Mac Gurus, I need your help with a MacMini display output issue Posted: 27 Jan 2018 09:50 PM PST I have an older Mac mini, from mid 2010 I believe. A few years ago, it stopped working. Intermittently that is. The issue was that the screen would sort of go to a digital break up and the image would disappear. At the time I took it to the Apple store and they said the mother board or logic board was toast and it would cost nearly the same price as a new computer. So I bought a new computer and put this one in its box and there it stayed for a few years until today. I thought maybe I could use this as a way to set up some wireless speakers in my house and use this old mini to play music from. So I booted it up, and it worked. But I quickly realized it was still an issue where the image would freeze or whatever then lose picture. So I rebooted (and discovered it will reboot itself as well after a little bit) then screen shared from my other computer and unplugged the old mini from the tv and was able to control it for longer than I had while it was connected to the tv. I think because the image wasn't being sent out the HDMI port the image was holding. I was then fiddling around and restarted the mini and then when I was able to reconnect VIA screen sharing, the image was only black. If I went back and plugged it in to the tv the image would reappear. Then I would unplug the HDMI and the image would hold. If I set the computer to auto login, auto start the programs I need, is there a way to make sure if I screen share, it doesn't show black? As I mentioned, I suspect if I leave the HDMI plugged in, the image is trying to project and then freezes up. I'd like to get this computer somewhere not near a tv so I might not be able to plug it into anything to refresh the image each time when it reboots and shows black. Would even plugging an HDMI cable which isn't plugged into anything be enough to refresh the image or does it have to be connected to a source? Again, is there anyway to force an image other than black while it's not connected to a source when it reboots? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 27 Jan 2018 08:54 PM PST The question is in the title... How do I use both the headphone jack and the lighting jack at the same time to have two headphones on at the same time? The device is an ipad. I basically got a set of old heaphones that work with a regular headphone jack and at the same time have the 3.5mm lighting jack headphones. Is it possible to use both of my headphones at the same time? When I plug in the regular headphones they work until I plug in the lightning headphones after. Its almost like the lightning jack just shuts off the old headphone jack the minute it detects the second pair of headphones. Any ideas? [link] [comments] |
I have the weirdest, most complicated bug that's driving me bananas Posted: 27 Jan 2018 08:01 PM PST Hello all! For the past few months, I've been dealing with the strangest, most infuriating bug on my iPhone and I can't find a solution (or even someone else with a similar problem) anywhere at all. I currently use an iPhone X with 11.2.5, but this problem has followed me from my iPhone 6s ever since about 11.1. I also have an Apple Watch 2 that shares some of the issues and runs watchOS 4.2. Basically the problem is this –– at random, with no discernible trigger that I can divine, many problems will occur simultaneously:
I can't find any real reliable fix for this. Given the issue with the App Store, I suspected that the problem might have had to do with having separate Apple IDs for the App Store and for iCloud, but I'm not sure. I try logging out of my App Store account and then rebooting the phone, and once in a while this works. If I do it 2-5 times, one of them seems to catch and the problem fixes itself for an indeterminate amount of time –– sometimes the rest of the day, sometimes less than an hour. I really am completely confused and it's so frustrating, especially because it makes my watch basically unusable for long periods of time. Any ideas you might have would be hugely appreciated. Posted: 27 Jan 2018 07:57 PM PST I use my Iphone X, Apple Watch (2), Imac, and Ipad (pro) on a daily basis. I've been noticing the last week that the synchronization is off. So I'll get a text on my Ipad, but it won't show on my Iphone, and my watch wont' give me a notification. Its only been in the last week or so, and all my devices are fully upgraded to the current OS. Just curious if I'm in the minority. Is there an easy fix? Also have been noticing battery life has been draining quite a bit on my watch and Ipad specifically. [link] [comments] |
Can I transfer content from an imac to a macbook? Posted: 27 Jan 2018 07:34 PM PST my dad asked me to do this to him and i was wondering if i can just use migration assistant like i would with a macbook to macbook? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 27 Jan 2018 06:17 PM PST My mum wants to back up her iPhone SE but "iTunes can't read the contents of this iPhone". After looking around online I can't find any official way of fixing that aside from "Restoring" her iPhone which, correct me if I'm wrong please, to my knowledge is the same as a factory reset. If I do this what will happen to her text messages? I know that, inside a backup, all the texts are saved in a database file called "3d0d7e5fb2ce288813306e4d4636395e047a3d28" and I made myself an SQLite Query that will extract all the texts she and one other person, her deceased best friend, have sent to each other, but if I reset the phone does that file get wiped or does that have something to do with the sim card? I can't reset the iPhone if it would permanently wipe all of her texts and I can't backup the device to grab the text message database file without performing a reset. Any help would be wonderful, 1r1sh. [link] [comments] |

