MacBook Pro stuck after restore. Posted: 14 Jan 2018 08:19 PM PST My girlfriend has a 2010 Macbook Pro that I tried to restore to factory settings because it was slowing down. Before I tried to restore I backed it up using time machine. On an external drive. After I factory restored it, I was prompted with a log in screen. I didn't know her original credentials so I decided to return it back to normal using the restore from time machine option. A screen prompted it was a success and was restarting, but now after the white loading screen. The screen goes black and a spinning icon appears periodically for a few seconds. Then it stuck on the screen.I have had it on for a few hours and nothing happens. What can I do to get it back to normal? EDIT: I'm not sure if this was a crucial step, or if there is something going on that i don't understand. After I did the restore from time machine backup and it failed to load. I went back in the the macOS Utilities and selected the reinstall macOS option. I was prompted to login. I figured out the correct credential login info. The mac proceeded with the OS download and install. Now its back to normal. [link] [comments] |
Mid 2012 MBP won't startup. Need help Posted: 14 Jan 2018 04:55 PM PST I was currently updating to the new OS and something came up so I closed the computer thinking I could get to it later. When I came back the screen was still on the loading bar but nothing was happening. I came back later and it boots up and I go to sign in and this code comes up on my screen and my computer proceeds to restart the process all over again. I've checked online but can't seem to get an answer. Any advice would be amazing. [link] [comments] |
Google Chrome/Other apps losing focus every couple of seconds Posted: 14 Jan 2018 09:52 PM PST Hello, I recently restarted my computer and just ran into a problem that I've never encountered before. About every 5-10 seconds the focus on the app that I'm on (usually google chrome but ALSO other apps like spotify and numbers) is taken away from what I'm doing. I have to constantly click on my trackpad to restore focus on the page I'm doing/working on (such as writing this post!) Has anybody dealt with this before/know how to fix this? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 14 Jan 2018 06:30 PM PST I have a 2017 MacBook Pro and right now I can only boot into recovery mode, and disk utility from there shows me Apple SSD with 500 GB of "Unformatted" space and 8GB called OSXRSERVED Do I need to take it in for repairs or is there some way to resurrect it? This all started because I had a boot camp windows partition that worked fine for months, then went screwy when I installed high Siera, and now I have no partitions I'm not too concerned about recovering my data, everything important is in my cloud or online. I just want my 500GB! [link] [comments] |

Installer stuck upgrading to high sierra. Posted: 14 Jan 2018 04:41 PM PST I have a 2012 era cheesegrater mac pro. I'm upgrading from yosemite 10.10.5. It seems to be stuck on the grey apple logo loading screen (pic: https://imgur.com/a/g4a2G) after I ran the installer from the app store. Its possible it just takes a really long time but seems excessive esp considering I have an ssd for the OS drive. Anyone else have a similar issue? [link] [comments] |
USB wireless devices poor connection in OSX, work great in Bootcamp Posted: 14 Jan 2018 06:43 PM PST I have a Touchbar MBP (High Sierra) with only USB C ports, and I use a USB hub that mostly works great to use regular USB devices. I'm trying to troubleshoot a wireless pointer (Logitech R800) that works very poorly. The pointer has a USB receiver that I have plugged into my USB hub, which is connected to the mac, and it seems like the pointer needs to be right up against the hub in order to work successfully. There are several funny things about this situation:
What is OSX doing to cause the wireless receiver to behave poorly? Some crazy power saving option? I have no choice but to use a USB hub in this situation because the laptop has only USB C - and of course the hub shouldn't be an issue because everything works fine on the same hardware under Bootcamp. Thank you! [link] [comments] |
Buy a MacBook in the UK or the USA? Posted: 14 Jan 2018 04:28 PM PST Currently, have a MacBook Pro Retina 2013. Going to New York this year for a city break. I'm from the UK. Looking to get a new machine before I graduate to take benefit of the discount. I can get a MacBook in the US with it being around £500 cheaper ($360). I also get student discount in the UK.
