The 4K Apple TV no longer has USB-C, so I can't connect it directly with cable to my computer. It now runs wirelessly, but I can't seem to find any places that confirms if this wireless technology supports Windows. And even if it doesn't, does any of you know how I can do this if I am running MacOS in a Virtual Machine on Windows? I managed to upgrade to 11.2 and I want to downgrade to 11.1.2 before it is too late. Any tips? Thanks in advance! [link] [comments]  |
| When is a battery replacement worth it? Posted: 08 Dec 2017 07:44 PM PST My wife has an iPhone 6 and I have a 6s. The batteries on both are bad, but her is really bad. It is doing that thing where it randomly shuts down at some percentage nowhere empty. I've done the drain it dead then fully charge thing, with no success. We all know software updates eventually render these phones useless. It happened to my wife's 4S. I can pay a service to replace the batteries for about $50, way cheaper than a phone, but the phone could go with the next major software updates too. So how do you decide when an iPhone just isn't worth spending money on? Or what age do you call it quits? [link] [comments]  |

I'm trying to transfer my music library from my old PC to my new Mac using home sharing. It's enabled on all devices, sharing is all on, and it's all on the same Apple ID and WiFi. I've restarted iTunes multiple times. I've been trying to get "Shared Libraries" to appear on the drop down menu in iTunes. When I click "edit menu" on the drop down menu, it always shows that I've already checked "Shared Libraries", but when I go back it disappears. Has anybody experienced something similar? Are there any other ways I can transfer the music from the iTunes on my PC to my Mac? [link] [comments]  |
| High Sierra Update and now Late-2012 iMac runs incredibly slow Posted: 08 Dec 2017 12:40 PM PST I did the update for High Sierra (10.13.1) and now the system is incredibly slow. It will take minutes for applications to open or close. Same for even simple websites. Activity Monitor shows UserEventAgent using about 12 GB of memory and anywhere from 70-100% CPU usage. I do not have Time Machine and do not have a backup. Any advice would be very much appreciated. [link] [comments]  |
| How can I transfer Apple Music playlists to new device? Posted: 08 Dec 2017 09:14 PM PST I had an iPhone 6+ where I made several playlists on Apple Music. I then had to move to an android phone for a while and I have been using Apple Music since April on that and all of my playlists moved no problem to that device. Now I have an iPhone 6 but I'm not seeing any way to bring up my playlists on this device. I can see all the suggested stuff based on my listening on the android, but the actual library and playlists are not here. Is there a way to have them on this device without remaking them all? (video inside) Posted: 08 Dec 2017 07:57 PM PST this is actually my mother's laptop, and my guess is that she clicked some obscure setting that causes this to happen. in addition to opening up into a separate screen from the other apps, it also makes the top and bottom control bars disappear unless the mouse is hovering there. is there any way to disable this? any help is appreciated. Posted: 08 Dec 2017 07:39 PM PST Some backstory: the week of thanksgiving last year my dad got 2 free lines along with 2 free lg stylo 2 plus' from tmobile (the sim was provided with the phone). I used that phone for a few months and it went well, then between July and September I went from iphone 5>iphone 5s> (currently) iphone 8. I cant remember with the 5 b cause i only had it for like 2 weeks but with the 5s and the 8, i hav an issue where people will call me and it never rings or horrible quality while talking. Posted: 08 Dec 2017 03:33 PM PST So I order my iPhone X, a phone case and a screen protector from the Apple website. This was on 13 of November. Since then, I went to the UPS website every week to track my package. I noticed the package's weight wasn't even 1kg ( which is very low for a phone) but I always assumed it was a bug/error. This was a package from the official Apple website, and a very expensive one, what could go wrong? Well, in the end, it went wrong. I received my package yesterday and I only had the phone case and the screen protector. No iPhone X. After waiting one month, this is what I got. I feel disappointed, this is my first time ever buying an Apple product. I know they are under a lot of pressure with all the incoming orders, but I had high expectations for mine considering that it's Apple after all. It seems there was some kind of misunderstanding between Apple and UPS. On the Apple website, it shows all 3 items as delivered. On the UPS website it only shows 2 items as delivered. There is no sign of a third item (my iPhone X). I want to contact Apple support but in my country (Portugal) they are not available during the weekend. How can I reach them and report this problem? | Photos taken from Lockscreen Camera shortcut are lost?! Posted: 08 Dec 2017 06:21 PM PST Hi all, About a month ago I went on vacation and only took quick photos from my lockscreen half the time. Now that I'm back home, I realize almost all my vacation photos are gone! I've tried almost every solution I can think of, including using a data viewer-type app to try and see if