My laptop charger just stopped working Posted: 15 Feb 2018 07:44 PM PST Was on my 2010 Macbook yesterday and it just stopped charging. I bought it two years ago in June. My sister's works on it though, so I'm using that as a spare. I tried plugging this into different outlets and such but it won't charge. Weirdest thing is, this happened in August. Same thing - Just stopped working right as I was using it. I put off buying another and used my sister's, until she asked me to finally buy a new one (after a month). I looked to buy a new one, tried this one once again just in case, and it worked suddenly. So I didn't buy a new one. But now it stopped working again. I don't know if I should wait another month and hope it starts again, or get a new one. Anyone have any thoughts or advice on how to get it working again? Edit: Charger has no fray or wear and tear. Looks brand new. [link] [comments] |
What was the shortcoming in this set up? Posted: 15 Feb 2018 02:56 PM PST Hey everybody. First I would like to say I appreciate any responses that you guys in my way. I'm unfamiliar with a lot of Apple, and I wanted to pick the brain of people who know more about it than me. My girlfriend works for a magazine, she had mentioned on several occasions that the design team has always been having problems with their network storage. I decided to come in with her one day and take a look at it. I do not know if this is something that is coming in the Apple ecosystem but what I saw totally blew my mind. So here is a little description of the setup. A Mac Mini late 2014 model. And two OWC Thunderbolt 2 6tb raid enclosures. Each raid enclosure was connected with a thunderbolt cable. Each enclosure was configured in a RAID 0. 1 enclosure was being used as the network share. The second enclosure was being used as the local redundant backup. In addition to this, offsite backup was being provided by using backblaze in a continuous update configuration. Here's a few of the complaints the design team told me. Opening the network share would sometimes result in a network resource is unavailable return. Attempting to open or save a file would sometimes result in the response that user did not have permission to do so, yet without any changes waiting a few moments then would allow. Also, sometimes saving a file would result in that file getting deleted. Looking at this setup really bothered me. I considered that it was horribly inefficient and drastically overpriced. The Raid enclosures cost $500 each, in addition to a brand new Mac Mini. I thought that was way too much wasted money. It was my belief that how the system was configured put a heavy workload on the hardware. Considering each file change had to be replicated three separate times, second, I felt that the NIC card on the Mac Mini was the primary bottleneck. My solution was to return the two$500 hard drives and build an actual NAS. Also freeing up the Mac Mini for use. I built a NAS because I am familiar with that and knew how to make it work correctly. I also felt that it was the more cost-effective means. But I still can't help but Wonder was there a configuration error or was it just a a bad system from the beginning? One of the reasons why I'm asking this is because this was actually installed by an authorized Apple resale company here in the city. They also came out to the location on three separate occasions in attempt to fix the problems. The NAS I installed has been working flawlessly since installation. So I don't think it was a network or user error. So it really has my brain thinking, and I can't help but wonder what the actual problem was. I appreciate any input and education on the matter. . Posted: 15 Feb 2018 09:24 PM PST Hi all, perhaps some of you remember me from a while back when I was having problems with a hard drive on a used Macbook. The situation has evolved since then and I'm now having to look into buying one on my own. I'm aware of how to install it and I have the correct tools, but I do have one question- so long as it's a 2.5" SATA HDD, is there any hard drive with those specs that may also have too large of a storage size (I'm looking at 1TB), too fast of a transfer speed (i.e. 3 GB/s) or too many RPM that it won't work in the Mid 2009 Macbook model? I apologise for my ignorance, but despite the time I spent looking, Google can't seem to give me any relevant info on this. I did find an old question on the Apple website from 2011 where they said that at the least, the storage size can't be too large- but it's 2018 now, and we have expanded capacities and faster hard drives, so I'm not sure that info is still accurate. Thanks again! [link] [comments] |
Iphone 7 Stuck in Bootloop after that crashing indian text character was sent to me? Posted: 15 Feb 2018 09:04 PM PST Hey Someone put that symbol in a groupme groupchat we had and everyones iphone was messed up, but after like 5-10 minutes it fixed itself. Except for my phone, it is still on the white logo, and I can sometimes get to the home screen but right after it goes black with the white loading symbol. What is the fix here? [link] [comments] |
