everything and everything is stored on my macbook pro storage Anyway, i feel like im hitting around the bush - Can icloud be used a "cloud" or it to look at content i MUST download them to my mac and its just a backup thing more than anything els? if so, ill downgrade back to 50gb (if i do, what happends to the rest of my 150 gb of content?) thanks alot [link] [comments] |
I buggered the edge of my MacBook Pro screen. Should I / how can I get it fixed? Posted: 26 Feb 2018 08:13 AM PST I did a stupid. I closed the lid while there was a bit of grit inside, and part of the bezel has broken. Everything still seems to work ok, but it's not great to have a part-broken £2,000 machine. It's a 2017 MacBook Pro 15". I bought it here in the UK, when it came out in summer 2017. Should I take it to the Apple Store? I use it all the time for work, so I couldn't go long without it -- I don't fancy travelling ages to get there and having to hand it over for a week's repairs. Would it be an expensive fix? I didn't buy additional AppleCare. Cheers! Images: https://imgur.com/1IzOORX https://imgur.com/gallery/34FEq [link] [comments] |
