Posted: 17 Apr 2022 04:38 AM PDT Just made the job from Windows to Mac OS. Been at it for a few days now. I'm really trying to embrace Mac for what it is, and not try to replicate windows on it. But... The windows management is driving me insane. I just can't wrap my brain around apps, windows, close, minimize, multiple desktops, etc. It's like I'm using all of my brain space just trying to figure out what is where and how to get back to it. In windows it seemed so straightforward. If a window was open it was open. If it was minimized it was minimized. And it was closed it was closed. To get back to it, alt tab. Plain is simple. Now, I just have to think a lot about how to get back to something and where it is. Sometimes command tab takes me back to the window I'm looking for. Sometimes it takes me back to the app, but the window is not there and I have to figure out how to get it open again. And things behave different if they were in full screen versus not. And for the life of me I can't figure out the full screen versus maximize option. I like to work with my Windows maximized, but not taking over the screen. It seems like there would be an easy option to make the window fill the usable space, without going into true full screen. Anyway, I'm trying to love Mac OS, and I'm going to give it a few more weeks to get there... But I'm feeling pretty disoriented right now. [link] [comments] | ||

Posted: 17 Apr 2022 03:55 AM PDT as per titel, the usual fixes, disabling Spotlight, adding volumes and directories to exclusion list waiting a while, then removing to force re-index. all turn up nothing. all my latest files on external volumes with Monterey on M1, are not showing metadata in quicklook nor in info sheet (cmd+i). Parallels on M1 vs Bootcamp on Intel Macs? Posted: 17 Apr 2022 03:28 AM PDT I have a maxed out late 2012 mini (16GB, 500SSD) which has served me well so far and still going strong, but I am looking for something more portable with a good quality webcam as a go-anywhere computer and so I'm considering an M1 MacBook Air. The main reason I am still keeping my ancient mini is that I use a couple of desktop programs which are available in Windows only. Another device I am considering is Surface Pro 7+, which has LTE and a better webcam than Air. Surface seems a great machine, as far as hardware goes, but I prefer the reliability of MacOS and longevity of Macs in general. So I'd like to stay in the Mac ecosystem as much as I can. I find Parallels on Intel Macs almost unusable, at least on my old mini anyway; It overheats the CPU to uncomfortable levels (+90 °C) and the general performance is quite laggy (the fan is clean). Granted, I usually have 20+ tabs plus 4~5 programs open. Nothing demanding like video or 3D rendering programs, but some of them like trading charts still run and update in the background. I blame the emulation for overheating. Bootcamp though, on the other hand, performs very well with no big issues. I appreciate the fact that M1 absolutely demolishes Intel in just about every computing category imaginable and are much faster and much better devices in general. I would like to hear though from those who have tried both and compared "Parallels on M1" AND "Bootcamp on Intel": Does Parallels on M1 outperform or even match Bootcamp on Intel Macs when you run your Windows programs? Is lagging ever an issue? Does M1 overheats when you run Parallels, considering MacBook Air is fanless and has only 8GB of RAM? Would Surface Pro 7+ be a better buy maybe? Thanks in advance [link] [comments] |
