Devices Left Behind Really Works Posted: 13 Nov 2021 03:45 PM PST I was at a conference in a rental suburban and I parked in a parking garage near the venue. Long story short, I go back around 5pm to drop off my bags before the networking event. I unlock the car as i exit the elevator and walk right up to it and drop everything else off. I hit the lock button on the car once I get back to the elevators. Fast forward to the end of the night. I hear for the suburban, get in and head a mile down the road to my hotel. As I pull up, I receive a notification on my watch that my iPad Pro was left behind. What?! How. It's right here…..wait a second. There was an identically colored Tahoe about 3 spaces over and also backed in. It was left unlocked during the day and I mistakenly sat my stuff down in it thinking it was my rental. Had I not received that message, I might have been in a position where my iPad Pro disappeared on me. Thank god for updated Find My Features [link] [comments]

Posted: 13 Nov 2021 11:25 PM PST A visual demonstration of the problem: https://imgur.com/gallery/n8RscVy Someone on another subreddit was recently complaining about the Belkin USB-C to HDMI adapter, a particular model that is sold exclusively via the Apple Store. I happened to have three USB-C to HDMI adapters. The first two came from work; the other one I bought for myself:
When I used the Belkin adapter in the past, I noticed that some parts of the screen just looked a bit off. It was like I was looking at the picture through a poor camera lens: there were strange chromatic aberrations, especially around high-contrast edges and text. When I plugged in the Uni adapter, the colors looked fine and everything was tack sharp. I thought -- what the heck, let's see if I can't objectively and empirically illustrate why it's so bad. So, I switched back to the Belkin adapter and tried to take some close-up pictures with my phone, but they didn't help. Then I remembered the LCD Test pages at http://lagom.nl/lcd-test, and the problem became clear right away. TL;DR: do not buy the Belkin adapter from the Apple Store. It is utter trash and will make you question what you're seeing on screen. Use the Apple Digital AV adapter, or get the Uni brand. If you do buy something else, test it with the LCD Test pages above and return it as 'defective' if the pictures on your screen do not resemble the reference images on a known good monitor. New option "Show sidebar independently on start page and webpage" in Safari Technology Preview Posted: 13 Nov 2021 10:20 PM PST There's a new option in Safari Technology Preview (screenshot), it remember the position (visible/hidden) in Safari start page but doesn't works on other webpages (for me at least), it's a shame because it would be very useful. A Beautiful AirTag Story / Stolen Keys Posted: 13 Nov 2021 05:18 AM PST Hi, I just wanted to share you a story, i still can't believe it. I was out, with my friends, and I left my jacket with my home keys and car key in the pockets, I left the jacket somewhere on some table with all other ones, and after few hours, everyone getting ready to go home and getting their jackets, I'm trying to find mine, however unfortunately I can't find my jacket, and I started to panic a bit because I live alone at the moment and if I don't find the jacket, I won't be able to go home. Nevertheless after few minutes of searching, I checked Find My and I can see that the keys are 1/2 km away from me, realising that either someone took my jacket maybe by accident or stole it, I set keys / AirTag to lost mode to get instant update on locations, I drove there with my friend, and the location radius isn't that small, I started going in one by one building, while trying to connect to the AirTag and get real time location where it is, the location was still old, almost 40 minutes old, but that gave me an impression that maybe the person isn't moving, hence not going through any Apple device, but after 40 minutes I get push notification new location spotted, and it was still nearby with the initial location, I quickly ran over there and get inside the building and started again to connect to the AirTag, and BOOM, I get the CONNECTED prompt but no precise location, it says More Light or Move a bit to gain precise location with the arrows, I turned on the flashlights, I moved floors one by one, and guess what, I GET ARROWS WITH PRECISE LOCATION, and it was late, 5am, everyone sleeping, huge building, i know where are my keys at some random apartment, I'm ringing on the bell, no one is answering, I'm trying again, again, again, and, I also yelled, someone opened the door, I told him the story, he believed me, said sorry, and gave my jacket back. In the meantime i called the police and I asked if someone reported something stolen, no luck, the police even said to me no luck with this kind of reports, either you find the keys yourself or we can't help you. SUMMARY: Trust me, PLEASE, buy an AirTag, for your very important things. I'm one person proof, and many more, that these small Air-fucking-Tags are extremely useful. Thank you Apple, and who ever made this technology possible. [link] [comments]

Did Apple miss the boat of ipv6 ? Posted: 13 Nov 2021 03:06 AM PST Hi everybody, I'm currently playing with ipv6 at home. With my firewall, I blocked ipv4 from my Mac to let only ipv6 pass. How is it that Apple is not yet completely ipv6 ready ? Why do they not lead by example ? What do you think ? KR, P'Bear [link] [comments] |