All devices crashing at same time Posted: 15 Feb 2018 08:59 PM PST I have an iPad Pro, iPad Air 2 and iPhone 6. I mainly use my Pro and I went to go use it and it had the spinning wheel. I force shut it down, and now i'm getting the white apple startup page but it won't start up and won't shut down. I decided to use my Air 2 to research which I haven't used in months, when I started it up, the same thing happen. Then I noticed my phone keeps crashing with the spinning wheel, but I am able to use it but it will periodically crash and restart. It also won't turn off, if I shut down my phone it just keeps being the password page up without me touching it. I was not up to date on any of the ios. Does anyone know what this could be?!? Help! Some photos are not showing up in Photos, but they are appearing elsewhere. Posted: 15 Feb 2018 08:54 PM PST I recently downloaded 6 photos to be potential wallpapers for my iPhone 8+. Three of the photos are not showing up in my camera roll, but when I go to choose a photo in Settings > Wallpaper, they are all there. It's not a problem, exactly, because I can still access them from the wallpaper changing screen. But I would like to know why they're not showing up in my camera roll. I'm running the latest stable iOS, if that matters. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 15 Feb 2018 02:18 PM PST Hey guys I have a problem that I am hoping somebody could help me with. I am sorry for the long question but I literally just got the iPhone X like a week ago and I love it. When I first got it I already had a cable that was from a 3rd party source that worked on my old iphone and it worked just fine with the new X I just bought. For some reason though, today (after not having an issue with the cable or plug for a week) my X decided it didn't want to charge with it anymore which is confusing to me. It works with an apple charging cord but it won't with the 3rd party cord. So I guess I was wondering if anybody knew why this all of a sudden happened and knew how I could fix it. Thanks again guys! Does anyone have a good workaround to prevent PDF blurring in Preview in High Sierra? Posted: 15 Feb 2018 03:22 PM PST I have to give a presentation tomorrow, and I have the slides (as PDFs), but when I enter full-screen mode and switch from one slide to the next, the slide is blurred for a couple seconds before going back to normal. This bug has been discussed here before, but I didn't see any ways to get around it. Has anyone come up with some workarounds yet? [link] [comments] |
Transferring files from 3rd Gen iPad to 2017 -- can't do icloud. Posted: 15 Feb 2018 03:19 PM PST I'm a caregiver for a man with CP and only use Android for my own stuff. He bought a 2017 iPad to replace his old one (model a1416) for Xmas and wants to transfer his old data to the new one. I know this should be able to be done through icloud, however, nobody ever thought to write down his password, the recovery email he no longer has access to, and even logging out of his Apple account requires a password, so I can't even log into the old one with the new account we made. This all happened before I worked here, I have written down his new passwords going forward. The old one doesn't seem to have a port to plug things into besides the charger, and the ports look totally different. Is there a cable/cable + adapter we can purchase to get the files off? He has been nagging the staff about it since he bought it, and unfortunately we are all either bad at technology or Android devotees who don't know how Apple stuff works. Thanks for tips or help in taking care of this problem. [link] [comments] |

Posted: 15 Feb 2018 03:18 PM PST Hello, I was recently trying to check my email with the standard apple mail app on ios 11.2.5 but when I did it would not download my emails so I could read them. I have an iPhone 7 if that helps at all. I also have tried all of the troubleshooting steps on the apple support site and made sure my internet connection is connected and working. Hopefully you can help. Thanks! [link] [comments] |
Is there a way to get Finder to default to wider panes? Posted: 15 Feb 2018 12:57 PM PST I really like the "pane" view in Finder. However, many of my filenames are fairly long, and it's a bit annoying to just see a bunch of truncated names, particularly as the truncation tends to hide important bits of the filename. For instance my naming convention for correspondence documents is usually along the lines of "[date] [description] [name].[doctype]", so for example a typical filename might be "20180215 notice letter Smith.docx". Unfortunately Finder will tend to show this as "2018021...cx" which isn't very useful. Of course it's easy to fix at the moment, just drag the pane wider, but it basically resets to the narrow panes whenever I open a new window or even navigate to a different folder, and I navigate to many different folders every day. It gets tedious having to manually resize panes every few minutes. What I want is fairly simple: I'd like Finder to automatically expand the pane to be wide enough to show most of the files in the folder. It would be gravy if it was smart enough to stretch it only as much as needed (some folders are just full of dated folders which aren't very long names) but really I'd be happy if I could just get the default pane width adjusted to be enough for 20 characters or so in a filename. Is there a way to do this? [link] [comments] |

