Reinstalling OS X using mobile phone hotspot possible? Posted: 22 Feb 2018 02:58 PM PST I've been experiencing some weirdness on my 2015 MacBook Pro running Sierra. For instance, whenever I start up (which takes longer than usual) Safari will automatically launch. When using Chrome a new window will randomly open on a random website. And just general performance issues. My only means to access the Internet at the moment is by using my mobile phone hotspot via USB or wifi tethering. A few questions... 1) Will reinstalling Sierra fix these issues? If yes... 2) If I reinstall without erasing my drive, will the issues remain or should I just erase everything? 3) Mobile data is expensive so I'd like to download as little as possible, if possible. If I reinstall the exact same version of Sierra using recovery mode, will it actually re-download? I'm a bit confused as there is also "internet recovery mode" which can install the latest version of Sierra which obviously does use up data. 3.1) If my data is used in normal recovery mode, then I may as well just do the update? 4) I'm not 100% sure this can actually be done using my mobile hotspot in recovery mode. If so, can I download Sierra from the App Store or the Apple website and reinstall that way? Thanks for any help! [link] [comments] |
USB C hub powering Macbook Pro Posted: 22 Feb 2018 05:47 PM PST I have the 2016 macbook pro w/ no touch bar. Since it only has 2 usb c ports, and because of my set up it is more convenient for me to charge my macbook pro trough my usb c hub (https://www.amazon.com/AUKEY-Delivery-Charging-Chromebook-Pixelbook/dp/B072Q1SKZR). The usb c port has a 60 w power pass through. I know my laptop has a 61 W brick for the charger. Would charging my macbook through the usb c hub be detrimental to my battery, or will it only cause longer charging times? [link] [comments] |
Macbook Air 2013 -- not charging Posted: 22 Feb 2018 09:22 PM PST Hi all, I have a MBA 2013 with around 500 charge cycles. Last week, the light on the magsafe 2 charger stopped turning on. My MBA would not charge, but oddly enough the laptop still works only while plugged in. The battery symbol is blacked out with a lightning bolt/charge symbol, but stays at 1% or 2% indefinitely. Do you guys think it's a battery issue, or a charger issue? I have a third party charger from Amazon... But I'm confused as to why my laptop would still work when plugged in, so I'm thinking it might be the battery. Any help is greatly appreciated! (I've tried resetting SMC already, but no dice) [link] [comments] |
Unibody logic board & top case cross-compatibility Posted: 22 Feb 2018 08:55 PM PST So, I've got a late 2011 15" unibody MBP with an irreparable logic board. ("significant trace damage.") A buddy of mine has a mid-2012 15" unibody with a detached display. (not sure how this happened...) Assuming that whatever detached the display did not damage the display socket on the logic board, can I just drop the mid-2012 logic board into the late-2011 casing and be good to go? Actually, now that I'm thinking about it, is the top case cross-compatible, too? The keyboard on the late 2011 is a little wonky, and a replacement for that is unfortunately expensive, as well. In need of Iphone serial number! Posted: 22 Feb 2018 07:45 PM PST I broke my phones screen and it won't turn on, I wanted to send the phone to get it's screen fixed but you need the serial number. SO I tried to sign into my account on a computer and was told to enter the verification code... which was sent to my broken phone, the only other option was to text it to the same phone, SO I found the SIM card which doesn't have any serial number on it of course, and Since I have an iphone 7 the serial number isn't printed on the back and we still don't have the packaging. So... I'm screwed, right? [link] [comments] |
Trying to transfer some files from an ipad 2 running ios 6 Posted: 22 Feb 2018 07:40 PM PST I am not very familiar with apple devices so I don't really know how to go about this, there are some pictures as well as a few other files I would like to transfer to my PC. I tried just plugging it into my computer via the usb charging cable but the only folder (internal storage>DCIM) appears empty. [link] [comments] |
