iPhone 13 Pro Max from iPhone 13 Posted: 08 Jun 2022 12:02 PM PDT Hello everyone. The other day I dropped and broke my iPhone 13 so I went to the store to pay the Apple care to get it fixed. While there, they told me if I just traded in my phone and paid the same amount I would've had to for the repair I could get a new 13 pro max, so I accepted. It was shipped to me and I've had it in my hands a few hours now, and it made me wonder. Other than the size, LiDAR Scanner and ability to zoom more, what can this do that my 13 couldn't? Why doesn't apple making the lightning connector spec faster? As it's still running USB 2.0 speeds. Posted: 08 Jun 2022 05:44 PM PDT They refuse to change it to a faster more widely accepted connector (USB-C) the least you could do is update it a bit. It honestly seems like a waste, especially since the phones that use them have such amazing cameras that could be used for some amazing projects however hard to make use of due to the slow transfer of these shots to any pc. Posted: 08 Jun 2022 03:20 AM PDT TL;DR: iPhone 6s and 7 have the same level of power management and shutdown prevention. The performance would be fine but only with a new battery, which not many have now and may not be a worthwhile investment at this point (especially if other things are broken as well). iPads don't need to worry about that because of their big battery. I thought much about a possible reason that they did drop support for the 6s and 7 at the same time. It was not easy but after two days something came to my mind. I upgraded from iPhone 7 because my battery was in the 60%s and the replacement would cost like 60$, which I thought I could put towards a newer and more powerful iPhone instead. Because of the bad battery, it performed like a dog and laggy or glitchy UI was common, things like taking 5 seconds to open up the camera, then freezing when taking a picture. But that's ok and expected from a bad battery. Many people will have the same experience now, maybe unexpected shutdowns as well, and not know that the battery is the reason for that. The iPhone 8 improved this through hardware and software, as per Apple Support Page (https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT208387) „iPhone 8 and later use a more advanced hardware and software design that provides a more accurate estimation of both power needs and the battery's power capability to maximize overall system performance. This allows a different performance management system that more precisely allows iOS to anticipate and avoid an unexpected shutdown. As a result, the impacts of performance management may be less noticeable on iPhone 8 and later." They also say about the dynamic shutdown prevention (also known from „battery-gate" and falsely accused of purposely slowing down old devices to make the users upgrade, even though it is a good thing because it prevents shutdowns) „For iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPhone 6s, iPhone 6s Plus, iPhone SE (1st generation), iPhone 7, and iPhone 7 Plus, iOS dynamically manages performance peaks to prevent the device from unexpectedly shutting down so that the iPhone can still be used. This performance management feature is specific to iPhone and does not apply to any other Apple products. Starting with iOS 12.1, iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, and iPhone X include this feature; iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, and iPhone XR include this feature starting with iOS 13.1. The effects of performance management on these newer models may be less noticeable due to their more advanced hardware and software design." So this looks like there are four stages of power management 1) no power management at all (iPhone 5s and earlier) 2) full shutdown prevention (iPhone 6 to 7) 3) partial shutdown prevention (iPhone 8 to XR) 4) no shutdown prevention (iPhone 11 and newer) So for updates this means that the iPhone 6 was just discontinued because it was too slow, like in the good old days. The 6s and 7 because they can perform really bad with an old battery. Maybe the 8 and XR will be dropped later on in something like iOS 18 if we are lucky (and if Apple really had reasons for dropping the 7 which are not related to money). Then the iPhone 11 and up will last for a very long time hopefully, especially since the improvements since A13 seemed more minor. The iPads don't need to worry about power management because of their big battery. [link] [comments]