How to have two albums on iTunes with the same name? Posted: 15 Feb 2018 06:13 PM PST I download songs from youtube sometimes, and I downloaded the international version of High Voltage by AC/DC. However, I just learned that they have an australian version by the same name with different songs. How would I group the songs from the international and Australian version differently? Is it possible to change the iCloud email address supplied with your Apple ID? Posted: 15 Feb 2018 05:56 PM PST I have an ancient Apple ID from when there were still @me.com addresses. The problem is, I legally changed my name.... I have an @icloud.com alias added for my new name, and I use a third-party email address as my Apple ID, but I still have to look at my old firstname.last@me.com address all the time and I'm not a fan. I'd also not like to be connected to that name in any way. Is there any way I could remove or change this, or work with Apple to transfer all my purchases and content to a fresh new Apple ID with no links to my old name? [link] [comments] |
Will factory restoring really not allow me to sign out of my device? Posted: 15 Feb 2018 05:47 PM PST I've forgotten Apple ID PW (tried everything, asked Apple support. Please don't help troubleshoot this issue). I'd rather use a new Apple ID. However, I can't sign out of my iPhone 8 in order to sign into a new one, since I don't know the old ID's PW. I've been told a factory restore will not allow me to sign out (I want to essentially start the phone as new and sign in with a new Apple ID). A factory restore would still require I sign into my old ID with a PW. Is this true? [link] [comments] |
Apple id password lost, trusted phone number problem, help! Posted: 15 Feb 2018 05:28 PM PST Long story short, my dad gave me his IPhone 5. I'm trying to delete his apple id from it so that I can access my own, but the only way to remove his is by loging in with his password. Problem being, he's totally lost it. I've tried with Iforgot and all, but then I ran to another issue. Instead of asking me for the security questions for his account, or sending a confirmation to his email to change the password, it's only asking me for the trusted phone number, which he no longer has, either. I'm aware about the two-factor authentication, but he never set that up before, so there's no use. I'm rather angry at how Iforgot seems totally blocked and wont offer any other options. Please help people [link] [comments] |
Mini refuses to connect to WiFi router Posted: 15 Feb 2018 05:27 PM PST 2012 i5 Mini, Windstream dsl router. It was fine on Tuesday, but I rebooted yesterday and it refused to connect to the router. My home network shows up as an option, but when I select it it won't connect. No other devices on the network are having issues. I can even get online with the Mini by tethering it to my phone and using the phone's connection to the router, but the Mini refuses to connect to the router directly. Any ideas what I could do to fix it? Thank you for reading. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 15 Feb 2018 01:14 PM PST To change my Startup Disk name I accessed some settings by right-clicking on this area, I accidentally saved it after deleting a lot of vital information, resulting in this, where I can't authenticate anything. Can anybody help me change this back? Thank you! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 15 Feb 2018 04:43 PM PST Hi all, Installing VirtualBox for a client. They're putting Windows 10 on for some propriety software they need to run. Brand new Mac, fresh install running 10.13.3 I try and run the VirtualBox installer and it fails saying I need to provide an exception. Head on over to the system settings, unlock the make changes icon at the bottom with correct password. Click the ALLOW button and it just does nothing. It clicks but stays and if I try the installer again it still fails. I remove the mounted installer, click ALLOW again, then mount installer and try. Still fails. Does anyone have any suggestions? Does Apple keep record of old emails used for your Apple ID? Posted: 15 Feb 2018 12:19 PM PST I had an old Apple ID that I wasn't using and decided to get all of my information off of it and try to delete it. After getting all of my info off of it I changed the email address to a new one that I created. I sadly didn't write this email down thinking that they would email the new address to the old email address (stupid I know). Now a couple months later I started getting paranoid that I didn't delete everything off of it (I'm 99% sure that I did but my brain won't let it go). So now I don't remember the new email, is there any chance Apple could access my account with the old email I used for it? Or am I screwed and should just let it go? [link] [comments] |
Refurbished phone compatibility? Posted: 15 Feb 2018 11:43 AM PST I'm thinking of buying an unlocked, refurbished iPhone SE off of Amazon. I have a T-Mobile SIM card. Will I run into any issues if the phone was originally bought for Verizon, Sprint, etc? Is every single iPhone SE compatible with T-Mobile (GSM)? [link] [comments] |