Posted: 27 Jan 2018 04:47 PM PST Yesterday, my iphone 6 was acting weird. Whenever I would set it down on a desk or even put it into my pocket it would automatically shut off. If the iphone got banged against something, it would be powered off. I accidently dropped it at about an altitude of 3 inches. The phone would not turn on at all. I plugged the iphone into its charger and into a power outlet. It did turn on but it was stuck on a boot loop. Apple logo would appear, then disappear, then turn to black, then apple logo...etc. It would continue to do this. I could'nt figure out how to stop the boot loop. I tried to force restart but that didn't work. I took off the battery and reconnected it. My final resort was too restore it using Itunes recovery mode. I placed it in recovery mode and tried to restore my iphone. Restoring my Iphone didn't work. Itunes gave me an error message. It was error 4013. I don't know how to solve it, i tried apple's way to solving that issue and it did not work. All help would be appriciated, Thanks. [link] [comments] |
Is anyone else having problems with the "files"app on their iPhones? Posted: 27 Jan 2018 12:59 PM PST I have tried 1000000 to download a file from Google Drive to my Files App. It will download but when I attempt to upload my file it says "cannot upload video 3 seconds" the video is not three seconds. Posted: 27 Jan 2018 12:41 PM PST Hey guys. So my wife had an iPhone 6 and she has an iMac. We bought the iPhone 8 today. We backed up the 6 and then restored the 8 but there are some things we can't access because it's asking us to plug in a code into a different device device signed into iCloud. The problem is neither other device has a message pop up to put the code. No clue wtf to do. Any advice? [link] [comments] |
How do I burn music from iTunes to a CD? Posted: 27 Jan 2018 03:42 PM PST Today is 1/26/18, so I have the latest iTunes on my PC. I also have an iPhone 7 but that's unrelated because all my music, about 50+ songs, is on the PC. The PC is Windows 10. How do I burn music to a CD? I tried this before and it didn't work. Thx. Hope that's not too vague. I was born in 2000 so I don't know 1990's trick of the trade. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 27 Jan 2018 03:40 PM PST So some of my contacts have been telling me that I've been calling them for a brief second on FaceTime (like ringing for a second and then hanging up) and then ending the call before they have the chance to pick up. They looked on their call logs and history and my call doesn't even show up. I've called some of these people before and they didn't answer so maybe it's just a delayed call bug??? I'm not really sure what to do but any help would be appreciated. Thanks. [link] [comments] |
Is it possible to use OSX Messages *without* enabling iMessage? Posted: 27 Jan 2018 11:18 AM PST I don't want to use iMessage for probably irrelevant reasons. But I do want to use Messages to send and receive texts from my iPhone. Is it possible to do this without enabling iMessage? [link] [comments] |
How to Secure Data for Genius Bar Appointment Posted: 27 Jan 2018 03:02 PM PST This is my first time making an appointment and taking my MBP to the genius bar for a keyboard issue and I want to secure my data before dropping off my laptop. What steps can I take? I tried to create another admin account, but that account had complete access to my files, so I'm not sure what is the best option besides removal of all personal files. Thanks. [link] [comments] |
Mid 2012 Mac kernel panic (Mac High Sierra) Posted: 27 Jan 2018 02:12 PM PST After starting installing Mac high Sierra to my computer, it wouldn't move any further and was stuck on saying "43 minutes remaining" for a long time. I then shut off my Mac and now it is stuck in a kernel panic infinitely. It comes up with some with text when it tries to start up. Is there a way I can submit a picture of this as it may supply some help. [link] [comments] |
Weird trackpad behavior on MacBook 2016 Posted: 27 Jan 2018 01:56 PM PST This started recently under High Sierra. Some of my trackpad's functions won't work properly (particularly pinch to zoom and force click). A restart usually sets it back again. Sometimes the functions will work in Safari but won't work in Preview. I figured it was High Sierra so I did the laborious work of downgrading to Sierra. Still happening. I found the better fix is going into settings, checking and unchecking the trackpad function and then it'll restore it to working order but obviously I wouldn't want to do this forever. Anyone else experience this? [link] [comments] |
