Posted: 08 Dec 2017 09:05 PM PST Today I tripped on the cord to my girlfriend's MacBook Pro. Cord yanked out of the adapter and now has a slight kink, Mac went flying but thankfully it was closed and only about 6 inches above the floor, and I saw my entire life flash before my eyes. I wish Apple had kept MagSafe, even if it was part of the cord with a USB-C adapter at the end. [link] [comments] |

Posted: 08 Dec 2017 12:07 PM PST Just wondering would prices increase? popularity go up? Sales go down? And I always hate buying third party cables that don't last more than a month or two. [link] [comments] |
Gold Standard of Genius Bar is slowly diminishing Posted: 08 Dec 2017 12:08 PM PST My IPhone X was experiencing problems involving boot loops and the camera not activating at times. Hard resets wouldn't work at times and the screen constantly remained blank. After a fresh install/restore, it immediately went to boot loop. Here is the sequence of events I went through: 1- I called Apple Support. They ran through a diagnostic and found no hardware issues. As a result, I did a fresh restore. The following day I had a boot loop after locking and unlocking my iPhone X.2- I then went to the Apple Store expecting to get an exchange/swap. The Genius Bar technician did not know how to use my iPhone X and I had to show him. He did not seem very helpful. And he told me they could not exchange the phone because it's been hard reset too many times. As a result, they sent my four day old iPhone x to the depot.3- I called Apple support one more time and the man did not understand my problem and told me straight up to expect to get a refurbished device.. We then got disconnected and I reconnected with someone that was actually helpful and kind. The lack of communication, attention, and helpfulness really ruins the customer experience especially after having a lemon iPhone.. [iPhone X] The Face ID animation for passwords and autofill needs to be shorter Posted: 08 Dec 2017 09:22 PM PST When I open a website, I shouldn't have to wait a full 2-3 seconds for the animation to complete just to hit "log in", when the fields auto fill quicker than that. Just a minor annoyance that I've noticed, seems I am waiting just to hit login. [link] [comments] |

Posted: 08 Dec 2017 03:51 PM PST I have way too many Live Photo pictures where it ends with me putting the phone down or awkwardly stops recording when my eyes are half way closing. Would be nice if the ring around the shutter button would turn red and circulate when it's finished recording the last half so we know when we can move. [link] [comments] |

MacOS High Sierra 10.13.2 seems to improve eGPU unplugging Posted: 08 Dec 2017 09:24 AM PST It seems that the latest update for MacOS High Sierra improved eGPU support. I use my eGPU (hp omen with an amd rx 580 + macbook pro 15" 2017) every day for the last 3 months and it worked great, but when I unplugged the Thunderbolt cable it had a 50/50 chance of crashing my system instead of just logging out. But with the latest update, unplugging the eGPU does not log me out anymore and I have had zero crashes since. I did not see any improvements to eGPU's noted in the release notes, am I the only one experiencing this improvement? [link] [comments] |

The iPad Pro has Made Me Pro Apple Posted: 08 Dec 2017 05:35 PM PST I got my first iPod in 6th grade, because it could play videos and loved it. I wanted a MacBook for a while, because it seemed like the "in" thing. Whenever the iPhone first came out (I can't remember if I was in 7th or 8th grade), I convinced my parents to get me one. I liked it for a bit, but quickly got bored with and honestly lost it for a few months because I did use it. I bought because I was so excited for mobile internet and to be able to play things like Neopets on the go (remember I was kid). Well, edge and lack of flash crushed all the excitement I had. When the 3G and the App Store came, I started using it a lot more, then I became a real teen that texted lol. However, as I grew up and Androids started coming out, I just felt more restricted. The MacBook phase ended fast when I turned 13 and built my first PC. I realized Mac's were more restrictive with customization. I did keep upgrading to the next iPhone, because I already had so much invested in Apple, I didn't want to just switch to an Android. So, I felt kind of trapped. When the first iPad came out though, I got excited once again about Apple. I got it, and it was just too awkwardly big for much other than watching video, which I always opt to do on a TV. So, my parents ended up using it more than I did and they kept it. Obviously, now it no longer supports the current iOS, so my dad has just been disappointed with being able to do less now. The only other tablet we bought since then was a small Fire tablet so my grandmother could play things like solitaire. As I'm finishing up college, more and more of my classes need require a constant electronic device in lecture. I have a laptop, but it's for gaming, so it's hard to carry around. I knew I kind of needed a tablet of some sort that I could use for class, but I wanted to make it worthwhile. To be frank, I was really leaning towards a Windows Surface Pro. I read up a lot on both, and I really couldn't decide what was best. I have to give it to the Surface for its different ports, but this weekend, I jumped the gun and bought a 12.9 inch iPad Pro. I was nervous about buying an iPad so close to the next event, but I really did check, and Macrumors suggested that it's unlikely the 12.9 inch will get an upgrade, because it's already more powerful than the smaller one. Like I said earlier, I knew whatever I got I had to go fill out because I can't change parts, and that meant I needed accessories too. I bought the pencil, and got a keyboard case. So far, I have barely put my iPad down, which is a huge change. I haven't gotten to use it much in class, but it's nice to have handwritten digitized notes ready. Hell, it's nice to not have to carry a backpack full of binders. It's nice to be able to type a document without having to remain plugged into an outlet. It's nice to have something that's directly connected to my phone. But the most wonderful thing is that it feels like a MacBook that's a tablet. Yes, that contradicts what I said earlier. For a computer, what I need is something to play today's games, and Mac's aren't known for game compatibility. I couldn't bring myself to buy a MacBook, because I wouldn't be able to justify having to laptops, but a tablet is different. It also feels customizable enough for me to be happy. And on the gaming side, it's nice to be able play older games, like the old Final Fantasies on the go with a controller, and on decent sized, but not bulky, screen. Then, if I decide to play it on my phone, I just transfer the saves to my iPad. To go back on the limitedness too, I've also found appreciation for it. I feel very secure saving personal information on my iPad that I wouldn't on a PC. I feel safer paying bills on my iPad. But at the same time, it also feels limitless. To do almost anything on a PC, you have to go to the webpage, and most of the apps are glitchy. iPad has its glitchy apps, but it's not as common and nothing's perfect. Like iPads just work. Like, I've liked it so much, I had no intention of getting an Apple TV, because of its price, but I want to now. I feel the price is probably worth it. When the HomePod comes out, I'm gonna replace my Google Home Mini with it. It looks awesome, more compatibility, it'd be nice to have a smart speaker that uses Apple Music for once, and connect to my home theater (through AirPlay; Echo and Google can't connect to my home theater without issues). I know the functionality at first is going to be limited, but I literally only use my Google to ask questions, change light colors, and my friend insist it plays music. HomePod would actually be the best fit for me before the iPad and Apple TV. Plus, what I've learned, Apple products may not be the best at first, but the become damn good later. TL;DR Really disliked Apple products for years but the iPad Pro has convinced me they're quality products worth the price (sorry still PC over Mac, Apple everything else though). [link] [comments] |
