Posted: 01 Feb 2018 06:44 PM PST Title pretty much says it all. TeamSpeak released an update that fixes some bugs, but introduces a huge audio problem that breaks my workflow. I have the older version on my 5S, and need a way to transfer it over. So far I haven't been able to do this. iMazing has an app copy feature, but that seems to only copy the app's configuration, rather than the app itself. Suggestions are welcome. [link] [comments] |
Will El Capitan run fine on a USB stick connected via USB 1.0? (Macbook Mid 2009) Posted: 01 Feb 2018 07:18 PM PST Hi, update on my last thread if you were helping me with it- I downloaded El Capitan today from the App Store (And it IS compatible with my Macbook), but my hard drive is borked (Still no clue how except that the person who refurbished the computer somehow failed at erasing and partitioning it), and the installer won't even highlight the hard drive to install the new OS X to it. I did delete the Time Machine plist as per another user's suggestions (And saved a copy of the old one), but now on Time Machine, the hard disk doesn't show up, at all, period. My jump drive still does, however. I have no external hard drive at the moment, but I have a jump drive big enough to install El Capitan to it. The problem is that my Macbook is from Mid 2009, so the ports are all USB 1.0, and all suggestions I have read said that if I don't have USB 3.0 or up, I'll see performance issues running an OS from the drive. I'm not sure how true this is, and I'm not sure if it would hurt to try, anyways (Since I can just press Option while turning on the computer and then boot back into my Lion hard disk if El Capitan isn't working out for me, or at least I gather that's how it works.) Sorry for all the problems I've been posting lately, I'd just really like to try to get this figured out and install to the newest OS X that my system can run, since I can't run a lot of things on Lion (i.e. Skype and Spotify.) Thanks! [link] [comments] |
Possibly recurring malware in chrome on my 2013 macbook pro I'd like to stop for good. Posted: 01 Feb 2018 02:47 PM PST Hello, some background of my issue is that about 1.5-2 months ago chrome started opening new tabs to advertisements when I clicked around while browsing. I believe a new extension was added to chrome masked as Google Drive. I used "Adware Doctor" from the App store to scan/delete/restart and it seemed to fix any issues. Today something similar happened, and I used Adware Doctor again to stop the new tabs. My only remaining issue is knowing whether the extensions in my chrome are legit or not. Or, if I had unknowingly downloaded a virus again. The extensions left in chrome after the restart I just did are as follows: Application Launcher for Drive by Google, Docs, Google Docs Offline, Sheets, and Slides. Could any of these extensions be the malicious file? Or automatically added to Google Chrome? I'm hoping to get rid of this for good. My laptop is old and maybe starting to slow because of this. Thank you anyone that can help, any suggestions are welcome. [link] [comments] |
Trying to find the patches and sound driver for windows 7 64 bit for macbook pro mid 2009 Posted: 01 Feb 2018 05:59 PM PST I put a SSD in my macbook pro mid 2009 laptop and installed windows 7 from disk fresh, it works fine and I have the graphics driver, I was also able to find the audio driver(although i think its wrong, but well, it works and makes sound nicely so I guess it must be right, it just wasnt realtek like i thought it should be) and I got all the other drivers, but I have this annoying thing that says "consider replacing your battery" that I don't get in mac os, which suggests i need the system management controller, but I don't know where to get it. basically the SMC is not reading the battery properly, it says it charges fine though it just will turn off at 70% instead of at 0% like in el capitan the audio driver i'm using works, but, i can't tell if its supposed to. it mutes my sound whenever I boot up but when i unmute it works usin the cirrus sound driver [link] [comments] |
Apps on iPhone Cannot See Photos Synced Via iTunes Posted: 01 Feb 2018 05:36 PM PST I synced my PC and iPhone 7 Plus using iTunes so that I can get all my PC photos onto my iPhone. It worked wonderfully. The only issue I have is, my iPhone apps cannot actually see the photos that I have synced. I can only see the photos in the Photos app. Google Photos and Snapseed cannot see said photos. Is there something else I should have done while syncing? [link] [comments] |
Issues with starting my late 2013 MacBook Pro Retina Posted: 01 Feb 2018 01:39 PM PST This might be long, so sorry about that, I just want to include what all my errors and issues, as well as what I've already tried. Model: MacBook Pro 15" Retina Late 2013 OS: OSX High sierra So, this issue has been persistent for the last month or so. In the beginning, my mac wouldn't turn on or anything. I bought a screwdriver and opened it, unplugged and re plugged the battery, as a forum suggested this would fix it. Now I could finally boot my mac again, but more issues would come to life. I've backed up all my stuff (i think), so I'm ready to factory reset the damn thing, IF I just can figure out how. Launching it normally will take me to the login screen, which then loads for about 3/4 of the bar, then turns off. I then have to reset the SMC to get it to launch again. I've