IPhone 13 pro series is a perfect device, with the addition of pro motion display and great battery life..it has everything

But for awhile now this is the improvement I want in iPhone but this never seems to be getting better. Not get unbearably hot when I am browsing the web on LTE on full-ish brightness.

It makes sense when gaming so get hot but general LTE use with high brightness gets the phone hot in less then 10 minutes andd after abit dims the display.

This has always been the case with all iPhone models and I would love to see improvement in this area.

Would be real world usage improvement for me.

(BTW I use my phone caseless so I'm sure this doesn't impact many who use the phone with case on)

Anyone else here only uses IPhones for phones but only PC for a computer?

    Posted: 09 Jun 2022 05:13 PM PDT

Mac is okay but limited in many ways that PC is not. So I definitely prefer PC for my laptop and desktop.

Having said that, I hate Android phones. Crappy UI. Too many options. Nothing is simple. On the other hand, Iphones are totally awesome. So simply and easy to use. Love the UI and design.

iPhone dims itself - auto brightness off

    Posted: 10 Jun 2022 07:40 AM PDT

I've checked online and turned all settings off such as auto brightness, night shift, True Tone and white balance. Still randomly dims itself abruptly most days and sometimes during the day it makes it impossible to see if I'm outside.

Any other possibilities? It's happened over my past four iPhones and on all the corresponding iOS updates too.

Is there a way to get an album (not offered on iTunes) from my iPhone 5 onto my iPhone 12 Pro Max?

    Posted: 10 Jun 2022 11:59 AM PDT

More info: it's a mixtape my friend made years ago. My friend has since passed away and this is the only known copy of it. Would like to have a copy of it that's not on a phone that will eventually not work at all, preferably on the phone I have now or downloaded to a cdr. No copyright on said album whatsoever, was just a free mixtape. Thank you all so much for your help!

    Stolen iPhone and Receiving Threats

    Posted: 10 Jun 2022 01:34 PM PDT

My phone was stolen a few months back and I randomly got a text from two numbers with a message like this (or similar):

"Listen, I'm a dealer, I buy phones and resell, if the ones I got is data on them I try to have the owners remove it for their own safety, if they don't, I'll just sell them regardless. They'll use your pics from the phone for Fake IDs and drivers license & info for thousands of dollar loans and credits cards application. They can cause they got connections in the usa banks, credits unions whether you have good or bad credit. By the time you realized, gonna be too late. That's why I'm telling you to remove it and we will reset i"

I'm assuming they have my number because i put my number on the Lost Mode message.

Is this something I actually have to be concerned about? Or should I keep the device bricked? Because F this guy and the one who stole my phone. If it helps, I live in the USA.

Any help or insight is appreciated :)

To all iPhone users that have an iPhone 7 or earlier you should go and buy the SE 2022!

    Posted: 09 Jun 2022 06:18 AM PDT

You will get a phone that improves on every single thing compared to the iPhone you have and for a very good price, remember that the iPhone 8 costed 699$ and now for 429$ you can get a phone with the best chip in the world,a very good battery life that lasts about the same as the iPhone 11,a camera that can record at 4K 60fps with Portrait Mode and Deep Fusion, wireless charging,5G,True Tone, improved stereo speakers, toughest glass ever in a smartphone,6-7 more years of software updates and on the same old body that you know and love.

After the news that Apple will stop the software support for iPhone 6s and iPhone 7,for me it's the best thing you can do,just sell your older iPhone for 50-100$ and buy the SE 2022,it will actually cost you just 329-379$.

    Xs Max battery

    Posted: 10 Jun 2022 01:42 PM PDT

Thinking of replacing my xs max battery now for an authentic one but not apple branded in a local repairshop. What are the side effects ? I know the battery health won't be showed, but if that's the only consequence, im good with it.

What are the Side effects to the phone and does it have to be apple battery or is it okay to use an authentic one?

    Touch ID kinda funky

    Posted: 10 Jun 2022 01:32 PM PDT

I have a 6S+ and the Touch ID is very unreliable. Touch ID works fine on my iPad, even when my finger's a little moist. But on the 6S+, the tiniest amount of moisture and / or dirt can make it stubborn. I believe the home button has been replaced, being a small rattle when clicking (not that secure ig???) but the phone is useable, with the exception of the horrendous reliability of the Touch ID. I suppose the problem is the replaced home button?

