Using Apple Services (HomeKit, AirPlay, AM, Drive etc.) is a frustrating and overall bad experience

    Posted: 30 Dec 2021 01:01 AM PST

I tried so many times. Switch to AM to Get rid of Spotify, use HomeKit with Siri instead of Alexa, use iCloud Drive instead of OneDrive and so on. I do want to use these things. But they are so incredible bad as an experience. How many bugs, sync problems, wrong response from Siri (outside of the us) and other problems I have experienced over the years is staggering.

Recently I visit a friend in his new home, and his smart home experience is so much more stable and better, just because he uses an Amazon echo and not an HomePod.

Shortcuts are broken completely on HomePods right now btw. But yeah, that's part of the experience right ?

I'm the only one that feel that way ? I do want to use the apple eco system. But almost all of the services are the objectively worse experience compared to the other services. And the difference is huge in some parts!

But hey, my iPhone keyboard still don't remember words I type and is as smart as a piece of toast. I mean, it only has been 13 years of use right.

Like how does apple not has figured out all of those stuff ? As the biggest tech company is the world. On one hand apple has some super cool features that are mind blowing, and than they can't manage to have a proper basic AI in their keyboard. Like it's almost 2022.

And that's one of countless examples

Apple Music Documents & Data Storage Size

    Posted: 29 Dec 2021 07:59 PM PST

Recently I made the switch from an iPhone 12 Pro to a 13 Pro Max and on both iPhones I have noticed a bug that is eating up my internal storage.

Apple Music's Documents and Data are using about 35GB of internal storage. I have tried remediating this by deleting the app, but since this is a stock app the documents and data are never truly deleted from the iPhone.

I thought that once I moved to the new iPhone 13 Pro that the bug would disappear, but that was not the case. After installing from an iCloud backup I checked the Apple Music app and it was still using more then 30GBs for documents and data.

After contacting two Apple Support specialists, one suggested that I wipe my iPhone and start fresh, while another didn't offer any real suggestions as the issue goes beyond anything they can do.

I also checked my iPad and it seems AM is only using 15GBs for documents and data on it, but that still is not acceptable.

Now I am turning to the community to see how widespread this issue is, and maybe get Apple's attention on this issue.

Have you experienced this as well? 🤔

I love apple, but I really, really, really hate how they make it hard for me and many other diabetics take care of our diabetes and health.

    Posted: 30 Dec 2021 02:06 AM PST

I don't know why I'm writing this post knowing that nothing will change because of it, maybe I just want to rant about it.

Diabetics use a device called CGM to monitor their glucose levels in the body, these devices can send the glucose reading to the user phone and they can also send alerts when your glucose level gets too low or too high.

Unfortunate not everyone can have an access to a CGM like myself because it's not available in my country, what we have in my country is something called FGM or intermittent CGM.

if we want to turn these devices to a true CGM we have to purchase extra devices like the bubblan, i have purchased this device for over a year and everything was fine until a couple months ago, and i will list some of the problems

1- we had to download the app for bubblan using the testflight app, we couldn't download it from the App Store because apple won't allow it in the store for some reason.

2- after sometime the number of the beta users reached the maximum number ( i think 10k) and new users couldn't join the beta and download it.

3- after that apple made some changes and the developers couldn't keep the app in the test flight, we kept using the app for awhile but it expired and it no longer worked and had to find an alternative.

4- we found another app to use it with the device but it was exactly the same as the first one, and now this app no longer works too.

5-the developers found a new way to install the app which is a headache as you can see for yourself https://mirror.xyz/0x53108D04C1f0241e70f67594e56FfDA93590D56E/YeQhGtKTYRLeTQtoVCLXRrPhDxeDQLarZBTfpmoyp2Q

Even after using this method we still can't use features like widgets and the watch app which we could previously with testflight.

I just hate it when i see android users just downloading the app from the developer and install it easily without having to deal with all this headache.

Here's a thought: your AirPods (Max/Pro/Regular) don't appear under AppleID's List of Devices

    Posted: 29 Dec 2021 05:52 PM PST

That said, HomePods DO appear in the list (probably because it is powered & wirelessly tethered to one of your Apple OS'). So, it would be nice if all your iDevices, AirPods included, show up in the list (better yet, also include AirTags). I know I can see the full list of devices in the Apple Support app but that's from a troubleshooting/repairability perspective. From a usability POV, having ALL your iDevices show up in AppleID seems like a given, no?

I'm disappointed with the 14-inch MacBook Pro battery life.

    Posted: 29 Dec 2021 08:05 PM PST

I'm on day 3 of my base model 14 inch MacBook pro, and I'm surprised how bad the battery life is compared to the M1 Air. In 20 minutes of using only Firefox, my battery has gone down 10%, which projected out leaves me with ~3.5 hours of battery life. On my Air, the battery seems to last forever.

I'm not sure if I got a dud, but this is a heads up to anyone considering going from the M1 Air to a 14 inch Pro.
