iOS Jailbreak [Discussion] [Rant] I wish Patreon was never made

[Discussion] [Rant] I wish Patreon was never made

    Posted: 29 Jan 2018 09:26 PM PST

Don't get me wrong, the concept is amazing. People can run subscriptions. What I hate is that now more and more developers are turning to this utterly crap site to sell their tweaks. They can absolutely sell access to a tweak through PayPal or another method, but the only advantage Patreon provides is more money for the developer and choking the consumers for more money. Leaving a "keep paying or get lost" attitude. This is completely different from a "pay once and let me iron out this cool tweak" from years ago. Developers have started becoming stingy as Uncle Sam collecting your money from a late payment on your car. Tweaks that are literally ten to fifteen lines of code are being put to Patreon solely exploiting that the user has no "one stop store" installer to turn to. Effectively making Patreon a monopoly. Then you have ReformX. Oh, ReformX, how you were absolutely slaughtered right out of the gate because you were hosted on that money grubbing site. $3 for a Tweak WITH ADS. $5 for without ads? A tweak that simply changes some values of padding and icon rows? Something another developer can make in a week easily? What kinda joke is this? Just look at the thread. There's like, one dude trying to put forth this new payment system while ALL of the other users are defending the old payments and how they used to be. People say "it'll stop when Cydia gets updated". You think it will? Look how fast it's spreading. I can count three devs who switched to this trash in a week's time. It won't stop. The new excuse will be "well now I get supported to keep updating it" while effectively screwing over the end users who don't want to keep paying every month. I'm not sure who started this movement, but I'm sick of it. It's effectively destroying the jailbreak community and most of us hate it. It's on every. Single. Thread. That a tweak is released on this site. It's very clear that the highest votes are those against Patreon rather than for it. The only reason developers would use this site instead of an alternative "give me PayPal and I'll give you the tweak", is to grind more moola out of the users. That's it. Yet so many people are dumb enough to defend it because they treat developers like gods and they're untouchable. Like, setup theos and slap together a few %hooks and change some values of icons and bam. You're a developer that can charge $5 a month according to your logic! This site just has to stop.

[Discussion] Is it possible that S a u r i k has run into a problem that he is unable to solve regarding substrate? In his last post he said he was almost done - but it seems to be taking longer than he was implying.

I know I'm gonna get some responses like "he only releases polished finished products and is working hard to make it perfect". Maybe so, but maybe he can't make it perfect because of some problem he is unable to solve? Coolstar has pumped out so many updates to improve Electra in such a short time. I imagine Saurik is even more capable than him in this regard. A quick update on his work would be nice, but whatever. Electra is great in the meantime

[Request] Tweak that informs you when microphone/camera are activated

    Posted: 29 Jan 2018 06:37 PM PST

I suppose this would be fairly simple to make, I'm not sure how I would go about to doing it though.

Someone could potentially use SendTestBulletin to send a notification when the camera or microphone are activated I suppose.

This would be pretty useful in my opinion, I use a tweak called ProtectMyPrivacy at the moment and it allows many cool features, and I can't count how many times Safari would have taken my phone number without my permission if I didn't have the tweak.

[Update] Safari Plus 1.4 (+ limited Release for Electra)

    Posted: 29 Jan 2018 09:02 AM PST

Hey everyone, I reworked Safari Plus for better iPad support, fixed some crashes on 10.3.x and also made the tweak fully compatible with iOS 11.

    Full changelog:

    Improvements / Fixes:

    • General:
      • Support for iOS 10.3.x, iOS 11 & iPhone X
      • Various design flaws regarding Split View on iPad have been fixed
      • Replaced all remaining third party icons with my own and therefore removed credits
      • Changed license to GNU
      • Probably much more that I can't remember
    • Desktop Mode
      • Rewritten, now works 100% reliable across all supported iOS versions
    • Enhanced Downloads:
      • Better handling of unknown file sizes
      • Better position of download alert on iPads
      • Status bar notification system rewritten from scratch (before I was using a third party library), should be much better now

Note: Cephei 1.11.3 seems to be broken (causes safe mode whenever preferences get loaded), please stay on 1.11.2 for now.

I have also made a more limited version that should work with Electra. You can download it here.

    Install Instructions:

    1. Unzip file
    2. Merge the bootstrap folder with the one on your device
    3. Respring

    Limitations:

    • Only works with Electra B8 and higher
    • Preferences only (re)load after closing Safari from app switcher and relaunching it (No Cephei)
    • Downloads only work into Safari's sandbox container, therefore your path choices are pretty limited. (Default path has therefore been moved into /var/mobile/Containers/Data/Application/<Safari UUID>/Documents/Downloads)
    • Desktop button state will not persist after Safari is restarted
    • Push notifications for finished background downloads will not work (No rocketbootstrap / libbulletin)
    • Color settings are not available (No libcolorpicker)

EDIT (IMPORTANT): Currently there is no default 'fallback' for the preferences, so if they are never changed once, they don't exist in the plist and that might cause issues with some options like the long press on suggestions option (This is probably the only one, but I'm not sure). To solve this, go through the preferences and change everything at least one time (e.g. set long press duration to 1.0 and then back to where you want it to be).