Entire folder suddenly empty out of nowhere! Posted: 22 Feb 2018 07:03 PM PST First of all, small backstory time: my mac just came back from being entirely wiped out at service, i had to re install many software i previously had and now need to search again on the internet. One of these was the paragon software, which mounts my external HDD, since i couldnt find my version anymore, i tried to pirate some software and by mistake ended up downloading mackeeper and adware, after uninstalling and cleaning it with malwarebytes, i ended up getting this software called Mounty for my HDD, which is free, i ended up not pirating anything. Anyways, today i opened my external HDD and browsed its contents, but after a few mins i noticed a corrupt file, i ignored it since it wasnt that important and kept browsing, suddenly i noticed a folder i previously browsed was still there, but had no contents at all, and afterwards another folder emptied all of its contents! The files just vanished into thin computer air. Them werent either on the trash nor hidden. I have lost around 40 gygabites on videos and photo memories, now i am afraid of connecting the HDD, can i recover my videos? What happened? Is it the virus? (Tho i thought i erased it?) I'm on a macbook pro running high sierra 10.3.2 [link] [comments] |

Can't boot Windows 10 anymore (iMac Pro + Boot Camp) Posted: 22 Feb 2018 02:25 PM PST Update: I'm starting Windows over. I removed /dev/disk0s3/4/5 and will try it all again. Successfully installed Windows 10. IT came over to add the machine to the domain while installing a few basic security applications. Everything seemed fine until a reboot eventually happened. When holding ALT to boot from a specific partition, both Windows and macOS are available. When choosing Windows, the Boot Recovery Assistant will load. I can still boot into macOS just fine. In macOS, the NTFS partition for Windows does not mount. Here's the partition scheme: One thing that may have caused this is that, when we first went to the Windows desktop, the Boot Camp driver installer came up. Instead of letting it install everything, we cancelled it and installed that later (even after a few successful reboots). It appears as though the 8GB partition (used to house the installer and Boot Camp drivers for Windows) still remains. Any recommendations? I might boot from a Windows 10 USB drive to see if any of its recovery options will work. [link] [comments] |
Touch button on iPhone 7+ vibrates spasmodically while charging. Posted: 22 Feb 2018 06:06 PM PST Touch button on iPhone 7+ vibrates incessantly if touched while charging, it just takes you to the task kill screen constantly, I'm using original and approved apple accessories and charger, any suggestions? I recently noticed this issue only occurs in my bedroom. I'm using the stock Apple charger so that couldn't be the issue. However, I believe the issue has something to do with the outlet being used. The reason I say this is because I can take the same charger and plug it into an outlet in the living room, the issue is gone. I also tried charging my phone from an Apple Store and couldn't reproduce the issue. Since I couldn't reproduce the issue at the store, it was difficult for an Apple employee to resolve the problem. Maybe there's an imbalance of electric current going into the phone that somehow is triggering the new nonphysical home button? [link] [comments] |

How do I tell what generation iPod I have? Posted: 22 Feb 2018 01:51 PM PST I found a guide on TheVerge to update the HDD on my iPod to flash memory (and change the battery at the same time), but it says it mostly only works for 5th/6th generation iPods. How do I know which one I have? I know it's a Video iPod, but that's about it [link] [comments] |
Can I use my Macbook as a device to share my location from on Find my Friends Posted: 22 Feb 2018 05:13 PM PST I'm using a Macbook Pro 2017 with macOS High Sierra and an iPhone 6 Plus with the update before the most recent one (iOS 11.2.6) I'm trying to share my location using Find My Friends from my Macbook but the only device available to share my location from is my iPhone. Is it possible to share my location through my Macbook? [link] [comments] |