tried launching it in safe mode (shift + power), which causes an endless load on the last pixel of the bar on the login screen, then stays there for about 3-4 hours, then just turns off. I have to reset the SMC again (which basically I have to do every time it turns off) I've tried launching it in solo mode, which gave me an error code on a black screen, then takes me to the login screen, then a bunch of code appears on black again, before shutting off again. I've tried launching it in web recovery (alt+cmd+r) which lets me connect to my wifi, then a loading bar appears, and randomly shuts off while this is loading. I've tried launching it in recovery mode (cmd+r), and tried about everything here. Normal reinstall my OS X took me to a apple id login screen, which then gave me an error. Some guy online said to set the date to the current through the terminal, and then do csrutil enbale and csrutil clear, which I did, but now instead of getting to the login to apple id screen, when i choose the disk to install the OS on before the apple id screen appears, it loads for a while, then shuts off. (and when i say "shut off" at every point mention above, i mean go to black, as it might not actually shut off, but the screen goes black and i can't do anything). I've tried repairing the disk through disk utility, no luck here either. I haven't used Time Machine either, so I don't have any earlier access points to recover to - unfortunately :( I'm really stuck, and not to keen on taking it to the apple store, as I am both a stubborn guy who wants to fix it myself, and I'm afraid I have to cash out for something that might be fixable on. my own. If i don't find any fixes here, I will of course go, as it's probably a fair share cheaper than to buy a new one. Any tips or help is greatly appreciated. As I said, I'm ready to reinstall the whole shabam if I find a way! [link] [comments] |
Does this look like a keylogger to you? I have no idea what this is. Posted: 01 Feb 2018 04:08 PM PST So I noticed the other day when I had many tabs oppen that suddenly a little square at the top of my screen started including almost everything I typed (in MSWord or Chrome, both ended up there). It's also odd because I can highlight it. Here's an image. https://imgur.com/a/TJwsm Has anyone had this issue before? Any idea how I should proceed? Thanks [link] [comments] |
Posted: 01 Feb 2018 10:09 AM PST Yesterday morning, instead of turning on, my Mac Mini got stuck on the Apple Logo. The progress bar went to 99.9 % and then froze. Since then I have:
To summarize, the only thing I can get to is Disk Utility, which reports no problems. I don't have anything to restore from as my Time Capsule stopped working about a month ago. Any advice? edited to correct bullet formatting and typos [link] [comments] |
Changing the country of your Apple ID - will everything it mess up everything Posted: 01 Feb 2018 03:58 PM PST Basically, I just moved from Denmark to Switzerland, and I tried to change the country of my Apple ID accordingly. Besides the obvious pros, being generally cheaper apps in the Swiss App Store, and being able to use a Swiss credit card in the App Store. Apart from that, certain Swiss Apps are only available in the Swiss App Store. I currently have a subscription for Apple Music, and an iCloud storage option, shared with my fiancé who is still living in Denmark. I was trying to change the country earlier today, but I was told that I had to cancel my Apple Music subscription, and wait until the subscription period ends (which is on Tuesday). But then, do I also need to cancel my iCloud storage? I also have a yearly subscription for Infuse, do I need to cancel that as well, and end till October for that? And the obvious question being, how does it affect my fiancé, since we have family sharing? Maybe, what I'm most interested but, is adding a Swiss card to Apple Pay - is that totally irrelevant to the country of my Apple ID? I really appreciate your help! Things are not totally clear online, and I can't possibly the only person with this issues [link] [comments] |
Apple Watch system apps won’t install even after a full restore Posted: 01 Feb 2018 03:16 PM PST I restored my Apple Watch and set it up as new. Now most of the system apps won't install or open. They just hang on the "install" icon. I have tried restoring multiple times and no luck. It's on watchOS 4.2 and my phone is an iPhone 7 Plus on iOS 11. Any advice? [link] [comments] |
Phone keeps triggering voice text/record. Posted: 01 Feb 2018 03:16 PM PST I have a IPhone SE and when ever I am... listening to music (when I notice it most, happens when not but less of an issue) and I open phone to send a message, I put my phone back in my pocket and the motion or something makes the phone think that I should be recording to send. This drives me nuts! How can I fix it? [link] [comments] |
Tiny screen shot image on bottom right corner...can't get it to go away! Posted: 01 Feb 2018 03:15 PM PST EDIT: SOLVED I took a screen shot of a chart (using command-shift-4), and it saved to my desktop as normal. I used imgur to share it. Now, the image has become a tiny screen shot icon that I can't interact with on the bottom right hand corner of my screen. I can't click on it or delete it, and it appears on top of whatever screen I am currently working on. I have a MacBook Pro 13-inch 2017 model running HighSierra 10.13.2. 2.3 ghz intel core i5 and 8 gb memory. HELP. :( Screenshots: https://imgur.com/a/DhdZD and https://imgur.com/a/VcjF8 [link] [comments] |
