I’ve been seeing some pixel peeking posts on here lately, so I figured I added onto the pile. Take a look at the circle with the arrow in it. You can clearly see that it’s not centered. There’s more space on the top of it and there’s on the bottom

    Full Screen Video Advice

    Posted: 26 Nov 2021 05:47 AM PST

Hi all, I'm hoping someone here can point me in the right direction... I'm helping out a friend with some music events and they need to have some videos playing on a projector behind them throughout the gig. The videos change per song and I'll need to tee up the timing myself.

However, I can't seem to find an App that can output full screen video with no UI. I want to be able to send the video feed out (via HDMI) and have no UI at all on there. Nothing.

I've tried VLC, but the only options are to reduce UI, it's better, but still not great. Iina is another app I've given a go, but doesn't seem to have the "remove UI" as an option. I have a bit of time before this needs to be working (a few weeks), so if you have any recommendations (or a better Reddit to ask!) that would be great.

    Homebrew - Security issues?

    Posted: 26 Nov 2021 04:26 AM PST

According to this article - applehelpwriter there are some security issues with homebrew, and it changing the permissions of the /usr/local and /usr/local/bin folders. As a developer I've avoided homebrew because of these concerns but am now evaluating the package manager once again. The thing is that I've seen people mention that on M1 macbooks homebrew now uses /opt/homebrew instead of /usr/local/bin to install software. Does this mean that the security issues pointed out in the article no longer apply? Or is there more to this than meets the eye??

Thank you for any input on this.

Which version of Parallels desktop for gaming

    Posted: 25 Nov 2021 11:49 PM PST

Parallels desktop 17 is currently on sale, 20% off and I'm considering getting it just to play Garena's League of Legends (Asian server). Wondering is the standard version enough or do I need the pro version of PD to run the game. I see the 128GB vRam & 32vCPU that's different from the standard edition but I have no idea if that is necessary to play the game smoothly at medium graphics.

I'll be using a base M1 Mac mini to play, any help is appreciated

Is there a way to bypass the impossibility to install any iOS app?

    Posted: 26 Nov 2021 05:26 AM PST

Title says all. I have apps on my phone I would like to run on my recently acquired MacBook Pro but simply can't install some because they said the developper decide not to.

Read some article on internet and it seems that everything was installable at first, then they limited, they everything was possible again, then they changed again etc.

Right now, is there any way to install any app or if the developers says no, it's over?

Got a new Mac, CTRL + Tap no longer working?

    Posted: 26 Nov 2021 04:39 AM PST

On my old macbook air 2013, on files I used to press CTRL and tap on the trackpad to open essentially the right click menu. Now on my new macbook pro 2021 I have to CTRL + click in order to do the same action. Is there a setting to change this?

edit: I just noticed the same behavior when pressing Shift + tap. I might also add that I changed the settings so that I just have to tap the trackpad in order to do a mouseclick.

Hello, I recently updated to the latest beta of the displaylink software, in order to use a second monitor and rotate it on a macbook pro m1, however, im getting a black screen even though its detecting input, the systems seems to find the monitor, but only works if I mirror my main monitor, which is kind of useless, reading the comments on the beta post, people seem to have no problem at all, so Im wondering if anyone had or is having the same issue, and if they were able to fix, it

Tiling windows in a "smart" way?

    Posted: 25 Nov 2021 11:32 PM PST

Hey guys, long time MacOS user here, and know my way around most of it. But if you're familiar with the new Windows 11 features regarding app arrangement, I was wondering if MacOS has something similar I'm not aware of?

I know how to drag and rearrange windows manually. And if I connect an external screen, apps usually go back to where I'd put them previously (but not always, and I'm not sure why). And I also know that by hovering over the "maximise" button you can tile a window left and right, then choose what to put on the other side.

But are there any features I might have missed about arranging windows in pre-defined, or user created configurations to maximise screen real estate?

Question: Portable hard drive for both MacOS and Windows

Question: Portable hard drive for both MacOS and Windows

    Hi!

I've been a long time windows laptop user and now that my laptop won't hold a charge anymore. I'm making the switch to a Macbook pro (currently being shipped). I'd like to transfer most of my files onto a hard disk, a friend gave me a G-drive mobile to use.

    G-drive mobile

I've been looking into it and it seems the way it's formatted (NTFS), it allows read and write on windows but can only read files on MacOS.
Ideally I'd want it to be able to read and write across windows and MacOS. Past posts, have mentioned that it needs to be formatted in exFAT rather than NTFS. But I wanted to make sure this will allow me to read and write on BOTH windows and MacOS.

    Thanks in advance!

Login screen: password characters disappear/deleted while typing

    Posted: 26 Nov 2021 07:44 AM PST

Anyone else have this frustrating bug that deletes the beginning of your typed in characters while typing?

I.e. my password has 8 digits, the first few simply disappear while typing. I can type my pw very quickly & hit enter, this bug slows me down very much.

I already reset PRAM & SMC. Latest version of BigSur is installed

Can I get notified earlier about low battery?

    Posted: 26 Nov 2021 07:13 AM PST

I'd prefer to get a notification around 20% rather than way down at 7%. Can I change this or should I find a third-party solution?

Can't Download Xcode To macOS Monterey

    Posted: 26 Nov 2021 06:56 AM PST

I tried to download Xcode to my new 2021 MacBook Air, I needed to stop it and then it disappeared. Now I'm trying to download it, I'm pressing the download button but it's not downloading and not saying nothing. Just 1 sec loading then again there's a download button. How can I download it?

iCloud gateway -- causing network interruptions and issues

    Posted: 26 Nov 2021 06:50 AM PST

I was having constant issues with networking. It would just stop responding or everything wouldn't return a result unless I changed network profiles from one to the other. Then as I was changing profiles, I saw a checkbox briefly appear saying "iCloud Private Gateway".... and then it goes away a few seconds later after the profile connects to the interfaces I have for network

I uncheck it and suddenly everything starts working again. Then I search online as to what this is and it turns out it's some privacy filter that hides your identity online or something... you can turn this off in System Preferences under Apple ID.

This was something that has been annoying me a long time.... this is my first Mac and I'm glad I could turn this off however it got turned on... but man.... I hope this really solved it because so far things look as they should be with networking and the internet.

So, I imagine this is common knowledge to most here but I'm still new to the Mac and this was news to me. Had no idea what this was and Google / Bing searches didn't point to this when I was looking for it. Hope it holds and if it helps someone else.

    Highlights/Annotations missing in Preview.app

    Posted: 26 Nov 2021 02:32 AM PST

I was using macOS default preview app to view pdf files. I made many annotations and saved it. Upon reopening some of them(well most of the recent ones) disappeared. The file size was increasing for every annotations but can't see them on reopening. Tried saveas, export as pdf. Nothing works. Anyone has this problem?