iPod Touch 5 isn't charging anymore Posted: 22 Feb 2018 09:39 AM PST Hi, thanks for reading me. A few weeks ago my iPod started to have problems with the charging port, it only worked with ONE generic charger (I tried another ones generic too and one original but none of them worked). And well, It was ok, at least I had one that worked well, but I don't know why it started to bother me the fact that the original charger didn't work, so I tried to follow some tutorials on YouTube in which they insert toothpicks or needles to remove dust from inside the lighting port, I did that with both toothpicks AND needles and actually take out some dust, but GUESS WHAT, after that not even the generic charger I used, worked. So the iPod ran out of battery eventually and I hadn't a way to charge it. Then yesterday I took it to MacGeek (and "official" place where they fix apple devices) and today they told me it just needs a "cleaning and readjustment" procedure (I was already planning to take it to open the iPod and change the charging port with a friend, so this was a relief). BUT as you may know, the price is kind of high so I wanted to know if someone know what they mean with "cleaning and readjustment", is it a complicated procedure? can I do it myself? I've been searchig on YouTube cleaning procedures of the lighting port but all of them show people inserting toothpicks or needles inside the port and after how I screwed up things I wouldn't like to try that again. So... is there another way to clean and "readjust" the lighting port? [link] [comments] |
Pages is autocorrecting words before I'm done typing them. Posted: 22 Feb 2018 05:05 PM PST I just started using Pages on a new MBP with all the latest software updates. I've noticed that Pages is autocorrecting words before I'm done typing them, which always results in me typing the wrong thing. For example: I was trying to type the word "reassess." I typed "reas" and before I could type the rest of the word, it turned into "read," so I ended up with "readsess." I had not pressed Space or anything else to make Pages think that I was done typing the word. It only seems to be happening in Pages. I would rather not turn autocorrect off, but I need it to chill out a little bit. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 22 Feb 2018 04:32 PM PST Hello, I am trying to upload about 3000 photos to icloud. They show up on my phone but do not show up on my Mac. The photos app on Mac says it is uploading the photos but its been stuck at the same number of photos for the last 2 weeks. I re-booted my computer, paused and un paused but it still doesn't re-start the upload process. I've also checked that I have enough storage on my Mac and I do. I'm running the latest OS on a 2015 Macbook pro. Thanks for any help! [link] [comments] |
iPhone 6s stuck in boot loop, restore mode is asking for authentication code from iPhone Posted: 22 Feb 2018 03:29 PM PST So some jerk in class decided to send the Telugu character to the group chat (https://www.macrumors.com/2018/02/15/apple-telugu-bug-fix-minor-ios-update/) My messages app did not crash. My entire phone crashed, and kept crashing. I thought it had just crashed, but it was in a boot loop, so It's now drained. I tried to update from a relative's macbook pro as per https://www.addictivetips.com/ios/fix-iphone-boot-loop-from-the-telugu-character-bug/ It asked for the code sent to my iPhone, because I have Two Factor Authentication enabled. Obviously, this is out of the question. Is there any way to resolve this? Could I perhaps use someone else's icloud account (which doesn't have two factor authentication)? [link] [comments] |
Moving app from iPhone backup to iPad Posted: 22 Feb 2018 03:15 PM PST I have an iPhone 6 64GB that used to be at iOS 10.2.1 & an iPad Air 2 at iOS 8.1.2. Yesterday, a botched battery replacement at the Apple store made them update my phone to iOS 11 against my wishes & now 2 of my favorite apps are unusable. I have one (iFunny) still good on my iPad but the other (Photo Vault) is not. My iPhone had 15GB worth of pictures, GIFs, & videos saved in 4 separate albums inside so I need to move that app to my iPad. I moved iFunny from my iPad to my iPhone a year ago with iTunes & it worked fine, but I can't do it this time because the app i'm copying over has to be functional on the sending device but like I said, iOS 11 made Photo Vault inoperable. My iPhone backup & iPad both use the same version of iFunny & Photo Vault btw. I have used iExplorer to search the iPhone's last backup I made before taking it to Apple when it was on 10.2.1 & it has the app & pictures there, but accessing it on PC disorganizes the pictures & makes duplicates of them in th.jpg form. So here is what I want to ask here:
Please reply if you can answer any of these questions [link] [comments] |