    Looking for deleted photo help

    Posted: 10 Jun 2022 09:45 AM PDT

Okay so long story but I needed to give my old phone (iPhone 8) to some one so they could access internet. I factory reset it and noticed that it still had all my photos on it and like a dummy I deleted and deleted from recently deleted close to 7000 pictures/videos not realizing it WOULD SYNC to all my other devices. Nothing I tried has worked and apple support was useless. Is there any possible way to recover these through some form of third party software? Or somewhere I could take it?

Display screen time on lock screen?

    Posted: 10 Jun 2022 01:25 PM PDT

Is there a way to display my screen time (for the day) on my lock screen? That way, when I go to pick up my phone, I will see how much time I have already spent on my phone (too much!) that day.

Will removing tight case damage my phone ?

    Posted: 10 Jun 2022 09:09 AM PDT

I know this sounds paranoid but I recently got a 13 pro max and got a hybrid case which has soft border and hard plastic back. It is a really tight fit. When i try to remove the case it requires a lot of force to remove it , is there any chances I will damage my phone in any way ? Due to excess force or anything?

does iOS 16 bring any improved handling for spam texts?

    Posted: 10 Jun 2022 11:51 AM PDT

Every day I am getting annoyed with multiple "I want to buy your house" or "vote for XXX" or "take a survey" type of spam texts.

This is an area that iOS drastically needs to improve on. Android has much better spam detection and protection.

I always wonder why this hasn't been a priority for Apple, since malware can be deployed via SMS, and elderly can get scammed so easily by texts.

Major annoyance for most people. I didn't see any improved SMS spam handling in iOS 16, but perhaps I missed it?

    I have a stupid plan

    Posted: 10 Jun 2022 10:40 AM PDT

So i am thinking of getting an iphone 12 since it is cheaper and thus i can get airpods and 256 gb.

Second reason is i am shifting from android to ios and i am lowkey scared i won't like it. But that's not a deal breaker.

I don't want the commitment of iphone 13 pro. (Having to use it for several years)

    Is this a good plan?

Also my usage is basic (social media, photos, some light mobile games, music)

Automatically separate photos by source - How I solved a problem I've had with iOS Photos for a very long time.

    Posted: 09 Jun 2022 01:16 AM PDT

While many love iOS photos and the "simplistic" nature of the recents folder, many of us loathe it.

In case you aren't aware, the "Recents" folder is a system album in the photos app that cannot be modified or deleted. It's purpose is to have a single location where the user can see ALL images and video saved to the Photos app, in chronological order.

This is all good and well, however, it can become messy very fast, and with no way to filter out images by source, separating the media taken with your phone from media like screenshots, memes from messages (or other chat apps) or even stuff downloaded from Reddit, can be a chore. I used to spend hours every week just trying to separate stuff by manually putting them into albums, and even when you do, you are never sure if you missed one as there's no way to tell what's already in an album.

That meant, every time I take a day of photos of my family/neices/nephews, I would immediately go and separate those photos into another album called "iPhone Pics" so that they aren't interrupted by some random (often inappropriate) meme received from whatsapp/messages in the Recents album.

Similarly, if I download stuff on Reddit or take screenshots, I would try to separate them at the end of the day so that they aren't randomly scattered among my other family photos in the recents album when I need them later on.

After many weeks of Googling and tweaking, I found a solution using shortcuts and modified it to suit my needs! I have always seen this being mentioned on the fringes of the Apple community, but it always seemed very daunting to me as I did not understand how shortcuts worked or how powerful it was.

    Heres what I did:

    1. I first created albums called "iPhone Pics" and "Other", with the intention to have a shortcut automatically separate pictures and video taken with my iPhone into its own album ("iPhone Pics")and media saved from other sources like Reddit into its own album ("Other").
    2. I then created two shortcuts that will:
      1. Check the relevant album ("iPhone pics" or "Other") for the most recent photo/video, then
      2. Look for all media in the recents album after that date+time
      3. Check if the image/video metadata is taken with and Apple camera or not
      4. Add them to the correct album depending on the criteria above
    3. These shortcuts were called "update iPhone pics album" and "update other album" respectively.
    4. I then used Automation in the Shortcuts app to run the "update iPhone Pics album" shortcut every time I exit the camera app, since that's naturally when iPhone pics will be created.
    5. I set the "update Other pics" shortcut to run every time I start up the photos app.

