What to check before buying a used Macbook? Posted: 14 Jan 2018 10:12 PM PST I am new to Macs. I got a very good offer to buy a Macbook Pro Mid 2014 model. Any pointers from veteran users what to check for would be really appreciated. [link] [comments]
Macbook Air 13" vs Macbook 12" Retina Posted: 14 Jan 2018 03:51 PM PST Hi, I'm in doubt. I recently swapped my Windows laptop for a Macbook Air (1466 i5 1.6 Ghz, 8Gb RAM 256Gb SSD) and I'm really happy with it, the autonomy, the trackpad, the keyboard. I really like this laptop. But a trade opportunity came up. A trade for a 12" Macbook Retina 1.1 Ghz, 8Gb RAM and 256GB SSD. Should I consider it? I value the resolution and the screen quality, but I consider performance and battery more important. Is the difference in terms of performance and battery life noticiable in daily use? What would you do? Thank you vmuch! [link] [comments]
15" rBMP (Mid 2014) power issues. Should I upgrade? More info in post. Posted: 14 Jan 2018 05:38 PM PST Hi all, So I'm having a bit of a dilemma at the moment. I bought my 15" rMBP (Mid 2014) used at the end of 2015 with about 40 battery cycles. I picked it up for a relatively cheap price and was happy since it was almost brand new. Fast forward to December last year I started having issues where the screen would randomly go black (It's still on because the keyboard LED and fans are still running) and then shuts down about 15-20 seconds later. Occasionally the screen goes black and the fans kick in at full speed indefinitely until I force power off. I note that whilst the power cable AND my external display is plugged in the Mac has no issues whatsoever and can run for hours without issues. Except when I don't touch it for maybe 20 minutes the screen goes blank and turns off as usual. I restored the laptop from High Sierra down to Sierra but that didn't solve the issue. I then took it into the Apple store to have them check it out. I ended up going back to the Apple store five times because they weren't able to replicate the issue when they were testing it. They changed my display because I had recently replaced the top clam-shell due to the glue stain issue free of charge. Their diagnostics show that there is nothing wrong with hardware either. The last option I have is to have the logic board replaced which will cost roughly $950AUD, including labour. Now I'm deciding whether or not it's worth changing the logic board, paying almost $1,000 with the chance that it might not solve the issue or whether I should just sell the Mac as is with the issue and save up to afford a new one.
Additional question, do Apple employees get 15% off on refurbished models too? Thanks everyone. [link] [comments]
Early 2015 MBP boots to black screen. Posted: 14 Jan 2018 04:47 PM PST hello, and thank you in advance for reading this post. i understand that we're not supposed to ask questions that are easily googled, and while this issue appears to be easily resolved for others, that has not been the case for me. one day my macbook just suddenly stopped showing the screen. i had been using it primarily with an HDMI cord so i hadn't noticed the issue until i tried to use it without the cord. the macbook boots up, it makes the chiming noise, but there is absolutely nothing on the screen. it is backlit, however. typically i would just assume that this is just a hardware issue (which it very well could be) but the most troubling bit about this is that for a few weeks in december the screen worked perfectly fine! i opened it one day to give it a shot and it was working as if nothing had ever happened to it. there was no issues with the physical display whatsoever. but now it doesn't work anymore and i'm just wondering if anyone can offer me some suggestions on how to fix it myself without bringing it in to the shop. here are the guides i've followed step by step. none of their suggestions have worked for me: https://macpaw.com/how-to/fix-mac-black-screen http://osxdaily.com/2017/04/02/fix-black-screen-wake-sleep-mac/ [link] [comments]
New to MacOS. Where to start learning the basics. Posted: 14 Jan 2018 08:23 PM PST Hello Reddit, I recently got a MAC from work. Part of my job is to create Powerpoints for corporate functions. I didn't initially get hired to do this and it just sort of became a thing after a few years with the company. Everything I learned I learned on the job, but I am a PC user. Anyways, we got a new boss who saw what I did and suggested getting me a Macbook to create on since they have the reputation of being better to work in for that sort of stuff. I just need a little help figuring out where I can begin learning the programs that macos has to offer. I have read that keynote is a good program for presentations. Where can I begin learning the basics of keynote, and maybe any other programs that would be useful to use in conjunction with it. It's a MacBook Pro 13 inch running version 10.12.16 thanks, [link] [comments]