Thanks for any help! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 14 Jan 2018 10:17 PM PST Hi Guys, I'm looking for help with my Mid 2012 Macbook Pro.. Or atleast understanding the partitions. I just bought a Crucial 275GB SSD and formatted it to Mac OS Extended (Journaled). Im now in the process of using the Disk Utility to Recover my HDD to my SSD, but I keep receiving failure because I don't have enough space. Here's a screenshot of my storage on my two disks... I thought it was weird that I'm losing 100GB on both disks and cant understand how I don't have the full amount available (500GB on HDD and 275 on SSD). There's no way formatting the disk drive loses that much space.. any thoughts? On a side note, my GF has the same Macbook, but with no SSD. She has the full 500GB available.. What am I doing wrong [link] [comments] |
Help! Need to get rid of "Chili-Tab" Posted: 14 Jan 2018 10:17 PM PST One way or another I got mackeeper as well as this safari and chrome extension called "Chili-tab" downloaded onto my 2015 Macbook Air. I've managed to remove every trace of the mackeeper, however, the chilitab keeps trying to download stuff from my chrome as well as safari. I have removed the extension multiple times from both safari and chrome, but it somehow keeps finding it's way back when I open up a new tab of chrome or safari. Any help would be greatly appreciated! P.S. Please don't link me to a webpage explaining how to fix this problem, I went to all of those first. Thanks! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 14 Jan 2018 10:04 PM PST I'm in Spain using iPhone 7 Plus on iOS 11.2.2. And I'm having problems with wifi. When i open safari, youtube or any multiplayer game, it keeps loading and loading (happens 60% of the time), then i have to force close the app and reopen it and then it works. No, my wifi is not slow. 300Mbps down, 320Mbps up and ~7 ping. And I'm not the only one having this problem. My brother on i7 iOS 11.2.2 my dad on i6s iOS 11.2.2. Is this iOS' problem or something is wrong with my wifi? [link] [comments] |
Assistance merging two partitions Posted: 14 Jan 2018 03:37 PM PST I have an external hard drive (2TB) that I split into two partitions (1TB each) one for my apple-backup and then an exFAT for other things especially when using BootCamp. I haven't used the hard drive in a while but as of now I'm unable to delete the partition and make it a single disk (2TB) every time I try to delete the disk I get an error in disk utility. I'll update the post with the error but for now anyone have any suggestions. Things I've tried; Disk Utility in Recovery Mode. Edit: When trying to erase the 2nd partition (1tb) to merge it with the original (1tb) to make it all one partition (2tb) I get an error stating that it's an unrecognized file system (both are Mac OS Extended (Journaled)) \ Edit2: Solution Found: In disk utility I turned both partitions into AFPS partitions; I then erased one and unmounted and remounted the drive; it showed up as a single AFPS drive with a container; I then went into Recovery mode and in disk utility there deleted the container and again remounted the drive; after deleting the container I was able to reformat the drive as Mac OS Extended (Journaled) (JHFS+) and am able to use the drive as normal. Screen cracked on wife's phone Posted: 14 Jan 2018 05:32 PM PST Hi all, my wife's SE screen. Racked when it fell from her lap as she was getting out of her car. We don't have apple care+ so I know we would need to pay a pretty penny for an Apple repair. My only question/concern is that she had an apple branded leather case on the phone and it cracked nevertheless...would apple be willing to waive the fee considering we paid for an official apple case for the phone? OS 10.13.2 and Samsung ML-1640 printer problem Posted: 14 Jan 2018 03:02 PM PST I have a Samsung ML-1640 printer connected as a share to a mac mini system running 10.13.2. When printing from that machine, or other systems on the network (Windows 10 or a MBP with High Sierra), there is a roughly 3 inch margin inserted at the top of the page. I've tried reinstalling the printer drivers on all three systems, removing and adding the printer (on both Macs), and also running the printer from an Airport Express. Same issue in all three cases. Worked fine under Sierra... Thanks in advance for any advice. [link] [comments] |
Mac is stuck in an update loop Posted: 14 Jan 2018 04:47 PM PST Was installing drivers for my Anker USB c to Ethernet adapter and while I'm restarting my 2017 MacBook 13" w TB it asks me to configure my network settings via either Ethernet or no connection at all. It seems to not recognize my wireless card. When I try to configure either option, it says "a critical software update is required for your mac. connect to a network to install this update", which I cannot do since I haven't connected to the internet yet. Booting in safe mode does not allow me access to any wireless connection. [link] [comments] |
