Posted: 12 Nov 2021 08:59 PM PST So I was just using my MacBook and this is the second time I've noticed something like this happening but as I was using it I started hearing a kind of snorting/wheezing noise coming from the computers speakers. The first time it freaked me out but I tried not to think much of it like as though it were only a YouTube video or something that was left open. So I just came back to it tonight and heard the noise again then just kinda froze for a minute then the voice asked what I was doing. What do I do? [link] [comments] |

Time Machine not doing backups anymore Posted: 13 Nov 2021 04:36 AM PST I've been unable to make Time Machine backups for two weeks and I don't understand why. All my previous backups are on an External HD and Time Machine shows the progress of the backup, but no new backup folder is created after the last one (November 1st). I even tried on an empty HD and it's the same thing. My MBA's 512GB and HD's 2TB, so there's plenty of space. Any help would be appreciated! [link] [comments] |
Brand new phone (2 months old), storage is now full and literally half of it is "Other" Posted: 13 Nov 2021 04:23 AM PST I can't believe in 2021 this is still happening. I had an iPhone X for several years, you'd think that would be enough time to fix this bug. I'm actually good with computers and phones; can't imagine how frustrating this must be for people who aren't! I know reset and restore works but I have critical apps I need to use for the next few hours. [link] [comments] |

AppleCare repairs that become upgrades Posted: 12 Nov 2021 10:48 PM PST Hi! I have a 2019 MacBook Pro 16" loaded to the gills (except a 4TB instead of an 8TB drive) and it's got some problems. First is a dead/hot pixel in the display, but also there's an intermittent GPU error that obviously needs replacement (crazy colored patterns obscuring the screen, it's not a monitor or dongle failing because I can screenshot the artifacts) and just today the touchbar died. Perhaps the entire premise for the rest of this post is flawed, but I've heard that Apple's been doing very little actual repairs these days and just doing full replacements instead of paying people to bust out a soldering pen—so, I think I might be looking at a tit-for-tat replacement of my hardware through AppleCare. However, they no longer sell this model since the release of the newest M1 MacBook Pros, I'm not even seeing any of my model in the refurb store right now. Has anyone here gotten an upgrade to a newly-released product because the old models weren't in stock? If so was there any strategy to take on the phone, like questions I could ask that would make an upgrade more likely? Should I wait until right before my AppleCare coverage is over (another year) to report the issue to make sure they'll have less stock of 2019 models/parts and make an upgrade more likely? Also for anyone who did get a next-generation replacement: Where you able to put in cash to upgrade beyond a replacement? I've always regretted not going with the 8TB model on my current machine. If I were to get a shiny new M1 mac that also had 64GB of RAM for example, I'd gladly shell out an extra $1,200 as indicated in the Apple Store to go from 4TB to 8TB. [link] [comments] |

Anybody else having heating and battery drain issues while using Messenger? Posted: 13 Nov 2021 02:15 AM PST I have an iPhone 11 pro max and use messenger for talking to my friends and family. However after using for a relatively short period of time, my phone starts heating up right below the camera and the battery starts depleting really fast. Anybody else have this issue? Is there any fix? [link] [comments] |

Delete something imported from laptop Posted: 13 Nov 2021 02:03 AM PST I'm really hoping someone could help me as I'm pretty clueless with technology. Last year I synced my iPhone with my laptop and imported some photos and videos from my laptop onto my iPhone. The option to delete them from my iPhone doesn't seem to work. Unfortunately my laptop isn't working so syncing my phone back to iTunes and removing them that way isn't an option. Is there any other way to remove these as they're taking up a lot of storage and I have them backed up elsewhere so don't need them on my phone any more. Hope this makes sense! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 13 Nov 2021 01:11 AM PST I'm not worried about this, but it's very strange. I've literally never opened safari - I just started using this completely new Macbook Pro 2021. When I start typing "gmail" into the address bar, it suggests a visited result (which is weird enough), but it's a pdf called "Esat_BV_FPC_2016.pdf". I've come across only 2-3 results in google of people who've had the same issue. Here's one example. Any thoughts what it is? [link] [comments] |

Posted: 12 Nov 2021 11:46 PM PST I sent my AirPods Pro to a repair center about 1-2 days ago and the green status bar hasn't moved on the repair tracking. How long does a service/repair/replacement take? [link] [comments] |

Samsung 870 EVO SATA SSD and macOS compatibility Posted: 12 Nov 2021 11:00 PM PST Been having trouble trying to initialize two brand new 870 EVO SSDs. These are 4TB drives that are to be installed into OWC Mercury Express Pro mini enclosures to serve as external USB-C drives. Trying to format on a 2019 16" MacBook Pro running Monterey (mac0S 12.01). I currently have nothing on the computer except a clean install of the OS using all default settings. When I attempt to format in Disk Utility the process just says that it is creating a partition, but it won't advance beyond that point. Eventually I have to force quit to close Disk Utility. I also have a 860 EVO 1TB SSD that I was able to format with no problem. So at this point in my troubleshooting I have isolated this as either a problem with a 4 TB capacity (unlikely, as I have mechanical drives of that capacity that work fine) or a problem with the 870 EVO line of SSDs. Due to their relatively high price, there are not many reports about problems with this particular drive online. I have found a few similar reports about the 870 EVO 2 TB model. When I called Samsung, they of course told me the "drive should work fine with your Mac"! Has anyone else been able to successfully format an 870 EVO of any capacity on your Mac? [link] [comments] |
Can you enable Apple ID Mac password reset after setup? Posted: 12 Nov 2021 10:44 PM PST Is it possible to enable resetting your Mac password with the Apple ID after you set it up? I did not check it during the setup, but now I would like to enable the option. I have checked the users and groups menu and the iCloud account menu, but did not see a way macOS Monterey 12.0.1 Couldn't see the option on either of my Macs, an iMac or a MacBook Pro. Both are older intel based Macs. [link] [comments] |
