I have a 2011 MBP that died on me last year – far as I can tell, the logic board fried, but the optical drive should still be fine. I have some CDs I'd like to rip, and rather than buy a SuperDrive for north of 100 bucks, want to know if there's any housing I can buy to salvage the optical drive, the same way I bought a housing for its HDD and am using that as a spare external hard disk. | How do I load an OS to a new hard drive? (2011 13” MBP) Posted: 19 Feb 2018 09:54 PM PST So after my original drive crashed, I took it to the Apple store—where an employee ran diagnostics and confirmed the bad drive. So then I bought a ssd, installed it and booted it in recovery. I tried to click the "reinstall mac os x" option but it ended up with an error box and failed to do anything. Now when I'm in the utilities tab, I can't select any of the options (restore from time machine, etc...)—the 'continue' button doesn't pop up. Any ideas? I'm pretty noobish with this whole computer surgery thing. [link] [comments]  |

Posted: 19 Feb 2018 05:44 PM PST My friend is trying to get the mobile PUBG app on their phone but for some reason they receive an error when selecting none as a payment method. I was wondering if I could provide them with the Chinese apple ID used so that they could download and then log out without encountering any problems. | Apple Retail Interview Break Down (Help) Posted: 19 Feb 2018 09:20 PM PST I have applied for Apple retail throughout the South Florida area. I have applied for the retail locations four times. I have someone refer me to there store, get through the first interview step (group interview), and I always make it to the second interview, and ultimately receiving the no offer generic email. I use to work for Apple Care through a third party. The advice I typically get is be yourself, focus on customer service, and show your compassion for Apple Products. If there is a current or old hiring manager, advisor, and or someone that knows the whole hiring process and willing to break it down for me step by step. I would gladly appreciate the steps. What are the managers looking for keywords, attire, because I am shaking my head as of now. Someone Help ! Thank you. Hopefully this could be helpful to other individuals who are seeking to understand why they're not getting hired for Apple retails. I'm going a little crazy trying to figure out what should be a simple setup and would love your thoughts. I've come to understand that it should absolutely be possible to use my 2013 27" iMac in target display mode provided the connected PC has a DisplayPort. However, after purchasing a DisplayPort to Mini DisplayPort cable I've had no such luck. hitting CMD+F2 does nothing. The PC is an HP Omen with a GTX 1080Ti graphics card. Has anyone used a similar setup? I realize that it'd be ideal to use a mini display to mini display connection but isn't it the exact same thing? [link] [comments]  |

Posted: 19 Feb 2018 08:32 PM PST I have sierra (10.12.5) installed on a 64gb flash drive that I want to use for a few updated apps that mavericks (10.9.5) can't run...will it affect mavericks at all if I install those sierra updates? My mac is a mid 2010 17" macbook pro. Potentially silly question, but I want to make sure my mavericks drive will still boot after any newer security/efi updates since logic 9 and some of my music libraries won't run on sierra! | Posted: 19 Feb 2018 07:36 PM PST I have an iPhone 5 that is several years old. It sometimes turns off randomly saying that it has no battery and then I press the power button and it turns on again. This has happened to me several times. Today it turned off when it was at 24%. I pushed the power to turn it on again and it did not work. When I plugged it in, it turned on in about a minute. The weird thing about this is that it went from 24% to over 40%. Does anyone know why this happens? Has it happened to anyone else? Is there any way to prevent it from happening? | Audio distortion on my headphones Posted: 19 Feb 2018 07:17 PM PST Hello all, I've had this issue for a while now but it hasn't really had a huge effect before now, so I haven't tried to do anything about it. So what happens is that when someone calls/FaceTimes me and the notification shows up on my macbook, the ringtone is perfectly fine, but if I had like a video playing when I received the call, the audio from the video sounds like it's playing through a tunnel and the audio quality is super poor. This wasn't really an issue because I'd either pause the video to answer the call (where the audio would be fine) or I'd decline the call and the video audio would go back to normal. I just got into the beta for GeForce Now (the Nvidia thing) and when I try to play games on that program, the game audio is bad like it is in the situation above. Is this an OSX thing done on purpose for some reason, and is it something I can change? I gotta get those Fortnite dubs and it's harder when the audio is really bad. Thanks for reading!! | Constant activity circle in status bar Posted: 19 Feb 2018 07:05 PM PST iPhone 8+, iOS 11.2.5 I've recently noticed my data activity indicator is (almost) always circling. I've shut off cellular data for every app and it's still doing it. I've noticed at the bottom of the Settings>cellular there is the "system services" and they are always rising. Is there a way to shut those off, or is anyone else having this issue? | Cinema 20" (a1081) not working Posted: 19 Feb 2018 06:50 PM PST So I purchased this display along with a power Mac G5 for $100 from a local classified. My plans for the G5 are to turn it into a Hackintosh using somewhat modern hardware but that's a post for another time. Right now, my main issue is with the display. It uses DVI. When plugged in to the G5, the LED lights up and stays solid. The USB hub works fine. However the screen is black. I know the G5 works, I tested it on a Dell ultrasharp monitor and it worked no issues, so the issue must be with the monitor. I also tried it on two PCs, my custom built gaming/editing rig and a Dell XPS 435t, it didn't work with either machine, however when plugged into the PC's (that were powered on and outputting display since I had them connected via DVI to two monitors) the LED on the cinema display started blinking, three short blinks. At least I presume they're short, I have no point of reference since they're all the same length. At first, I managed to get the display to output when connected to the Mac, however it only stayed on for half a second and then shut down and did not come up again. [link] [comments]  |