A lot of work has went into this update, if you still find an issue, don't hesitate to contact me either via reddit pm or via email.

If you like this tweak, consider donating.

KarenPrefs 1.2 has been submitted to the BigBoss default repository, but will take ~24 hours before it appears there.

Changelog for 1.2 [changelog for all versions]

    Short Introduction to KarenPrefs

    Works on iOS 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, and 11. Has arm64 support.

KarenPrefs is a library that provides various conveniences and enhancements for developers seeking to create preference bundles for their iOS tweaks.

I originally wrote KarenPrefs back in 2013 for use with my tweak mikoto, but only thought about open-sourcing it recently, since I've found it rather useful (especially for when I need to show/hide specifiers according to iOS version, something I use often in mikoto).

KarenPrefs is BSD-licensed. See LICENSE for more information.

See KarenPrefs on GitHub for more information.

[Question] Have any more wifi related vulnerabilities been found since 11.2?

    Posted: 29 Jan 2018 05:35 PM PST

I would like to know if I need to update my script, which simply loads the iOS 11.2 wifi firmware from a location where it is placed on installation.

Repo: http://saj0vie.github.io/ The tweak is perfectly safe, it does not replace wifi firmware files, only loads them from a location, not at all touching system files. If you do run into any issues with wifi turning off, uninstall and reboot. The tweak doesn't work in a non jailbroken state because iOS resorts to the system file firmware files on boot (which is why I don't swap the files). Only known issues are on iPhone 7, in which the wifi works temporarily, but occasionally shuts off. I included a script that you can run to revert to default firmware, simply run revertwifi as root. After install of this tweak, either reboot and jailbreak, or just run flashwifi AS ROOT.

I want to keep this updated for those who are concerned over vulnerabilities on old firmwares. I will only update this when major vulnerabilities are discovered due to how much work it is to download all the necessary files.

[Request] Revert Snapchat to old look

    Posted: 29 Jan 2018 08:28 AM PST

Today my Snapchat updated to this and it's more annoying than anything. I updated the actual application two days ago so it seems they've pushed this out via their servers. Would this be able to be reverted in some way? I'd be willing to pay to see Snapchat the way I'm used to seeing it.

[discussion] accidently moved /Library with the slip of my finger on the touch pad...

    Posted: 29 Jan 2018 11:39 AM PST

To all those who might do this and what I'm going to do to prevent this from happening again...

I was running WinSCP and while connected to my device, I moved my mouse up without realizing I must have double tapped: I grabbed /Library and moved it to an unknown folder. I was so scared... so I immediately started looking for where I could have dropped it. I found it inside /etc.

When I found it, I found it like this: /etc/Library/Library... uh oh... so I moved all the files from inside the second Library and put them in the first and then moved /etc/Library back to /. I remember noticing the /Preferences folder had created a duplicate as well. So without knowing what I'm doing, I made a back up of one and removed it. Restarted my phone and everything seemed fine so I went to sleep.

I woke up this morning with a slow Wi-Fi connection so I switched to cellular and nothing, all of a sudden no data connection. (started wondering if I forgot to pay my bill) but quickly realized I had received a call already. SO I know it had something to do with what happened the night before and started freaking out again. But remembered from troubles in other jailbreak situations where I had permission issues, so I assumed that's what it was. So I SSH into my cellular iPad and checked the permissions on /Library and they were different. I corrected the differences and rebooted.

Cellular is back and everything seems fine for now. I'm still comparing some things to double check (especially with that /Library/Preferences folder that got duplicated) but I hope all is well. I know everyone says be VERY careful with root because its a lot of power for an average user to have. I always assumed I was a little above an average user, and never really worried too much about these warnings. I'm very cautious and I know what I can and can't do. I think I've only been forced out of a jailbreak by my own hand once back in the iPhone 4 days. With Electra being a new breed of jailbreak, I've never manually tinkered with the file system so much. (Which honestly isn't a bad thing in my opinion, I'm learning all kinds of stuff. For me, jailbreaking is a learning experience more then, "Hey I installed this cool tweak"... which don't get my wrong, is also nice; to make your device more functional. Especially when you know what it can really do without being restricted. I'm a I.T. student and just find all the security information very intriguing.)

That being said... all it took was a slip of a finger and I could have lost everything I have been waiting so long for. To prevent this from happening again, I will be disabling my touch pad and switching to a physical mouse.

Just thought I should share, just incase someone else might do the same thing. I was really trying hard not to jump on here and ask for help considering the rep around here for breaking rules (as far as all the people saying to leave Electra to Developers.) But I believe it could happen to anyone, and like I said I have fun and learn a lot here on /r/jailbreak and the world wouldn't end if I lost my chance at a jailbreak. Sure, I'd be disappointed but I'd also be disappointed if I didn't try it at all.