iPhone X Battery percentage stuck Posted: 22 Feb 2018 08:31 AM PST Hey everyone, been facing this issue on my IPhone X (since11.2.5). My iPhone X battery percentage gets stuck while charging above 80%. If I start charging my phone at the very low percentage or below 80 it will charge normally, nothing wrong with that. But if I start to charge my phone at the high percentage (80 and above) the percentage will not increase as it should be. For example if I charge my phone at 85% it will stay at 85% whether how long I charge it (sometime it increase but incorrectly). The only way to see the actual percentage I need to reboot my phone In term of battery's life there's nothing wrong with that. I think it's more like a bug from the os. I already done stuffs like restore, reset all, erase all, or even went to the AASP and exchanged my iPhone X but this problem still happen to me. This time I went to the AASP again with my exchanged iPhone X, charging cable and wall adapter. This time AASP's staff told me that they have no idea what's going on with my phone. It might be new problem and they want me to use this phone until the new iOS update come out and if this problem still happen to me I can come the the AASP and do the exchange. But the problem is even I can go for the exchange but the process will take 7-10 days and they can not guarantee that this problem will be solved. At this point I decided to use my abnormal iPhone and wait for the next IOS update. I would appreciate it if somebody or anyone that related to this field can help me fix this problem, Thank you. HomePod Stuttering over Airplay Posted: 22 Feb 2018 02:19 PM PST I got a HomePod this weekend and I love everything about it except it starts to stutter wheneverI try to play anything besides apple music from my phone or try to airplay from my MBP. I took it to a friend's house and the airplay (SounCloud/Youtube/etc) worked fine there, but when I brought it back home airplay started to stutter again. Any ideas as to what I can do about fixing this? Is it my WiFi? [link] [comments] |
IMac High Sierra OS X 2017 5K won't boot up Posted: 22 Feb 2018 01:05 PM PST My brother installed something from Piratebay, which might have contained a virus. I restarted the Imac and now the IMac just stay on the booting up screen endlessly. The bar has reached the end it hasn't shown any signs apart from booting up. Posted: 22 Feb 2018 08:09 AM PST Macbook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Early 2015) macOS High Sierra (10.13.3) This started just recently. I noticed when I search for something on youtube, the page returns a walmart ad every other result. These are the only ads that come up because I'm using uBlock for Safari. At first I thought this was just a Safari issue, however when I did a Youtube search using Chrome I got the same ads. Also, a weird thing that happens is when I try using Google search, it will display the results for a second, then quickly redirect to the results on a Yahoo search. So maybe it's Google related? Other than these two issues my MacBook seems fine, but I don't know what to do about it. I tried searching for others with similar issues, but I couldn't find any with a circumstance as specific as mine. At this point I'm not even completely sure if it's a Mac related issue. Thanks for your help in advance. [link] [comments] |
Need help Setting up mail, calender and browser on snow leopard Posted: 22 Feb 2018 11:05 AM PST so, i bought a macbook pro '15 inch today for 80 bucks, still in really good state with a new battery in it. i am trying to setup my icloud and hotmail accounts in the mail app, but not succeeding and honestly need some help. the same is with calender. i also really like the browser, but the fact it's not going to show me youtube videos because it's outdated is quite annoying, especially because i'm a avid youtube viewer. are there any browsers out there that support snow leopard and allows me to watch youtube video's on them? i did manage to succeed in one thing: getting iWork to... Work.. a serial number on youtube did the trick. back on the day where 1 serial number could be activated multiple times. awesome where those days. still a bit further to go before making this my main laptop. would love it if you guys could give me tips, info, download links or websites to check out. final thing, before you ask, no, cannot upgrade to any of the new OS's. hardware specs: 2.16 Ghz Intel core Duo 2 GB RAM, 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM OS: MAC OS X 10.6.8 any help would be greatly apprichiated!