| Posted: 19 Feb 2018 06:16 PM PST hi! i posted this on r/apple and it told me that this is an easily searchable question but ive looked all over google and tried everything so im posting here.. lol :'( me and my boyfriend are LDR so we watch a lot of videos together over the phone. we call each other with facetime audio. when i was on iOS 10 the call volume would be a little louder than the video volume so if we talked to each other we could hear each other. also if i opened another app and there was volume, it was quieter than him so i could still hear him. after updating to iOS 11 not to long ago the phones volume and the call volume is the same, almost most of the time the videos seem louder than him. if i open up a game the audio comes on really loud and i can hardly hear him. ive tried this with the normal phone app too and not just facetime and it does the same + call quality isnt as nice. is there a fix to this? i really miss how the audio in facetime used to sound. :( if you need to ask anymore questions to try to help me please do.. thank you... It is stuck in the apple logo white screen. I have inserted my SIM in an android device and deleted the whatsapp chat, but it is still stuck. I have tried the home+lock button combo but it's still stuck. iTunes does not detect it to enter the recovery options. Any help? Going on a trip on thursday so it is a bit urgent. Thanks! | Don't know which number used for two step authentication Posted: 19 Feb 2018 04:28 PM PST I setup an account for my dad a few month ago and everything was fine, we didn't activate two step authentication then. Now there is a problem with the account, so I tried to access Icloud from the bowser but it requested the code from a phone number that I Don't recognize at all, I looked through my contacts but I could not find an number that matches the last two numbers that Apple give to tell you which number have been used for two step authentication. I'm pretty sure I had it registered to me. How would I go about ensuring that the serial number on the device is no longer registered to my name/associated with my account? Does that even matter? Guessing this isn't anything like transferring the title of a car, but still, I'd like to make sure everything is all lined up when I make the sale so that it's not under my name anymore. | MacBook Pro 2012 High Sierra Update Filevault Posted: 19 Feb 2018 03:25 PM PST Hi all, Just a quick question. I've done some browsing but haven't seemed to find the solution I'm looking for. I just recently updated my MacBook up to High Sierra on a fresh SSD that was formatted correctly and all that jazz. At the moment however the laptop is hanging and I'm getting that spinning icon and I'm almost sure it's because of the Filevault encryption. It's a new SSD with nothing but the OS on it but it says it has 6 hours left. Would FileVault be causing this and has anyone experienced the same? Is there any way to turn of Filevault while it's encrypting? It took an age to download and install High Sierra as it was don't want to have to do it again. 2012, 8GB RAM, i5, 120GB SSD. | Three pairs of earbuds, all with the same issue!! Posted: 19 Feb 2018 03:09 PM PST I have three pairs of EarPods, (just the OG wired ones), and all three have the same issue. One of the earbuds (left or right) puts out a negligible amount of volume compared to the other one which is normal. AppleSupport wants me to ship a pair back so they can repair them and I use their loaner set and the whole process would cost $20 and take multiple weeks. | Posted: 19 Feb 2018 08:52 AM PST I have an iPad mini (I think it was on ios 9.3.5) The ipad mini is stuck on Apple logo, can't restore it. I can't go in recovery mode, DFU mode worked but restore failed - The screen was stuck on blue(ish) color, and I had to hard reset the device in order to get back to apple logo / dfu. I thought maybe to was on criticaly low battery, charged for 24hours when it was on apple logo with original iPad charger, and also tried charging on dfu mode with original iPad charger. The device was never opened, all parts are original. iTunes did not give error code after restore faliled, tried switching cables and usb ports and different computers, nothing worked. | Constant swirly symbol appearing after being sent a strange symbol Posted: 19 Feb 2018 02:49 PM PST I don't know if anybody coming across this, but a person I know on Android found a set of symbols which make iPhones either crash the app they are on or makes there phone keep restarting, my phone is immune to it however my other friends is not So we have friend A,B and me,C. So friend C is sent the symbol and is fine, my app crashes but is fine. Then friend B is sent it by friend A who is on Android and it crashes his phone and now it keeps restarting. I was sent it on snapchat, he was sent it on instagram. He asked me too right this since every time he goes on an app and then exits it, his phone restarts.