the raw data for the photos exists. It seems to, as there is a large difference between the Camera Roll numbers and what shows up in the viewer, including a large number of 'unnamed photos' which don't seem to be anything. I'm unsure of the exact order of those two as they are occurring multiple times per 5 seconds. I tried to google the words but haven't gotten anywhere. Not being used to the console I'm not sure if there's something obvious I'm missing. For context I'm running 10.13.1 on a 2014 MacBook Air with a 128 GB SSD. I seemed to have disk utility first aid issues before but running first aid from safe mode after a restart always seemed to sort that out. I'd happily add to the information if you think there's anything I'm omitting. I'd really appreciate any help understanding these errors, or better yet resolving them. Posted: 08 Dec 2017 01:55 PM PST I have a MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Early 2015) and for some reason my wifi has totally dropped out since upgrading to HS. I use Xfinity public wifi and it is usually has a pretty decent speed I've never had issues with it before. I was also having this problem on a windows computer and I changed from the 2.4ghs wireless band to 5ghz and now it's soaring. My first issue, I cannot push my contacts from my iPhone to iCloud for importing to my Mac. Second, I cannot transfer my music from my iPhone to my MacBook, I have tried using terminal to access the hidden folders. | Lyrics have been deleted from Apple Music app Posted: 08 Dec 2017 04:49 PM PST I added CDs from my laptop to my phone and all the lyrics but after the latest update all my lyrics got deleted from my phone and it won't let me add them back from iTunes. So am I really gonna have to delete my whole iTunes library then redownload it all just so I can get my lyrics back? | Posted: 08 Dec 2017 04:37 PM PST I'm trying to set some custom alert sounds on my mac and I copied the aiff and aifc audio files into the Sounds folder in my Home directory and they show up in System Preferences->Sound, but not in the preferences pane list of sounds in Messages or Facetime. They have every sound except my custom ones. It seems as if to change the system wide sound, which I don't want to do, I would do that in System Preferences->Sound. But to make it app specific, I add it to the Sounds folder the same way, but then select it in app. Everything I find online says if it shows up in System Preferences, it should show up in all other sound lists. Especially from Apple apps/apps that are pulling from that sounds folder. Does anyone have any ideas on how I can set custom sounds for Messages and FaceTime calls. Thank you! [link] [comments]  |
| Posted: 08 Dec 2017 04:22 PM PST So I posted the other day about an OEM screen. I have an update to that and I figured someone here could help me better than YouTube or Google. The 5c I'm getting has a dead spot or a few of them on the screen and my friend told me yesterday it was bc she got water in it then she corrected herself and said it was sand. Either way, would submerging the phone in 90% alcohol be effective at possibly fixing this problem? I'm going to go with the sand inside it problem. I once accidentally left my 4s outside on my way somewhere and had to turn around to get it. By the time I got to it rain had already gotten inside so I quickly went back inside and put it in the alcohol then I pat dried it and put it in rice and a couple days later it was a-ok. Would the same principle work for the 5c to remove the sand or no? I'll spend the money on a new screen if I have to but obviously if I don't and can get the same method I used for my 4s to fix the 5c or would this not really help? I'm thinking of standing it up and pouring the alcohol over it so maybe some of the sand or debris rinses out then submerging it in a shallow amount then placing it in sand for a couple days. This means I cannot Hear sound out the speaker in the phone. When I connected my phone to a speaker, and it worked. I also took a phone call from the speaker in the phone but when I want to watch YouTube or listen to music the speaker does not work. Is anyone else experiencing this or can help me resolve this? | Setting up an iPad for my grandpa Posted: 08 Dec 2017 11:16 AM PST We have bought an iPad for him before, and as with all old people, passwords and usernames get lost in the void for all eternity. "Problems logging in?" Of course he's having problems logging in, he just mistyped his password, so he clicks it and resets his password, which starts us down a log and complicated "Okay I'm opening my email to...what is this page asking me to what? Type a password? Okay I'll type my password..." And then the next time he tries to log in with the old password, he's utterly lost, we have to send out contact requests (account number four by now). It's tiring. Yes, I've had auto-sign in. Somehow it gets turned off, either via update or other mess up or he signs on outside of wifi range and it prompts him for a password. How can I avoid this? I am going to Australia. I can't keep bailing him out. Is there some way to completely disable updates, password requests, and so on, for the life of the iPad? Any way to disable all ability to hit 'problem logging in?' And so on. Please. This has gone on too long. [link] [comments]  |
