WiFi hard to work with on my M1 MBA Posted: 14 Nov 2021 10:29 PM PST Most of the time, i use my home or my university's WiFi on my macbook air. Some sites (mostly games) are blocked on the uni's WiFi, so I switch to my iPhone 4G hotspot; this step can be very hard to do. Sometimes, even tho the hotspot is set as discoverable, the wifi network doesn't appear, so i have to to to the wifi settings, wait at least 5 seconds for them to not freeze, then disconnect from the wifi from there and then by some magic it connected to the 4G hotspot. This is very long to do and absolutely not user friendly. If i am lucky enough for the hotspot to appear in the list, it can take up to three MINUTES for the laptop to switch from the wifi to the hotspot. Does anyone have problems with their wifi here as well? [link] [comments]

But still unable to get HDR or 8k to pop up as options in YouTube on Safari. It works just fine in Chrome. Tried everything, including resetting all app features to default, but no good. Any ideas? Thanks! [link] [comments]

Mac OS - used to be a huge fan, but the quality has gone down, down, downhill Posted: 14 Nov 2021 07:05 PM PST ****Big gripe alert*** My macbook pro display setup: 2 usbc-HDMI adapters connected to a few large monitors. I have these 2 monitors working fine. Lock my display, go for dinner, come back, unlock my screen and I'm getting annoying flicker of screen, basically i cannot use my macbook until i unplug the 2 adapters. This happens often. (PS - About 2 years ago - no problem. this would've worked without a hitch) Printing using mac os? BIG FAIL. I used to have a properly working and smooth printer setup. Ever since Mac OS has made some ridiculous update to their OS where some sort of cert based "security" is enforced, i have to constantly remove/setup again my printers - if i let it go for too long without printing, whatever authentication was already in place must have expired, so printing stops working. This is just the small stuff - I have way more complaints about the crap quality Apple has been dishing out. I just can't stand Apple anymore. I used to be the biggest fan and LOVED their products and the stability and quality they offered. But lately, they have become a huge disappointment for me. Why am i paying a shit ton of money for a macbook pro if i can get another way more powerful and stable system for far less money? I'm just putting this out there, read it or not. Question about how to use Shortcuts/Apple script to tile windows. Posted: 14 Nov 2021 01:55 PM PST Hi, I am fairly new to MacOS ( Long term Windows user and occasionally Linux). So far, I have found the entire OS to be really intuitive and nicely developed. I was wondering if there is a way to use Shortcuts or Apple scripts to tile all open windows automatically in according to the space available on the screen. I know there are some examples on the Shortcuts app to tile 2-4 windows. However, I was not sure how to implement it for a random number of windows and the allocate them dimensions in an automated way too according to the space available on the screen. I understand some apps like Moom do what I want. I just wanted to implement this on my own using the OS itself. I wanted to know if there is already something in place which people use or has this been implemented in Shortcuts by someone? Or any other way without using a third party app? You could also point me to any useful resources. Thanks a ton! [link] [comments]

Has Low Power Mode made a difference in your workspace? Posted: 14 Nov 2021 10:10 AM PST I'm curious if people have noticed a good difference in low power mode on their MacBooks? I'm going on a 15 hour plane trip and I am wondering if I should use the mode for offline writing. I tried it out but it felt like the battery was draining faster, but I'm probably wrong. I am wondering how much of a difference has the mode made on you? [link] [comments]

It is so frustrating to upgrade to Big Sur Posted: 14 Nov 2021 02:29 PM PST Warning: I need some help but this is mostly a complaint... Okay. I spent 5 hours without success. My MacBook has 128G, and the current system takes up 11.33G and "Other" takes 55.58G. I use a USB drive, so I need 35.5G for Big Sur. I deleted almost everything but important files! I deleted almost all apps. Now I have 400M apps and 4G documents. I still cannot have 35.5G free space for the installation. While the system information keeps showing that the free space is around 38-39G, whenever I started the installation process, the last step always reminded me that the free space was around 35G, which was 500M away from the requirement. One explanation could be that when I kept deleting files, the iCloud kept downloading files into my local disk due to "optimize". For example, it looks like my "Photos" was growing in size. It is so frustrating because I do not think I can delete anything else. It looks like I just cannot have the free space. Any HELP would be greatly appreciated! You will save my day. EDIT: Alright I gave up. I uninstalled a few more apps, including pages, keynotes, and numbers. I also deleted many files. "System information" shows that I have 39G free space. When I tried to install, it said I only had 25G available. It said 34.8G available BEFORE I deleted almost everything. I am done! EDIT 2: And I need to re-install everything I uninstalled this afternoon. Another process. I need some beer. [link] [comments]
macOS Monterey too buggy just on m1 macs? Posted: 14 Nov 2021 07:27 AM PST Hi guys, I have a Intel mbp 16inch and base model m1 Mac mini. Somehow Monterey has helped my 16 inch mbp work wonderfully but at the same time my m1 Mac mini has so many bugs. Is it just me or even others on the m1 macs (not pro and max, just the normal m1) facing the same too? [link] [comments]
Install Mac OS on external hard drive Posted: 14 Nov 2021 05:56 PM PST I have a Late 2013 iMac (3.2 GHz Intel Core i5 with 3gb of RAM running on Catalina OS). It is a slow computer, but it's been for a very long time; for this reason, I'm only one in the house that use it (sometimes). I want to do a factory reset to see if that helps but also heard you can run from a external hard drive the OS to make it quicker. Is this reliable? Do you recommend it? Or do you have any suggestions? Thank you very much [link] [comments]

Display specific sound output? Posted: 14 Nov 2021 09:34 AM PST Hello, I'm wondering if there's a way to use the built in speakers for different displays to output whatever is on that specific display? For example, I have a portable monitor, my MacBook Pro, an iPad with sidecar, and my Apple TV. Is there a way to have the safari window that I have open on my iPad play sound from the iPad, the zoom session I have playing on my Apple TV output from the TV speakers, a video playing on the portable monitor play sound from the monitor, and so on so forth. I know zoom is a bad example because you can route its audio to a specific output, but it was the first thing that came to mind. Thanks! Currently running MacOS 12.1 if needed [link] [comments] |