What case would you guys recommend? Posted: 08 Jun 2022 05:57 PM PDT I'm thinking about getting the Gen 3 Rebel case by EverythingApplePro but not sure if I should spend $42.99 on a case but at the same time the phone is expensive so I really don't want to break the screen even tho i'm paying for AppleCare. Which case do you have? [link] [comments]
Locked iPhone is unlocked by wireless company, will it show unlock by IMEI check? Posted: 08 Jun 2022 05:39 PM PDT Hi guys, recently I am trying to add my friend's iPhone to my family plan but the website said the iPhone is not compatible with my current wireless company(Xfinity Mobile). After checking, her iPhone was locked with ATT but today she got her iPhone unlocked. My question is that since her iPhone is unlocked now. But why I still see "Locked" when I did IMEI check. Does it take some time for the database to update her iPhone IMEI to show unlocked? Since her iPhone was unlocked today, how long will it take for the IMEI database to show her iPhone was unlocked? Thank you. [link] [comments]

iPhone not sending messages to certain people & taking calls Posted: 08 Jun 2022 06:46 PM PDT Hello. So my friend recently texted me few days ago on imessage and I responded to them however it didn't say delivered. And later I decided to call them for a question however it kept saying "The number you have dialed is not in service". And I know they didn't block me because they texted me on a different platform asking me why I'm not responding to their messages. Same thing was for my other friend this was the same case. It never sent the message just stayed there not saying delivered. I receive their messages but they don't receive mine. And I can't call them. And its only been them two so far. And I don't think its a network issue because I've been traveling around the past few days so I'm also connected to other towers with AT&T. Is this some sort of bug? [link] [comments]

"Tap to respond" notification but no shortcuts? Posted: 08 Jun 2022 02:07 PM PDT I got the Messages "Tap to respond" notification on my lock screen, and when I clicked on it there was a check and nothing happened. After googling it I see it's related to shortcuts but I do not have any message-related shortcuts. [link] [comments]
Transferring texts/photos on current iphone Posted: 08 Jun 2022 05:09 PM PDT Hey, I'm totally tech illiterate. After who knows how many years I'm looking at upgrading my old iphone SE (which is around equivalent to the 6 I believe) to likely either an 11 or 12. I'm wanting to keep my current text history and photo library when I switch over. Do I have to transfer it all to the iCloud (never used it before) or will my service provider just be able to transfer everything over when I go in to swap phones? Thanks! [link] [comments]

Video taking up more space then it should? Posted: 08 Jun 2022 12:10 PM PDT I saw online that 1 hour of 1080p 30 fps video should take up around 12 gb of storage but when I tried recording a 1 hour lecture it ended up taking up almost 24 gb. Is there a reason its taking up almost double the space it should? [link] [comments]
A gamified to do list app to try and make chores more interesting Posted: 08 Jun 2022 03:34 PM PDT I study for gamedev, where our primary purpose is to force and motivate players to complete experiences that we build for them. We make mundane tasks like "go kill 10 mobs" more interesting by gamifying it, wrapping it in a nice packaging with story telling, juicy mechanics, etc. There is a whole section of cognitive sciences devoted to motivation with gamified elements. So, I decided to make a to do app to incorporate those ideas for productivity in my studies. The idea is, just like with other to do apps, you have tasks, but by completing each task you gain points, level up, earn badges, and unlock perks. The faster you complete a task, the higher is your reward, and if you miss a deadline, the less points you get. Hopefully, this way I can make regular school projects and tasks more interesting and engaging. Of course my app is far behind other establish task management apps, but I feel like its got its niche with the gamified idea. Do you guys think its an area worth exploring? I'd love to bounce these ideas of productivity focused iphone users. I added some promo codes in the comments for you guys :) [link] [comments]
Where/how to dispose of old iPhone with swollen battery Posted: 08 Jun 2022 11:47 AM PDT Raleigh, NC. I opened up the box containing my old iPhone 4 today and its battery has swollen. I know this is a fire hazard! Can I take it to an Apple store for disposal? Or, better (since I'm 40 minutes away from the closest Apple store), will the local Best Buy (which does Apple support) take it? Definitely want to get it out of my house pronto!
