    I love the promise of Focus Mode, especially for more 'power user' applications of it. The things I get excited about are the ability to set different active home screens for different focus modes, to silence certain apps dependent on what I'm doing to maintain my well-being and to use automations within the Shortcuts app for extra utility (like changing Apple Watch faces based on certain focus modes).

    But here's what's clunky about it all:

    • The mode has weird interactions with the default notifications settings. Do you want the app's specific settings to overrule whatever the focus mode has dictated? Well, you better go digging for 'time sensitive notifications'… but how do you know how that works? Better spend a day troubleshooting and missing important notifications. And what about time-based summaries? Well, again, better to just use constant trial and error before you get that right.
    • The mode uses an 'inclusion based' paradigm, rather than an 'exclusion based' one (which is arguably the more useful). Want to only restrict certain apps from notifying you for a specific mode? Better add every other app into that mode. What about avoiding calls and texts from just a few people? Again, you'll need to add every other contact into that mode.
    • The time-based triggers for certain modes seem to ignore my custom home screen settings. When I automatically trigger Personal mode, my screen of work apps is supposed to disappear. It doesn't until I manually toggle between focus modes.
    • The fidelity of settings and controls aren't the same between iOS and Mac OS. You can do more on Mac OS, and these settings carry over to iOS, but you may not realise what you've gone and done to your iOS device without, you guessed it, more trial and error.

    All in all, I like the promise of this feature set, but the execution is unnecessarily complicated, interdependent and lacking clear explanations.

    The next versions of iOS and Mac OS should take the promise of this feature set and rebuild it (alongside notifications settings) from the ground up with a completely new UX.

    How to sort transferred Google photos chronologically in iPhone's "Recent" photos?

    So I have around 8000 photos in Google Photos from my old android phone that I want to transfer to my iPhone's gallery. I downloaded the Google photos app on the iPhone and have been successful in transferring photos in batches of 500-1500 at a time through the Google photos share option.

    However, the transferred photos are scattered non-chronologically all over the place in the "Recent" album of iPhone's photos app. They're only sorted chronologically if I choose to view them in "Library".

    How do I sort them in "Recent"?

    When viewing HDR photos/videos in Photos, bright parts will become "overexposed". This does not happen in Google Photos

    Open Websites in Safari

    Focus mode constantly being bypassed

    I love focus mode, but I find it so annoying that people can just bypass it so easily, usually with something super unimportant. Is there a way to disable the bypass options for a single contact? I don't want to have to disable the focus status if possible because I like that contacts know I'm on focus mode and not just ignoring them.

    Gamified sleep and or/ alarm apps?

    Looking for more apps that use gamification and reward you for getting enough sleep or getting up on time - apps like Forest/ Sleep Town / Nomi.

    I'm not looking for puzzle alarm style apps like Alarmy (Alarmy is fantastic though.)

    Does 3.0x optical zoom mean that 2x zooming is now digital?

    I'm coming from an 11P which has 2x optical zoom. 2x was a good zoom for me and I never zoomed further than that.

    Now I have the 13P and I see that the optical zoom is set to 3x. Does that mean it's the only optical zoom length it has? Or can it zoom between 1-3x optically and anything further is digital?

    Focus Mode precedence (iOS 15.1 / macOS Monterey 12.0.1)

    Scenerio:

    Have Sleep enabled from 10pm to 7am (automated)

    Have Do not Disturb from 10pm to 7am (automated)

    Seems like Sleep takes precedence. But also, if I turn off Sleep manually before 7am, Do not Disturb is not automatically engaged per schedule.

    Is that by design? or a bug?

    If the idea is that only one Focus state can be enabled at a time (with some sort of precedence applied) shouldn't the schedule of a lower precedence Focus kick in if the higher precedence is turned off?

    I could have sworn in iOS 14 that in the above scenario DND would remain on.

    Reminder App - Daily Reminder Issue

    I have reminder(e.g Check Stock Market) which needs to be done daily. I have used settings to remind me daily.

    My issue is lets say I forgot yesterday. But I completed today. The completed reminder shows as completed yesterday, not Today. Next reminder is scheduled for tomorrow automatically. This is misleading.

    Is there a solution?

    How to force face scan in Photos app?

    Does anyone know a reliable way to force Faces album to scan? Mine has been stuck for WEEKS since I got my iPhone 13 Pro with iOS 15. Already tried toggling off iCloud Photos, rebooting, etc. nothing seems to really help. I'm working from home so I leave my phone plugged all the time and the scanned number doesn't go up. Sometimes overnight it scans a few, but lately seems to be stuck.

    I really hate that we don't have an option to make it "scan now" or force it somehow.

    FaceTime problem on iOS 15.1

    Since I installed iOS 15.1 when I use FaceTime to call someone I can't see/hear the person I called, only if I end and call again I can see and hear. And the same thing happens when I receive the call. It's an update bug, does anyone have the same problem?