Posted: 14 Jan 2018 04:52 PM PST I just spilled water on my MacBook Pro. It still turned on and everything works fine. I'm leaving my laptop upside down overnight, and I'm not turning it back on until tomorrow despite it working fine. I do want to take it to an Apple Store though to just check and see if there was any damage. Does anyone know how much that costs? And any advice? Thank you! And yes, I have all my data backed up :) [link] [comments]
Macbook pro 2016 double key press after a fall Posted: 14 Jan 2018 01:53 PM PST Yesterday, after falling from a low high on the carpet, the right key started repeat sometimes, I got two press instead of one. I tried to reboot, disabled the key repeat on the settings, but nothing works. The issue doesn't occur every time, it's random. Any Idea on how to fix this? I was thinking about a script that filters key input, but I'm not sure I can do this on macOS. [link] [comments]

MacBook (not pro) glass replacement Posted: 14 Jan 2018 12:32 PM PST I'm looking for a replacement screen glass to attempt repair on my parents mid 2008 MacBook. All I seem to find are MacBook pro glass on Amazon for 15 bucks or so. Anybody know a good seller where I can get a plain MacBook glass? Thanks. [link] [comments]
Selling a Macbook on eBay. How do I make sure everything is TOTALLY wiped? Posted: 14 Jan 2018 06:11 AM PST I'm always afraid I'm going to forget something whenever I sell a phone, and now my computer. I save everything externally, but that Cloud, man... I never know what it's going to make reappear. So, pretend I'm a caveman (though I think I'm actually considered a millenial that should know) but how do I ensure this baby is totally starting from scratch for the buyer? [link] [comments]

How do I know if I have virus on my macbook? Posted: 14 Jan 2018 04:11 AM PST Recently installed Mackeeper by mistake and removed it but today began to pop up tabs with ads of mackeeper and other, ran a Malwarebytes test and removed something but still don't know if it's completely removed (it's my first Mac system so...) Restoring my first and only MacBook Pro Posted: 14 Jan 2018 09:47 AM PST I got my first Mac when I was 13. I received the MacBook Pro with Retina Display 15" mid 2012. I have upgrade and moved on but still use some software that I have moved to my desktop. I want to do a restoration on it. Clean it up and repair the bent up body as best as I can for a gift to my girlfriend. She just has a shitty Dell laptop from 2010 which is slow even after I have tried to work on it. She likes Apple products significantly more than I do and would benefit from this more than I ever did. To get to the point I was wondering as this being my first Mac project (I work on regular windows machines a lot of the time) what complications I would run into? What tools I could need/if there's a kit I can purchase to fix it. Or better yet if there is a place I can send it which will repair it for me for less than what apple offered (they said they'd repair it for $1,500. So you can see why I wanted to do it) What I need to do is: Replace the battery, replace the bottom housing and top (keyboard) housing. Other than those things I just need to clean it up. Make it look new TL;DR I am working on restoring my MacBook Pro with Retina Display 15" mid 2012. I am unsure what tools I should use and any complications I would run into. I need to replace the battery and bottom and top (keyboard) housings. [link] [comments]
does anybody have mavericks on their purchased list? Posted: 14 Jan 2018 08:26 AM PST I swear on my life I have ZERO bad intentions. if anybody has it i'd be EXTREMELY grateful if you could download the installer, zip it and send it to me through email or dropbox or anything else. Please, I'd be so grateful I am done with the flat design and slow mac, I just want do downgrade ðŸ˜. If anybody is willing to do it please PM me, I really just want to downgrade I swear. EDIT: I know this seems sketchy and I'd have a rough time trusting this but I really am willing to just give my email address or even better would be dropbox but please, please my Mac isn't THAT slow but it's pretty slow EDIT 2: I have a MId-2012 MBP but when I bought it it came with El Capitan so internet recovery won't work but it is compatible with Mavericks [link] [comments] |
