    I bought a MBA M1 in October and used it 90% of the time connected to AC through USB-C hub and official charger. Working with it for like 10-12 hours per day, every day.

    This is my battery report

    Cycles: 20

    Using on battery I would have needed to charge it probably more than 80 times. Almost once per day, or maybe more. I'm a heavy user.

    This post is to clarify to everyone worried about keeping the MacBook always connected to AC that the MacBook recognize the behaviour of the user and adapt the charging to it. When fully charged it just use the AC to power the MB, skipping the battery. Of course with time the battery will wear anyway, but way less than charging and discharging continously.

    The other great feature is this

    Battery charging stopped at 80%

    Sometimes it charge the battery to 80% and unless I click to complete the charge it stays like that until next time I plug the AC. Sometimes it recognize that at certain time I usually disconnect the MacBook and it complete the charging few minutes before. I never have problem, the feature works great.

    I don't use any other software to manage the battery because in my case macOS does a great job.

    Mouse jittery after upgrading to Monterey?

    I recently upgraded my 2015 macbook pro from Catalina to Monterey. Everything works fine and my computer seems faster but my mouse is driving me crazy.

    It pretty jittery and then it goes back to normal for a few minutes. Rinse and repeat.

    Is anyone else experiencing the same thing?

    Linking DND between MacOS and iOS

    Running the latest Monterey OS. When I turn on do not disturb on my Mac, it doesn't apply to my phone or watch. Is there a setting to apply focus settings across all devices?

    Hi all -

    I have a 2011 iMac (High Sierra) and a 2015 MBA (Monterey) with iCloud Desktop/Documents synced up.

    Problem is that I use a fair amount of desktop aliases instead of the dock for my apps, and it's syncing the aliases across from each one - which most times fails to find the app on the 'other' device.

    Is there any way to exclude certain files from the Desktop on iCloud drive?

    Message app freezing and at 130% CPU usage

    Hi all,

    I've been trying to figure out what's wrong with my messages app on my MBP. Whenever I'm texting, Messages will freeze and lag for 20-30 seconds and a spinning wheel appears. I've kept Activity Monitor open to see what's going on and I notice Messages will go to 120-150% usage when it freezes. Does anyone know why this is happening?

    Mac not recognizing USB mic in all apps

    I have a Samson Go Mic and am running Monterey 12.1. When I plug my mic in, I can choose it as an input source in the Mac OS sound settings, I can choose it in Zoom, I see it in Audacity, and Voice Memos will automatically choose it when I plug it in.

    However, I cannot choose it as a source in both FaceTime and Garage Band. It's like nothing is plugged in at all.

    Can anyone help explain this?

    Magic Keyboard globe key not working

    I have just noticed that the lower left globe key on the Magic Keyboard (with Touch ID) does not work as it should. I have chosen in macOS settings for it to change the input language. In order of it to work, I have to press the button several times and to then responds. This same behavior occurs when choosing the other two options in settings (emoji and dictation). I read a few messages in various sites and here's a summary of what I have tried:

    1. Restart in Safe Mode and then shut down and restart in regular mode. This has not worked.
    2. Removed Magic Keyboard from Bluetooth settings in macOS and reconnect it. This has also not worked.
    3. I purchased another Magic Keyboard and it acts the exact same way.
    4. I updated to macOS 12.2 (I do not recall this issue existing prior to the update, but cannot confirm this. Additionally, I have seen users discussing this issue long before even Monterey).
    5. I have spoken to Apple Tech Support which claims that this is not a known issue.

    I am using a MacBook Pro 16 M1 Pro Max. Any ideas? Has anyone had this issue occur?

    Missing Finder Thumbnails on Mac OS Monterey

    Thumbnails constantly don't display on finder. I have tried deleting finder.plist multiple times so no avail. Booting into safe mode fixes the issue for about 30 mins and then thumbnails disappear again.

    This is driving me up the wall, does anybody have a solution:

    Mac Source Ports: signed older games

    Websites are unable to ask me if I would like notifications from them on my Macbook. I am on montery 12.2, and I do have the permission turned on to let them ask in safari settings. I am trying to do this on GroupMe and Instagram.

    It seems Promotion is not working properly on Chrome and Edge.

    On Safari / Firefox is buttery smooth, but I need Chrome for work.

    It was working perfectly before 12.2.

    Create custom menu bar item for an app

    Hey guys, I am currently using TimeTree for managing my calendar. It doesn't have a native app for MacOS, but it works on my silicone Mac. However, I would like to access TimeTree like ItsyCal or Calendar 366 from the menu bar. Is it possible to create my own menu bar item that shows me TimeTree? If so, how to do it? Thanks a lot for your help guys!

    Is there a way to "gather windows" and center them on screen

    I have a dula monitor setup one 4k, one 1080p. I have noticed, that when I use full screen mode (for a game, or a video; it's not all that useful for other apps), and then exit the mode, sometimes macos "restores" the windows so that they are almost off the edge of the screen. This annoys me, and I have a suspicion that it sometimes triggers a memory leak in wwindow manager. Is there any way to quickly recenter windows on screen?

    MacBook Pro using CPU instead of GPU to decode 8K video

    When playing 8K video from youtube it stutters really bad, so i thought of playing it locally.

    When playing using local video player, it still stutters, but with a quick look in the activity monitor, the MacBook isn't using the GPU to do the work, but rather the CPU was almost full...

    Am I interpreting this correctly? And if so, how do I make the mac use GPU to possibly eradicate stutter in 8k videos?

    And before you ask, although my external monitor is only 4k, the different in image quality is pretty obvious between the 8k and 4k resolutions....

    Parallels, Windows 11 Activation?

    Hi anyone that could help me. I recently installed Parallels on my brand new MacBook Pro, M1 Pro Chip 14" laptop. I installed Parallels and keep running into an issue where it's saying I haven't activated Windows yet. Has anyone ran into this issue? What have you done to fix it? I already paid $90 for Parallels and don't want to have to pay for a Windows Product Key as well. I thought that this would've been included but I guess not? I'm so confused. Please and thank you in advance!

    Hi!

    Long time i3 (https://i3wm.org/docs/userguide.html) user, and dipping my toes into using a mac (m1) for the first time.

    I was looking to try and make it so browser instances (e.g. Firefox specifically) could launch into a specific desktop number based on profile - e.g. any profile A instances would launch into desktop 2, and any profile B instances would launch into desktop 5. This seems like a no go after doing some searching, and trying to create a copy of the app in the Applications folder, and trying to assign one copy to desktop 2, and the other to desktop 5 - however any change would be mirrored in the copy (even though they were individual separate 360MB binaries).

    A next best alternative would be if I could launch an app directly into a specific desktop - e.g., if I'm trying to launch Firefox with:

    `/Applications/Firefox.app/Contents/MacOS/firefox-bin -P work`

    `/Applications/Firefox.app/Contents/MacOS/firefox-bin -P personal`

    Is there anything I can add to those commands to make them launch to a specific workspace?

    Finder: cmd + M minimises active window instead of Merge All Windows

    I have several windows of Finder open. I can merge them to one window with several tabs by clicking Menu>Window>Merge All Windows. BUT when I press the key combination shown next to it (CMD + M) the active Finder window minimises to the dock and the merging of all windows does not occur. I don't know how to make the Merge All Windows shortcut "more important" than the minimise window shortcut.
