I am trying to connect to my Mac Mini from a laptop, but when I do, it simply shows the screen as displayed on the Mac Mini. Because I have two 49" ultrawide monitors hooked to Mac Mini, this results in either a really cramped desktop shown on the laptop, or I need to scroll around to see the entire desktop. What I want is an environment where, if I connect from my laptop to my Mac Mini, I see MacOS screen on my laptop monitor as if the laptop monitor is Mac Mini's own display device, instead of trying to fit what is being displayed on the two 49" ultrawide monitors into the small laptop screen. Essentially, I want something that's like Windows Remode Desktop, in that the remote desktop is displayed on the local device as if the local device's monitor is the remote system's own monitor (and you can't control the remote device remotely and locally at the same time - if you are connected to a device from a remote location, than the device can't be accessed and controlled locally, and vice versa). I tried quite a few things - Chrome remote desktop, Anydesk, as well as various VNC viewes (by enabling MacOS's own VNC server under Preferences - Sharing - Screen Sharing). | Anyone have any idea what the heck this means? Posted: 25 Jan 2022 06:52 PM PST I've been trying to format this iMac (2011) that my dad bought off of craigslist that came with Catalina installed. I wouldn't have a problem with having a newer version of macOS installed if it wasn't for the fact that this model isn't fully compatible with the patcher and has no 3d acceleration because of it (weird graphical glitches and lower performance) so I want to go back to high Sierra (latest supported version). However, as if the APFS to HFS+ issues weren't enough, after I do all of that, the bootable usb that I have for High Sierra won't load on the iMac. Only the patcher will actually boot other than Catalina itself if I have it installed. If you don't know about the file system issues basically Catalina and up needs APFS and older versions used HFS+ so to downgrade you need to reformat the drive to the older file system in order for it to work, but like I just said: it still doesn't work. It acts the same as before when it just wouldn't boot into it. Same goes for Internet Recovery, it finishes loading after 10 minutes but then it just stays on a white screen, which is what the High Sierra usb does. Anyone have any godly idea what in the hell I could do to get this computer onto High Sierra? I've been on and off with this computer for months and I can't figure it out (tbf most of that was just me not touching it, I've only actually worked on this for like a week of actual time) [link] [comments] | ||
| Can't fix underscan on external monitor - help Posted: 25 Jan 2022 11:33 PM PST Hello there,I just got a Dell P2422H display, and when I first plugged it into my m1 MacBook Air, it all worked seamless, there was no underscan. However, after my Mac went to sleep and I woke it up later, the display started showing underscan. It makes it horrible to look at. I tried a lot of ways of fixing it like: Changing the resolution and refresh rate mirroring the display Safe mode Tried using it via a test user account plugging in and out the monitor Searching through the display's settings plugging Mac into an LG monitor that shows no underscan Things to note: There weirdly is no underscan when I change to the following resolutions (1280x1024, 1152x864 and 1024x768)The display is connected with an HDMI cable through a satechi usb c hub. There is Auto Adjust in the monitor's settings but according to the instruction manual, it works only for VGA. I tried plugging in a Windows machine to the display and it worked totally fine. | Cannot update to new OS on iMac Posted: 25 Jan 2022 09:14 PM PST I hope someone can help me. I have an iMac that is currently running on Catalina OS. I tried updating g to Big Sur when it first came out. My computer just basically froze while trying to finish the install. I finally had force shut down and reinstall the old OS. I thought that maybe it was an issue being that it was brand new and might have had some bugs that needed to be worked out. But I was always hesitant to try it again. Now that Monterey has been out for a little while I figured I'd go ahead and try updating to it. Same issue. It finishes the download, then goes into a progress bar and restarting loop. I let it run like this for several hours and it just keeps doing the same thing. It loads the progress bar about a quarter of the way, then the bar starts over and gets about a tenth of the way before shutting down and rebooting and then repeats, over and over again. Recently I was on the MacBook in a room with carpets, and I was charging the laptop on top of it, I'm not sure if that's the reason, but that's when I noticed it. It's not always consistent but larger motions on the trackpad seem to be stopped, especially ones that require multiple fingers. When I try to change windows with swiping, sometimes the motion is stuck, with even one finger moving windows after I remove the rest. Why has this happened and is there a way to fix this? It appears to be related to hardware - a few times when I connected my MackBook Pro 14-inch 2021 M1 Max with external monitors. It happened with two different monitors (LG 32BN88U-B UltraFine Ergo 31.5" and another 4K monitor). Booting into safe mode didn't fix the issue. I have to manually execute "chflags nohidden" command for each file/folder and then rebooted (with the monitor attached). Has anyone have this issue? [link] [comments] | ||

I recently noticed that the Install macOS Monterey app was download automatically. I have no intention of upgrading to Monterey at the moment, and would like to delete the app since it's taking up more than 12 GB on my hard drive. I moved it to the trash can, and went to System Information > Storage > Manage > Trash, then selected the app and hit "Delete". It doesn't seem to be actually deleting though. Any tips on getting it to successfully delete? Or is it still deleting, and it just takes a super long time? [link] [comments] | ||

(M1 MacBook Pro) Posted: 25 Jan 2022 01:18 PM PST I use my M1 MacBook Pro as a WFH machine and in the office and while at home it's plugged in 100% of the time (it has to be to allow DisplayLink to work). Does this damage the battery over time or does MacOS bypass the battery? What I mean by that is when it reaches 100% does it switch to AC power when the battery reaches 100%, and not touch the battery? The battery is wonderful btw, I still get 10 hours out of it on a day of heavy usage so I imagine macOS battery management is working. [link] [comments] | ||