Forgot iPhone Backup Password in iTunes. Can still login to iCloud. Posted: 27 Jan 2018 01:44 PM PST Hi everyone, This is not really an emergency situation. I'm currently re-securing all my accounts. Just making sure everything is in order. So. I have two-factor authentication enabled on my icloud account. I haven't used iTunes in ages as i don't have a macbook. Recently installed in on my windows machine and made a local backup. I realized I had encrypted backup enabled and I couldn't for the life of me remember the password i used way back. Is it somehow possible to reset the backup password? Or better yet, delete everything and start from scratch. Considering I currently have access to iCloud this should be possible right? What would be the scenario if I loose my phone tomorrow? I could restore everything through iCloud as I'd still have my phone number. I won't really need that backup password I suppose. Thanks for your help. [link] [comments] |
Does anyone have a good guide in how to attach new keys to the Late 2016 MacBook Pro ? Posted: 27 Jan 2018 07:11 AM PST One of my keys stopped working and was getting stuck. I unpinned it using a sim ejector tool, and the white butterfly mechanism has a broken latch, so it won't connect properly again. I ordered a new set, but in the mean time I tried taking one of the other keys to 'transplant', but I'm doing something wrong. Is there a guide somewhere in exactly how to put these 3 parts back together: The actual key, the butterfly mechanism and the 'cup'? [link] [comments] |
iPhone Slower After New Battery Posted: 27 Jan 2018 04:40 PM PST Just got my iPhone 6S's battery replaced, and it seems to really slow down in some apps and games. Thought this was supposed to speed it up. [link] [comments] |
Will upgrading to 10.13.3 fix my problem? Posted: 27 Jan 2018 12:45 PM PST The Problem: Ever since upgrading to 10.13.2, my late 2011 MacBookPro has been having daily kernel panic/crashes. The system would typically restart ok...I was looking forward to the next system upgrade fixing this problem.... However, just in the last few days, the problems have become much worse...beachballing at the login screen, or immediately upon touching the cursor, once logged in. Activity Monitor will show minimal usage, even while the beachball spins, then the kernel panic. Now I only seem to be able to boot in Safe Mode, and for a day or so, it wouldn't even do that...after waiting for several super-long startup and shutdown cycles to complete, Safe Mode seems to be working again, but I can't log in to the regular user account. Starting up in verbose mode reveals numerous problems, the most ominous one being IO error = 5. I have run Disk Utility several times, and it shows no problems...given all these weird problems, do I dare try to install the 10.13.3 upgrade from Safe Mode? Could this be a virus/malware problem? Posted: 27 Jan 2018 12:09 PM PST I get 2x a day prompts from my Air telling me to upgrade, but I am worried that my laptop may slow down significantly, since its 6 years old. Currently it runs like new, I love it, SSD is amazing and recently replaced the battery. Perhaps I should just keep Yosemite, what benefits are there? Is it really worth it? The only thing I recognize is how outdated Messages is on my Air compared to my iPhone 7. Im just annoyed I keep getting these prompts to do so. Have other people faced slowing issues with older air models. [link] [comments] |

Swipe from top lock screen bug? iPhone 6s on 11.2.5 Posted: 27 Jan 2018 11:47 AM PST When the screen is unlocked and I swipe down from the top, I expected to get to Notifications history. But after the latest update, iOS 11.2.5 takes me to some buggy version of the iPhone X lock screen, and only shows the lock wallpaper. I can't navigate out of it except by pressing the home button. Clicking on the screen opens up random apps (as if I clicked on an app's notification, even though I can't actually see the notification itself.) Any way to get back to pre-version behavior? iPhone not keeping any photos locally Posted: 27 Jan 2018 11:13 AM PST Hey, I have iPhone 7 with iOS 11.2.2. My model is 32GB, and I have around 4-5 GB free. Since I happen to have a lot of photos (who doesnt?), they can't all fit, and I use the 'Optimize storage' option, with a 50GB iCloud plan. The issue is that there is virtually no photos at all on my phone, everything gets uploaded immediately to the iCloud (which is OK), but removed from the phone as well (not ok). This wasn't working like this before, I had less free space by my recent photos and videos were always here, and the phone would free up memory in case of dire need. Now I just took some video half an hour ago, wanted to post it on Instagram and I got the 'downloading' message. That is super annoying, as the download doesnt always happen (I get errors 3/4 times), and I dont want it using all my data when I want to show some pics I took few days ago, but they are already deleted. This would be understandable if I had no storage free, but I have more than 4GB regularly that is available, and it makes no sense that iOS is so aggressive with this option. Is there any solution for this, to try and keep the recent images, or somehow make the process 'less aggressive'? Thanks Small update: I just checked and that video that was downloaded 10 minutes ago (shot half an hour ago), is deleted again. I wanted to play it and it again had to download it. So after I posted it on Instagram it got removed from local storage again... [link] [comments] |
