Posted: 22 Feb 2022 11:57 AM PST I got an iMac from late 2009 here. The harddrive was broken/missing so I quickly opened the big boy up and replaced it with an 2.5" SSD. Obviously the iMac was not able to boot Mac OS/OSX (since there was nothing on the SSD) and of course no offline Recovery was possible. But what then followed was just...special. I get it - this thing is old and none wants to support a device for 13 years. But then just tell me. I called Apple 3 times. All of them hung up the phone after I explained my issue (Online-Recovery wasn't working). I got back to Apple via Twitter - ultimately I am kinda skrewed if I wouln't have another, working Mac to make a bootable USB/CD Drive to reinstall MacOS. So I was asking myself: Is it just not an issue because an average Apple-User isn't reinstalling MacOS from a whiped device anyways? How do you guys usually do if you sell your devices? Sell it with installation Media or already reinstalled MacOS? I wouldn't trust any installation from a previous owner (heck I wouln't even sell my PC/Mac with any storage device in it) - Am I to paranoid to be a Mac user or is there another way? Is Monterey now considered an "update" now, and not just an optional upgrade? Posted: 22 Feb 2022 12:24 PM PST BigSur here. Today I saw "1 update" in the apple menu next to "System Preferences". When I choose it it goes to a window "checking for update" and then only shows the upgrade to Monterey now. It used to only alert me, in this way, to various security patches, etc, and I would ignore the "upgrade to monterey" button. If I check "automatically keep my mac up to date" will it go ahead and install Monty now? [link] [comments]
Posted: 22 Feb 2022 07:49 AM PST Good afternoon. I would need an extension on Safari similar to Firefox's Multi container. I would need to have a color vision based on the different containers. Is there such a thing? Thank you. [link] [comments]

Default Upload Folder - Possible? Posted: 22 Feb 2022 01:18 PM PST So when in Safari on desktop, if I choose to attach something - it will always go to Desktop. I change to another folder (Ex: Photos) and then I need to attach something else. It goes back to Desktop. Is there a way to have it so that Safari defaults to the same source for the attachment location? As in, default Upload (not Download) folder? [link] [comments]

External Hard Drive not working Posted: 22 Feb 2022 12:51 PM PST This is a Seagate 5 tb external hard drive. Has been working fine for over two years. Today though it disappeared from my Mac desk top. After trying some different cords and outlets I was able to get it back mounted. I ran a first aid disk repair but it failed. Since then I cannot get it back on. It does a loud beep when I plug it in and then the noise on the video begins. It now no longer appears on my desktop or on disk utility. I plugged it into my windows laptop and I am able to view the hard drive but not able to utilize it at all. Does anyone have any ideas what to do? [link] [comments]
Posted: 22 Feb 2022 12:32 PM PST Whenever I expose Mission Control it seemingly throws the mini-app view previews all over the screen and in any order. The order and position changes between sessions or what applications are still open. Worse, when you attempt to move the preview tile and position it in a logical and organized order for your workflow, the app snaps back to the position Apple wants it to be in?! It doesn't do this on my desktop - why would it do this for Mission Control It is supremely frustrating to have to scan the screen to find where the app is after MacOS scatters them in a nonsensical fashion. Total time and workflow killer! [link] [comments]

Posted: 22 Feb 2022 03:48 AM PST Hi everyone! Been kinda new to Mac (my latest mac was 2008 MacBook, and I didn't use mac since 2011). It's been about two weeks ago that I've bought me a brand new MacBook Air M1, and I'm using it for work (office mainly) since then, with Spark Mail as my main mail app - been using it on my iPhone and been quit happy about it. Last few days I've noticed that my battery been draining kinda faster then before - about 30% for 3-4 hours, and native MacOS battery usage app telling me that for most energy consumption responsible Spark Mail. Wish to knew - has anybody got in same trouble? Is there trouble at all (maybe it's normal to get from 100% to 52% by 6 hours of not hardest office work)? [link] [comments]

Posted: 22 Feb 2022 06:33 AM PST I have a four-bay dock from Sabrent that holds some WD 4TB hard drives, and is connected to my M1 Mini running Monterey 12.2.1. Works great, except. Every couple of minutes, I hear the drives spin up, which tells me they're spinning down for some reason, too. This occurs while the machine is actively in use, so this isn't a power save issue. I also have "Put hard disks to sleep when possible" UNchecked, specifically to try to fix this issue. This is NOT an issue of the drives spinning down when the machine is not in use; it is happening even as I type this post. I am not experiencing this issue with any of the other four drives I have hanging on this box, either. It's just the four in the dock. Insight welcome. [link] [comments]
Keynote question (or any other app, pehaps pages?) Posted: 22 Feb 2022 10:16 AM PST Hi all, I am creating presentations where have a lot of slides with images. It is typically 4 images across 3 rows. I am looking for a way to create a template to which I could just point the image file or drag and drop and it would just auto populate the slide with images that are consistently spaced and have consistent size. So it looks like gallery but on slides. Thank you for any tips! [link] [comments] |