iPad Air 2 problems on boot and random crashes Posted: 14 Jan 2018 02:10 PM PST iPad Air 2 128Gb, iOS 11.2.2 has severe screen flicker of Apple logo screen on boot. See video at https://photos.app.goo.gl/5NnPSxicEa4FN8os2 This happens more often than not on boot. It either continues doing this until reboot, or clears itself up. You can watch Netflix for quite a while, but switch to any other app, and it eventually just goes black. This problem started with the Facebook app a few months ago. Deleted Facebook app problem didn't recur until recently. Now black screen occurs at random, though it can work fine for a couple of hours. Problem seems to have no connection to motion or handling of the device. Ideas? [link] [comments] |
My Macbook keeps shutting down randomly. Posted: 14 Jan 2018 07:54 PM PST I'll be browsing the web, the screen goes dark, then the computer shuts off. This happened 4 times in the pass 10 minutes. This problem also happened in the past as well. I did a factory reset and took it to the Genius Bar. They ran a diagnostic and couldn't find a problem. They checked my battery condition, and the battery life was still in the green, though it went through 1000 battery cycles. The only time this problem doesn't happen is when I'm running a game off Steam (Smite and the Darkest Dungeon). It'll stay on the entire time the client is open, and if I can recall correctly, it almost always immediately shuts off as soon as I exit the game. EDIT: I forgot to add that when a game is running, I can hear my computer's fans running, but when I stop running the game, they shut off. Could this possibly be the root of the problem? I have a MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2014) that runs macOS Sierra Version 10.12.6. I'd appreciate anything that'll help assess this problem! [link] [comments] |
My iMac keeps turning off the internet connection and I have to restart every time to make it work. Posted: 14 Jan 2018 03:56 PM PST This has been happening since I updated to the newest High Sierra. I have the iMac 21.5-inch released in 2011/2012. Please help, it's so frustrating restarting every damn time. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 14 Jan 2018 07:37 PM PST I have an iPhone 7 running iOS 11.2.1 and recently, I've had some problems off and on with "ghost touching" or whatever you want to call it. It only happens every once in a while and only while connected to the charger and adapter that came with the iPhone. While I'm typing, it clicks random things, closes stuff, and it freaks out when I'm scrolling because it thinks I'm touching the screen in two different places at the same time. It doesn't touch in any certain place, it's just random. And it doesn't happen all the time either. Should I be worried? [link] [comments] |
Old MacBook air won't upgrade the ios Posted: 14 Jan 2018 07:16 PM PST I have a older MacBook air running osX 10.7. It won't allow me to upgrade the os because it says I must be running 10.8 to upgrade. What's the fastest thing to do? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 14 Jan 2018 03:21 PM PST Hi Everyone I wanted to print something out with 2 pages per sheet on preview, however, the margins on the top and bottom are always so big that it makes the text much smaller than it needs to be. Can anyone tell me how to make the margins smaller so that the text can be bigger? Thanks. [link] [comments] |
Home Sharing audio freezes / crashes iTunes after playing one song Posted: 14 Jan 2018 02:59 PM PST I have had trouble with Home Sharing ever since any iTunes version past 12.0.1. And I'm hoping someone might be able to provide some insight as to what I could do to correct this with the current iTunes program. This setup is at my work, where i use several AirPort Expresses / Airplay to stream the music to speakers around the workplace. My music files are on a local hardwired server, which is a Mac Mini Server (mid 2010) intel Core2Duo 2.66Ghz, 8GB memory running Sierra 10.12.6 - iTunes on Server is 12.7.2.60. The version of iTunes on the server has been updated several times with no issue. I'm attempting to access those files from a MacBook Pro (13-inch Mid 2012) 2.9Ghz Core i7 with 16 GB 1600Mhz DDR3 running a just installed High Sierra 10.13.1 However, this problem has existed for several years now (back since Yosemite). What happens is this - on the MacBook Pro I select the Home Shared library (which is large so takes a few minutes to load up). I will select a song and it will play through. HOWEVER, when the next track starts it will invariably freeze at about 3 seconds, and the SBBOD shows up. After 30 seconds or so iTunes will either crash or will go back to the local library on the laptop. Selecting the Home Shared Library on the server will cause it to reload again, and will do the same thing over and over. Previous to installing High Sierra yesterday, I had used Pacifist to reinstall the dmg I have of iTunes 12.0.1. And home sharing worked under this configuration. Tracks would tally on the Server, and there was no freezing / locking up. Additionally Last.fm AudioScrobbler would work without error. I "upgraded" to High Sierra yesterday