Late 2006 iMac not booting to desktop after install of Snow Leopard Posted: 01 Feb 2018 03:12 PM PST I created a usb stick with a .dmg snow leopard file/iso on it and booting from the external disk drive (which was failing to install snow leopard from the disc) to get into the installer where I could see the usb drive plugged in. From there I went to disk utility to confirm if it saw the usb drive (it did) and so I proceeded to install snow leopard from the usb drive. After the install (which seemed to go just fine and dandy) I unplugged the external disk drive and usb drive and restarted. But on boot up it just took me to the installer again. Seems I've made good progress but I'm stuck in an infinite loop. Not sure what I did wrong and the erase options for the Sata III 120GB ssd are greyed out now. Plus When I try to reinstall I get "You can't upgrade this version of Mac OS X....Mac OS X couldn't be installed on this disk." This might be because the installer is pointing to the usb flash drive as the target for the install and not the internal new ssd. Weird. Also when I reboot without the disc or usb drive connected the installer appears and where it says "Select disk where you want to install Mac OS X" there's nothing in the box to select. It doesn't seem to be seeing the ssd. And yet it seems I was able to install the snow leopard .dmg on the ssd. Lastly, when I try to use disk startup to startup from the usb, I can select the usb but the computer will boot up from the hard drive anyway. Starting up choosing the snow leopard disc in the external drive freezes sporadically. The good news is I can boot to the installer or disk utility without issues now any time I want. I took pictures of where it gets stuck and what disk utility is showing me: https://imageupload.co.uk/image/EplJ https://imageupload.co.uk/image/EplE https://imageupload.co.uk/image/Epl4 https://imageupload.co.uk/image/EplT https://imageupload.co.uk/image/Epl0 https://imageupload.co.uk/image/EplR Listed hardware: https://imageupload.co.uk/image/Epld Any suggestions? Is repairing a dead iPad Air 2 worth it? Posted: 01 Feb 2018 10:45 AM PST I was gifted an iPad Air 2 a couple of years ago for college. I had it in a minimalist type case, but the screen was cracked pretty badly about a year after I bought it. I still used it, and last year, I considered repairing the screen. When I went to a third party shop, the gentleman told me that it wasn't worth repairing because the costs of repairing were suddenly higher as Apple was using the iPad Air 2 screen for newer models, so essentially the parts were in demand and still more expensive. I was so upset because I was intentionally waiting to fix it, so the price to repair would go down. Anyways, about a couple months later, I took my iPad out of my backpack and there was slight moisture on it. In other words, it wasn't directly wet, but I believe rainwater for outside seeped between the case and the iPad, and through the cracked screen, got it wet. After that, the screen wouldn't turn on, but when plugged into my Macbook, it was recognized. I assume something inside is fried, but I was wondering, is it worth getting it and the screen repaired? Is Apple repair outside warranty worth it, it's so expensive, and in the years I've been waiting for the price to go down, 300 dollars is still a lot for me. [link] [comments] |
how to add custom ringtones in High Sierra? Posted: 01 Feb 2018 02:27 PM PST I've followed the instructions here (Apple discussions) and here (Cult of Mac), and neither of them work. Maybe I'm doing something wrong? I enjoy making perfectly looping ringtones out of song snippets, so this is kind of a bummer for me. I know how to turn an audio file into an .m4r file, and I can drag & drop it onto my phone in iTunes — the problem is that the file never shows up as a ringtone on iTunes or on my phone. Posted: 01 Feb 2018 02:26 PM PST So today for some reason when sent I my contact a text message it did not get sent as an iMessage. When she replied I did not recieve her text since it went to my mac. I can send this contact an iMessage from my mac and I can send my other contacts an iMessage through my phone but for some reason I can't send this person an iMessage through my phone. I would really appreciate any suggestions on how to fix this issue. [link] [comments] |
My iPhone stopped syncing with my work calendar Posted: 01 Feb 2018 10:05 AM PST So we use iMacs at work and schedule everything on a shared apple calendar. There was a time a few months ago where my phone was synced to it so I could see and plan things out. Well as of just a few months ago my phone would only sync partial information from the work calendar. Now it just doesn't sync at all. I'm not sure what I can do to fix it and don't want to screw up the work calendar. What could be happening and how Can I fix it? Other detail, I have an iPhone 8 plus. Thanks [link] [comments] |