The last two automation can be set up to run silently in the background or ask each time. If you select ask each time, a banner will pop up after the trigger event but it will not run the shortcut unless you action it. You can also set it up to run based on any criteria you see fit.

Lastly, Here are the shortcuts I made in case anyone wants to try it for themselves and tweak it.

(Note, these are modified versions of a shortcut I found on the internet, so it is not completely done by be)

    Update iPhone Pics

    Update Other

    https://www.icloud.com/shortcuts/b53b440c2d594811914f184327e6cc60

I decided to post this here as I thought many of you might find it helpful.

Mods: If this not allowed on this sub, feel free to delete it or direct me to an appropriate place to post.

Thanks, I hope this helps some of you from going insane like I was.

Edit 1: Please create the albums BEFORE downloading the shortcuts. If not, the shortcuts will not not find the albums I selected in your photos app and everything will revert to "recents". I wrote the tweaks poorly, I should have referenced the variable "targetAlbum" throughout, but with so much tweaking and testing I took the easiest way out.

Edit 2 : I will make changes and fixes to sort out all the issues, then re-upload the shortcuts in Edit 3...

    Edit 3 - Links updated.

iPhone 12 has Verizon / iPhone 13 Pro has At&T...can I just swap sims to swap the service?

    Posted: 10 Jun 2022 09:17 AM PDT

I need my iPhone 13 Pro to use Verizon data, and want my 12 to use AT&T data. They're both logged into the same iCloud account. If I swap the sim between to two phones, do the carriers switch? Is it that easy?

why ios's notification system is so dam annoying

    Posted: 10 Jun 2022 09:00 AM PDT

got myself a 13 pro after years of using Android. Clean install of iOS 15.5 and everything. The notification system is driving me crazy.

why cant notifications stay on lockscreen? There are so many reason that I want to quickly unlock to look at something, and then, boom, notification is gone.

What's worse, there's no indicator to tell whether something is in the notification center... literally back in the day when I was using a iphone 6 the experience was better than this? I have constantly swipe down worrying if I missed something.

I don't want to turn this into a rant about iOS bc iOS is indeed smoother to use and have better user experience design. but I've literally encountered more crash in the past few days (including a hard reboot) than using my android for two years.

iPhone 7+ Voice On Calls Dropping Out

    Posted: 10 Jun 2022 08:43 AM PDT

Does anyone know of a fix for iPhone 7+ voice on calls dropping at random times? It happens both ways, the caller can't hear me and I can't hear the caller. Some calls are terrible, some not so bad but I really don't want to have to buy a new phone right now.

iPhone 13 pro max requesting my passcode multiple times a day

    Posted: 10 Jun 2022 08:14 AM PDT

Y'all, I'm so frustrated. I knew I would miss touch ID and put off upgrading my phone for years to avoid losing it. I finally caved and got a new phone last year and it's worse than I thought it would be. I knew it would be inconvenient to have to have my phone front and center to open it with facial recognition and it really is. But even worse, I'm constantly having to enter my passcode "to enable facial recognition." I understand needing to do this after an update or first thing in the morning. But I swear I have to enter the damn passcode every other time I try to open my phone. I am so sick of this!

Anyone else experiencing this, and if so were you able to fix it? I don't want to remove the passcode completely. I like the extra layer of security. I just want the facial recognition feature to work as well as it's lame concept allows.

    TLDR facial recognition SUCKS.

Open in-app links in Private window

    Posted: 10 Jun 2022 08:03 AM PDT

Over the years of having to use Android and Chrome and growing concerns of privacy, I've just adopted a habit on all my devices to login in a normal window (and saving credentials) and then always opening that website in Private/Incognito.

Whenever anyone sends me a website link on messages or Whatsapp or in some app, I'd prefer to open it in Private and not standard instance of the browser.

    Anyway to do that?

    Thanks!