on the MacBook Pro and did not take into consideration that it would ALSO update to the latest iTunes. And when I attempted to use the latest version, the same freezing / locking up on second track would persist. Last night, I once again used Pacifist to retro-install iTunes 12.0.1 (which took about 9 hours) and while I'm now able to Home Share with no interruptions. In order to allow pacifist to install files, I had to boot into recovery mode and disable the System Integrity Protection feature. Once, 12.0.1 was installed and I confirmed it was working, I once again rebooted into recovery mode and re-enabled the System Integrity Feature. But when I got to desktop iTunes refused to open. Rebooting a third time and re-disabling the System Integrity Protection now allows 12.0.1 to run as it did previously under Sierra. This problem is something new that hadn't occurred with previous retro-installs Another new problem is when I first switched on Home Sharing in the reinstalled 12.0.1 I received an error from Apple saying someone was attempting to access my account and sent a six digit code. When I applied that 6 digit code to the end of my password, home sharing then worked. Additionally, with AudioScrobbler, I'm now getting an "Device Scrobbling disabled - incompatible iTunes plugin - please update) error from AudioScrobbler." Although looking at Last.FM website it does seem to be tallying current tracks playing. If you're still reading this far down - THANK YOU! I've been at sixes and sevens for years trying to get this to work properly, and hoped that each new update of iTunes would correct the problem, to no avail. Previously before High Sierra using Pacifist would correct it. But having to keep the System Integrity Protection off feels worrisome, and the error on the AudioScrobbler site is a new wrinkle as well. As is the receiving the 6 digit code from apple to be allowed to continue with home sharing. It might be of use to note that if when running the latest iTunes on the MacBook Pro and I don't Home Share the library from the Server, but merely select it as a Shared Library, I don't have the freezing/ lock up trouble that seems to persist with Home Sharing the same library with the latest iTunes. I discovered this yesterday when I thought it had "fixed" the problem but merely Home Sharing was switched off on the latest install. So my question is this - would anyone have some idea as to what is causing the lock up on the MacBook Pro with any version of iTunes past 12.0.1? Any way to remedy it? While I understand iTunes isn't the greatest player out there, it DOES integrate the Airplay speakers into the interface, and I have yet to find any third party alternatives that will stream to MULTIPLE Airplay speakers simultaneously. (although AirFoil CAN accomplish this with third party programs). Basically I just want iTunes to work as it did, where it plays music so I can get on with the business of doing other business on the computer, and not have the damn thing flake out on me. Thanks very much for any insight, suggestions, or knowing nods of frustration you may send my way. Respectfully submitted. edit: formatting [link] [comments] |
Is it possible to get student discount on AppleCare for Mac after purchase? Posted: 14 Jan 2018 12:44 PM PST I recently bought a MBP through Apple's refurb program and can't find any student discounted prices for AppleCare for Mac on the website. If I was to go into an Apple Store would they allow me to purchase it at the discounted price? Side note: I didn't have student discount when buying the Mac as it was refurbished, would this prevent me from getting student discount on the AppleCare? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 14 Jan 2018 02:52 PM PST Hello! I got an Air recently (2017, iOS updated to most recent high sierra). But I have noticed that when streaming tv that the colour palette flickers randomly. It is as if my computer decides to go on night shift for a second then goes back to normal. Has anyone encountered a similar issue before? [link] [comments] |
27-inch FHD monitor not working on Macbook Air Late 2010 Posted: 14 Jan 2018 06:37 PM PST Hi. I just bought brand new LG 27-inch FHD monitor for my PS4 and Macbook Air Late 2010 (4gb ram CTO). (The monitor is working perfectly on PS4 with just a simple HDMI cable.) I hooked up the monitor and Air 2010 with HDMI-mini DP cable ($9.99, not Apple certified), but the monitor just blinks a few times and then goes off with NO SIGNAL. I also tried with connecting HDMI-DVI cable and DVI-mini DP adaptor together ($15 all together and of course not Apple certified), but even worse than the first attempt and even no blinking, just NO SIGNAL. Is this because those cables are not Apple certified? or Am I using wrong cables? I have no budget to get a new Macbook and I really want to use an external monitor on my Air 2010 since the monitor size on Air is only 13-inch. Here is the monitor that I bought: https://www.amazon.in/LG-27MP68HM-Full-Slim-Monitor/dp/B01ID20MN6 Please, help me with this. Thank you. [link] [comments] |