Posted: 01 Feb 2018 09:36 AM PST My Fn key has started behaving strangely. Basically, the first combination use (Fn + Del or Fn + an arrow key) operates as only the primary key, but from the second attempt it works normally. Every window switch seems to reset the problem. So instead of page down I move down a row, or instead of forward delete I get a backspace. For the arrows that isn't so bad, but deleting a character in the wrong direction is annoying. This started happening a couple weeks ago. It happens in all applications. It happens to all users (I created a brand new user to test with and it still happened). No external input devices. I'm stumped. Any guesses of what to look at? Macbook Pro Mid-2010 (I'd happily upgrade but it just won't die!) How do I get rid of these iCloud icons in Launchpad? Posted: 01 Feb 2018 07:02 AM PST I remember doing something on my Windows PC so that these iCloud shortcuts show up on my windows desktop to help make it easier to access these on my windows pc, but they ended up on my mac in launchpad, even after a full system restore. How can I get rid of them? They dont show up in the Applications folder, nor is there an "X" when I hold down OPTION, nor can I drag them into the trash? Any ideas? [link] [comments] |
Crappy frames and terrible screen resolution? Posted: 01 Feb 2018 12:37 PM PST |
Posted: 01 Feb 2018 11:56 AM PST I have a 128GB 7 plus which has had problems with the microphone not working during facetime and speakerphone calls. The problem seemed to develop after an iOS update about a month after purchase and normal use. It had been a minor inconvenience, but not a huge problem, so I held off on taking it in for repair, as there is no Apple Store within 60 minutes of my location. Last week, I finally broke down and took it to an authorized repair shop (Simply Mac), who ran diagnostics and did a cleaning, however the issue persisted. They said my best bet for repair would be to send it in to Apple. I sent a ticket to apple and sent it back in their packaging after a software wipe. When I sent the phone in, everything was functional safe for the mic problem stated above. A few days later, I received a message from Apple saying the repair would not be covered (no notice as to why) and to call them regarding options. Over the next week, I spent about 4 hours on the phone with a representative who stated that she wasn't sure why the repair was rejected, but that it could only be overturned by "The Engineers." An appeal was sent and rejected and I was notified that my phone was being returned. I received the phone today, along with a notice that the repair was rejected due to "unauthorized modifications." I'm not sure what that means. I've made no modifications to the phone in any way unless application of a case and a ZAGG glass face shield count as modifications. I've only ever installed app store apps, and while I know jailbreaking an iphone is possible, I've never done it and have no desire to do so. HERE'S THE KICKER: Now that the phone is back in my hands, it seems that the home button is nonfunctional. When I boot the phone up, it goes to the setup screen and asks me to "push the home button" to proceed, however home button pushes do not register. So, I've gone from a phone with a minor inconvenience to a nonfunctional product, and now I'm sure the device is flagged as non-repairable in Apple's system. I paid cash for the device (at Best Buy), so no credit card warranty. Additionally, I deregistered the device from Verizon when I sent it in for repair (bought an 8 plus and was planning on passing on the 7 plus to my teenage child), so no carrier warranty either. Any recourse from here, or am I just hashed? As you can imagine, I'm pretty salty about Apple at this point - I've bought 3 iphones in the past year, as well as a MBP and iMac, but now I'm seriously reconsidering ever buying from them again. Thanks in advance... [link] [comments] |
Can a user login cause a hard drive to fail? Posted: 01 Feb 2018 11:27 AM PST One of my users just had their hard drive replaced by Apple. Initially when they brought it up to us, it couldn't detect the hard drive to when trying to run a fresh install on it. Ran diagnostic, couldn't detect it. Apple store tech couldn't pick it up via diagnostic on their end. So they replaced the hard drive. I set up everything for it to connect to our AD. Everything worked fine. For my AD creds and the local user I created. When I handed it off to the user, they login everything seem fine. I get a message shortly after the hand off, he tried to boot it up from sleep mode and it's unresponsive, the static screen is shown and you can hear the fans revving. Have to do a hard reset. Upon the rest you get the folder question mark icon. Then another reboot it'll be fine. I've since had the MacBook back on my desk and trying to replicate it without any luck. On the other hand, the 5 minutes of what they showed me was the issue, it was recreated. Only difference was it was on his login. The loaner they are working on has no problem with their AD creds. Posted: 01 Feb 2018 11:12 AM PST Hi guys. I was test driving an android phone. Using an android app Sync for ICloud which basically brought over my contacts from iCloud to the droid. Anyway. I wanted to remove the contacts from the droid so I deleted all. I think I deleted the iCloud sync app too late since 90% of my contacts disappeared from my iPhone. Are the contacts still in the iCloud? I didn't see a "deleted" folder anywhere. Can I restore the contacts somehow ? I do have an iCloud backup of the phone but it's a PIA to go thru it. I have a MacBook at home. Maybe I can somehow copy the contacts back to iCloud? Not sure if the contacts will be wiped the moment I open my MacBook and it connects to the internet. Thank you.
