    Recommendation for note taking app

    Posted: 28 Oct 2017 01:33 PM PDT

My goal using ipad is to eliminate all physical papers from my life. I am a graduate student in STEM fields so that's a lot of papers.

I am currently using OneNote to try do that. It's very good, but also limited. I read that it's supposed to be similar to spiral notebook, and it does that very well. However, it doesn't have a lot of benefits of digitizing your note. For example, if I could use multiple layers which I can toggle on and off (similar to Photoshop), I can think of a lot of use for that.

So I'd like to rely on collective wisdom of the internet. ** What note taking app do you use and why?**

I've considered few other options like evernote and notability as well. So far, one note seems most intuitive.

Also, I use a lot of google services (such as drive, doc, spreadsheet) very heavily. So if google has a good solution for note taking with ipad, I'd be interested in learning about that as well. Thanks in advance r/ipad!

Is it worth buying a 2017 iPad Pro now or wait until next spring?

    Posted: 28 Oct 2017 12:04 PM PDT

I found out that I can trade in my old iPad Air for £125. Should I go for it? I'm also interested in how HDR movies from iTunes look - is there a noticeable improvement on this screen?

I'm hesitating because they might come out with a 4K version in a few months.

Considering iPad, but can it play videos from USB?

    Posted: 28 Oct 2017 08:30 AM PDT

Hey guys - quick question here - with iOS 11, if I get a compatible USB drive (thinking those ones that have lightning connectors), will I be able to play video files and audio files from a USB drive? Thinking of getting the smaller-sized iPad pro 10.5 but would want to store my media on a USB if at all possible.

Does anyone have an iPad Pro only workstation?

    Posted: 28 Oct 2017 10:17 AM PDT

I've been thinking about this for a while every since I got this dongle which passes power through to the ipad/iphone while providing output to a bigger screen or TV.

Has anyone tried to use this dongle+iPad+monitor+bluetooth keyboard as an everyday workstation?

IT department at work contacted me about my iPad Pro creating a lot of connections over the wireless network

    Posted: 27 Oct 2017 03:41 PM PDT

I'm looking for ideas. I'm using my new iPad Pro and Apple Pencil to be a "paperless teacher" this semester. It is going very well, but today I was a little alarmed when I received an email from our IT department that asked if I was trying to bit torrent because my iPad Pro is making a lot of connections (it didn't say bandwidth).

I use the iPad Pro for my lesson plans, examples and to make notes during the class, so it is on and running Goodnotes for 90 minutes at a time throughout the day. I also prepare my answer keys on the iPad and have it open when I'm marking during my prep period.

I checked my settings and I can't see anything obvious that would cause a lot of connections. I'm on iOS 11.0.3. I specifically checked to see if a movie that I bought on my PC a couple of days ago might somehow be downloading in the background. I didn't see any setting about automatically downloading movies, but I see that the movie in the TV app is NOT downloaded. Goodnotes has an option to sync notes to the cloud, but that is turned off. Most of my apps have "background refresh" enabled and I wondered about that. One recent change I made was to enable iCloud backups, but that is supposed to only happen when the device is connected to power. I don't plug my iPad in during the day at school.

While I doubt that anything will happen over this, theoretically, they could take my iPad Pro off of the network. I have a good rapport with the IT group, and I want to keep it that way.

I'm looking for ideas and things to check, so I appreciate anything you can contribute to this topic. Thanks!

    10.5" iPad Protection

    Posted: 27 Oct 2017 09:50 PM PDT

I've never purchased a screen protector but I'm looking to buy one now (my previous iPad Pro got few glass scratches from using Apple Pencil. I suspect some dirt particles got in the way and caused the scratch). Can anyone please recommend any glass protector brands?

Also, does anyone know of any minimal (clear, preferably) cases that work well with Smart Keyboard? I looked at MoKo's on Amazon and Poetic Lumos cases. Looking for guidance from iPad case gurus, please!

I can't update any f my apps without a valid credit card?

    Posted: 27 Oct 2017 09:31 PM PDT

So, at the moment, I'm broke. (Woo, 21 cents in my account!) but my App Store is telling me that I need to update my credit card info with a valid card, and that it won't be charged until purchases. Um, yeah. It's the same card, and generally has money in it, just a bit lean right now. But that shouldn't make it so I can't update and use the apps I already have, should it? Like, I can't access some stuff because the version I have is out of date. It's a bit frustrating.

Best protective case for 2017 iPad 12.9”?

    Posted: 28 Oct 2017 12:28 AM PDT

Getting one for my mom and niece (sometimes) to share. She has an iPad with an otterbox defender on it right now and doesn't like it. She has a leather folio on the other iPad and does like it, but it's not very protective (the corners are exposed). Any ideas what I should get? Thanks!

    iPad Orientation Issues

    Posted: 27 Oct 2017 06:04 PM PDT

Since installing IOS11 my iPad Mini 2 is not changing screen orientation when rotating the device without a great bit of effort. It seems to get stuck in either landscape or portrait and I had to open a new app for it to course correct. Has anyone else been experiencing this issue of late?

    Did you purchase Apple Care?

    Posted: 27 Oct 2017 06:57 PM PDT

It looks like it's $49 for each incident to repair, and more if it has additional damages. I plan to use my iPad Pro on-the-go from college and back home commuting and to class. I know for sure I will drop it at least once. $49 for screen repair sounds better than the screen repair estimates, even given the $49+99 is $150 repair for one time..

Did you buy the Apple Care when you got your iPad/iPad Pro? Did you ever regret it? Did you use it? How was the experience like?

Is this a good price for iPad Pro 10.5"?

    Posted: 28 Oct 2017 03:43 AM PDT

So Best buy recently had a crazy deal on the iPad Pro line with the iPad Pro 10.5" went down a whooping $125. I got weak and almost pulled the trigger on the deal. But then someone referred me to abt.com and had them price match with Best Buy, for a tax free transaction, so I would be able to save around $200...

Is it a good deal? Do you guys think that BF can offer a better deal than this?

Took advantage of the Best Buy sale. iPad Pro 12" came with 10.3.3 - should I wait to update to iOS 11?

    Posted: 27 Oct 2017 04:28 PM PDT

Hearing a lot of mixed things about iOS 11. What like to hear opinions if it's worth upgrading now or wait until the next update.

    iPhone X & Device Overload

    Posted: 27 Oct 2017 05:59 PM PDT

Warning: Obnoxious first world problem ahead.

Oh my! I was one of the lucky ridiculous people that woke up shortly before 3:00am EST to pre-order the iPhone X. I am over-the-moon excited about my new device that is scheduled to arrive Nov. 3rd, and have now become concerned that I will end up forgetting all about my iPad Pro (and my MacBook Pro for that matter). I suppose I just need to strike a balance of what situations each device is best used for (which likely means my windows 10 desktop will never get used). Do any of you over think your device usage balance as much as I do? How do you manage it?