    Landscape tab bar missing on iPhone 8

    Hey, I remember using iOS 15 beta 3 and I was kindly surprised to see the tabs appear on the top of the screen in landscape, it made my day knowing that I can easily access tabs in safari with the device titled to its side, but since Beta 4 and future versions like 15.1, it's been only available on notch iPhones,why is that? I had no problems with it despite the screen being small.

    Sharing reminders/Family sharing

    Hi, I'm new to iOS and apple in general. I just purchased my new iPhone last year and now my sister just gone one too. I've set up Family Sharing and we are now sharing the Apple music subscription and location. I can't, however, set up the reminders. All I am attempting to do is share the reminder list with my sister but when clicking on add, all the contacts are greyed out and I can just add myself off the contacts list. The normal autofill doesn't work either when I start typing in her name or number.

    I thought I could use the built in function of family sharing created list instead of sharing the one I set up. The problem is none of the family sharing things have set themselves up at all (calendar, photos, reminders)

    I've gone through all possible articles but everything is set up correctly based on what Apple support is saying. I have found the following post saying the automatically created family sharing functions are being discontinued in new users. Not sure if true but whatever fine we don't use it anyways. All I want to do is share that one reminder list but am unable as well.

    Just to say again, I've already gone through all things that might be turned off and we both don't have any other apple IDs. I'm syncing my reminders and turned on family purchase sharing as well.

    I'm able to share songs with her and there is no problem selecting her name off contacts then.

    Anyone has seen this issue before?

    Group messages coming indivually

    I'm in a couple group chats like I'm sure most people are. Both of them have one android user and the last like 3-4 days a lot of the messages have been coming through as individual that are clearly from the group chat. I'm in a 13 pro max running iOS 15.1. I have group messages and MMS toggled on. Is anyone having this issue?

    Is it possible to get just URLs instead of hyperlinks when using “copy all links” in browser tabs? (iPhone)

    Whenever I copy all links, I can only seem to paste it in Notes - but then they're hyperlinked and clickable instead of just the url.

    I want to be able to be able to move multiple URLs to be openable at my computer without going one by one.

    I've tried sending the notes/notes.txt through messages, emails, "printing" to convert to pdf and downloading the note from iCloud on my computer. iCloud ends up just giving me the titles of the links without actually keeping the links.

    Any ideas?

    I've been using iPhone 11 for over a year now (this is my first iPhone, I used several Android devices before). I found some frustrating things about iPhone, so much that I'm thinking about moving back to Android.

    1. Youtube Music app gets killed in the background very easily. I go on motorcycle rides often and I connect my phone through Bluetooth intercom in my helmet to listen to songs and for map directions. When I try to play the song again after pausing it for a while using the Bluetooth device, the song is not playing. I see that the Youtube Music app gets killed in the background when it is not playing for a few minutes (a few minutes here means less than 3-4 minutes) and this gets worse if I enable battery saver mode.

      Two days back I tried the Apple Music app by installing it and it works flawlessly and it seems this app doesn't get killed at all in the background (or the background kill priority seems very low for this app). My question is, are all music apps other than Apple Music behaving like this? Isn't that anti-competitive?

    2. Google Photos - I use Google Photos to upload all my pics and videos instead of iCloud. In Android, all the photos and videos taken on my phone are uploaded to Google automatically even if I don't open the Google Photos app at all. In iOS, I have to open the Google Photos app and stay in that app until the upload completes. This is the part that frustrates me the most as I couldn't use my phone at all while photos and videos ar uploading (which might take hours if there are lot of videos). I notice that this is applicable to all apps in iOS (I don't think iCloud works this way) where if I send media in WhatsApp or post something in Instagram, I have to be in that app until the upload completes. Otherwise, the app gets killed after few minutes in the background.

    All these make me feel iPhone is not a smartphone and I can't do multitask at all with this as I need to be in one app until any operation in that app is completed. It feels very primitive.

    Is there any way to not use the Apple ecosystem (iCloud, Apple Music), but still don't have to waste my precious time while uploading media or doing anything on iPhone?

    Spotlight search not working on ios 15.1

    Hi

    Yesterday I switched from my old iphone 7 to a new 13 pro max. I moved my stuff through itunes backup, apps redownloaded and all. I also updated the phone from stock ios 15 to 15.1.

    I quickly noticed that I can't search anything through spotlight search which is making my phone useless, because I've been using this as my main way to access apps for years on previous iphones.

    I tried all the fixes that appear on google like restarting phone, changing language, disabling and enabling checkboxes in siri&search options tabs. Restarting phone actually fixes it for like few seconds, after like 3 searches it stops working again.

    I'm out of ideas how to fix it. I read about indexing, but how long it could take? My phone was up for several hours now. And if so, then why it's temporarly working after restart?

    Alternative to pressing backspace to delete letters/words?

    My iPhone 8 has trouble with double taps in keyboard (doesn't always register them).

    It's very annoying when I make a typo and I need to press backspade multiple times.

    Is there any other way to delete text o iOs that doesn't require tapping?
